  1.   Sir you have some crazy great ideas! As much as I like this to be implemented somehow or at least hinted at, I don't think it will make it (we can't safely say how much complex P:E will be)unless P:E will be more text-heavy on these subjects, it would certainly be cool to read what crazy punishment could mr. Avellone come up with (btw that monkey thing is fabulous). On a side note if the criminals could get punished like this in fantasy settings with this kind of magic, then crime might as well be wiped out, when enough culprits would return with severe incontinence for life or as babbling lambs...

and once in time as a Joker

  2.   As great as this idea sounds, I can't see how this could be possibly implemented, even if the punishment was for example temporarily crippled limb for fighters or muteness for casters, probably only the most hardcore players, would try to that once, reload is is just so easy. I remember in Gothic, that when you got caught, you got humilitated by getting your hide beaten and while you was lying KOed, opponent freely robbed you for all they wanted and let you get up, walk away and lick your wounds. That was one way to punish player for crime that I really liked.

  3. My, my this is a tough one. But if I am to choose based off of my own personal tastes and preferences instead of umm... emotional attachment?(Planescape Torment! Planescape Torment!!) Then I would point out these, since I love characters who are, well more humane level, and not traditional experienced adventurers.

    1) Mortimer "Morte" Rictusgrin: Who after very first meeting and introduction of this special litle fella, would have thought, that this floating skull with pair of eyeballs and razor-sharp sarcasm, perverted spot for females be they alive or undead and who's sole weapon is his mouth in more way then one, turns out to be not only irreplacable party member but also such a deep and astonishing character. I will never forget all those moments concerning Morte that I totally didn't see coming, just the mere thought that he hangs up with TNO for so long and always playing on him the same act over and over again, yet doesn't seem to let this undoubtetly disturbing sight and experiences get the best of him. Morte's character is for me personally a writing gold, whatever was touched on him it turned out flawlessly perfect, and Mortimer stands for a single most memorable companion and best budd (if a bit untrustworthy) for all good reasons.

    2) Virgil Brummond: Seriously this is what I call truly humane character, the first moment he introduces himself, you can't take this guy seriously at first, but as a layers of his persona starts to peel, well that is a different cup of tea. Virgil is not some world weary traveler/adventurer he is basically just the same green guy like you who gets thrown head first in the whirl of events going much deeper beyond religious prophecies and after spitting him out it leaves him him with very much changed point of view on great many things. He is not exceptional fighter or mage or anything but he has diverse talents and is quick on his wits and will try to do his best to protect and guide Living One, in there he proves he isn't just blind man of faith but also nice and protective friend who despite being but a rather common man will take responsibility when neede. Virgil also has a trait of appearing as not believing in himself entirely, but once he does he doesn't hesitate to leave Living One to his own devices and goes on following his own agenda, resulting in one of the most memorable events in Arcanum's story. He doesn't look the part, but Virgil bears a sins of past that haunts him and truly, Virgil is no naive preacher as he first appeared to be. Polite but seclusive of sorts, he has his moments when he burst in anger, desperation or drop some sarcasms, when temper takes him (or gets really annoyed). Player also has a choice about how Virgil's nature eventually turns out, which is rare thing to behold if you ask me.

    3) Annah-of-the-Shadows: The one single best written female RPG character I have seen to this day, imho, just the way she jumps from her usual seclusive demeanour to that one she shows when her fiendish blood takes over resulting n numerous memorable moments is great deal of flavour, besides she is strong, independent girl, who has many admirable qualities besides her thieving skills, but under her hard and edgy facade, she cannot hide that she's after all a girl who desire a true, not false, respect and honesty and of course love.

