  1. /!\ This thread is now obsolete, here you go for up-to-date instructions: Install PoE & extensions on Debian/Ubuntu/Mint/etc. ----- Hello fellow Debianists, Ubunteros and Mint addicts! Here you’ll find scripts that will build .deb packages from your GOG installers of PoE. These packages can then be installed via the standard way (dpkg -i package.deb) and will give you the possibility to have your game as well integrated to your system than if it came from official repositories. Here you go for the download links and usage instructions: https://debian-facile.org/utilisateurs:vv222:games:pillars-of-eternity And there you go for instructions in French: https://debian-facile.org/utilisateurs:vv222:jeux:pillars-of-eternity Every feedback is welcome here, be it positive or negative I hope you’ll enjoy the comfort provided by these scripts as much as I enjoy writing and tweaking them. Let’s game!
  2. I'm trying to patch from 1.0.6 up to 2.0 and when I just run the script (pillars_of_eternity_patch_2.5.6.9.sh) it asks for a directory. So that's fine, but whatever directory I give it I get an error: ERROR: Folder doesn't contain any game The game is in "/home/me/Pillars of Eternity" and I've tried that and "/home/me/Pillars of Eternity/game" and just "/home/me". Same thing every time. So I tried just extracting the patch myself, but it isn't obvious to me what to do with it. There's a script there called patch_it.sh, which doesn't seem to do anything when I run it. At any rate, any help would be appreciated.
  3. Getting disk write failure on update to newest version (2.01?) in Steam. Appears to be related to a typical Windows developer bug: assuming that filenames are case insensitive. me@banshee:/opt/SteamLibrary$ grep failed ~/.local/share/Steam/logs/content_log.txt [2015-09-12 15:32:01] AppID 291650 update canceled : File commit failed: unexpected install file locked "/opt/SteamLibrary/steamapps/common/Pillars of Eternity/PillarsOfEternity_Data/Managed/Assembly-CSharp.dll" (Disk write failure) Actual location of files is under /opt/SteamLibrary/SteamApps, as seen here: me@banshee:/opt/SteamLibrary$ ls -l total 3 drwxrwxr-x 6 jimbo jimbo 75 Sep 12 15:35 SteamApps me@banshee:/opt/SteamLibrary$ ls '/opt/SteamLibrary/steamapps/common/Pillars of Eternity/PillarsOfEternity_Data/Managed/Assembly-CSharp.dll' ls: cannot access `/opt/SteamLibrary/steamapps/common/Pillars of Eternity/PillarsOfEternity_Data/Managed/Assembly-CSharp.dll': No such file or directory Having found the problem, I monkeypatched it temporarily by just symlinking /opt/SteamLibrary/steamapps to /opt/SteamLibrary/SteamApps: me@banshee:/opt/SteamLibrary$ ln -s SteamApps steamapps me@banshee:/opt/SteamLibrary$ ls -l total 3 lrwxrwxrwx 1 jimbo jimbo 9 Sep 12 15:36 steamapps -> SteamApps drwxrwxr-x 6 jimbo jimbo 74 Sep 12 15:35 SteamApps me@banshee:/opt/SteamLibrary$ ls '/opt/SteamLibrary/steamapps/common/Pillars of Eternity/PillarsOfEternity_Data/Managed/Assembly-CSharp.dll' /opt/SteamLibrary/steamapps/common/Pillars of Eternity/PillarsOfEternity_Data/Managed/Assembly-CSharp.dll This worked, but it's horrid. Please update your paths to reflect the fact that Windows is pretty much the only system that routinely uses case-insensitive file and path names. A directory named SteamApps should always be referred to as SteamApps, not as steamapps. =) Thank you!
