  1. Hello, I want to present my idea for a rogue. It's not pure assassin, it's more classical thief-rogue that's focused on finding traps and secrets, as well as dealing damage. Tell me what you think.
  2. Hello community, I am a long time RPG player, including both computer and PnP RPGs. Thus I have experience with these types of games. However... I do feel a bit overwhelmed, mainly by the lack of proper descriptions in this game. I decided to start with a ranged Cipher character. I read a few threads around this forum and have an idea what talents/spells are good picks. Skills, however, are a mystery to me. I want to ask - how many points does a character get? Because I want to put a few points in Athletics, Mechanics, Stealth, Lore... you get the idea. Now, I understand it might be better to focus and use NPCs to fill the holes, but I have no knowledge of what NPCs there are. My question is - between how many skills can I split my points and still function late game? I was thinking of getting Mechanics max, Lore up to 10 and some points in Stealth and Athletics. Is it doable? Also how's that for an attribute spread for my Wood Elf (i really really like the female elf model) Cipher: Might 16 Constitution 5 Dexterity 15 Perception 8 Intelligence 17(+1) Resolve 16
  3. I'm about to embark on my second playthrough of this wonderful game, and I've decided that I want to fully explore the wizard class. I did have Aloth with me last time, but honestly I never used him all that much (my cipher main basically just butchered everything). I have the following questions for all of you experienced wizard-players: 1. How useful do you find Blast and Penetrating Blast late game? The damage seems low, and you get per-encounter spells. I do not like Dangerous Implements so I won't be using that one. 2. Do Blast + Penetrating Blast work with the blights you can summon? That could make it worthwhile. 3. I assume Distant Advantage works with spells. But what about Mob Justice? Does it work with spells, and does it stack with Distant Advantage. Any input is appreciated
  4. Okay in another thread I got some advice about my barbarian, and after testing yesterday I cam e up with this Female Aumaua Barbarian. I want to use her as a DPS Barbarian fighting right beside or behind Edér with a Pike and Greatsword. Now during character creation I picked Barbaric Yell, and I got Carnage and Towering Physique automatically of course. And then in game I first picked Weapon Focus Soldier and on lvl 3 Frenzy. Now I checked this page ... http://pillarsofeternity.gamepedia.com/Barbarian But even though it shows what those abilities do, I have no idea which ones are really useful ( Or a must. ) for a DPS Barbarian build. ( Okay Thick-Skinned is a dead give away that it would fit in. )
  5. Hi mighty adventurers! Today's another great day of victory, Thaos died once again, but this time by the hand of a cruel and merciless Bleak Walker! This time I'm going to go a bit more in the details of the build that I used for my hero. 0. Introduction: Why a Paladin? Why a Bleak walker? Pros: - It's a good challenge to play a bad and mean character in a rpg - Paladins get bonus stats if you roleplay, and I was intrested in that kind of gameplay - Not the most common class used to solo the game, and I love new challenges Cons: - Not so many active and offensive skills, so a bit annoying the early levels - Extremely gear dependant - No shadowing beyond 1. Attributes - Might 18+ - Constitution 18+ - Rest of the stats 10 Constitution is the best stat to solo the game in my opinion. Some fights are really long (especially the last one) and without enough of Cons, you will not survive. Might is great, but I guess you can balance it with some Dex if you want to attack faster. 2. Skills Key points: - Athletics 2/3 (80/90% Combat fatigue reduction, essential imo) - Lore 2: You will need it the first part of the game to use flame fan scrolls for Caed Nua - Mechanics 10+ : OverPowered. Free traps, Free loot, Free XP all along the game. A Must have - Stealth: Optionnal, but still good to take when the rest is maxed out 3. Abilities & Talents Key points: - Faith and Conviction + Deep Faith: a must have to solo the game. Free defensive points - Lay on Hands: Free heal once per encounter - Cautious Attack (+10 Deflection) - Superior Deflection (+5 Deflection) - Unstoppable (+10 Defense against Blind, Daze, Hobble, Prone, Stuck) - Mental Fortress (+10 Defense against Charm, Confusion, Domination, Fear, Terror) - Zealous Endurance (+3 RD) - Sworn Enemy (Nice damage boost for single target) 4. Gear Those are Core Items, the rest of the gear is up to what you will find. Act1. - Outworn Buckler (Merchant Gilded Vale) - Gaun's Share (First dungeon, Gilded Vale) - Blunting Belt (Merchant, Gilded Vale) - Ring of Minor Deflection (Merchant/chest) - Plate Armor (Backer next to the tree, Gilded Vale) - Fire fan scrolls (Crafting + Chest) Act2. - Oaken Scarab Figurine (Hidden cache, Copperlane close to the comedians) - Iridescent Scarab Figurine (Heritage Hill) - Obsidian Lamp Figurine (First Fire) - Rotfinger Gloves (Merchant in Ondra's Gift) - Sanguine Plate (Task: The Forgotten) - Ring of Deflection (Merchant in Copperlane) - Gaze of the Adragan's Trap (Merchant, Copperlane) Act3. - Blesca's Labor (Merchant, Hearthsong) - Purgatory (On the way from Stormwall Gorge to Elmshore, group from the Key) - Animancer's Boots (on a corpse during the riot, end of act 2) - Bartender's ring (Locked chest, Copperlane) - Boots of Speed (Random loot) - Health potions (Craft) Screens of the Stats of my character here: - Attributes: http://i.imgur.com/1EfSeLU.jpg - Gear Bonuses: http://i.imgur.com/d2bAMEj.jpg - Abilities and Talent: http://i.imgur.com/yaHjino.jpg Final Boss Video: http://youtu.be/8GkU_V3gKVM I hope you enjoyed the video and the Build, if you need more explanations, feel free to ask as always
  6. Hi, I have recently finished my PotD run with a full party of 'supposedly min/max'd' (ew) custom characters. Now that I feel comfortable enough with the mechanics, I feel like it is now time for me to focus on the one aspect I have always loved in the IE games: theme of the party. Before we (or I) start, here are some links to some amazing high quality portraits with similar styles; permission already granted through their websites: http://www.jasonseow.com/poeportraits by Jason Seow - full permission to modify and repost http://wespenfresser.deviantart.com/ by wespenfresser - disallowed cropping and posting without link http://lucanii01.deviantart.com/art/Rain-the-Cipher-522921730 by lucanii - free download Feel free to let me know if there are more of these around so I can add them to OP. The topic at hand: Themes Many comes to mind when Pillars of Eternity contained such deep lore, the posibilities are limitless! I often imagine my group has just arrived in Dyrwood only to find the newborne nation to be in deep dissent rather than trying to solve the soul crisis. I'll list two of my favorites: Vailian Mercenary Warband Commissary - Gold Pact Paladin/Old Vailia Aristocrat Captain - Fighter/Old Vailia Mercenary Lieutenant - Fighter/Old Vailia Mercenary Sergeant - Fighter/Old Vailia Mercenary Specialist - Rogue/Old Vailia Laborer Chaplain - Priest/Aedyr Clergyman The White that Wends Expedition Emissary - Chanter/Aristocrat Adventurer - Fighter/Explorer Scout - Ranger/Hunter Guard - Fighter/Mercenary Fugitive - Rogue/Drifter Scribe - Cipher/Mystic These groups are far from being the most viable composition for PotD, but, hey, it's more fun this way.. based on personal taste. Post your party and its theme, along with whatever info you'd like to provide: Names, roles, classes, backgrounds, even bios! Let us all start lobbying for custom biographies for all the hired adventurers!
  7. I'm still thinking if to go melee or ranger style. What do you guys suggest, what should my build look like? Preferably melee, maybe. What build do you use? It's been a week since game launch and I'd like to hear what you've learned so far. Thanks
  8. Everyone knows Calisca, right? I'm start playing a DW warrior like Calisca was (human warrior). Any good ideas for stats, skills? What chants should i use?
  9. So, i realy enjoy hiring adventures even if they are 1 lvl below me.Last time i go with 4 chanters (Godlikes) and now i want to make this. I want 2 Fighters for my party.2 tanks, big shield and plate armor.Their weapons will be burning sword and freezing war hammer. I just have question about stats.I want to give them 19 Per/Res, race human. But how important is Inteligence to fighter?Does he have any skills (like prone) that require spell durration? Is 12 Con enough?Should i aim at Dex or make ballance between Mig and Dex. What are the essencial tallents for tanking with fighter?
  10. Hi, I am trying to plan a build for my Paladin and I could use some help picking Abilities (I'm good on Talents, I think). This is going to be an off-tank with Eder as my main tank, so it is more geared towards damage, specially opening batles with a gun and flames of devotion before switching to a pike. Here is what I have so far (The attribute distribution is suboptimal on purpose): Human - Aedyr Mercenary - Goldpact Knights Mig 11 - 15 (4) -> +15% Damage and Healing, +10 Fortitude Con 10 - 10 (0) Dex 10 - 15 (5) -> +15% Action Speed, +10 Reflex Per 10 - 14 (4) -> +12 Interrupt, +4 Deflection, +8 Reflex Int 10 - 12 (2) -> +12% AoE, +10% Duration, +4 Will Res 12 - 12 (0) -> +6 Concentration, +2 Deflection, +4 Will *I'll be trying to pick up any item/talent that gives me +deflection... I hate being squishy (Probably will stick to breastplates). 1 Flames of Devotion 2 Weapon Focus Soldier 3 Zealous Focus - +12 in Accurecy is important since base accuracy is low, can't afford to waste any Flames 4 Intense Flames 5 ? 6 Scion of Flame - I am hoping this stacks with Flames... 7 ? 8 Two-handed Style - Do we know if it also works with guns? 9 ? 10 Superior Deflection 11 ? 12 Deep Faith Any thoughts?
  11. I was wondering since monks main power is from getting damaged. Isn't the most ideal monk build a low reflex so he or she gets hit more often? That would allow the monk to use his or her powers more?