    4) Garfield Thelonius Remington the Third a.k.a Gar a.k.a The world's smartest "orc": Just his name alone has such a ring to it it's enough to fall for this guy, he is sooo adorable. If one tries to imagine what he must've been through his whole life, but even so he isn't bitter and snarky, instead Gar is very humble, cultured and nice, even tho he looks like orc, he has human opinions on them, which added more flavour to his character... and he loves Earl Grey

And for the last one, well everybody knows that right party needs one real maniac  (OK maybe it's just me) so :
    5) Ignus / Gorgoth: Hard to pick one of this duo, sorry, I just like both of them equally, but in a long run probably Gorgoth because he is seemingly more controllable from the two. I admit, I love chaotic, crazy, mindlessly, unstoppable living force, who are not exactly evil, just so fueled by and caring only for their single one unsatiable passion, that nothing can't stand in their way: And on top of that have enough power to not be swayed from their goal.

    ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
On completely unrelated note.. sort of:
The ones who didn't make the final cut but deserves a honorable mention, or at least deserve to serve as main party's backup  are following:

Minsc(and Boo): he is one jolly buddy, who deserves a honorable spot, because he is a bloody PINNACLE of Large Ham. I also have a soft spot for characters who are stereotypical large, strong, gentle simpletons, besides that his unique approach to a Ranger profession is a addind so much juice for his character and is a sight to behold.
Getting, tired so let's throw in rest of the names and get some sleep. Rest who I considered and deserves mention: Any Dog companion, Jan, Fall From Grace, Magnus, Lenny, Marcus, Sulik ... and that's ...that' 'bout it, Im still sure I left out some tho.

Sorry for long post I got carried away a big time

  4.   Ah yes Wheel of Time, with recent re-release of original trilogy in my country, I can finally start reading it, would you believe that since I got first book of Shadow Rising to my birthday(and after reading through it ), I started to buy rest of the series, book by book, so once I obtain original trilogy I can start reading from the very beginning? Untill now I didn't peek in any of them to avoid spoiling the plot, Im just this sort crazy fella I am  .

On a slightly different note, those of you who know Thorgal series, how did you like it? Aside Jules Verne books, this was one of my childhood favorite reading so I hold Thorgal in great favour.

  5.   I cant pick one from poll because all of these are valid and great and choosing only one instead multiple, is too limiting for me.

Arcanum for me was the one game I always wanted to see created, mix of classless anything-you-can-be character creation, fantastic art and style (being fan of steampunk myself that was real blessing), astonishing soundtrack, open world which let you pursue your own goals without forcing you to progress through story, world that was deeply thought-through and was actually very believable and had own logic, huge array of ways how to complete goals or deal with enemies (this is the one game that gave so much pleasure playing a stealth char. silently destroying light source sneaking upon enemies puting explosives in their pockets... you could really prepare creative and cruel things to your enemies), also had some sweet allegory on real world religion, aswell as some really good philosophical depth, world that reacted approprietely to your character based on your gender, race, looks or even appereance (being clad in barbarian outfit vs nice suit, or reacting with you having your summoned demon by side and many others), story which was catching and had numerous twists, not to mentioned best Final Boss, who wasn't surpassed to this day, for me at least, the world itself was slowly turning from nice peaceful on the outside to the one with dark secrets of past and disturbing inside at the present, revealing itself in satisfaying pace and could have been influenced by player actions, leading to deifferent endings.

OK lets stop there, I can go endlessly on counless great things that made Arcanum number 1 game for me, I have only these complaints: Companions, there was little to no focus on them, they was hard to herd and control, but I could forgive that if they was more colourful an had more depth which they sadyl haven't, (for example Gar needed more love, he is memorable) follower's only contribution in the end was just their comments on various towns and cities. Next complaint is on low level cap, it was too fast reached before actual end of game, to combat I have practically same complaints like the rest of you .

