  1. So while I am waiting for PoE i was revisiting some of the earlier Total War titles, then tried to start up BG saga but decided I wont be able to complete it before to release so I dropped it, then I got a free 1993 Syndicate (god I am old) on Origins, and played it... it is still a very good game and the midi sounds of the game are still good, I was surprised how enjoyable it still is even after those 20 years. I miss some new features, like for example auto-targeting once you give attack order, better UI for group control, etc to streamline it a bit, but the game play and setting are just really good... and this game is 22years old....

oh and I also play once in a while some Homeworld and Age of Wonders 3

Relic gimme a new Homeworld dammit

  2. @cresentdark,

again, the main point of the complaint is the fact that they misinformed people during the poll about the shape of shipments. they knew that they cannot accommodate the day 1 delivery for non-us backers yet they made the poll sound like they could hence there is a high chance that a lot of people voted on that option. if they knew already that it is a choice between 1-2 weeks and 2-3 weeks delay, i doubt the poll would yield the same results. the poll results affected the content of physical editions, especially the CE ones, which are now not what constitutes a CE (lack of an important content - game disc)

There were no options to opt out, the communication about the shipping has been lacking to say the least for a long period of time.

As for the shipping - if you know FROM DECEMBER, that there is an issue with ports, why the hell not use a continental rail to the east coast and ship from there? it is not that much more expensive, or hell, go and make a deal with UPS or FedEx for deliveries, I am fairly sure you can get quite a one off deal if you come in with thousands of physical goods, and then they have the contractual obligation to deliver everything on time on their cost... we are talking about having knowledge for over three months... at first i thought that the dock workers strike is a recent occurance, like a week or two old, if it is over 3 months old, there is even less of excuse for this f... up.

I do care about the trust I've put in that they have ability to deliver the product or at least accurately inform us about the predictable outcomes.

You didn't buy a product. There's no sale/purchase deal going on here. You're not getting ripped off in any way. You donated to a company; in return that company has promised to reward you with copies of their product. You are going to get exactly what you were promised; just with a delay. Any reasonable person should have predicted shipping difficulties and been prepared to wait for months after the shipping date, based on prior Kickstarter results.

I can understand being upset; this rage coming out of people I do not understand.

I am not complaining about the product. I had no issues with it being delayed or some changes and design decision made. I do have a problem with how they communicated on the shipments part, especially during and after the poll, and how they are handling the outcome of their odd decision, that is not satisfying for non-US backers of physical tier.

There is also a problem with CE editions for a number of high tier backers, where they will get something that does not meet the criteria of the collectors edition, i.e. boxes not containing the game disc. which raises a number of additional issues, like probability of missing discs in transit, lower collectible value if you have to unseal it to put the disc in, if the boxes are sent unsealed, who will be held accountable if some of the content is missing? Obsidian? Paradox? Shipping party? etc.

Who selected Paradox as the publisher in the first place?

Who gave birth to the people who made that decision in the first place?!

Do you see how silly the blame game becomes?

    and the point here is?

Aside of looking stupid I see no purpose for the comment. Perhaps you should heed an advice given by some famous people:

Here, one by Abe, one of forefathers of your beloved 'murica.

"Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt."

Is there a reason you had to throw out a "Murica"? Or are you just poisoning the well?

just trying to match the sophistication level in terms of comments of the quoted part

  6. Also, why isn't anyone calling out Paradox for anything? They're the ones publishing the game.

Who selected Paradox as the publisher in the first place?

I communicate with the people that I gave money to in order to fund the project, it is THEIR responsibility to arrange proper conditions, including agreements with third parties, like publishers, and execute the conditions of these agreements accordingly. If something fails, it is their responsibility to appropriately AND accurately inform backers about the situation.

I will reiterate the point, that it takes 3 business days for an express delivery of a small package to come from anywhere in US to anywhere in EU, I believe it is 7 days for all other parts of the world. It should not interfere with the process that much. I understand that regular shipments take from 7-14 days to around a month, so i guess it might be a bit late at this point, to get them on day 1, but from what I understand the content was not shipped yet.

