  1. Tolerate? yes, why not? I'm always ok with more variety and options, that said, I don't think that the devs are planning on adding any more playable races.

About the humans... I don't think that it is arrogant at all, I think that it just makes it easier to fantasize about worlds that have something that we are familiar with (ourselves), That said... I wouldn't have any problem if there weren't humans at all, but that won't be the case for PE so I don't really care too much.

  2. This thread is currently consisting of you and people telling you to **** off. Also your poll is badly worded and made in a stupid way.

It was a subject of laughter and ridicule for quite a long time, of course I wasn't a member.

if this thread isn't about arguing, then what? dreaming that your sexual fantasies will be satisfied in the game? why do you need this kind of useless **** in PE? Can't you just watch a porn flick or something?

Yet the votes (at the moment) seem to indicate an acceptance of the subject. Perhaps people don't openly comment on it because of the insults and shaming that will be directed at them?

  3. D&D has no ownership rights to German mythology. PE can use the name kobold to their heart's content.

I had absolutely no idea o_O *google search* aaaahh cool, I'll get into this in detail...

I have to say in my defense that I was referring to the kobolds used in D&D, if the physical description and lore is too similar lawyers can do jugglery with the copyright laws to put a lawsuit, copyright wars were declared for much less... some are really bloody and can last for months or even years...

  4. I agree with the idea for realistic violence but acknowledge that there are people in the game who can do the unrealistic, people will be able to channel the power of their souls to do wondrous and terrifying things.

Who knows maybe a fighter channelling that power through a blade can create enough force to cause a body to explode.

I agree, in that context it would be ok but, unless magic is involved I don't think that a blade should make bodies explode.

  5. They should make the first or second city female dominated 8)

Could have a city, tribe, village or w/e with that concept, I like that, that would be peculiar in my opinion and something new to face in a rpg(And no snoo snoo by death jokes you bloody bastards).

    I approve this idea

And no snoo snoo by death jokes you bloody bastards

And why not? patriarchal societies are always (like 100% of the time) portrayed as evil and oppressive, Why would have to be a matriarchy different?

unless you want to imply men=bad woman=good

I'm not sure you are the most qualified person to make that distinction...

2 things, 1- I'm sure that links to pornography are against the forum rules and 2, what is your point exactly? I make 3D porn and therefore I'm not qualified to make arguments? o_O

    Anyway, delete the link ASAP

  6. But nobody seems to be complaining about a geriartric lacking any sort of body armor and apparently only fighting with his fists being "unrealistic" at all?

    PE-Forton-700x956.jpg

Were all the complaints about "realism" even only a ruse to push through feminist agenda yet again, mayhaps and why should that now be relevant to game design?

And you can bet that he will beat the crap out of a soldier with full plate armor

    lol *realism*

  8. There's nothing wrong with wanting the option to build yourself a party full of physically attractive characters. However I think the majority of the posters want it as an OPTION and not to have gorgeous Muscles-mchotty or Boobarellas in chainmail bikinis as our only choices. Sexism is fine if it's your option and it isn't affecting anyone else. If you're imposing it by making it your only option such as "**** or GTFO" then it's wrong. The trend here seems towards realistic fantasy, which is fine by me.

5 characters revealed so far and the one that shows more skin is... Forton!

But seriously, do you think that there is even the tiniest possibility that obsidian will make something like a chainmail bikini? after they changed the infamous "boobplate"? It seems to me that it is extremely, extremely unlikely.

  9. To be honest I'm okay with variety of body in the game, but I still want the beautiful chick with the hour glass figure as well in inappriotate armour as well, or at least the option to make her as one of my mercanaries.

In STO my crew is always hot busty girls. I'm not sorry, its what I'm attracted to, its not like,I get a choice. IRL I don't expect physical perfection, but this is fantasy and I plan on building my perfect Harem...er...I mean party.

I know clearly this makes me an evil masgonist in some peoples eyes, but I like what I like.

Sir, I salute you and praise your honesty , not many people here would dare to freely express a preference such as yours, personally I don't think that it is misogynistic to prefer one type of female body, and I don't think that you should apologize for that.

  10. It has already been said: With the engine used in PE I do not think the On-screen physical depiction of women will be much of an issue. And from the artwork so far, if they go that route for the portraits also, I think Chainmail-bikinis won't be seen. And for everyone not liking this I am sure portriats will be customizeable and moddable enough so Louis Royo will find his way to PE too...