  4. Folks, I just read some interesting twitter remarks via pcgamer.com made by Brandon Adler. In particular the remark "I don't think it was worthwhile developing for Linux,". I (and probably many others) feel it was not only a slap in the face for those like myself who purchased Pillars of Eternity to play ON LINUX. So you can argue the 1.5% but if I didn't happen I would not have supported the project since so many are offering the Linux. Not only is that kind of remark offensive to some, and potentially destructive to those were are considering making games compatible with Linux, it is short sighted. Linux gained recognition (including with grade school students who are getting sick of stability issues, vulnerabilites, bad interface changes), for more stability, lower cost and security. With the Windows 10 reports of spyware integrated into it's core to send virtually all user data to Microsoft servers (and US government agencies) the privacy concerns will escalate rapidly. Many gamers don't like the idea of sharing their personal data with government agencies. Apple computers often have inferior gaming hardware compared to custom build PC's in addition to being very expensive for what you get (Linux in fact can do more than MacOS in the right hands) and so that would make Linux (Debian based particularly) the only viable alternative for gamers wanting to use top hardware. who want to preserve their basic privacy, and there will likely be a backlash in Europe and Asia as well as the meaning of this news starts to hit home. As someone who was once a fan (not as much as used to be thanks to Mr. Adler), I would suggest that your staff be more careful with their remarks and remember that being ahead of the curve is a vital part of business, Microsoft has repeatedly failed to learn in the Web browser market ("Edge" is trying to be Firefox), the mobile phone industry (they are basically out of that market) and their latest PR/interface flops with Windows 8 and I expect Windows 10 as well. (People actually paid me to get Windows 8 to act like Windows 7/XP..come on...) Linux has been consider by more and more gaming groups to be a legitimate investment and it's showing. I won't mention the numerous and growing competitors doing Linux gaming development, but Steam would be one big one. Hopefully this message gets through to someone upstairs. I'm not for censorship, but I do think responsible conduct with remark in the public is every employee's reponsibility for the good the company as well as their own individual reputation. Jonah A. 5. Hello fellow Debianists, Ubunteros and Mint fanatics! I’m here to present you a way to convert the .tar.gz archive sold by GOG.com into .deb packages that can be natively installed on your distribution throught tools like DPKG, and removed through APT (synaptic, apt-get, aptitude, etc.). The building process is done through a shell script that should work "out-of-the-box" on any Debian-based distribution. So, here are the scripts: version 1.06, GOG release 1.4.0.6, French version: http://www.dotslashplay.it/scripts/fr/play-pillars-of-eternity_gog-1.4.0.6.sh version 1.06, GOG release 1.4.0.6, English version: http://www.dotslashplay.it/scripts/en/play-pillars-of-eternity_gog-1.4.0.6.sh (updated on 2015-06-04) old versions of the scripts are kept online in case you need them (if you want to convert an old archive): French versions: http://www.dotslashplay.it/scripts/fr/ English versions: http://www.dotslashplay.it/scripts/en/ Choose the one corresponding to your version of the game, the language is just the language used by the script, and has no effect on your game language. Now, how to use it? 1. Download the script, and place it in the same directory than the game archive (gog_pillars_of_eternity_1.4.0.6.tar.gz). If you own some GOG DLC (gog_pillars_of_eternity_dlc1_1.0.0.1.tar.gz, gog_pillars_of_eternity_dlc2_1.0.0.1.tar.gz and/or gog_pillars_of_eternity_dlc3_1.0.0.1.tar.gz), put them in the same directory; 2. Run the script via sh: sh ./play-pillars-of-eternity_gog-1.4.0.6.sh3. Everything beside this point is automated. Just wait a dozen minutes, and the script will end by giving you the command to run as root to install the freshly built .deb packages. 4. Enjoy the rebirth of old-school RPG on your favourite GNU/Linux distribution! ----- Feedback of all kind is welcome here, positive as well as negative, feature requests will be listened to and worked on as much as possible. ----- Advanced usage
  6. Hello fellow Linux GOGlodytes! As you already know, GOG doesn’t provide patches for their Linux games, so you’re stuck downloading the whole game archive again each time it is updated. It might be problematic if you are behind a slow connection or a capped bandwidth. But an alternative exists: I build custom patches allowing you to patch the GOG-provided Linux version of Pillars of Eternity, bypassing the need for the re-download of the whole game. If you’re interested, you can find them on the GOG forums: https://www.gog.com/forum/pillars_of_eternity/linux_unofficial_patches Please report any bug you might encounter here, and I’ll eradicate it.
