  1. Just a Suggestion me and my friend love this game, I use the bow and arrows while he's up close with melee and shield. The issue is the arrow system. What if you can craft a quiver that takes an armor slot for throwables or something? Have it start out at 50 or 100 instead of 20, can be upgradeable to hold more. This would be a cool feature and very useful, as I'm always low on inventory space due to holding so many arrows. I also would like to see if there was an auto arrow retrieval system, where you walk over it and it picks them up. Having to pick every single one up by its self is annoying and tedious and sometimes i cant even pick them up because if something or someone walks over it some times they go flying, or get stuck under the map. What if after after shooting them the ones that are stuck in the enemy can be collected into a group to where you can pick up most of them with one click. Overall this game is awesome and I cant wait for what's to come next. Great job and thank you for giving me something new and fun to play that's NOT a Battle Royale!!!!

GLITCHES: If you drop grass planks in areas with water texture they fall through the world, ants can take stuff out of storage boxes that shouldn't be accessible to them at all, larva have a huge spawn rate, ants and lady bugs spawn inside rocks and underneath water, armor dummy's allow you to sometime dup armor and dummy's also glitch amor pieces which switches them to a different type (spider and ladybug head changed to acorn), anything with a lunge attack can faze through walls and into buildings SUGGESTIONS: amor and weapons equipped shouldn't take up invatory space or ability to get a tier 2/3 backpack, drop stack or trade option, sort invatory option, bigger party size, ability to "pin" armor like you can items so it auto equips when picked up, a way to use grass planks (once base is built they just lay scattered around with no use) or let us "scrap" them for even plant fiber It's an amazing game and I'm really enjoying myself I really hope this game makes it

  4. Goodmorrow to you my lovelies! I have been pondering about builds for a while and started about 5-10 topics to get ideas. I have finally come to a conclusion and would love to hear your thoughts about it. It is also partly for role playing as in that they're basically 5 bodies shared by one person so the same name etc. Kind of like a hive mind. They will all be human. Since we have now a few "What game would you like to see?" - topics I thought we could start this topic: There is a lot of talk about stories gamers don't like (biggest offender: "i was bored!"), but where there also any stories you would've liked to rewrite, just because they didn't live up to their full potential? If yes, why and how? Rules for this thread: - Name the game. - Write what problems the story had. - Write your suggestions. - Hopefully have fun writing them. - Profit. I will start with Dragon Age: Origins (and hope you've played this one). While not a bad game, the first Dragon Age bores me to death. The main reason is that the story gets really uninteresting after the origins, because I didn't played my origins character but a Grey Warden from that point on. Thing is: I never got a real idea what a Warden supposed to be. Sure, we got to know Duncan and Alistair, but the infos we got out of them were minimal at best (and let's be honest, Alistair isn't a credit to his order). So the connection to our order was mostly nonexisting and Ferelden really didn't live up to it's potential as a "barbaric" nation. So what could they have changed? Answer: Put the game in the northern nation of Andersfels. Why? - It's the homecountry of the Grey Wardens and their HQ could have been a nice hub. - The nation is very poor and it's king has only power in it's capital, which could have been a good explanation why the farmers depend on the Grey Wardens, with whom the King has some political tensions. - It's close to Tevinter and the Qunari, so the game could have introduced us to these nations, without stretching the plausability of the setting (I mean the mages came down to the south of Ferelden, just for a few slaves. You could have those cheaper, buddies^^). - Killing the king of Anderfels wouldn't have changed as much, as crowning the new King of Orzamar, because Anderfels is a very desolate country. - I could have an explanation why everyone is a Grey Warden and why they are immune to the poisonous blood of the Darkspawn, which was a thing ... at the beginning of the game. Okay, that's for the setting, how about the structure of the story? I would keep the "one adventure per location" - structure of the original, but would have burned down the smaller City after the halfpoint of the game, to raise the stakes. The players should feel a connection to the people living there, before I kill everyone. The role of the main-antagonist should also be divided between - The King of Anderfels (doesn't want to lose his crown and values the independence of his people) - The Grandmaster of the Grey Wardens (wants tighter controls on everything and turn the Grey Wardens in some kind of private army of the chantry and kill pagain traditions that might have survived the centuries). So I wouldn't change as much, just details to tighten up everything a bit and give the player more room to identify which the organisation he's supposed to be part of.