If that's the case they still have a choice for opt outs etc. considering that majority of people will be playing digital version anyway, additional delay of 1-2 weeks should not be a problem if they will communicate properly

  7. It's just a bit childish not to acknowledge understandable factors in things. You should be able to experience frustration without having to assign blame for it. They should've been clearer with their information. Blame assigned. Other things are frustrating, too. That doesn't equal "Obsidian doesn't give a crap."

These are people, and it's human freakin' decency to wait until you actually have a reason to call it like that. It's like when you get stuck in some horrible traffic jam on your way to work, and your boss is all "Hmmm, obviously you don't care about punctuality, u_u"... What a crappy thing to say. Yeah, I guess you should wake up 4 hours early and get to work 3 hours early every day, just to make sure there's no delay that could POSSIBLY make you late.

Maybe they should've just printed all the game manuals and guides a year before they finalized the mechanics, you know... so they could guarantee you'd have them on March 26th. *eye roll*

the thing is, when I am going to be late I call even if there is a remote chance that I might be late, I usually leave a bit earlier than need to, to prevent "late arrival" situations. If i come early, I just get some coffee and read my private stuff.

Again, you are making points about things I am not addressing. F. up is a f. up, no matter if they cared or not ( I can;t reliably say if they did or not), the thing is, they chose poor wording, they fall short on their promise and were extremely poor on the "communication" part when it comes to shipments and deliveries so far. That's a fact, not an opinion. We are also not in middle ages. an express delivery takes 3 DAYS between NA and EU, but you need to pay extra money for that. Trying to mock the deliveries by 1 year before print outs is just silly considering the age we live in.

  8. it's not about care, it is about the business credibility. I do not give two hoots about whether they care or not, I do care about the trust I've put in that they have ability to deliver the product or at least accurately inform us about the predictable outcomes. It wasn't the warehouse where they stored games getting set on fire that causes the issue, it is the withholding a crucial information out of the poll session and thus misleading the customers when they are making the decision. I can only assume it was a f.. up with the inaccurate wording of the poll choices, but then at least they should try to remedy the situation at their own cost. It's not like all the products were shipped already and there is no way to fix this. There was also a lot of request for the opt out selection even during the poll, and aside of one answer - "we will look into it with Paradox" there was no follow up ever since.

  9. I give them credit for creating what seems to be a good game (waiting to play it :) ), but they totally messed up the shipping part and there is no credit due here, only criticism so they can learn for the future and PERHAPS remedy situation on the emergency mode now. I expected at least opt in/out for the deliveries of full game or not.

EDIT: Be prepared for even more backlash from separated shipping once inevitably a number of backers will not get their separate disc as it will go missing in transit.

  10. @Leferd,

There is a world of difference in between "force majeure" such as a dockworker strike, and withholding a critical information from not knowledgeable customer base, when they are making a decision about the promised content.

The critical information in this case was that there WILL be a transit lag no matter which option you select, the difference is between 1 week and lets say 2-3 weeks, BUT we can presume that this kind of information WOULD have influenced a number of backers in selecting the option with later delivery of the FULL product (so no separate disc shipments). So another number of people now ends up with subpar product (CE with missing content) and there is not even a positive trade of in a shape of day 1 delivery, which COULD have been assumed based from the wording used during the poll.

so instead of a delay, where people would get a full content, we get a slightly shorter delay with missing content and a lower end value for collectors edition. On top of that Obsidian is actually paying more for that. So not only they cannot satisfy the day 1 expectations in the first place, not only they failed to deliver on expectations to the high tier backers, they also are paying MORE to do so...

  11. I bailed on Darkest Dungeon because I couldn't get over the level 3 lull, and want to leave some of it for when they actually finish the game.

Picked up XCOM:EU and EW on steam, so I've been running through that. As someone who's first PC game was Terror from the Deep, I think EU/EW is actually a good update and while it loses some nice aspects of the originals it is infinitely less frustrating and drags on less.

Once you will complete the unmodded game (i recommend doing that) You just have to get the LongWar mod. Simply habe to.