  7. I'm attempting to run the linux version, and all I get is the lower-left corner of the display output on my monitor (meaning I get a full-screen display, but the full screen is only showing the lower left portion of the game). The mouse does not map to the display, so I cannot select any options (I have to kill the game with my window manager rather than with the game menu options). Portions that show only a quadrant include opening videos and initial game menu (cannot get past the menu). I'm pretty sure this is multi-monitor related, because if I display on only one of my monitors, it appears to work correctly... but when I have my desktop across all four monitors, I only get 1/4 of the game. Steps to reproduce: Connect four (probably reproducible with less) monitors to your machine Set your desktop environment to use all monitors Start the game Game will show only a portion of the video output Current workaround: Reduce desktop to a single screen, then start the game. Seriously annoying, but it works. OS: Gentoo Linux with kernel 3.19.6 on a 64-bit architecture using 32-bit libraries for steam and games Desktop Environment: KDE 4.14.3 GPU: GeForce GTX 780 using nvidia-drivers-349.16 RAM: 16 GB VRAM: 3 GB Audio: Using ctxfi module
  8. I notice an annoying bug where the screen will be panning (I think usually down and to the left) so my characters won't be on the screen when the page loads. I have to click somewhere to stop the panning, go to the map, and recenter on my players. This happens every time I change scenes. I'm running Ubuntu 14.04 and the latest patched version through steam. Short youtube video of the occurence. https://youtu.be/vm-kwDrNcxg
  9. Oh, so this is where I was supposed to post now. B-) I'm not even sure how to get relevant debug info out of Pillars. Using the Steam version, on Arch 64 bit. Whole computer goes down. I've had this happen before with Wasteland 2 and XCOM, intermittently. Wasteland 2 apparently figured out what the problem was because it stopped doing it after a while. Pillars consistently crashes a bit after the screen starts moving at the beginning, after character creation. Also game looked … interesting in 2560x1440: Running it in a lower resolution (i.e. 720p or 1080p) makes it look like it's supposed to. It still crashes after character creation though. (I've got a six-core athlon can't-remember-exactly, ati radeon hd mumble (radeonsi iirc), six gigs of ram. The specs are OK.)
  10. Hi, I am having some trouble running the game on my Linux machine (Mint 17). I used the tarball from GOG. When I execute the game, it runs fine with the exception that I am unable to save any progress. In the main menu, the "Continue" and "Load Game" buttons are disable and show the message "Loading Save Game", and once in game when I try to save any progress nothing happens (the save picture is blank). If I run the game on root (which I shouldn't), I can save games normally (they are stored in /.local/share/PillarsOfEternity), but for some reason I get no sound at all. I figure this has something to do with permission. Ive tried chmod but nothing changes. Maybe someone here can give me hint. Thanks in advance.
