Godlike Cipher is a way to go. Only PE has it so why not play it?

I don't like paladins. For me it's just a weird cleric+fighter mix. I'd be happy if PE didn't include paladins. Priests already use heavy armor so what's the point in paladin?

The whole point of Xcom, was to lose your squad members and never reload. Each loss counted as a terrible, yet joyful experience for the player. There were no such things as predefined characters with predefined backstories. It was all based on a random generator.
I'll never understand why we've never experienced such things in the rpg genre. Perhaps developers could include a random character generator in every inn?
I mean, we could have predefined characters, but we could also have random characters appearing at the tavern to substitute our fallen party members.
Well we have the adventurers hall where you can hire a custom made NPC so there you go.

So what about gore? How much gore do you think is appropriate within the game's setting and general feel? Would you like mages tearing apart enemies with their brutal spells or fighters slice stupid goblins in half? Or do you think the game should be more reserved with gore and include only bare minimum?
Personally, I'd prefer a balanced gore with visible blood stains on the terrain under enemies corpses and blood on character models (it just feels more real as if you killed a real monster or a person and not a doll). I dont like dismemberment in modern games too much. For me, it's a cheesy way to look like "M for Mature". Fallout 3 suffered from this in my opinion.
Fallout 2 on the other hand had the best gore from the aestethic standpoint. It was striking, brutal and real.
What do you think?
PS Best gore in video-game award goes to....

its funny how many weird fantasies people want to experience in RPGs

While wizards deal with all sorts of elemental and arcane magic, ciphers would use more subtle approaches in order it dispatch their foes. I expect ciphers to use spells like mind blast, charm, paralyze, illusions, phantoms, fear, blink, soul siphon (drains health), spell breaks, madness, confusion and the like. It will gently distinguish wizards as direct matter manipulators and ciphers as soul twisting masters.

Strong poses for abilities.
No scholar robes for wizards.

Props to Mr. Avellone. Arcanum is like a wife, you hate her and you love her.

I'm happy we all agree that Forton is a joke. :D

I'm playing kingdoms of Amalur right now and I find it awesome for an action RPG, the combat feels very satisfying. Playing for the first time on hard really makes this for me

yeah, populating your stronghold with NPC craftsmen will not only give you a reason to return to that place but also prevent the stronghold from being a ghost town.
I really want to return to my home to chat with NPCs, check equipment, store some items, craft a thing or two, get a mini quest. It adds a lot of roleplaying value.

If PE has potions, Id like them to be cooldown-based utility consumables. No healing and mana potions please!

Like I said before, I believe crafting should be done exclusively by NPC craftsmen, people you encounter in the world who are professionals in their business. They can manage your needs while you are on a dungeon diving rampage.

I was wondering... Was there ever a system in game where you could go to a blacksmith and instead of buying or crafting yourself you could just ask him to craft a weapon or armor which u want ? I would love to see this in P:E. Why is that ? Because I hate crafting I dont like it at all Im a warrior I dont have time to stand in the forge and make me some steel. I would gladly pay for this to someone whos job it is to make weapons. So what do you say ? Instead of selling hundred of weapons such a blacksmith could have some but the most should be made by ordering them right ?
Diablo 3 has it.
Baldur's gate 1 and 2 had npcs who could craft awesome items for you if you found the ingredients.

Many MMOs have mages as pure dps machines.
In baldurs gate every battle past early game is determined by a magic duel between spell casters. Also, it's really hard to solo if you don't dual class into cleric or wizard.
In icewind dale the ultimate power party is 1 fighter, 2 clerics, 1 wizard for control and 2 sorcerers for huge dps.
dragon age has potent mages.
However I agree that mages should possess really impressive tricks to rain doom on their opponents.

The Adventurer's Hall lets you create your own companions if you don't want pre-made npcs like Sagani, Forton (ugh) or Edair etc

Forton will be the Least popular NPC companion if he looks like this, mark my words.

Russia is a synonym for irony.

I... dont think it's a good idea to mix western RPG and JRPG approaches to character presentation. Assuming that characters will get highly detailed portraits and PST style text descriptions I doubt anything else will be necessary.

One thing is an older badass, another thing is an elderly weaksause. Forton is the later. Har! Just look at his sorry face

Bounty posters!
Go to X, slay Y, come back, get gold and xp. Straightforward, optional and reasonable.

Well, if a spell is called Firestorm, i expect a freaking firestorm and nothing else. However, we dont need over the top effects for simple spells like bless or fire arrow. Keep it appropriate i say.

I mean, who would want to keep such a horribly looking companion?
Make him a young bald female monk if you want to create an original NPC companion but for the love of god take this old peasant away. Thank you.
p.s. Oh, and the slippers.