I am far more interested in how PE will depict women in general in this world...not their looks, but how they are treated/viewed like. Will female warriors something totally normal, like in most if not all RPGs? Or something very special and outandish...?

I prefer to play female main chars, and I would actually like if the enviroment would look differently at genders.."A female warrior? What will they come up with next"...while "A female mage? Nothing special, the only independent profession for a female despite...*cough*...."seamstress"...?

Even Dragon Age sometimes at least came close to these old gender-roles, though often contradicting itself when characters sometimes were suprised the wardens accepted women among them, but then there were plenty of female soldiers in the Battle of Ostagar to see (a minor example)

I would like my female warrior to be confronted with some of these stereotypes, and nullifying them with cold steel and iron will...

I remember a comment from a random female NPC in Skyrim (paraphrasing): "It's so hard being a woman in Skyrim" and I was like "lolwut" pretty much everything, for gender roles to hierarchy are almost completely identical and distributed by 50% o_O I think that PE will go the same route 50%-50% and still portray women as if they were on some epic struggle against "teh evil patriarchy". That said, I don't really care that much. I've long stopped giving f*cks about stuff like this

  11. Honestly, anything is possible over here. Fallout 3 did very well over here for an American game. Of course, I guess that had to do with Marketing.

Honestly, change the ingame artwork to an anime style during a localization, and it may do ok over here.

    "Yo-ge, kuso-ge"

I highly doubt they would even attempt such a radical change just for the Japanese market, which is know for being very hostile to anything non-Japanese.

Anyway, I added my vote to Italian. I was quite surprised that it was not included along with the French, German and Spanish languages on the stretch goal.

  12. I am just playing through Neverwinter nights 2 right now I am really having a hard time with the Spanish translation (it is laughably bad in terms of the voice acting quality) in contrast to say something like Skyrim, which has a pretty decent localization.

It varies a lot from one game to another depending on the dubbing company, I agree that NW2 dubbing was quite bad, an example of good dubbing (IMO) is the Baldur's Gate saga, it was really well interpreted by good professionals.

My main question though, is why for Spanish localization does Spanish from Spain always seem to be used? (I noticed the KS translation was Spain Spanish as well).

The vast majority of Spanish speakers come from the Americas, and although the Spanish is very diverse over here, it certainly has unifying qualities that set it apart from Spanish from Spain. Generally for TV shows or movies, you get a Latin America and European Spanish version.

I am not suggesting that both is done for PE, but is the Latin American market not a much bigger one to hit? (Think of Spains economy these days as well).

Spanish from the Americas would not sell well on Spain (except for "soap operas" that ladies 50+ seem to love) And vice versa, Spanish dubbing from Spain would not sell well on America. I think that it is a mere matter of revenue, it is simply not as profitable. The causes may vary but I guess that piracy level could be the main issue why publishers are reticent to try central/south American markets. In any case Obsidian has the data from kickstarter/paypal, they should have it easy to see where most of the funding comes from.

  13. By the way, maybe this could actually be used to mark different ethnicities within the setting? E.g. have Aedyr characters use Spain Spanish and Vailian characters use Latin American Spanish?

That's an interesting concept, I remember that most Antivans (like Zevran) on "Dragon Age" speak with a strong Spanish accent, and even use some Spanish words.

  14. As far as I know it's only translated and not dubbed, text doesn't have any accent, the only difference is that you won't read common central/south American expressions like "che" "chingo", "weon", "pinche", etc

Also, one of the reasons why a lot of games are dubbed into Spanish "from Spain" is because of sales, the video-game industry sells more in Spain than in Italy for example and almost as much as in Germany, despite having less population. Very few companies would risk the investment of dubbing into any central/south American Spanish variant.

In the end it's all about the money.

If it's about the money, then these videogame would take the risk of dubbing in Mexico and South American market. The Mexico videogame market has been making billions of dollars every year from what I know as a video game developer, and it's still growing. Even Brazil (a country that speaks Portuguese) has one of the fastest growing videogame markets in the world, especially in Online gaming (League of Legends had to create a Brazil server because there were so many Brazilians on the North American server).

I don't know, it doesn't seem plausible that, if they would make more money in that market, they would willingly ignore it.

There should be another reason then? Any theories on why most game developers/publishers give priority to the Spanish market in detriment of the Latin American?
