  1. Personally, I think they succeeded and then some: she's one of the best companions in any RPG I've thus far played.

I like Sagani, but one of the best?  I like her character and her personal journey, but I thought the way her story played out was kind of dull, and she acts like a mere acquaintance than a friend to you (there no development between her and the watcher).  I can think of MANY companions in an RPGs that are more interesting, especially from PoE1.

  2. I have another dilemma: it would kinda make sense for my character to want to care for a child/adopt a kid, but she's a pacifist so it wouldn't make much sense to kill a nice guy to get to keep that baby.

Lliras attacks you no matter what you do or say after taking the baby.  I don't think he's all that nice either considering he wants to secretly poison in father instead of handling it another way.  I took the baby so she wouldn't have to deal with that kind of drama.  I had no intention of being somebody's assassin nor someone baby murderer.

  3.

I'm honestly glad that their getting rid of that crappy convoluted system that was in PoE.  Just stick with one health bar like in other games please.

No. The health / endurance split was one of the best aspects of PoE's mechanics and added a lot of strategic depth to encounters.

No, it wasn't.  PoE's battledidn't last long enough for the endurance system to even matter.  Thankfully Ropekid is smart enough to get rid of this crappy system by go back to a system that was never broken to begin with.

  4. Moving onto the next question, yeah, there were no great lookers in PoE1.

Heh, I disagree.  :p  Grieving Mother is a milf, and I think Sagani is kind of cute for a Dwarf woman.

also I've notice that many of the female companions are not really conventionally atractive.

Maybe Xoti doesn't fit what the European call conventionally attractive, but she would be considered conventionally attractive where I come from (New Mexico).  Ywdin pretty attractive as well....just look at some of the comments about her on this board.

  5. So I did ask Aarik about if the developers would like to model the pirates after themselves.

The answer was that they'd probably not be keen on it.

And he was fairly certain that especially Josh and Feargus wouldn't be thrilled by that idea at all.

Personally I understand that. Aarik didn't give any reasons, I don't think he has to.

Let us just respect their wishes on this matter and move on ;)

No offense to the developers, but I find this strange.  They're ok showcasing themselves in public on camera all day, but they're so private they're against referencing themselves in a game they're making?  That doesn't make any sense to me.  I'm a private person in real life, and I rather do the latter than the former.

    What he said.

The boat is ugly. Says so right in the thread title. The rest of it is explanation of why I find it ugly, and what I think could/should be done to make it less ugly. I suggest looking at real ships because I believe that modelling a cool-looking sailing ship from scratch without doing so is unlikely to succeed.

That's really all there is to it. This geeking out about specific ship types is fun but doesn't really have anything to do with the argument I'm making. It is an argument from aesthetics, and I continue to believe that it would be possible to have a cool-looking ship and cool shipboard gameplay.

In your opinion.  I think the boat looks fine and they shouldn't bother trying to adjust things for a few whiners.

IMO, if they have to add gay romances, then keep them to 1 or 2 people (one male and one female).  It seems more realistic than making over half the party gay since the majority of the people in the world are not gay.

Not that I give a damn about the sexual orientation of people in general as long as they play nice, but I do give a damn about statistical arguments. So I ask you this. In a fictional world with magic, dragons, and lion companions. Do you really find it prudent to use statistics of the real world to justify a position, limiting the creative freedom of OE to make the game as they see fit?  I think it's rubbish.

Considering PoE world's takes a lot of things from real history, yes.  I hope ropekid sticks with that principle. I stand by what said, so I'm not going to argue about it.

So... do we want to discuss what romances everyone is looking forward to? Or hoping that they will be implemented?

I agree that Eder is probably a given, because EVERYONE loves Eder.

I'm hoping for Aloth, because I roleplayed my elf rogue Watcher having a soft spot for him in Pillars 1. It would be interesting to see how Islmyr affects a potential romance plot... my Watcher told Aloth to harmonize with her, but that means they would be having a threeway...

Lol, my Watcher is also a rogue elf and I too have high hopes for Eder and Aloth being romanceable and available for female Watchers. And I'm sure something hilarious will come where Iselmyr is concerned, too bad I told Aloth he doesn't need her to be strong. Perhaps she'll still be around to lesser extent.

