  1. Content wise, even with the missing endings, it is so much better than the first. This game is at least halfway fun to replay, the original has no replay value at all. The characters are better, the inventory is better, the sidequests are better, the upgrade system is much better, the voice acting is better, the quality of the composition of the music is better (not the compression), and the story until the last 2 hours of the game is better.

Edit: And for me, somehow, even with an ATI card, the framerate is better and crashes are fewer.

Well, I respect your opinion but I COMPLETELY disagree! Sure TSL added a few nice tweaks to the play system but that's about it...

I think KOTOR has MUCH, MUCH, MUCH more replay value than TSL! Let's consider the characters for a moment: Not as many in KOTOR, but they all had a purpose, they all had quests that fleshed them out, they were well acted, written and executed. In TSL the characters, for the most part, have NO quests to help develop them, their dialogue is circular and non-sensical and as far as I can see, most of them contribute NOTHING to the story in any way.

I really can't overstate how BAD the dialogue in this game is! It reminds me of poorly written and incompetently translated Anime! It just goes on and on and on.... most of the time contradicting itself and making no sense at all.

And as for side quests in TSL... Where are they? Really, if I missed them, please let me know!

  2. I have really no interest in playing super hero games.

That is cool. We all have different tastes when it comes to entertainment, some people actually liked KotOR 2, but I would download the demo before I wrote it off totally. The only reason I ever tried the game was because it was recommended and I am glad I did.

I agree! Try the demo before you write the game off!

The demo contains one full length mission with a pretty cool hero (Tombstone) and a really tough boss (Fortissimo)... Also you can play online multi-player games with the demo. Definitely worth the download!

    Get the demo here!

  3. Y'know what. ($&!(&$ PC games. I'm tired of this, so many games have been released recently that don't even come close to working.  Sooner or later other people are going to do what I'm gonna do.

    I'm done buying pc games.

I'm sick of being conned.  When you buy something, it's supposed to work.

Hey if you want to play a NEW game, try Freedom Force vs. The Third Reich it actually WORKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! While you're at it, cruse the bargain bin and get Freedom Force too! Those are great games by a developer that CARES about making QUALITY games for PC....

    Lotsa mods too!

    Find GOOD PC games here!

  4. CNN Breaking News:

Today, one of the most "exciting" game developer companys, Obsidian

Entertainent, was captuered trough a TaskForce Team by the FBI "&" CIA

    for disturbing the national security.

"This had to be done alot time before the rumors had started in the country,"

    an Insider told us.

An other executive member told us, that the OE crew was locked in a room with keysystem,

with no chance to escape for them.

They had 12 PCs (1/2 ati nvidia

amd intel win linux) and 24 self purchased version of TSL.

They were so long locked, till this game will operate nearly 99,99% bugfree

    on each system.

So the only hope for us is, that they really take care of the Problem and that we

as ppl of this big nice state can go safely out without been hit by falling TSL

    Packs out of windows.

    Good Night

:- <-- Did I mention how much I dig this smiley?

  5. crashes bugs etc?  or stay with 4.11?

It's the ONLY driver that worked for me. I have a 9600 series AGP/128mb card.

PS If you try it, DON'T down load Catalyst Control Center! I think CCC was causing most of my problems to begin with. Also be sure to pick 'Application Preference' EVERYWHERE in the advanced settings....

After I did this I had NO vid card issues with the game.

    good luck.

  6. No I am not.  I simply have a midrange system with a midrange video card.

Nothing special here.  Maybe if people learn to read the Required/Recommended information of the game box some people wouldn't be having these problems.  If people remembered when KotOR 1 came out it had ATI problems as well.  Seems to me that people can't read and have a lousy memory.

Ahh, so you don't deny being my little nose-goblin then?

  7. For crying out loud when will the patch be finshed? "Coming soon" isn't much of a comfort. Obsidian get busy already.

Are you SURE you need the patch?

I just ran my KOTOR2 updater and here's what it had to say on the subject:

Your game version is: 2.00.424 English

Stop running this every 5 minutes, you little wanker.

Time taken to patch game 0:00:09

    Get a life.

    Done

    ;)

  8. ;)

    Okay...

Hey, did I mention the new catalyst drivers are working for me?

Which must mean that ATI finally fixed the rendering context problems in their drivers. Was about time.

    I guess.

