  1. The addition of a house and stronghold raises a question. Can the player start a family? In games like Fallout it was possible to marry an NPC and they often became a worthless follower. In PE if you find someone to become your bride, they don't have to follow you around because there is a stronghold to manage. I like the idea of having certain NPCs be romance options, rather than just be limited to your companions. You could marry and potentially have an heir. This also opens up quest options like having a family member kidnapped, or attempted assassinations.

If done I'd prefer it not to be like Skyrim or Fable where you can just walk up to someone random with a ring (or amulet) and have them marry you. They should be a few unique NPCs to choose from with different personalities and potentially different benifits. One might be an excellent financial manager who offers a bonus to stronghold income. One might be more martially inclined and add a boost to your personal guard.

Just a few thoughts, I'd like to hear from other people with suggestions, and of course from those that think it's a horrible idea and why.

  2. Do you remember making time capsules and burying them?

You might stick a letter to your future self in them, maybe a few noteworthy items that might be representative of that time in history. If I was burying one today, I might include my old (and non-working) iPhone or an interesting newspaper article. I was recently the best man at a wedding and the couple nailed shut a box containing letters they each wrote to one another, along with a bottle of Champaign. They are supposed to open the box in 25 years, to remember why they married one another. Nice, right?

This is sort of a long way of saying this: we may be in a different place in our lives when this game releases. A lot can change in a couple of years. I thought it might be interesting to jot some notes down about where we are in our lives now. Then, whenever Project Eternity releases, we look back at this thread, quote our brief write-up, and say what has changed (or has not changed). It might make a neat exercise! As an added bonus, you may get to know a bit more about your fellow backers and PE fans.

For me, I was just married this year. I am working as a research associate for a non-profit in sunny Tampa. I am currently pursuing my master’s degree in marketing along with a general MBA. From a gaming perspective, I have been eagerly awaiting the release of the enhanced edition of Baldur’s Gate. I have been playing a lot of Skyrim, Borderlands 2, Diablo III, and Starcraft II. I have a solid Dell XPS laptop, which can run most games decently well, but I would imagine this would be long gone in 2014 (hopefully). I am a big Yankees fan and I was crushed when Derek Jeter broke his ankle in game one of the ALCS against Detroit. I knew the series would be a tough one with the way the Yankees swung the bats against Baltimore, but I had no idea how bad it would be (lowest single postseason team batting average ever bad).

I am hoping PE will be very much like the old Infinity engine games at its core, with a lot of great plot choices, dialogue options, and strong companion relationships (along with some nice combat and character building).

I am interested in seeing what 2014 and Project Eternity brings.

  3. The first season was great. I am still waiting for the second season to be released on Blu-ray. I may breakdown and get HBO for a month just to watch it.

You should just break down and read the books :D

While I agree the series is well done and interesting, it is still missing some things that the book series has.

I actually started reading the books before I watched the show. They were recommended to me by a friend. I'm almost done with book four now. It's a lot slower of a read than book 3, which was a complete whirlwind of activity in the last few hundred pages.

Just wait til you get to book 5 :)

I have been reading the Song of Ice and Fire since Game of Thrones was released back in the mid 90's and had a friend who worked at a bookstore give me a first edition hardcover copy of the book. Ever since then, I have been in perpetual waiting for the next book to come out. Waiting for A Dance with Dragons was almost too much to bear lol

I just read book 4 and 5 combined. Waiting for book five was quite an ordeal. And reading 4 and 5 combined makes it a lot easier to get back into that world.

When you say combined, do you mean that the books were back-to-back in one bound copy? Or, were the chapters actually placed in relative chronological order from both four and five? I know that book four runs concurrently with book five, and it was split by POV due to length. But, I would really like to have read it in massive tome format, getting to see more of my favorites like Jon and Dany. I use a Nook (e-reader) so the size wouldn't bother me.

  5. @The Mist Devil

I'm actually not quite like any of those things, except for maybe protective of the pack. But, I'll do my best. I can still be edgy, angsty, and lonely on these boards, if that helps.

    @headrush

I am trying to convince my wife to go with a Husky now (and name him Ghost). Sadly, we live in Florida and she thinks it would be cruel. We're looking at getting a Corgi. But, heck, I still may name him Ghost anyways. I really like the relationship between Jon and Ghost, too. Don't throw any spoilers out though, as I'm not quite done with the series. I am three quarters through book four, and there is a distinct lack of Jon and Ghost in this book which is upsetting.

  6. This has been a tremendous outpouring of support for the project. I am so impressed. Frankly, I am proud that consumers out there still appreciate this kind of content. I really didn't think it was likely to see a game in the style of the Infinity Engine classics again. And, here we are, collectively funding a true "spiritual" successor (unlike other games masquerading with that title). I can't wait to see what Obsidian does. I have liked everything I've read so far. Let's keep it going!

  7. Advertising has it's place in the game - in the opening sequence and in the rolling credits following the game's completion. I have little doubt that Obsidian will respect the in-game boundaries. I do not think they will include blatant advertisement to detract from their game world. And, if there is a company who wants to donate $1,000.00 to Project Eternity to create an NPC named, "Drinka Gatoraid" or "Ivaunta HaagenDaaz," then it will be Obsidian's call to allow or deny. Obsidian did note that all fan content will need to fit within the context of the world. Which means that this kind of silliness will be screened out. I think this is something of a non-issue.
