  1.

In my understanding that 500k sales figures includes every copy that they have sold including copies they gave as rewards for Kickstarter and paypal backers. Which would mean that it includes Steam, GOG and Origin copies of the game.

The Paradox statement does imply it's Steam only, but doesn't state it outright:

"..over half a million players have purchased the game worldwide, making it one of the best-selling games on Steam this year."

Though it certainly also says it includes kickstarter backers. Though given it is Paradox I wouldn't put it past them to have forgotten that alternatives to steam exist.

They didnt see money from sales of New Vegas (Bethesda did) while PoE money goes straight to them so this is definitely a huge success for them.

The money from PoE almost certainly goes to Paradox first, as they are the publisher. That would exclude KS and backer site sales but would include everything GOG/ Steam/ Origin and non backer site pre orders.

Well..I'm not a indsider, but I would say Paradox & Obsidian are in partnership rather than the New Vegas contract model with a straight payment plus possible bouns.

If the above is true, then Obsidian should get much more $$ from Pillars and continue to recieve $$ as sale number goes up.

I'm glad Pillars got over 500k sales, but I thought the number would be higher..

  2. The racial ability for Fire Godlike is still stackable, I guess they only fix the item not the racial ability.

Well, just don't save and load if you are still low in health for Fire Godlike..unless you want to cheat :p

    Steps to reproduce:

    1. Get Fire Godlike to low health at which point the endurance is always under 50% out of battle

--> The Battle-Forged DR is still activated out of battle

    2. Save the game and quit to menu.

    3. Load the save

    4. Rest.

    --> Battle-Forged DR +4 is not deactivated.

    5. Repeat above steps

--> DR can be stacked again and again.

  3. Very awesome. I for one don't think of Bioware as the evil empire. I don't care much for EA but think Bioware is still full of people who love games and love to make games.  Things change, you just have to get used to it.  I wish they were still a private company like they used to be but they're not.  They've made some pretty big mistakes lately but still have enough clout to fend off the evil leeches at EA, or at least partially anyway.  DA: Origins was great, DAII was okay, DA: Inquisition a step in the right direction.  Regardless I think it's very classy of them.  They have a big connection to Obsidian and I'm sure they wish them all the best.

I have to say DAI is actully a huge step in the wrong direction..Why?

First...this video explains a lot about their decision making

    https://www.youtube.com/embed/O0Dp7HeW9vs

Second, the decision from the engine, to gameplay including weird tatical view control, to the writing, to the horse ride that stops you from bantering, to the old silly MMO style questing, to the 8 limited skill slots, to 30fps limit choppy cutscene, to the elven noddle arms, to the lazy inventory,...none of these went to the "right" direction. Well, the characters design is the only thing that is still good enough...

DAO was great and epic, DA2 was good enough. The  problems with DA2 were the reused of the map and the story feels rushed after Act 1.

    DAI...well..

But at least they still have good taste on cRPGs and know how to appreciate it!

But!! I still mad at them losing BG source arts...so it made BGEE harder to work on :banghead:

  4. I got two battle-forged +4DR on me with full health. Total of +8 free DR.

I think it was added when I load a save and rest my character who was already in very low health (under 50% endurance)

The DR bouns does not wear off.

Since there is no time limit nor it does not act like Transcendent Suffering ability which turns off after battle, the DR bouns can be stacked again and again.

  5. The most annoying thing i hate in IE games' UI is spell selection...too many spells, too less slots, too many clicks
The best spell selection so far, I think nwn 2 does a good job..(not perfect) ,offer a small level-ordered spell box

Don't get me wrong..I hate the hotbar like DA2 (and DAO isn't perfect either)

DA2 just ruins the atmosphere, not because the minimal look, but the lack of aesthetic visual.

I like how witcher 1's UI look, simple yet artistic (but only that's for single character play-through only)

What I want to say is.. Does it necessary have to have a "box-shape" UI to feel like a old-school/IE/IWD2 feel UI?

I think there are still room for improvement..

  6. One thing PE is different from PS:T is that no companion is needed for main plot..

so it's more like "addons" to the whole story.

Since some people don't want any companion at all, I think is a good number.

And I agree with others, quality over quantity!! The most important thing is how well their stories are written.

Just like NWN2 MotB companions are better than NWN2 companions, even though MotB has less companions to choose from

  7. The fact that even mages are wearing armour in this game makes the lack of armour for the monk even more out of place. Side note: martial arts refers to all forms of combat, firing an AK47 is a martial art. Also, medieval Europe had many forms of martial arts, especially the knights who were brought up trained for warfare and trained in many forms of unarmed combat that rivalled anything from the East, it was just unfortunate that most of it has been lost instead of preserved.

I personally would have liked to have seen a 'martial artist' built around the style of the rest of the world: an armoured monk, one who may still fight with fists but wears armour for the same reason as the mage: counteract the use of firearms. In fact, the stated reason that mages have to wear armour due to firearms getting through their mystical defenses raises the question of why that is if the monks are able to counteract it.

