not sure bioware still making game

been years since last heard anything about da4

They've released some non-news of it the past few years, basically trying to convince everyone they're still making it.

Supposedly they made a big design shift in the middle of development, from a more multiplayer oriented to single-player oriented, so taking that into account the development time doesn't seem that strange. Firing lots of veterans is more critical, I'd say.

Wait, wait, wait, it's been brought to my attention that the man, the myth, the legend J K Simmons does voice work in this game. That's all the more reason to play this, which I intend to at some point.

While he plays a pretty important character, he doesn't have a massive amount of lines. So don't set yourself up for disappointment. :p

Personally, I found his character to not be very interesting.

But is this true to the extent that you can also get *good* encounter/quest/story/companions outcomes?

Lots of good outcomes include avoiding combat.

But not as a whole up to act2, you'll be skipping a lot stuff if you absolutely avoid combat.

It's a bit misleading, speed runners can reach end of act2 in 8mins, because a lot of the stuff is plain skippable.

Wormie you need to explain to your companions that " No means NO " !!!

But maybe you made your character too hot, how hot are you?

If only you got the option to say no. But instead of that you get endless amounts of very obvious hinting and flirting, and you have to just stand there.

Haven't played it since last night, but I forgot to mention Astarion and Karlach both came onto my Bard. Karlach needed to cool down so I threw some water at her.

All my companions are coming onto me. It's quite annoying.

There seems to be some cut-off point, where you can lock in to a relationship. After that some of them started crying I chose someone else.

The game just randomly decided to reset back to default. I started the game as usual, got greeted by the EULA, went through gamma correction and had to rebind my keys. I hope it doesn't do that again, otherwise I might have to go Dark Urge on it.

Game crashed for me once, and recommended to check the files (using steam, I think?). This reset all the settings, including the collector's edition items (endless gold bug!).

So I've finally found a major bug, and it's connected to a hard (for me) fight

Auntie Ethel's Hair does not provide a +1 stat bonus like it says. I reloaded just to kill her because I was so pissed.

The fight itself is hard because her illusion clones share her spells and have their own actions....which means your party can get hit by 3 Hold Person or 4 Ray of Sickness. Oh, and she always wins initiative. It's not a great time, luckily Karlach hit her like a truck, Astarion was able to run fast and hit illusions with bonus actions, and my Bard had an AoE spell that killed her when she went invisible. I would honestly recommend waiting until you hit level 5 to hit Ethel's part of the swamp, you can do the Druid investigation outside of her area.

On the bright side, if you managed to see past the illusion for the area you realize redcaps are pretending to be sheep, which gives you a great dialogue where you play along.

    Magic Missile.

This is what I'm seeing in Steam forum comments and of course reddit as well: the "this is the greatest game ever made" crowd whining about and attacking and trying to shut down anyone who dares to disagree and have even the tiniest criticism of the game. And it's also what I as a critic of the game have often been subjected to in the Larian forum (although I also have been defended by at least some people, @Wormerine included :)). What is it about BG3 specifically that's making so many people behave this way, I wonder?

Funnily enough, most reviews and comments I've read seem to agree with the main criticism of that Eurogamer reviewer, in that the game is good but Act 3 is lackluster compared to the start.

Most people just don't seem to consider it that big of a problem.

I've also seen a lot of people downplay it along the lines of "oh, that always happens with Larian".

People harp on how much choice the game gives you - and I am just not feeling it. I can't recall when was the last choice I made - outside the big good/bad path. Sure, I get a choice to murder everyone I meet, but that's not a real choice, is it. I also don't like that the game lacks guts to restrict content. I already traded off "speaking with animals" from my PC. It's a worthless skill to own, considering how easily it is acquired from other sources. It' a real shame, speak with dead/animals etc. could provide nice spins to individual playthroughts, but the game is incapable of rewarding those choices - instead it's choose to make everything available to everyone, making everything feel rather bland.

I think most of the "choice" it gives is reactivity to skills, classes etc other traits. Meaning you can approach something in many different ways. In this respect I think BG3 does better than most RPGs.

It doesn't change the overall narrative at all, outside of that one big good/evil choice.

There seems to be lots of variation on how various quests play out, but these seems to be mostly on a successful vs not-so-successful axis.

(e): Okay, weird, I switched out a couple of items and suddenly my character learned how to run with a great sword without lopping her own head off. Well, at least she's learning.

There's some kind of default "holding onto things" way they carry stuff it defaults to sometimes. My Bard sometimes swings her lute around by the neck of the thing.

Descriptions say they don't get used if you succeed, and I just tested it: I had two, I succeeded at lockpicking a door, I still had two after.

The 50 lockpick kits in my inventory also say they don't get spent.

  11. I respecced my companions ability scores, but otherwise kept them the same.

Wyll's scores are the most stupid. He's supposed to be some kind of sword expert, but has Str 9 Dex 12.