  11. Disclaimer: I'm not actually running Ubuntu, which I realize may make me something of a persona non grata when it comes to bug reports, but now that's out in the open and not going to surprise anyone down the road, yes? Prior to the 1.03 patch, I could open the game in a window and resize it to whatever geometry I liked. My monitor's native resolution wasn't supported as a predefined default, but I could maximize the window or set pretty much any height/width combination an receive a non-squished/stretched game window. Starting with the 1.0.3 patch, manually resizing the window causes it to 'snap' between predefined window geometries, which can be resized until you're 'close' to the next predefined window size (which produces another snap to that size). If I size the window too large (anywhere close to the 2560x1440 option) it 'snaps' to fullscreen mode, which then displays fullscreen as checked in graphics options. Unchecking fullscreen just produces a different upscaled resolution on the first uncheck. The second time fullscreen is unchecked and graphics options exited the game will actually return to windowed mode. It also looks like this update broke some existing workarounds for dealing with higher resolutions: http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/71971-linux-ultrawide-screen/?hl=fullscreen&do=findComment&comment=1617338 , so since there are other resolution-related things afoot, I thought I'd chime in with the poor behavior (or change in, depending on your viewpoint) I'm seeing. With some further fiddling while watching Player.log, it also looks like if I let it 'snap' to a known resolution, then resize the window enough that it changes but doesn't snap to a specific size it will loop 'forever' (read: until I get bored watching the same text scroll past) through what looks like some geometry get/set methods. I tried to attach my player.log, but the uploader is blocking any uploads for me with a message that I'm "not allowed to upload this filetype", perhaps because I'm still post-limited due to my new-to-forum-ness. I've placed a copy of the relevant Player.log here instead since the uploader won't play nice - https://luna.moonhound.net/1.0.3.0526_resize_issue_player.log General sysinfo - I can provide more if desired, but these seems to be the most relevant bits and this happens regardless of system load / free ram levels: "Operating System" - Funtoo Linux Baselayout 2.2.0 Kernel - custom 3.19.0 using Gentoo's sources (effectively vanilla linux kernel tree sources with some default configuration in place) CPU: Intel i7-5820K Video Card - eVga.com. 12. Hello, PoE was working fine until yesterday on my linux installation, but today it refuses to work. When I click "Play", simply nothing happens. I also tried to launch the game manually from the command line, to no avail. The console displays messages like this when I launch the game: Game update: AppID 291650 "Pillars of Eternity", ProcID 11656, IP 0.0.0.0:0 ERROR: ld.so: object '/home/yardbird/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_32/gameoverlayrenderer.so' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded (wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS32): ignored. I am not sure if steam updated itself today before I tried launching the game, nor I am sure whether PoE received an update today. Some things I have tried: - sign into the beta program, same effect, - disabling the steam runtime, again no difference, - enabling/disabling the steam overlay, no effect, - verify integrity of local cache, no effect. Does anyone have a hint of what is going on? Anything I should try short of just reinstalling the game from scratch? Cheers!
  13. 1: Congrats on launch! 2: Thanks for linux on day 1! Now, the issue. I'm running a pretty standard linux setup (Ubuntu 14.04, updated proprietary NVidia drivers on a 570 card, etc.). I have 2 dell monitors running @1920x1080. When I start up the game, it seems to mis-detect them as one massive display, and ends up only drawing the bottom-eft 2/3 of the game on the main monitor (and nothing on the second monitor). The mouse cursor is also mis-aligned from what is detected for hovering - making it impossible to do much of anything. If I disable multi-monitor, then it seems to start up fine.
  14. Hello! Just wanted to mention two bugs I came across: 1) The prices in Black Hammer Smithery are suddenly (?) massively inflated. Every item they sell is ~100x more expensive than in other locations and I could get 10x more from items I sell to them. I think it started after I brought back the missing shipment. 2) Cloaks are not displayed. When my characters wear a cloak, it's invisible in the game. It seems to be the same bug as in the Mac version, only I'm playing on Linux (Mint 17.1 Cinnamon 64bit, NVidia GTX460 with NVidia drivers).

