  1. Well this was...painful... It may not have been worth reading it even for the story. I already knew the story, but I thought the book would connect the dots and add transitions between story points. Sadly I didn't find any of that. The books seem like a kid playing in his fathers garage with tools he doesn't know anything about. Maybe it's because I was skimming through it that something was lost on me, but I mostly skimmed through the Murbella pov, so that I doubt that explains Duncan's story at all. Teg's ending was, first of all a spit in the eye of the reader and second of all so unimaginative. So much words spent on characters that did not matter at all and so little spent on the one who is the supposed epicenter of the story.

I don't know what to say, maybe the son should have tried some shrooms, but I doubt that could have helped any with this train wreck....

This book is basically a fanfick novel.

  2. Does anyone have a recommendation for a Switch with the following specs:

    - at least two 10gb ports

    - at least two PoE ports

    - and between 10 and 16 2.5 gb ports (or faster) edit: thinking about it. they don't really need to be that fast, but I would like to have at least two (apart from the 10gb ports) that are 2.5 for the access points

    - without fans (or very quiet)

Bought a new higher capacity battery from lenovo. I waited a month for it and now when I got it I open the box and see the manufactured date is 2021.10... I guess I will give it a try, but age and li-ion batteries don't go well together...

Finally got around to installing it. Surprisingly the battery was above design capacity and after doing a recalibration it seems to have lost less than 1% capacity.

Book 5's ending seemed very rushed.

I mean all of the books had relatively quick culminations. A battle happened, these guys won, closing dialogue. He doesn't go in to much details.

My paperbacks are indeed shoddy as well, half of book 5 has Paul referred to as Maud'dib, then switches to Muad'Dib.  And in book 6 one page has "Honored Matre" replaced by spaces.   I get a kick of defective books, favourite example was a Warhammer 40k book that had 6 pages from a different book entirely inserted into it.

Maybe it's worth some money now. 😄

Would you say that book 6 is, in general, at the same level with book 1? If not, would you say that there's a specific spot where the quality starts to get worse? I'm curious about this because it seems to me that very few books that eventually turn into series can maintain their quality. For the record, I have only read book 1 and liked it, but not enough to continue with book 2.

I mean book 3 is just as good if not better. Book 6 tried to do a similar narrative to book 4, but as I said it did have a character to carry it. If I had to order them it would probably go something like 1 and 3 > 4 > 5 > 6 and 2.

I just sent my declaration of my intent to leave my congregation to the responsible district administration. It is a silly bureaucratic beaurocratic hurdle the churches demanded which requires certain documents to "prove" that you are indeed a part of the congretation you want to leave. The official justification is data protection, because leaving your congretation requires the disclosure of personal information to said congregation.

And we would not want to disclose any personal information to the wrong congregation, would we?

Yes, that justification is about as silly as it sounds. You cannot just leave your congretation by talking to them directly for no other reason than to introduce extra bureaucratic hoops to jump through in order to deter as many people as possible from leaving a certain Church with a proclivity for child abuse. At the end of the day, this is about money, as both major Christian Churches in Austria and Germany can (legally) collect money from their congregation members, colloquially known as church tax, it is a required tithe that goes back to laws made by the good shepard, The Führer (no, really, the church tax really goes back to laws passed by the Nazis).

With the government removing Good Friday for us Protestants as public holiday a while back and the Church now wanting a membership fee in excess of what is tax deductible, it no longer makes sense to be a part of the Protestant Church.

I thought that was only in Germany, but seeing how far back it goes I guess it makes sense.

Damn, that wouldn't fly in the US.

Yeah, it the US they at least need to show up on TV and ask for it. 😛

Was more enjoyable now than in back the 90s when I read it first, but still don't fully get the novel.

I think I missed most of the messiah connection in Leto II and his underlying suffering and sadness throughout the book in my previous readthrough. The ending hit very differently this time around.

Nayla having some weird sexual experience watching Idaho climb was pretty funny.

Yeah, I would add Duncan's outrage to homosexuality to that. That was such an odd scene in the book that kind of felt out of place to me. It had zero build up to it and zero consequences. I guess I could see it as just another indicator to him feeling out of place with the times, but no... At least with Nyala orgasm, you could connect it to the cult and dogma of the Fish Speakers, but even then that scene felt a little bit like out of nowhere.

Lagging behind you, finished GEoD today.

I'm on chapter 2 of book 4. Didn't have much time to read and the book is slow going, but I'm determined this time around to give it more of an effort, at least half the book.