  7. I got a solid 18 hours out of this game which is about 5 more than I got out of Bioshock Infinite (which was $60) so I'm satisfied. I made 2 or 3 characters to figure out how to play the game, then went with an elven ranger. When I died, at least half of my party was level 5, about 14-15 hours into the game. I was being pretty careful to sweep town centers for quests and thought I was handling what I was coming across pretty well, with one out of area exception I managed to run from (tons of drakes coming from the craters). After a short questline and a battle where I brought some research papers to the compass, I returned to town to find a bunch of clockwork golems of one kind or another had taken over the area. I thought I might be able to walk away from it, but doing so seemed too stupid and disingenuous to the spirit of the game, so I went in to the building and tried to clear it. My party had nothing that I could throw at them. Once I had a party member drop, I was stuck, because of course you know, no man gets left behind. I tried a number of different techniques to split up the enemy, but at the end, I was too low on spells and health and one isolated creature wiped my four remaining characters. So here are my problems with the game for hardcore: Can't retreat from areas during combat. Too many enemies have non-sense run speeds. Can't abandon a party member even when rescue is hopeless. Enemies can't be coaxed around the map AND NPCs won't move to help you. The combination is these silly, isolated battles within earshot of one another. All together, the play feels like I'm in a straight jacket. This game has about zero replay value because everything spawns the exact same way. That's all fine. I was having a ball. I just don't understand why you would bother with a hardcore setting at all when the game is clearly no set up for it without reading spoilers and running from urgent plot points. Like I said, I had a good time with the game. The 15 hours I played continuously with my character were good. I'm just not going to run at this thing again until I look up some mods or something to fix it. Have fun.
  8. I don't see any where to add just random things you come across in the game so decided to start one. I was relaxing and just clicking on various NPCs when I ran across Meredith in one of the inns in Defiance Bay. Not much of a conversation but I did a double take. To be continued.