  16. I just visited Ondra's Gift for the first time and seem to have encountered a bug with the water level. That or the spring tide of the century. Initially the water level seemed just a little bit to high - all the lower streets (the level the Salty Mask is on) were submersed in water. Just enough to wet the feet of the NPC standing around there, so I thought it might be intentional (even if a bit strange). I visited the Mask, left it again and it was still the same. After I visited one of the Abandoned Houses on the topmost part of the map, however, the water level increased by a few meters and now the entire district is flooded. Obviously that makes navigation and questing there pretty difficult. Guess I can be lucky that my party is apparently able to breath underwater - or just very good at holding their breath (Guybrush Threepwood level good). Edit: Screenshot: Here's the savegame (max downloads is limited, so please leave it for the devs, sorry): https://www.hidrive.strato.com/lnk/cLoNAVxX System: Kernel: 3.13.0-43-generic x86_64 (64 bit, gcc: 4.8.2) Distro: Linux Mint 17.1 Rebecca Cinnamon CPU: Quad core AMD Phenom II X4 965 (-MCP-) cache: 2048 KB flags: (lm nx sse sse2 sse3 sse4a svm) Graphics: Card: NVIDIA GF104 [GeForce GTX 460] bus-ID: 01:00.0 X.Org: 1.15.1 drivers: nvidia (unloaded: fbdev, vesa, nouveau) Resolution: 1680x1050@59.9hz GLX Renderer: GeForce GTX 460/PCIe/SSE2 GLX Version: 4.4.0 NVIDIA 331.113 Direct Rendering: Yes
  17. Using the Steam 64-bit client. Cross-posted from the Steam forum. 18. Hi, I have Pillars Of Eternity, Linux edition, bought in gog.com Game is playable, but I encounter two rather serious problems with quests. 1) Readrics Hold. I did big part of this quest, but stop before confronting Readric in the Throne Room. (I thought - let's wait till I have better stats so I could use more dialog options). After finishing few quests in the Defiance Bay and in the Caed Nua, I got back to the keep. Played dialog and killed Readric. The quest is not finished and the Journal says that I had to confront Readric. 2) Cinders of faith. I acquired this quest in the First Fires. The quest is listed in the journal. I tried to ask Wenan at Admeths Dan about the cave, but he had no such dialog option.
  19. Hello, I've just bought the game (non-steam version). I have installed it on Ubuntu using a script https://www.gog.com/forum/pillars_of_eternity/linux_turn_your_targz_archive_into_a_deb_package and now I notice that the game does not seem to be able to find the folder in which it should save/read saved game files (It just sits trying to lod saved games). In linux this should be the folder .local/share/PillarsOfEternity/SavedGames, which I have, but the game is still not able to find it. Also I would like to know how to patch the game. Thank you.
  20. Hello. I've a problem with the game on linux. The antialiazing and luminosity is not working correctly for me. I compared to windows . On windows i don't have these problems. Here is the dropbox link with the logs , saves , specs and screenshots. I hope You'll be able to help with these issues on linux. Thank you very much
  21. I have ubuntu 14.10 with GNOME with amd 280x card (14.12 omega driver). This game has problem with my dual monitor setup. Ingame coursor keeps traveling on second monitor even then it doesn't allowed in game settings. Some ppl ( and myself ) have this problem in dota 2, but it can be fixed with windowed fullscreen mode.
  22. Hi, Thank you for making this game, and supporting GNU/Linux. I have the gog.com Hero edition (gog_pillars_of_eternity_1.0.0.1.tar.gz). Everything worked fine until the game really start. The game background is not rendered at all, characters are just highlight a little. The UI part fork fine except the local map. I just give a try on the windows version (Win10), and it worked fine. I use the same trick with "Wasteland 2" (gog version too). 23. The Problem: Polygon tearing in upper left corner of screen during initial loading screen and then when panning in game. Polygon appears black during loading screen (see attachment), then goes away about midload. Polygon reappears (but as transparent) when panning. Temporary Resolution: Disable Crossfire in Catalyst Control Center System: AMD Phenom II 945 8 gig RAM KDE Desktop Debian Jessie Crossfire 6870's Proprietary Drivers 14.9(?) from Debian Non-Free Repository Any additional information needed, just ask. Edit: I can not get the image to attach. Using Basic and Advanced uploader. Tried Firefox and Internet Explorer. Presuming moderator approval needed as this is a new account (even though the upload section doesn't make that clear).
  24. I just got the game on Steam, and am running it with Intel Broadwell graphics with the xf86-video-intel 2.99.917-4 driver (under Linux). The highest resolution available to me is 2560x1600, but my screen's native resolution is 2880x1620. Is this resolution supported at all? Am I somehow able to set it?
