  1. Its interesting how PoE is a BRAND right now. As a brand I am sure we will see a lot more games and "merchandise" and things with the PoE Brand in the future. Maybe I will pledge this card game if there will a language localization. (And I am sure there will be one). Good luck to the project.

Agreed.  I really want them to build a P&P game that can rival the big boys, along with a few books.  This franchise has a lot of potential.

  2. Like pretty much all design choices in POE, this too was a stupid one. Incompetent designers. It's as if they love themselves and their "system" more than they have any idea of what the player experience is

I know you like to troll everybody about this game, but it actually makes sense for you to search and find hidden items in "Scouting Mode."  In fact, a scouting mode for searching things something you see a lot in old school RPGs.

  3. Priests aren't Clerics from BG1 or BG2 also. Plus in the IE games most times a fighter would be dual classed to a Cleric. And a cleric self buffs might them stronger then a fighter. Healing spells were probably higher level in BG2 as compared to PoE heals.

Eh, Clerics are certainly not bad melee combatants either.  They can reach the base accuracy as higher fighters, rangers, and rogue with their specialization talents.  Priests of Skaen can also get minor sneak attacks when using their specialized weapons.

  4.

Considering how grand mastery was weakened in BG2, I don't see how they're that much inferior to fighters.  They still function well as fighters like every other fighter class in that game.  Plus they have access to one of the most overpowered kits in game.

Two words - multiclass inability. Seriously all the good Paladin stuff in bg2 comes from Keldorn who was simply a well written character. And well, not that bad compared to other premades, and i see this problem has made it to PoE as well.

Honestly, multiclassing was overpowered, and I consider them classes of their own.  They pretty much triumph over any single class builds.  Doesn't[ mean a single class build "sucked" though.

  5. Paladins in BG2 sucked, inferior fighters with useless low-level cleric spells. I see not much has changed. Although they couldnt tank back then and now they can, so its clearly a buff and they do have a role now at least. Tanks are important.

  6. Wasteland 2 is being proted to Unity 5 by inXile (and will come out this summer). I wonder if Obsidian is interested in doing a similar thing for Pillars of Eternity. Understandably it's not a minor task, but everyone can benefit from better performance.

Same.  I know people are going to say it's "a lot of work," but the differences in performance will benefit everybody,e specially for us people who are gaming on Linux where unity performance has it problems.

  7.

Let's see: Sawyer was lead designer on Icewind Dale 2 and Fallout New Vegas.

And IWD2 was the weakest part of BG-IWD era. NWN2OC must be one of buggiest, most boring games in the whole genre.

Actually, PoE is probably the best Sawyer game for me. Pleasant graphics, nice music, serviceable story and combat, reasonable number of bugs.

Don't know why people keep saying NWN2 OC was a sawyer game, because it was not.  He only took over to finish it up after the original head of the project went to bioware.

  8. Everytime i come onto to forum people are talking about how bad these two classes are and that they need work and even more complaining about wizards getting all this attention in the new 1.05 patch.

I was just wondering if anyone knew what the devs plans were for these two classes?

are they currently being worked on at the moment and not just ready?

People are just exaggerating.  Both classes are fine and they don't need any changes.  Some people (like Loneknife) have this MMO mentality where EVERYTHING has to be equal.

  9. I  like the stronghold but i find it can be really better...... For first look that is ok but i would like a little bit more....Maybe  change the 8 mercenaries for trainer of troops, officer, sergent, recruiter,  farmer, doctor, black Smith ...  Organise patrol in the land and on the road, help village for win bonus prestige/security.

For resume: Be more implicated in my land and with my milician or army each time i go to my stronghold. No need to do mission myself, just give order and receive result by my administrator.

Maybe the situation can evolve in each expansion of the game...

The stronghold is a disappointment, and it's pretty obvious they didn't pay much attention to it during development.  All they had to do was copy NWN2's keep, or even add a few meaningful quests like the ones you got in BG2's strongholds.

  10. I'd really like to hear how PoE is better than BG2, I"ve seen that a few times on these boards and find it hard to parse.  Other than some ui and graphics, I would put it below BG2 in pretty much every catageory.  Speaking of categeories...

Combat:    BG2 > PoE > BG1 ~=~ DA:O   (I didn't play much IWD but that would probably be near the top, but I like more than just fighting in my games)

Graphics: look at screen shots and make your own choice, but probably PoE winner here.

    Companions: BG2 > DA:O > PoE = BG1

Choice and Consequence: DA:O > BG2 = PoE = BG1.  Not a whole lot of this in the old games unless you consider "Gimme more money, I'm evil!" C&C.

Exploration/Setting:  BG2 > PoE = BG1 > DA:O.  (Never played Planescape but from what I've seen, that would win this cateogory)

Story:  If you want a good fantasy story, read a book.  Honestly folks, go into a bookstore and pick one based on a cover that catches your eye and you're virtualy guarenteed a better story than ANY game.

I was going to reply to the question in your post, but the fact that you think any of the of BG1 companions comes close to someone like Eder or Durance makes your post Null And Void.

  11. PoE hasn't even outsold the EE games which were re-releases...oh boy...hopefully they can muster that.

Yeah, the game hasn't out sold the EE games despite the fact PoE was released a month ago and the EE games were released more than a year and a half ago.   PoE sold around 350,000 copies in a month, which was the same amount that Divinity Original Sin sold.  Yep, totally unsucessful games.  rolleyes.gif

  12. I liked the companions, I felt that they had a lot more dialogue than a lot of people think,

I have to scratch my head when people say they don't talk much.  Companions in this game actually have A LOT of dialogue.  They usually have something to say during every quests.

However, this game lacks character development between party members,  They make simple comments to one another when you leave a building, but there needs to be more than that.  There needs to be conversations where the player character can talk to more than one party member at the same time.  Or even more than 2 party members having a discussion.

  13.

But we're not seeing clear-eyed and balanced critiques; we're seeing people angry that the designers didn't obey them lashing out.

the companions and exploration are not even close to BG2 and the plot is standard cookie-cutter stuff.

I give you exploration, but PoE's plot is more cookie cutter than BG2?  BG2 has better developed companions?  Um, nope.

  14. I really don't want to get into an argument. By all accounts people are soloing with chanters, ciphers and apparently even Paladins. Also my point is that Cipher is very powerful for most of the game, but compared to wizards/Druids they seem somewhat lightweight in the boss fights. Like a good ole warlock in fact. And chanters are pretty darn good.

I don't find the chanter directly comparable to other casters anyway.  They feel more like fighter/marksman that uses their magic as support, like the Paladin.