If you want to see the gamplay i highly recommend a guy called Beaglerush. He is 2 5h episodes into the game on Firaxis Tuesday fiveoclock.

  12.

... international customers, because not only they won't get the boxes on day 1 as promised (despite knowing otherwise), but they will also get boxes without the game disc, which adds more salt to the wound.

I knew otherwise. It will be an impossible task to get physical box rewards (sans dvd) delivered to all backers within a day or two of the release date. There is no way to do it. And one of those reasons is transit times. Different countries have different transit times. TBH, it wouldn't surprise me if some backers get the dvd before their box.

I realize there are different transit times, but then why to make such vague points, where one might conclude that it will be at the same time when he will have the digital key in his hands.

    1. We ship everything out except the game disc, which we then ship to you after finalizing the 1.0 version. Wait a minute. That sounds crazy. You’re going to ship me a game with NO DISC inside at first?! Here’s why we think that’s good: Anyone who pledged to a physical reward tier will get a digital copy. You’ll be able to get a Steam or GOG.com key on our site and play the game at the same time as everyone else. You’d be able to take out your Collector’s Guidebook, your cloth map, your mousepad and enjoy all of it at the same you’re playing Pillars of Eternity.

This should have been worded in other way, clearly stating, that it is a choice between a week or two and two to four depending on the region of the world with exception to US where you may have it most likely on day 1.

  13. @BAdler,

I am not sure how it works, BUT if you KNEW that there will be a shipping lag of a week or two or even more for international packages anyway, WHY ON EARTH you put up a poll with such a poor description of the situation. I can only assume that a lot if not all International customers who voted for option 1 did so because they wanted to have everything on DAY 1 as described in the poll. That seemed to be the trade off. You should have made it clear that it only applies for the US customers.

Now you aggravated basically all of your international customers, because not only they won't get the boxes on day 1 as promised (despite knowing otherwise), but they will also get boxes without the game disc, which adds more salt to the wound. So now you have people who forked out a lot of money for high tier editions who are largely dissatisfied about the lacking collectors edition and all other physical tier backers who are dissatisfied because they won't get what they wonted while putting trust in that poll.

IF there is any way to fix that is to simply put the international shipments on hold fill them up with the discs and then go from there. I doubt that anyone will mind if it is 1 or 2 weeks delay if they can get just a one shipment and be done with it. The big selling point of the option 1 was the DAY 1 availability.

It's just also a bit of mismanagement issue. You pay more for shipments and yet you create more frustration among your fans/customers...... all due to miscommunication to the fans that was derived from not revealing all the known information about shipments clearly....

  14.

So, when are we planning to try Edge of the Empire, btw?

Funnily enough I was reading through that last night really wanna run that thing..

For Roll20 though i'd need to have a "Mentor Subscription", and i'm considering it... maybe when i get paid in a couple of days..

As for this week, unless something random and unpredictable pops out of the realm of time, we should be on track with Numenera tomorrow.

@Darkpriest you're more than welcome to join our group.

I'll check it out. so it's 9PM CET?

  15.

Well the problem with kickstarter projects is the credibility of the team behind it.

While I like the concept I am not sure if I can trust that it will deliver, I am in the group, that once its funded and shipped I will buy it based on the feedback, but I am not blind trusting like I am in case of the PoE team and W2 team.

I agree with you, but this is a pretty experienced team, so this is one of the Kickstarter's that looks reliable.  Plus they already have some gameplay going on, so this isn't starting from scratch.

what have they released and when? This is the questions for most of the people. if they cannot easily identify the past products and their quality it is highly unlikely they will support it. I have a problem with answering to that question myself.

  16. I have seen a lot of complains about the game, but these are mostly the people that expect it to be more developed 4x strat instead of what it is and meant to be to begin with. a tactical turn based combat game, with flavor of 4x add on to keep the replay value higher up.

like people expected CiV:BE 1.5 ... I think it does well what it was meant to be and short runs are exactly what should make it fresh each time you restart the campaign.