As for who's gonna be LGBT I honestly can't say, aside from some joke remarks in PoE1, none of the characters really expressed themselves in that vein (or about anything). Maybe Pallegina? She has a guy's mentality, being risen as a brother of the Order. But I'm not sure why LGBT is a must have, in these SJW days if there won't be any in the game it would actually be refreshing.

I think Maneha hits on Pallegina and the female watcher, so I guess she's gay.

  9. I don't know why they can't have any quests.  I feel that both Ydwin and Bonteru should have some sort of mini quest based on their story. Devil of Caroc's quest in WM1 was literally you talking to some guy and choosing between 2 decision.  Heck, a lot of characters in BG2 had quest where you just talked to one NPC.

I know Ropekid said that it takes a lot of time and budget to add content to companions, but surely it wouldn't be hard to add a simple quest similar to the quests I just mentioned.

  10. I don't like this sidekicks idea. I rather have the 8th companion. It seem these are just custom characters from some of the quests without personality, party interactions, personal quests and not affected in companion relationship. These characters can actually be custom made yourself!.

Except they're more than just custom characters.  They do have a personally, they do have banters, and they do make comments sometimes.  Just not much as the other companions since they don't have the relationship system.  Some of you people here really need to do your research.

  11. Jeff Vogel has a great post on this.  Basically reusing objects allowed his team to make 10 amazing RPGs (and a couple so-so ones).

In those 10 years, you think he could have at least learn how to improve the art style in addiction to using the same assets.

Anyway, I don't mind Obsidian using the same assets for PoE.  Baldur's Gate 2 used a lot of enviromental assets from BG1 like caves, temples, and houses.  Obsidian can certainly do the same thing for Pillars 2 to save time and money.

They are talking about making a TB game now...like PE wasn't...plus they are WELL behind the curve on the TB field...I mean they keep wanting so much to do it but I have no confidence it would even be as good as D:OS much less better than it.

To be fair, I'm almost entirely sure an Obsidian-made TB game will still be better than D:OS in everything but combat, because quite frankly, everything but the combat sucked in D:OS.

I guess it's a matter of taste.  I enjoyed the colorful graphics and some of the characters in divinity original sin.  I definitely enjoy the music in that game (I thought Pillars music was unforgettable in comparison).  I also thought it was a refreshing change of pace that the game was light-hearted compared to other games in the genre, which help the game have an idenity in someway.

The main storyline was horrible though.  Pillars also had a bad main story with pacing issues and weak motivation for the main character (compared to obsidian's other games), but some of the side quests made up for that.  I definitely interested in seeing how Obsidian would handle a turn based RPG though.

  13.

Durance works well in armor, but priests are much weaker melee combatants in PoE than they have traditionally been in D&D.  Moreover, the priest functions best when he buffs the party as rapidly as possible while occasionally throwing out crowd-control spells like repulsing seal.  Each round you are swinging a sword is a round where you could have done something more useful for the party, making it a bad idea to spec Durance for melee combat.

I take it you never used a priest of Skaen?  They are definitely one of the most deadliest melee fighters in the game if you spec them correctly.

  14.

The funny thing is that the solution seems obvious : chanters with a little rework could fit the role of alternative to priests.

Not as equals, it is not the point, but well enough to make priest not a mandatory choice.

Chanters have other advantages : they have great summons and they are also very good tanks.

With a little help from paladins and druids (moonwell, nature's bounty...), they would perfectly fit the role.

Chanters and priests are also versatile enough to avoid overlap if you take both of them.

So basically, it is just another argument to rework chanter IMHO.

Priest class itself doesn't really need a rework. It is more a problem of class role distribution.

Why would you want Chanters to "fill an alternate role to priests" ?

They're already filling a different role, unless you can offer me a priest build which can offtank while providing healing and buffs/debuffs for an unlimited period of time.

Thanks to the per encounter spells, my priest in PoTD can do all of that at level 13-14.

  15. It completely takes away players' freedom. You wanna do their side quests? You gotta have them on your team all the freaking time. It's not fair to other companions; nor is it fair to the player. You can only play the game a certain way if you want 100% completion. Because those 2 can't go.

    As I said before......

I'm the type that likes to switch around companions in my games, and I had no trouble completing both Durance's and Grieving Mother's questlines.

I didn't even use Durance that much since my main character was priest.  I still completed his quest before part 4.
