  1. The new patch solved the issue!!!

Most of my saves are now restored and I will be happily playing the game in a week's time :)

Thank you devs for taking this patch serious, a great improvement!

I have recurrence of the issue as of latest patch. I think it's just the number of saved files. I go in, delete a few, right as rain. If you just stick to keeping maybe 4 or 5 instead of dozens like me, you'll be fine.

  2. I couldn't load any of my saved games.  The Load option was greyed out every time I start the game.  This has been brought up on a number of threads.  I tried deleting the local content via the Steam UI and re-downloading, with no results.  Occassionally an error occurs and it generates the following log:

    Unity Player [version: Unity 4.6.1p2_961a19933c56]

    KERNELBASE.dll caused a Breakpoint (0x80000003)

      in module KERNELBASE.dll at 0023:751e3226.

    The following worked for me:

    1) Went to C:\Users\username\Saved Games\Pillars of Eternity and zipped up my saved games, which I then moved to a different location.

    2)  I deleted or moved all of my saved games.

    3) Restarted the game and confirmed that the load option was no longer greyed out.

    4) Took my most recent save from the backup location and placed it back in the PoE saved game directory.

    5)  Loaded it and it worked fine.

My best guess is that the bug is either from (a) the index of saved games taking too long to populate or (b) the game being unable to gracefully handle corrupted saved games.  Since my most recent saved game worked fine, it seems unlikely that the corruption -- if that was the cause -- was introduced by gameplay.

What I've discovered is that it's the number of saved game files. Once you go above a certain number of saved game files, you can no longer load your games. I just go in and delete the oldest ones, then it's all good.
