  1. is vastly overused, and that's why it's not been seen recently
You have a very interesting point of view here. Please name at least 9 PC rpgs using a steampunk setting. Arcanum, Septerra Core... What else?
Hell, just try to name rpgs or games or anything period recently that's been steampunk based. Fable III, Resonance of Fate, Bioshock, Damnation, Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends, Steambot Chronicles, Rain-slick Precipice of Darkness, and that's about it from the last 5 years.
And not a single RPG was mentioned. Thanks for proving my point.I also sense lots of JRPG derpity in the rest of your post.
Not sure what you mean as far as JRPG derpity, but I was in fact trying to prove your point that no CRPGs have come out in the genre, and pretty much no games period that capture the same allure as Arcanum did. So you're welcome?

Yeah, rereading what I posted now sounds very passive-aggressive. Sorry.

The part about dieselpunk - that sounds to me like **** that is routinely included in JRPGs.

  3. Another intersting point you're trying to make is that we, who want isometric/turn based/whatever rpg don't really like those games, it's just the rose tinted glasses making us believe we like them.

That would mean nobody really likes games(rpgs) being made today. If a paradigm shift happens, and games in the future are completely different than the oh so excellent, immersive, emotionally engaging, cinematic action rpgs experiences we are getting now, will you suddenly unlike both the games and the entire concept?

  4. Nice walls of text there wulf... In one wall of text you even argued walls of text are bad - imagine that!

You are arguing constantly that what people posting here want is wrong.

Well let me tell you this. Mr. Avellone asked people what they wanted, and since they obviously liked Planescape etc. it's quite normal to want something similar.

Nobody cares whether you believe games shouldn't have walls of text. Most people here believe otherwise, or at least they would like another game that has them (don't tell me games with lots of text are also overbundant).

Yes, I said PC because I only care about games with complex gameplay enabled by both the PC interfaces and PC audience. I don't really care whether a setting was overused on consoles.

Why should the console players be entitled to a game funded by PC players? Especially when we know that games tend to be dumbed down/simplified for gamepads/consoletards.

  5. People seem to forget that making most of their ideas will cost well above what fun support can fund. You have to think small, you have to think oldschool.I would personally love to see a modern reincarnation of Planscape: Torment, done on modern engine, maybe with more voiceover and a few additional quests here and there. I think almost everyone will agree that PST is one of the best games of all time, but right now graphics are what is keeping many people from discovering this gem. Think of how many people could enjoy it if it had Dragon Age (1) graphics... Full voiceover, I'm not sure if it would do lines justice but hell, it's worth a try.

What are you babbling about? Planescape has gorgeous graphics, 17 times better than Bland Age. There is also a widescreen patch available.

  6. I would even dare you to go so far as to make, say, a Muslim protagonist. How many can you name off on your hand right now?
How many Hindu protagonists can you name? What about Christian? I don't remember ever playing a christian protagonist!
I don't see why you'd even have any real world religions in the game.

    Exactly my point.

You can have lots of customisation of your character even if you exclude real human ethnicities, why do all games have to be focused on homo sapiens, when they contain humanoids, there are so many unique and distinct being you can create that don't have to have anything to do with real humans.

Also true, but this is generally done by making humanoid, not only tolkienesque races, but also the dreadful furries.

  7. Main character shouldn't be a white straight male(or an analogue of such), how about a game in setting where those word have little meaning, have a society with a colourful bisexual androgynous populace, why not have the majority of the population be non-human, some sort of original humanoid (and not an ethnic stereotype in fantasy/sci-fi guise).
Great idea, let's focus on the story and setting on abnormal sexuality. Bioware has blazed the trail on this by publishing several high profile RPG/dating sims. Obsidian just needs to take it to the next level and abandon all pretense of story beyond who gets to bang who! /sarcasmAlright, that might have been a little bit harsh. Point being, sex should not be the main focus or even a heavy element in RPG's. Leave that to the dating sims.
by no means did I want sex to the main focus, it'd be nice if there was a game capable of talking about sex and relationships in a mature meaningful manner, that wasn't from atlus, but I don't think obsidian are capable of that. No, I just want a game where the protagonist isn't the same standard character as every other video game, I'm only asking for a bit of diversity.

Shouldn't they just leave the choice to player? Why the f*** would they force worldview/sexuality/anything on the PC I want to play?

Even TNO could be shaped to a person/alignment you wanted.

I for one I'm not ashamed of being a white heterosexual priviledged man; for my rpg-s I pick characters I wish to roleplay, be they white, black, green, purple, gay, straight, asexual, tall, short, fat, human, elf, genius, retarded, nice, violent... That's what chargen is for.

  8. I too would wish to see a ToEE-like (Knights of the Chalice is also great) quality turn based combat, but without any filler combat, just a several dozen hand-crafted encounters. A fully controlable party of up to 8 characters, isometric camera.

Setting would preferably draw inspiration from any or each of: Planescape, Arcanum, Wasteland.

You should also play all Bioware games after BG2 to plainly see elements NOT to be included.