  10. I just felt like a bit a brief reviewing of all the games and expansions that have been released this year (and more are on the way - I will have to get back on them in this thread later). As I go first, I've decided to pick a format that was standard in the classic game magazines of the 80s. In particular, I'll borrow a few concepts from Zzap64!, which I adored. In order for me to review the games, I reckoned that my playtime needed to be at least 8 hours (like a day of playing it). However, a drawback is that some of the games have endings that are tens or hundreds of hours away, so this means I haven't seen everything in them yet. Well, here are the concepts that I'll be grading them with, using percentages, 0 being awaful, 100 being absolutely excellent: Hookability (fun gameplay and depth) Lastability (including replayability) Entertainment value (the passive fun-aspect of the game: How fun was it to watch, read and listen to) Out of these three, I'll calculate a mean value and call that the overall score. I won't rate them on graphics, sound or value for money. I'll rate the games in order of my playing them this year. I can't wait to see how Civ: Beyond Earth and DA:I will score on this list. There is also the possibility of Pillars of Eternity this year.   11. I just realized that the company name Obsidian consists of three names: Ob-Sid-Ian. Having deciphered this secret code, I can now give you the true meaning. First, I learnt from the absolutely bizarre site kabalarians.com that the name Ob entails this: Your name Ob gives you a strong sense of responsibility in business and material affairs, and the practicality and determination to make a success of anything you undertake. Your ability to organize and direct the efforts of others enables you to excel in any managerial position because you have the ability to grasp the concept of a goal complete with an understanding of the steps to be taken. This name has allowed you to develop depth and breadth of mind. You are able to retain facts, to grasp new information to your existing store of knowledge. You never seem to be out of your depth of understanding. For these reasons others who may not have the same quickness of mind classify you as a "know it all" and, although you may be highly respected, this characteristic is unlikely to endear you to your associates. You have a very responsible nature, are capable and mature, and are willing to assume a position as a pillar of the community. You are quite healthy, but possible trouble areas are found in the generative organs. You can't contradict Kabalarian Philosophy, it's just divine. The next name in Obsidian is of course Sid, and it's not Sid Meier of the Civilization franchise we're talking about. Obviously, it's Sid Vicious from Sex Pistols who set the spirit free and wild. Sid Vicious' true name was John Ritchie, but like Siddharta turning to Buddha, a pivotal defining moment in his youth changed everything: Ritchie was given the nickname "Sid Vicious" by John Lydon, after Lydon's pet hamster, Sid. The hamster had bitten Ritchie, who said that "Sid is really vicious!" The animal was described by Lydon as "the softest, furriest, weediest thing on earth." Obsidian knows this, but their favourite pet is not a hamster, but a badger, so they have infused their sacred name with a vicious badger that last was seen in MotB. The last name in Obsidian Is Ian. In this case, after quite some digging and more or less illegal research, I can reveal with certainty that it's the spirit of Ian Livingstone that is evoked. His brilliant FF-books and sharp D&D contributions makes him an ideal candidate to strengthen any CRPG endeavours. How clever of you, Obsidian! But now your closely guarded secret is out, so deal with it!
  12. This is good news! Our favourite game devs over at Obsidian Entertainment is as safe as safe can be in the US. According to Law Street, Irvine is the safest city in the entire USA! Here are a few blasphemous opinions of mine concerning CRPGs that I've merrily listed here: -I prefer four characters in a party over six -I've come to appreciate 3D CRPGs as slightly more fun than isometric ones -The NWN2 trilogy is better than BG 1 and 2, and basically any other CRPG in history -A minimalist UI is my cup of tea, not chunky boards and cariyatid-ridden blocks -RTwP is better for CRPGs than turn-based (even if I voted turn-based for ToN) -I actually enjoy the occasional random encounter -Pixel hunting and searching areas can be good fun in a CRPG... -...and the same goes for grinding -Companions are great and all, but I love creating an entire party from scratch even more -Character creation and dabbling with builds is like a third of what makes a CRPG great -Uneven pacing and occasional baddies being out of one's league is often good news -I've never really liked them magic users: I prefer to sneak, backstab, shoot arrows or just bash -The music and the sound effects is not just atmosphere. It's game-breakingly important pillars in a game -Pre-buffing never was fun -Occasional countdowns in combat? Sure Now, good folks, what are your blasphemous passions?
  14. The chaff from this morning's work has been the idea of going carolling to collect for Help for Heroes and Age Concern. I was thinking of good songs to sing. I don't think they need to be all trad christmas songs. Indeed I think many folks will give more if we leaven the carols with some fun ones they might actually want to sing to. Ideas? EDIT: Is anyone talented enough to fit Rammstein's 'Du Habst' to the tune of Deck the Halls?

  17. Hello. Rolling-up a character in the old-skool IE games was fun. As Psychoblonde said in another post, re-rolling stats using virtual dice is fun. Not point buy. Not select-a-character-and-go. No, listening to the theme music whilst drinking beer and clicking to get great stats. Now I know some very serious hard-core types like playing gimped characters as a challenge. More power to your elbow, and if you want to donate those unused ability score points to me I'll happily take them. Anyhoo, on to character generation. It should be fun. It should be a mini-game. Look at the personality test in Jagged Alliance 2. Consider the background rolls for careers in the P&P sci-fi game Traveller. What about those crazy background traits in Arcanum? I don't have a load of answers here, but can some consideration be given to making the process of character generation really, deeply cool in of itself. Give it more love than you'd usually expect. Amaze us. Delight us. Indulge us. Make rolling-up a character so cool that I'd want to do it again just for the hell of it. Stats, character background info (even if it is just for immersion rather than tangible performance), personality info, race / sex / class dealt with in a different way (maybe genders from different classes have different roles in their cultures and you get a comment when you go off-piste), starting equipment, money, appearance... Do NOT make it streamlined and 'convenient' (i.e. dumbed-down), a race to the bottom like, ahem, other RPG developers. What do others think?