A gladiatorial martial artist would have been rather intersting, or a monk habit wearing badass. I'm not a fan of Fortan's appearance and see it as a wasted opportunity to do something new with the class like they have done with many of the others.

an unarmored/light-armored monk can using soul to enhance body reflects with predicting (from training) and dodging (with enhaneced reflex)

there are many explanation really, that's for obsidian to decide..

and we can see that guns in PE haven't excess the capacity of bows, that's why they still have bows in the game..

longer reload time, less accurate, jammed...etc

so if people want to see how "chi" works in real life...well here is the video....best ever

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-yP0_Ie0WAo

and for people who really want to go "Logical" and "realistic" in combat

why would you think a heavy armor wizard can withstand a bullet hit and keep fighting in the game?

if you want to say how people are stupidly crazy about unarmored monk can be made in the game, I can say the same to heavy armored warriors.

if heavy armor is that good, there won't be a ballistic vest for bulletproofing in real life...we will still wear plate armor in the battlefield (hmm..guess I went to modern)

heavy armored knight usually has less field perspective with their helmet,

no agility compares to light armored archers, need "great strength" to wear,

arrow shot from a skilled archer can still penetrate through armor (except the very good quality ones),

and a musket can pierce plate armor easily even in normal life

so what is the point of wearing a plate armor against rangers?

and Why didn't warrior wear plate armor all the time in real life but they do in the game?

There can be so many questions to a fiction heavy armored fighter in the game...

Why the majority don't ask it?

Because it seems "logical" and "plausible" for a fighter to wear plate armor with a sword and be invincible,

    but is it really?

This game is a fantasy world with some medieval backgrounds and few other things added in the world..

fictional magic, soul theory, religions and races...etc

The game is a imaginary world with infinity possibility at the hand of the creative team..

How they approach/focus on the lore, fighting system doesn't have to be the same as our physical world

having the choice between an unarmed class and armed class can bring more diversity to the game..

with good lore and background story, anything can be explained...

but then it depends on how the majority of readers react to such lore...

anyway to me, I enjoy playing as normal fighter or unarmed monk. Paladin is another different aspect of melee class in most of the game (well...especially on DnD)

For me, fighting ability isn't the most important thing I looked at a class, it's how the class fit in...

monk can really fit into PE because the setting of the soul,

you can really play this setting around,

for example in combat techniques, people can use soul for direct damage, weapon enhancement, pure body enhancement, chant enhancement or even manipulating others like jedi

    Why limit its use? :geek:

  8. How about monks ala Name of the Rose? I can see a bunch of scholars whose job it was to investigate supernatural events, learn if and why the deities were angry, and also to investigate infraction within the clergy. Sort of monastic detectives instead of Inquisitors.

never played that game, but I like the idea of the monk being sort of a xfiles detective person who uses his knowledge of the entities and a sort of mystical ghostbuster maybe.

    It's a novel..and a movie..with Sean Connery...

  9. Since they're building the world from the ground up, I hope that they can give the Monk its own flavor within the context of the world, not just drop a shaolin fighter into the middle of the game.

I don't get this 'Shaolin' thing people keep bringing up.

If by Shaolin you mean, "He doesn't wear plate armor" which, yeah, he doesn't. He looks like he wears a combination of Cloth and Leather at the most. Which is quite apt for what the Class seems to be trying for.

If by Shaolin you, "He doesn't use weapons, he uses his fist," then, yeah. He uses his fists. We have an example of the Monk in this setting, and a lore example of how magic can be used. This Monk in the art obviously enhances himself magically to have superhuman attributes.

Though I'd note actual Shaolin Monks train with swords and other weapons as well (you can see some interesting video documentaries of it). I'd also just plain note that the Monk in P:E's art looks nothing like a Shaolin Monk. This is a picture of a Shaolin Monk:

    241p10l.jpg

The picture of the adventurers, including the Monk, for P:E, looks nothing like the above.

Martial arts don't mean necessarily unarmed combat. For example samurai were experts of kendo, which is style of sword fighting and kyudo, which is style of archery.

    http://en.wikipedia....ki/Martial_arts

Well the Art we've been shown doesn't show them using Swords or Bows, and instead shows the Monk with fists sheathed in magical energy. Kind of speaks for itself what martial arts means in the context of 'this' Monk.

the monk in PE art has a sword/dagger tied on his belt if you look closely

  10. Martial Art is completely ineffective against armoured and armed opponents, so yes, I am completely against introducing such a illogical immersion breaking class to any game.

actually, some of the "old" martial arts are focus (or partially focus) on against armoured person when you lost or without your weapon in close range.

how to disarm and strike joints or weakness.

The martial arts we often see in movie are often for entertaining purpose..or having rules and limitations in sport events.

martial art isn't about fist and kick, they do include some weapon trainings as weapon is an extension of our body.

Nowaday we wear less metal on battlefield, so we developed something more useful like CQC for close combat.

Because of the eastern culture, martial arts are often associated with spirtuality.

This is the way to distiguish well educated martial artists and those "bandits or barbarians" in eastern culture.

From the devotion of spritual trainning comes with famous shaolin monks, then linked to western monks for their devotion to god.

Finally It created a "lawful" class monk in games like DnD.

To distinguish from fighters, comes unarmed combat.

But even DnD did not restrict monk class to use barehand, there are monk weapons...

It's really just a stereotype within a stereotype..

But really, why do we complain about a person who can channel his soul/inner power to enhance his body to destory/damage partially a well armour guy when a wizard in the same world can throw fireball from afar and kill several well armed soldiers?
