Figurines 1.2.0

Gary1986

Question

"Figurine Items are now charged items with an additional limit of 1/Rest use"

Could I get an explanation on why figurines now have charges? Is it because people complained about it in a single player game and they couldn't hold themselves back from using them, so now we have to treat them and everybody else like babies by adding limited charges to them?

I just don't get nerfs like this in a single player game.

im glad they nerfed them .

You should base your entire combat around spamming figs

and yeah this will make solo far harder

But it's a single player game? You were never forced to use them to begin with?

If you found the game easy with them, don't use them or spam them. Have some self control or set a personal limit.

Why are you targeting figurines specifically? You could apply your logic to any nerf at all.

This is ridiculous. Why would the developers care if it makes soloing harder? Do they get a bonus the fewer people who complete the game solo? Really, if the soloer wants it harder then they just don't use figurines. This isn't rocket surgery.

I rarely use chanters and I hardly ever use any summoning spells, so it has been nice to have the figurines as an available option, one that I can take away or add without wasting a class resource.

How many charges are we talking here? I don't use figurines often, but probably enough to expend charges? Or can we, as I've done with other charged items, sell it and buy it back recharged?

I am hesitant to update to 1.2 now. Or I guess I jump into the console and get more that way, which really sounds like a worse situation to me than a solo player spamming figurines.

I (sometimes) understand nerfing, even when I disagree with a particular nerf. But this is removing player style options, not nerfing.

Criminy. I'm never getting invested so soon in a game again. I'll wait until these games are on sale a few years down the road. This roller coaster ride of constant developer tweaking is annoying as hell.

I see the logic in this move because even with the most basic figurines you can trivialize any encounter; an army of weak figurines lets you win any fight on POTD even early on. However, I did enjoy having this ability.

Deadfire isn't a multiplayer game, so every weapon and ability should deal 1,000,000 damage per hit with infinite number of uses per encounter. Why can't I use the same figurine to summon the same creature 20 times in a single encounter? Or 30? Or 50? After all, singleplayer games don't need to be balanced at all, and we can all exercise a certain degree of "self-control" to pretend we're experiencing challenging and interesting combat encounters.

My parents spoiled me when I was a little kid, and I don't know any better than to demand Obsidian to constantly reinforce my narcissistic tendencies and obsession with illusory power without the game or anyone else calling me a cheater!

WTH? Why the hyperbole? What purpose could that possibly serve?

eta: and what figurines could I summon more than once per rest? I totally missed those.

Just copy and paste the figurines from the items gamesdatabundle file into a new gamesdatabundle file (before you installed the beta) and put it in the override folder. I've done just that and have the beta installed now and I don't have charges on my figurines.

A shame this is even necessary. My current favorite PC is a devoted/barbarian. The figurine is the closest I could come to an animal companion without being a ranger. Don't get me wrong. I love rangers, one of my three favorite classes actually. I just wanted a melee specialist with an animal companion this time. I didn't even want companion advantages. So the jade tiger figurine has been a great option for me.

Thanks,

Joe

I would have preferred that figurines be per-rest and that the summons scale with summoner's power level instead of popping into existence at high level automatically.

Charges seems like an over-nerf unless there is a way to replenish charges. I hate charged items in games like this because using even a single charge feels like "breaking" the item.

I asked for figurines nerf (wasnt the only one). Not because I cannot hold myself, but because they were obviously out of line. Quick slot tools (scrolls, drugs, poisons, potions and bombs) are consumables. Figurines have way stronger effects, need no crafting/skill investiment, and could be used every single fight.

Balance in single player games is not treating people like babies. On the other hand, the emotional outburst many players exhibit after a couple nerfs is concerning behavior.

For my point of view obsidian need to balance the game and then modders can bring some fun with things like per-rest figures without breaking game challenge

The figurines were "out of line" for whom? It's obvious people just couldn't set personal limits for themselves so they moaned for something to be changed which didn't need to be changed.

Which figurines could be used every single fight without rest in between? There are three that I use somewhat regularly—jade tiger, horn of animat, and wooden spiders (I don't know what any of the official names for those are). I've never been able to use them more than once per rest. That's how it was in PoE1, as well. How is that not balanced?

Nah this is on you, not the developers. This is not "balancing". This is removing options.

DEV1: I think we should buff Ranger's pets, they are mostly bad at the moment, especially on higher difficulties.

DEV2: So you're saying we should give charges to figurines?

DEV1: Yes, we must remove Heart of Fury from default Barbarian Aggresive Behavior set.

DEV2: Great. I'm off to give some Penetration to Thorny Roots.
