  1. Post above = THANK YOU.

Because the U.N. doesn't take enough action, it's forced America to become the Dirty Harry of the world. (Not that the Security Council has helped it any.) Where is the U.N. in Africa? In South America? The U.N. has become the League of Nations of its time: a nice gesture, but in reality powerless.

  2. This is why people think the UN is 'weak', when in reality it's mostly one nation that's actively trying to ruin the UN reputation: America.

You know, if they ever took a vote to force China to submit to government inspections, China would veto it. Ditto for Russia. The Security Council is a relic left over from WWII that should have been abolished (or at least, refined) years ago.

And I have to agree: the UN hasn't taken a strong enough stand on human rights in the past twenty years. It's like they refuse to aid Africa, like they've given up because it's just such a mess.

  3. Its entirely wrong that more then 2000 american civilians died in the WTC, but you have to know that when you take a job with one of those companies that you are effectively a cog in the machine that oppresses individuals and that one day those people are going to revolt.

You have to bring in the bread somehow. If that means working for a home insurance company in the WTC, so be it. I'm not proud, I'd do it; my mom worked at the WTC for awhile. The immigrants and the lower/middle class who worked there did not in any way deserve what happened. They had more in common with the common man in the middle east than the American rich.

  4. True. This time, unfortunately, we don't seem to have bombed the right government.

But we're talking about September 11th specifically, here. I'm not saying he wasn't a bad guy. His government, however, wasn't the one most closely linked to the attacks. I don't believe any of the hijackers were Iraqis, either.

  5. The difference is that he wasn't backed or funded by any governments.

True. This time, unfortunately, we don't seem to have bombed the right government.

No, the 9/11 attacks was a foriegn operation. They are funed outside the US but trained in the US and used our planes as weapons.

Do you know that bin Laden himself was trained by Americans to do their dirty work in defeating the Soviets in Afghanistan? Do you know where all those weapons first came from? Do you know that American and Saudi oil money is all tied up in this? No, it was not a foreign operation.

Also note that Monroe Doctrine is still in affect. So North and South America is our control.

Really? Tell that to the South Americans getting killed down there by death squads. That's not terrorism?

  6. Actually Meshugger is the one to get drafted since he lives in finland and finland has mandatory drafting system.

That's tough luck, man. Come live in America. It's not mandatory here yet. (But really, Finland has an army? :- )

You know, here at least, draftees don't get shipped off to war if they don't want to, and it so happens that some of those who initially resist end up continuing or taking international assignments. Besides, you need an education to become an officer.

Guess who gets shot at a lot of the time? People who are not officers.

We have space shuttles and dozens of satellites. We have put a man on the moon, who else can claim the same?

And what good does that man on the moon do me? NOTHING. V-5 rockets haven't bridged the wealth gap, funded my college education, or provided me with free reliable health care. Or even a free lunch. Come on, really!

  7. Yep. That's how it works. Nobody said it had to be pretty or leave a nice aftertaste.

You know, I have a feeling that if we all lived in the third world countries that actually did get bombed, we'd be a whole lot less blase, myself included.

  8. What the US needs to do, is recall the draft and make sure that everyone does his/hers job serving their country. It also abolishes the situation where ordinary civilians might be treated as a second-hand citizens.

Well, that's easy to say when you're not the one getting DRAFTED.

Well I like the idea. Joining the military proves that your are loyal to the United States of America and it will also make you proud to be a American.

Well, you just go and join it then. I'm quite comfortable living on the scenic east coast. While you're at it, read Johnny Got His Gun if you haven't already.

They tell you to bomb that area. You bomb that area.

So it's not your fault when you kill innocent people. You just did what they told you to. SUBJECTIVE MORALITY GO

  9. Just read the Gamespy review, which has some interesting tidbits (and journalisitc "quality" slightly higher than that of IGN's):

Finally, there are the three endings (good, evil, and neutral), each one wildly different from the others.

Looks like they listened to the fans. I'm curious to see a neutral ending.

veryone you meet has something interesting to say, and the NPCs don't repeat themselves nearly as much as they did in KotOR. The dialogue is much better this time around, too, and there are some excellent flashes of black humor, as well as some truly disturbing sequences (ghastly dead children, anyone?).

If they pulled it off as well as Gamespy makes it sound, I'd be happy.

Be on the lookout for several celebrity voiceovers, too, including one particularly funny turn by a Monty Python alum.

    OMG AAAH! (w00t)

One of the best things about the game is the fact that you won't have to spend the majority of your time swapping out armor, weapons, or items. There isn't much in the way of inventory in Jade Empire, and it's refreshing to be able to focus solely on the gameplay, rather than ensuring you're wearing the right boots or carrying the best sword for the task at hand.

Ugh, I'm getting horrible Fable flashbacks...

  10. I was discussing generalities. My statement do not and were not intended to encapsulate every individual player. By an large the numbers prove me right.