Sorry for long post I got carried away

  6. Well, the Creative Commons community is very big, vibrant, and growing, and people in it do exactly that. I put everything I make (privately; my day job is different unfortunately) into CC, and some of it has wound up remixed and reused in some pretty surprising ways, some of the commercial, most not. A photo from this series ended up as a CD cover for a piece of classical music, for example -- I thought that was kinda cool:

But then here it would go both ways. It would need a couple of studios to get together to start with, but the synergies would be apparent pretty quickly. It's the same model as with open-source software. And yeah, losing some of that unique feel would be a trade-off. I've no doubt that games made in that kind of community would develop a common "feel," even if each studio puts its distinctive spin on it. Whether that would be a bad thing is a matter of opinion of course.

Interesting, this has strong resemblance to part of village where my grandparents live. Very nice.

  7.   I go for death animations all the way, Aside FOs, Immortal, some bland ones in Arcanum and rather stylish and gory in Revenant, there wasn't any other old isometric RPG with them as far as my memory goes. Attack animations for me are just that - attacks you will see them all countless of times anyway by the time you finish game and it's not much of difference for me if there will be only one or four types of swings, I didn't mind it in old games I'm not gonna mind it even now. Death animations was rare and satisfaying and was for me sort of reward for a good fight, so Im gonna personally trade weaopn swings for stylish fatalities anytime.

  8.   Actually I remember reading a part of Covenant book when I was younger (well actually around 12 or 13 like you was)I don't remember much except stumbling on part where he forced himself on some girl and that turned me away.

Some snipet I read somewhere stated that Covenant's author is cruel toward his characters, so if that was only the beginning I can't imagine what other stuff there must be. But actually you incinerated interest in me, maybe I'll give it a try some day.

  9. Finishing David Farland's Runelords saga, Earth King serie was exciting from beginning to end, first two books from Scions of the Earth didn't impresssed me too much at first but now I'm looking forward for final book. Anyway really great series, I'm enjoying it a lot.

  10. Giants Citizen Kabuto

Wasn't there some controversy when it got released? Something about only a censored version being available in the US (sort of a "reverse" fallout 2 stunt, where Europeans got the gimped version)

Oh yes the character of Delphi (sort of rusalka or water nymph with great martial prowess) was originally supposed to be bare chested but US censors can't stand women breasts, so it got censored out and she was given extra piece of cloth, only for modders to make patch that restores her original look.

  11. I don't know, don't take this offensively please but if someone wishes to create fully sneak party just so he can avoid combat for no other reason but to neglect combat just to progress through game faster, not for challenge but to avoid any combat that stands in way of completing quests, then it is dunno, laziness? If that option is there available fine it's your choice to trade fun in favor of speed, but since PE is class focused then having any character be able to sneak, thanks to overdose of some spells and charms throwing out meaning of thief class entirely. And honestly would you really want to rush your way through PE?

Where then would be good old fashioned fun of sending thief scout to look out for enemies, prepare traps, steal enemy's weapon so he is left bare handed. XPless or not it still is spice of the game and great portion of fun.

I apologize if I misunderstood and missed the point of your suggestion and concern, PrimeJunta

  12. It would seem to me personally useless to tag along on adventure with some extra pack mule without much personality or at least story/character impact, but to individually hire the likes of crafters, cooks smiths and other servants for your own keep to maintain would not be bad idea, since you would have some choice in choosing your staff instead of having automaticaly assigned group of random employees.

  13. Right now replaying old hits which was catching dust for some time  Armed and Dangerous and Giants Citizen Kabuto, humor in this game will never get old, it's one of kind and I would go as far to dare call their developers Monty Pythons of video games (don't hit me). Also planning to replay Omikron Nomad Soul right afterward along with Dark Earth.

  14. I don't get what the issue is. No one complains about Final Fantasy sequels. Every game has an entirely new setting with new game mechanics, characters, etc. but they had to make one an MMO before people complained that they weren't real sequels.

If Numenera: Torment comes out and has:

    • deep, intense, personal story
    • memorable characters
    • characters growth is based more on my dialogue choices and the interactions I have with others rather than how many beasts I can slay
    • unconventional setting and cultures
    • Anything like the stuff with the unbroken circle with Dak'kon (scads of dialogue discussing things important to a character where my character's arguments and points can make a difference in their beliefs and outlook)

I will be satisfied that it is a Torment sequel.