All I know is CAT 5.3 is the ONLY driver I've tried so far that lets me play the game without lock-ups.

    Woo HOO!

    :D

PS You know, after all this trouble getting the game to run, I'm kinda disappointed with the game itself... It's sorta like a REALLY bad anime DVD. :(

I think I'll go play Freedom Force vs The 3rd Reich! ...

while I wait for CONTENT patch.

  9. I am at the Citadel station where i am in my appartment with the incomming msgs...

since that i get all the time randomly (at least it seems) crashes

    c++window  abnormal termination in kotor2.exe

    my specs:

    XP sp2 (utd)

(kotor is to 1a patched from beginning)

    MSI Starforce FX5950Ultra (256mb)

    Driver: 71.22

    DX9c

    P4 HT 3Ghz

    2x256Mb DDR400 CL3

    Ingame settings are as followed:

800x600 All effects at high expect antialiasing and anisotropic they are both off now

it looks like this problem has notthing to do with game config more with bugs...

dissapointing crap!!!!!! i cant even get outside the apartment because of this stupid gamecrashes (they come allways while in dialog)

maybe someone can help me or tell me how i could get support from this obsi team..

    Thanks

Sounds like a bug to me. Do you have any 'missing' party members?

I had a similar problem on the fuel station after I 'lost' T3.

Your best bet is to start from an earlier saved game and keep your fingers crossed that the bug doesn't occur again.

  10. Heya!

I was curious about the backwards-compatability of the patch. Early on, it was mentioned that it was unknown whether the patch would fix issues that *had already been encountered*...

This means that apart from actual crash issues, there are many things that may not be fixed, such as graphics glitches, broken dialogue strings and the fast skipping dialogues and scenes.

I have already uninstalled the game in preparation for the patch... this was about a month ago!!

Does anyone have a more informed clue as to whether many of these bug fixes would require a re-installation?

Umm, no. BUT I'm pretty sure playing the game again will require a re-install.

    :p"

PS update your vid card driver.

  11. The crash issues with ATI video boards has been going on for quite a while -- ever since first KotOR, and mostly when changing video modes for cinematic playback and back or immediately thereafter (IIRC). I believe it had to do with KotOR games mixing API's and/or changing resolutions for cinematic playback; KotOR uses OpenGL for main engine but could be using GDI/DirectX for cinematic playback. Before calling ChangeDisplaySettings() to change resolution, one needs to completely shut down OpenGL API by deleting rendering context, destroying window and unloading OpenGL32.dll. After changing resolutions, of course OpenGL needs to be loaded again, new window and rendering context created, all OpenGL parameters and matrices reset, and all textures reloaded. Quake 2 does it that way, and this is the only way that works with all OpenGL drivers and video cards (effectively, it's the same as shutting down the application and then starting it up again). But some games, like KotOR and Half-life, appear to just make the OpenGL rendering context inactive before changing video modes, and then making it active again. Few drivers handle this properly.

    :p

    Okay...

Hey, did I mention the new catalyst drivers are working for me?

  12. I WAS getting random crashes and HARD REBOOT LOCK-UPS, but after I DLed the latest catalyst drivers from ATI, not one problem! (w00t)

Warning: DO NOT DOWNLOAD THE NEW CATALYST CONTROL CENTER! ( what a piece of CRAP that is... >_< )

As a matter of fact, if you have any version of CCC installed, GET RID OF IT!

Just use the original ATI control panel you got with your card and the NEW drivers only!

Oh yeah, be sure to set VPU recovery to 'on' and pick 'application preference' EVERYWHERE in the advanced settings 3D tab.

    Worked for me...

    :D

  13. This is what the readme on MY game said:

    ------------

    Known Issues

    ------------

    --------------------

    Intermittent Crashes

    --------------------

The game may freeze or crash to a blank screen if you play

in one level for extended periods of time. This was typically

seen when playing the game between thirty and forty minutes

without transitioning to a new level or movie.

We chose to cash-in on the popularity of KOTOR by rushing

a half-done product to market rather than address the many

tech issues we found during beta testing. Hope you don't mind...

We might get  'round to a patch in a few months, you see, our

head programmer is out sick right now. He tripped over a HUGE

pile of loose cash we made from the sale of this defective game

and broke his arm. You know how it is...

Anyways, I have to catch a flight to Hawaii...

    YOINK!