I apologize; I didn't mean to sound so confrontational. It's just that so many older gamers blame younger ones for the trend of "dumbing down" games. It's kind of like that chauvinistic stuff some gamers pull on women, like they don't know enough to play well. (I'm sorry, I've just encountered both in the past.)

  11. 1. Why didn't the player character have a voice, like in KotOR? It was useful even just to receive some indication that you'd scored a critical hit.

Because you should've heard the speculation going around the Bioware forums about Revan's voice. A sampling:

"Wait, it sounded English! Revan is from Coruscant!"

"No way! It is so an American accent!"

    and on and on.

    9. Why have repeated the same dialogue options with both Wisdom and Awareness? Does the answer change if the question is asked out of Wisdom instead of Awareness?

In case you had a higher wisdom versus awareness or vice-versa. Probably something that was missed or left out of Q/A--more trouble than it's worth to fix.

    19. Who was the Exile traveling to Telos with on the Harbinger and what happened to them? The captain's logs clearly refer to picking up multiple passengers.

Diplomats/Republic personages, I believe. There's a datapad somewhere saying something to the effect that you were the exception to the rule.

    20. How could the force field barriers in the Peragus fuel depot actually seal off explosions or fuel leaks when the separated sections had open ceilings?

    Magic.

    30. Why did Hanharr's subtitles say "Jeedai" instead of Jedi? Clearly, the wookie wasn't actually saying anything that sounds like either. So why misspell it?

    Regional accent?

    35. What did Master Zez-Kai-Ell mean when he said, "...and although I would not keep promises to Jedi, I keep promises I make to others" ? ...Jedi are not others?

He made the promise to Kavar as a friend, not a Jedi.

    41. The properties of Nomi's Armband sold by Geeda show "+1 vs. Dark Side." What does that mean?

+1 vs. Dark Side powers, i.e. Insanity.

    44. If Vrook's plan was to gather info from the mercs about the Khoonda attack why did rescuing him "ruin the best chance of averting an attack" ? He'd already collected the info and now needed to tell Khoonda, no?

The Exile is wrong. ALWAYS wrong.

    51. How did powering up the Mass Shadow Generator "undo" the damage caused by the Mass Shadow Generator?

I'm not sure. I assume it inverted on itself to destroy Malachor?

    Hope that helps.

  12. There are many, mainly younger (teenage xbox) players who love this game based solely on the fighting and gameplay. For the most part they clicked through the dialouge and did not notice or care about the inconsistencies of the story. For the real RPG fans (mainly 20-30 something PC) players, this game was a real heartbreaker.

Wait...I'm not 20 yet, therefore I'm not a real cRPG fan. Nevermind that I've been playing Baldur's Gate, Fallout, et al. since I was 12. Oh my, I've become a conundrum!

So, therefore, I'm a teenage Xbox player. But I didn't click through the dialogue--the reason I bought the game in the first place was because I was impressed with Chris Avellone's work. AND I ENJOYED IT. I'll say it: despite its bugs, plot holes, and rushed ending, KOTORII IS AWESOME in my viewpoint.

Meaning, you ran around like a fool and did really stupid jobs for NPC's that had no real significance - but if you didn't, the game wouldn't progress.

Let me think of other games where that happens...wait, it's almost every RPG on the market. Name one game with no FedEx portions. It's a symptom of the genre, not just one game.

Also, what's with all the new lightsaber colors...? Though it's not my biggest complaint, but what ever happened to just green, blue, and red? Whoever thinks this makes the game better, it doesn't; it just takes away from the classic originality of star wars, and possibly to get more people to buy the game.

Obsidian does not equal George Lucas. Blame him.

  13. This one was unintentional:

On GOTO's yacht, there's that room filled with turrets. So I go in there with Kreia and Mira, constantly casting Destroy Droid. Eventually I run out of energy shields, so I run back into the adjoining room. I'm standing there, having Kreia cast Heal, when suddenly I hear blaster fire. I turn the camera around, and amazingly, a TURRET HAD FOLLOWED ME OUT of the room.

I was unable to play for a few minutes after that.

  14. This happened to me as well, but really due to me being kind of forgetful--I had forgotten to click on the dead mercs in the room where you find Disciple because I reloaded, so when I went to the cave nothing was there. If you have any suspicion that's what might have happened, go back to the Academy and try it.

  15. The use of flashbacks stops the story and makes it stagnant. If a story point in the past is important to the present, don't use a flashback but actually draw out the information and drama in current action. Flashbacks are a crutch and should be avoided as much as possible.

I agree that in conventional writing they are often a crutch used to hide poorly thought out plots/characters. If the whole story turns around the use of flashbacks, though, and it's not just a cheap gimmick, it can be a very interesting literary tactic.

  16. Well, there is one in, where Atton finds out and he explains that he sends them to prevent the Republic Agents searching for him because he didn't call in.

Hmm...I had full influence with both Atton and the Disciple and never got those...ARGH

Well, he does call Carth if you're Male...

? Disciple can't be in your party if you're male.