  12. Hi folks, since i've seen the Deadfire-Archipelago raider background i desperately want to create and rp some kind of pirate/buccaneer type of character, but I sort of feel like i don't know how to pull it off properly, so any input would be appreciated... I was thinking rogue or maybe even barb for class, dual wielding the ruffian weapon set (sabres, pistols), but from what i've experienced in the game so far (20h in) i hardly believe that this could be viable, for i find the rogue super-squishy... thanks in advance
  13. Hi, i want to create a Cipher for my second playtrough. This time i want to min/max a little bit.I aim to create a inteligence-based CC spells only Cipher, to get most out of max Int. I want to use guns.Mainly because i never played ranged, and didnt played much of a dnd rpgs with gunpowder. RACE Should i choose Godlike for that +1 inteligence? And try to max out Int to 20?If yes, what kind? The racial bonuses seems a little off... Or just go with human? Atributes What would be the ideal number of inteligence for max CC?Is 20 overkill?I dont think that Might will give me bonus to ranged damage.Low cont is ok, i will be back anyway and plan to have at least 2 tanks.High dex i suppose, and maybe resolve for interupting reloading and casting spells? Talents From Cipher tallents: Greater Focus.Since i will do big damage, should i have this so i can earn more? Biting whip?I think its good, i would take it. Draining whip?Instead of Greater focus? Psychic/brutal backlash.Since im not at front lines, i will not be will targeted, no? All tallents Weapon Focus Ruffian.I think its must.I will be using pistol AND blundebuss. Marksman/Close shooter : What is close and what is distant?I would take Marksman. Gunner.Since guns are slow to reload, would this be good? Two-handed style.Wiki didnt sad it is only for melle...so i dunno What about armor?Should i carry only light?Or some lighter medium armor? if you have any tips in area i didnt mention, let me know. And thank you in advance for any advice!
  14. Chaps, I'm considering doing a big chunk of work 'on the road', and consequently I'm thinking about having a laptop. Requirements at end. I need your help refining those requirements, and suggesting possible solutions. Implicit in being this rigorous is that I don't wnat to overspend, although I can justify spending whatever I need to meet my core requirements. Novel solutions would be fun, but would probably kick up the cost. ~~ Size: No minimum size, maximum size 24" screen Weight: 2kg [remember my busted back?] + 1kg peripherals Battery life: 4 hours (longest expected transit time) use Software: - Must be capable of running DVD video from external drive - Must be capable of running MP3/4 type music and video - Must be capable of running MS Word/Excel or compatible equivalents Games: Principle requirement is for strategy games. Some help needed refining this requirement. Content to play games up to - for the sake of argument - Company of Heroes 1; Left 4 Dead 2; with minimal graphics options. Graphics: As above. Anticipate requirement for dedicated GPU, but not obligatory. Connectivity: - Must be capable of accessing secure wireless. No requirement for Bluetooth or other connectivity types. - Must be capable of interfacing with trackball type mouse; anticipate USB, but not obligatory
  15. I don't think the devs have talked too much about how the character creation will be yet, but one thing I loved from both arcanum and fallout were the different strengths/flaws/perks that could make your character feel much more unique. Often times though, they are usually made to make the character stronger in some way, with only a small penalty at something at most (since most people don't want to gimp their character voluntarily). While I would like that too of course, I would also be happy to see some more serious flaws. I actually googled a little about this and found this page: http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/3.5e_Flaws Some examples from there are: 1) Favorite target = For one reason or another, you find yourself the chosen target of the enemies your party fights. 2) Fear of magic = You find magic incredible frightening. 3) Narcissistic = Your devotion to your own beuty tends to be distracting 4) Pyromania = You love setting things on fire and watching it burn! Now, I can think of a few ways on how to go about this. Either once could simply be FORCED to pick at least, say 2 of these traits to continue the character creation, so one would normally pick the least worse traits for the character they are going to build. OR, you woud at the end get these 4 traits chosen randomly for you. Of course, there should be a button to "reroll". Kinda like the dice rolling when doing your stats in the Baldurs Gate games. Usually I hate dice rolling for stats, but I think I would like a system like randomizable traits like these for some reason. To make an example for the latter, say that we are trying to do a sorcerer of some kind. Trait (1) is obviously quite the weakness for a very squishy character, and um, trait (2) would certainly be an "interesting" choice for a sorcerer... (3) Is a really small weakness, and can even be "desired" for your character depending on how you want to roleplay. Trait (4) would probably add some extra damage to your fire spells, and might also lead to some extra conversation options... Or lack thereof, if you see a village burning you cant bring yourself to stop it, and instead just admire it... Now, imagine the same scenario, with the difference that we are trying to build a tank like character. Suddenly (1) becomes a strength and not a weakness, while the others become mostly smaller annoyances to different degrees. Of course, there is one major weakness with a system like this: You might WANT to play a narcistic character, but keep clicking the "randomize traits" button over and over without it ever showing up - and when it does, the other traits are the worst possible for your specific character. It might be an idea to give the OPTION to select these traits manually, one by one. Maybe letting this be an option unlocked after the first time you beat the game? Thoughts?
