  1. I just did all the Defiance Bay quests (that don't involve leaving the city), on hard, and I used camping supplies a grand total of once. I honestly don't get everyones issue with spamming rests, why do people need to? Granted I was going to Inn's, but I never went to an area, left to go to an inn, and then went back, I just did the different quests/areas in one go, then went and rested.

Honestly, it seems like some people are spamming every per rest skill they can as much as possible, maybe this is something tied into how other games have been (dragon age), maybe it's because they need to so they defeat enemies, I don't know. But if you need to spam per rest skills so much, maybe turn the difficulty down?

  2. Today just has one of those epic video game feelings I have not felt in quite some time. Release is in about 20 minutes, I'm pre loaded and ready to go and amazon says my hardback collectors strategy guide is on the truck and out for delivery. I also have today, tomorrow, Sunday and Tuesday off of work. Man oh man oh man I have not been this excited for a game release in quite some time. The fact that its an old school CRPG and not some generic console game sequel just makes it even more special. I cannot believe the day is here and finally arrived.

Exactly this, I think the last time I had this feeling was before GW2 launch. (And luckily this isn't an mmo, so I won't spend the rest of the day laughing at everyone else not being able to play, while I have uninterrupted fun on the servers!)

  3. Ah, the woes of GOG gamers not being able to pre-load...

Sit down young man and hear a story of when I was young... which is... approximately 8 years or so ago.

We didn't have fancy Steam downloading all our stuff, we had to go out to a STORE (no not the supermarket, a video game store... what do you mean, you have no idea what that means?). We came home, and had to swap around 6 CD's (DVD's weren't used back then) to install our games.

Then it was time to load up our dial-in interwebs of the awesome 56k variety and download some patches of a massive 20MB for several hours.

When all that was then we booted the game, and looked into our box for a CD-key and manually type that in in a box before our game, hopefully, started flawlessly.

Yes, you young kids don't know how good you have it. *grumbles into himself and walks away murmering*

This is what we call 'Advancement', if we set our expectations based on how things use to be, then I guess I stop feeling sorry for myself when I get ill, because i don't have the plague?

  4.

But some stuff in PoE, practically everything centred around backers, isn't just silly, it's flamboyantly breaking the 4th wall. And seriously, **** that ****, it ruins the integrity of the setting, breaks the suspension of disbelief, and comes across as incredibly jarring.

Let the backers have their toys and let the ones that don't mind or doesn't care keep it, but the game and the experience should come first, which is why all of that should be optional.

but the original Baldur's Gate did that themselves. "Oh, yes omnipresent authority figure?" and "stop touching me" as just too examples of many. Even after all these years those lines still make me laugh. If just depends how they are handled in game.

Those lines are two of my favourites of any games. 4th wall breaking stuff can be good.

  5. The whole second half of this thread is one giant First-World Problems meme.

"New video game releases at 10AM on Thursday, but didn't get to preload it in time to play it the second it fired up, *crying woman face*"

So I guess if the games broken after the first half hour, no ones allowed to moan, because first world problems? First world problems is just a pretty pointless argument. We're in first world countries, as such, our problems are first world problems.

  6. Hollow Crown does have a point, I personally will (should) have no problems downloading it berfore-hand, but there are plenty of people around the world, who downloading 25gb's will take more than a day (bearing in mind, that they probably won't be starting the download until they're back from work). So say you live outside of America, you get the key on Wednesday, but you're going to work, you get back home from work, you start the download, you then have to go to sleep, wake up, back to work, get home from work, and continue downloading.

I see both sides of the issues in the past week, but the thing is, we're not people that purchased a game, we're people that funded a games development. Being treated like someone that bought a game, it just feels 'off' to me.

  7. I have a few names from a tonne of roleplaying through mmo's, and they (generally) fit (at least a little bit) most lore. so:
    Mileka Falite,
    Clariel Anders,
Jere Anders (These two are the main part of my Wasteland 2 party, so probably won't be seeing PoE for a while!)
Grorgir (or Gorgir) Gronst (Saved for generic stupid Fighter)
    Elska Eldurheift (Paladin character name)
Violet Eilberin (Human-esque magical type character, used mostly for a character that hasn't got much experience of fighting or anything).

At the moment I'm liking that Mileka character type (pretty based off of a Joan Jett style attitude, she's badass), so I'll probbaly be going with Mileka Falite! (I can't wait until DA:I when that names going to fit into the Orlesian lore so well :3)