Big agree, I dare to add to your list few of main suggestions:

    - memorable and original main protagist

    - exciting story of tormented souls and their journey to final resolution

    - no matter how bitte, reasonable and satisfaying ending

    - 800,000 (at very least) words of quality texts

    - philosophical depth

    - of a personal wish, Mark Morgan to create atmospherical outworldish music in his good old style,

And maybe new symbols, tattoos scars and Arc Words, or anything just as much distinctive

    Now

New story about another wrecking torment of different character in brand new bizzare world, thats enough for me. Only thing which bothers me a bit is my personal dislike of sci/fantasy mixture, I hope it will not be of FFs technofantasy stock or SW fairy taley style, and more in Wizardry vein, which was the only setting that combined the two just alright. Personal tastes aside, if the final game will be of at least similar quality, being a game which makes you think long after finishing its story and have those who played it chat on forum about all kind of story/ character details and bits and hidden meanings , secrets and thoughts, then it will truly be P:T spiritual successor.

Of course the Planescape Torment is the original and holds its cult status for plenty good reasons, and indeed set the standard cosmicly high but as I see it there is more stories of Torment to be told but does not necccessary need to be set in Planescape setting exclusively. And after seeing how much has changed in its setting ever since would take away great deal of spirit (I mean ending the Blood War? Really? are these guys serious? On the other hand if The Nameless One survived to the days of Bl. War's end it may technically free him of his punishment in there, just a thought)

  15. Thogh I already post a suggestion aswell, I just must point out one more character (not sure if he wasn't mentioned already) and that is Ashur from Spartacus series. Probably the single most entertaining character I could relate the most (before he took over too much level in evil). To put it shortly not only was he brilliantly casted and even better acted, he went through several appereance changes (rare thing if you ask me),but most of all he was helluva proven survivalist who not matter in which position he was at he always found his way up and benefits from doing so, all thanks to his wits, on top of that he knew how to exact revenge on those wronged him and boy he did it in tremendous style, while in the same time he still hold on his one single dream he desired the most, which added even more flavour to his character. For me Ashur was the most interesting antagonist I have seen of late.

  16. No I do NOT like the PE Paladin concept. Specifically, I most dislike the fact that they are supposed to be team players and weak against singular powerful foes.

If anything, Paladins should be the opposite, i.e. they call out and challenge the most powerful of the enemy in a single combat to death. It is the Fighter that should deal with the weaker, trash mobs while the Paladin takes on the leader.

That is certainly a fair point Andhaira and I agree, but from what I understand from the way Obsidian plans for classes to be, i.e. not bound to one particular stereotype and allowing freedom in their playstyle, I think there will be way to build just that exact Paladin you are describing, after all PE is supposed to be beaten with single character just aswell as with full party. So don't put your hopes down yet :)

As for me, so far I like PE Paladin concept, especially since PE world isn't all high and goody setting, the palladins will not be stereotypical shinig do-gooders nor necessary religious fanatics, unmovable Determinator seems to me more accurate.

On a side note, those of you who know Alexander Anderson, how did you like this Paladin?

  17. I question the heterosexuality of any man who willingly puts testicles in his mouth.

Believe me, I sincerely wish those bull orbs was the last ones I must have ever eat :getlost: (it was matter of courtesy toward a host) it tasted alright, but man, I could feel my own eggs shrieking in pain :biggrin:The host on the other hand was totally enjoing his "meal" and was 100% straight for sure.

  18. Blood sausage, right Ywerion? That's actually pretty tasty, I used to love that as a child.

Oh no I mean only blood itself just fried. Also swollen hulled grain mixed with pork blood (then you bake/roast it) is traditional pork dish here.

Blood sausages are great we used to make them occasionally at my family.
