The mario games are, for the most part, fun platformers. If you give a crap about platformers.
Personally, I consider Yoshi's Island to be one of the greatest games ever made and given that has nothing to do with nostalga and everything to do with the fact that it's fun (and I still play the GBA version).

And besides, the kind of role-playing that actually goes on in games like WoW is not even tied into the game itself since it's more freeform role-playing (ie, acting) rather than, say, a good ole session with a DM and a group (ie, role-playing with rules). Which makes even less sense.
Are you saying that Rhomal is a LARPer? Because that would be pretty nerdy.
-
MMOs are great for roleplaying because of contextual emotes.
/dance /dance /dance
See, i'm roleplaying a dancer...and a chick...and i'm asking for free loot from horny teenagers.
Wait, you're right, MMO roleplaying CAN be awsome.
LARPing is for nerds, MMO roleplaying is the future!

The role of people who grind mobs for loo...wait, wrong game.

Does it have directX 10 support?

I'm turning you all into Torys

Joridan gives you all the finger. He's a true knight of the order.

I roleplay in Halo! It happens and can be of high quality!

Man, that's even more manly than playing as an OAP. Go manliness!

rofl @ roleplay in an MMO

Not like MGS4 though, those are totally manly cutscenes.

You mean, the two games that actually (finally) have me sold on a PS3? Yeah, yeah.

Nice work misleading people Llyranor.

Actually, you don't own it. That's the point.

Calling HL2 a revoltion depends quite a lot on how revoultionary you find the engine/physics/implimentation of said physics to be.
I'm not calling it one way or the other, but the physics (in particular, the grav-gun) was the real gameplay innovation here, if you wish to call it that (extending the definition of HL2 slightly, this goes for Portal too, even if Prey had some similar mechanics).
I enjoyed the game as a shooter, and I loved seeing physics being used as a gameplay mechanic on a scale that hadn't really been done before but no doubt captain bitter here will disagree on the basis that valve sucks.
-
Exactly, gameplay be damned, I REFUSE to enjoy a game unless the main character makes up for my own physical shortcomings. Because I'm manly, yeah! And not at all insecure.
-
Stop trying to pretend that you wear clothes.
-
I too cannot enjoy gameplay without projecting myself into the head of the macho meatball who i'm playing. Anything less is unacceptable.

Is that what you think he said?

And their business model failed anyway, hence why GW2 is going to be pay-to-play.
But Sand, like a lot of anti-MMOers is bitter more in theory than practice anyway, since 'I don't want to pay!' is a more convenient excuse than 'the games arn't actually that great' which, for the most part is completely true. After all, ANY gamer would be able to compile a wishlist of features for their dream game and continue by excusing nominal monthly costs, objection to which is more on a moral basis than a finantial one. After all, even a minimum wage warehouse packer can pay off an entire month in about an hour, and a doctor working overtime can pay off about a year in two hours, so anyone who claims that the money is REALLY an issue is only saying so because the games themselves arn't WORTH that money, which is completely legitimate, but a slightly different issue.
However, anyone who claims that even the best game they could think of wouldn't be worth (a justified) $5 a month then they've probably got higher recreational priorities than games in the first place (such as arguing on the internet or taking their clothes off).
