Greetings, captains,

Thanks to the ardent support and helpful feedback from the community, the team here at Obsidian is pleased to present Patch 1.1, which is one of the many major patches we have in store for Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire! As always, here's Pillars II Design Director, Josh Sawyer, to give you the rundown on what awaits you in the Deadfire Archipelago:

As Josh mentioned, the 1.1 patch brings along a host of new features to Deadfire that we're excited for you to check out! You can check out the full patch notes here, or take a look at the highlights below.

New Features

  • Intro Skip Added
    • There is now a Start & Skip Intro button that brings the player directly to the second level of the game.
    • This feature becomes available after you have played through the intro once, or loaded a save (after getting the update).
  • Veteran & PotD Balance Improvements
    • Armor and Penetration now scale up on PotD.
    • Many encounters have had units swapped out for tougher versions.
    • Some encounters have had units added or set to ambush the party during the encounter.
  • AI Support and Updates
    • All Conditionals have now been categorized in the Custom AI menu.
    • The AI Toggle button on the ability bar now supports cycling through: Attacking while using Abilities, Attacking while not using Abilities, and Not using AI.
    • The following actions can now be conditionalized in Custom AI: Using Consumable quick slot items, Activating Modals, Switching Weapon Sets, and Basic Weapon Attacking.
  • Ship Resupply
    • A  new "Refill Ship Supplies" button can now be used to conveniently purchase ship supplies from any storefront that sells Medical Supplies, Cannon Shot, and Repair Supplies.
  • World Map Legend Added
    • A new Map Legend has been added that allows all icons on the World Map to be filtered by category.
  • Character Appearance Improvements
    • Character Appearance can now be changed in-game via the Appearance button on the Inventory screen (Player and adventurers only).
    • Character Hairstyles are now rendered naturally with some Hats.
    • Eye Color customization has been added.
  • Graphics Options Expanded
    • New Toggles have been added to the Graphics menu to enable/disable certain visual features.
  • News Feed Updated
    • The News Feed on the Main Menu has been revamped to include links to the latest articles, DLC, and social media.

Today also sees the release of the next free DLC! The Beard and Hair Pack is available now on Steam, GOG.com, and Origin, and on the Mac App Store pending approval from Apple.

We're not stopping there, though - keep an eye out for another free DLC full of more ship crew members and ship upgrades in store for you in a couple weeks, and even more content and polish to follow. We love hearing from you, and these fixes could not have come without love from our community. If you have any issues, contact us at our support portal to help you on your journey.

Physical Backers

For those who backed Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire at a physical tier, we have good news! The fulfillment houses are getting everything in and packaging it all up now. We have a batch of them (as you can see in the video above) and we're very happy with how they turned out. Within the next few weeks orders will be going out. When your items are shipped to you, you'll receive an e-mail from the fulfillment house with a tracking number letting you know it's on the way. We apologize again for the delay in these items and we hope that you enjoy them once they arrive.

Reach out to us on our various social media channels (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, here on our forums) and let us know your comments, your critiques, and what you love about the game.

Did you miss our last update? Check it out!

Josh is a very likeable person.

Even when I disagree with his design choices (and I've been vocal about my disagreement with some of the nerfs in patch 1.1), I always get the vibe that he's making an honest effort to improve the game and make it the best it can be.

After all the venom I've been spewing, I figured it was time to let out some positivity as well :) (which doesn't mean I'm not bitter at some of the nerfs :p)

Big thanks to the team for the patch, increasing difficulty will do a lot of good, as far as my enjoyment of the game goes.

Also,

Character Hairstyles are now rendered naturally with some Hats.

Completely useless but totally indispensable. Brian and Dimitri, you guys are the best!

Were the difficulty increases targeted at only verteren and PotD? Because I've been playning on normal and have felt challenged.

Yep. Your normal game will stay the same.

There have beem some balance changes to class abilities that will affect everyone, however. You should be fine, though.

Hello, I'm having trouble changing my character´s appearance in-game. Each time I click on the appearance button, the appearance window is oversized and I can't see either the "Accept" or "Cancel" options, so I can't change my character´s appearance. Is there any way I can correct that?

Same here...

Personally I wouldn’t welcome that. Companions are meant to have a specific appearance; it is who they are.

I would certainly welcome a portrait pack DLC—or even multiple portrait pack DLCs ;) or a DLC with unique models for those unique items that don’t have one, and perhaps an icon to match. Or even an item or spell pack DLC (especially for new unique spells only available through grimoires, for they feel special.)

Have a nice day.

Wish for next patch:

Some extra class options for companions. Like Xoti: Priest/Chanter

Cosmetic tab for dressing up but no mechanical consequences. (just dress skin).

Buffing abillities nobody uses (you know what they are).

Bold idea:

For martial classes, make active abillities more front loaded, but upgrades back loaded. I would love to play Rogue without cripping strike, but it cant, since there is nothing else to pick early on. So more options with abillities at low levels, but to upgrade it to full gore glory, need to wait.

Make Fessina Generic Wizard untill Wizard subclass suck less.

No Max Focus AI behaviour. Get your priorities right.

We're definitely still working on a solution for this and really do hope to have something soon!

Hello, sorry to insist on this but I'm still having problems with the over-sized appearance window. I cannot see either the "Cancel" or "Acept" options, so it is impossible for me to change my character's appearance. I believe someone else in this thread also complained about this.

Please post bugs in the technical support forum, there's no guarantee posting it here will get it reported.

I cannot - yet I must. How do you calculate that? At what point on the graph do "must" and "cannot" meet? Yet I must - but I cannot! ~ Ro-Man

You should think about some buffs, or something cool.

It is not very inspiring to play if just bunch of stuff nerfed, some deserved, some not.

I want to read "We did Priest Great Again, check out the new spells" or something.
