Hmm. I figured that everyone from the NWN forums would have received the email, and hoped that was being paranoid. I cannot access the "old" forums... Jade Empire, NWN, etc. It takes me to BioWare Social Network home. Since I am logged in automatically when I go there, nothing seems amiss... except the old forums being unavailable.
I'm hoping others have gotten this email and can reassure me it's legit. There is nowhere at Bio's social forum to ask about it, since the social network only deals with Dragon Age and Mass Effect.

I'm probably being paranoid, but want to check out the email I got from BioWare about a NWN forum security breach. It directs me to a page where I'm instructed to choose a new password. Since I haven't been able to find any threads on the BioWare forums about this breach, and a cursory glance here doesn't show any discussion of it, can someone verify that this email was really from BioWare and there really was a breach? Thanks.

I don't care if bin Laden was armed or not. There was an AK-47 and a handgun found in the room within reach. The wife rushed the assault team, and unless bin Laden threw up his hands in surrender, which he didn't, he was probably reaching for those weapons. The only thing that matters is that he is dead. Dead, dead, dead.
Now for the really shocking news: SEAL Team 6 has a canine member that also went on the bin Laden raid. The pooch has body armor, an infrared video camera, an ear bug to receive remote commands. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw training video of the animal in full battle gear being lowered from a chopper along with his human handler.
Now that is totally cool!

I believe she's on play through 3 of DA.Woman after my own heart, but I'm only on my second play through. I LOVE this game, am spending hours and hours investigating every nook and cranny, doing every possible quest, walking from map to map just to hear party banter. I will be so glad when they get the patch out, because the bugs are, well, bugging me.
I could nitpick here and there, story-wise, but overall I think it's an awesome effort which will be more awesome after the patch, lol! -

I imported a save file from Witch Hunt with a character who had gone through Awakenings. The game listed a bunch of choices from Origins, but I didn't see any from Awakenings.
Are there any save elements read from Awakenings that effect DA 2? I didn't notice any personally.
From what I'm seeing on the forums and in the strategy guide, there are certain quests that aren't offered unless your DA:O save game including Awakenings. And one of those quests
"Finding Nathanial" isn't availble to non-Awakenings game imports, and that quest is the only way to get Varric's final armor upgrade.
Also, I get the idea that Anders has significant dialog about goings-on during Awakenings that isn't available otherwise.

I finished the game yersterday. I dont get why people complained about a crappy ending, I thought it was more or less what you might expect. Maybe they should have focused more on Chapter 3 and the ending than all the crap-quests in the first chapter, but this was alright.
I finished it last night as well, fully prepared for a ghastly martyr scene ala Fallout 3 and NWN2 (the two worst game endings in my personal gaming history). Instead it was basically your typical kill the end boss(es) thing. The only wtf moment for me was when
I realized that after agonizing the entire game about whether to support the mages or the templars, it bloody well didn't matter because I had to fight both end-game bosses no matter what. So much for "choice matters"!
The game bugs are brutal. After having to load one particularly contentious boss battle and fight it three times only to have the game crash in the cutscene (which immediately started without a save opportunity), I finally gave up late in Act 3 and set the game up for a cheat mode. Any time I had to redo a brutal battle after 20 minutes of fighting, the words "runscript killallhostiles" on the reloads were music to my tired fingers.
That said, I really loved the game... the game BioWare was trying to give us, that is. I loved the quests... no huge, dreary, hours-long dungeons... I loved the characters, I loved the setting, I loved the story, I loved the romance that my character chose. I didn't love the fact that since I hadn't bought the DA:O Awakenings DLC, I was unable to
do at least one significant quest and couldn't get the final armor piece for Varric.
Now that's just rude.
Today Chris Priestly said that a patch with over 100 fixes has just been sent to EA/Sony for certification. That means we will be seeing a significant patch... eventually! Even with all its bugs, I really loved the game overall. I'm one of those people who spends a lot of time micro-managing my companions' skills and upgrading their equipment, plus I did every single quest available to me. All in all, I got nearly 90 hours of game time in! (All right, all right... probably 10-20 hours of that was reloading, refighting, and figuring out bug workarounds.) So all you haters, neener-neener, at least I had fun and got my money's worth!

America should implement a Star Trek type of "Prime Directive." We're just making matters worse every place we touch, and then we've got people in every oppressed country on the planet staring into tv cameras, screaming at the USA to come in and save them.
As long as the Libyan no-fly zone is a UN-approved, NATO-controlled operation, then it's okay with me... for the moment. There are reports that Khadaffi has killed nearly 8,000 people since his mercenary army went on the move. I don't like to see people dying because they want to rid themselves of oppression. I just wonder why it's okay with the UN for hundreds of thousands in Sudan and Rwandan civil wars, while it's not okay for people to die in a Libyan civil war.
The UN is nothing if not illogical, inconsistant, unpredictable, basically toothless, predominately useless, and utterly corrupt.

Have you tried the 1.01 patch? It's out now and seems to have helped some people.
If not for the patch, I'd still be trying to get into Kirkwall. I have a single-core machine, and until I downloaded the (then)beta 1.01, I was spinning my wheels on an endless loading screen after the prologue. After they finalized the 1.01 patch, I downloaded and installed it, too, for good measure.

I'm halfway through DA2 and I very much like the game itself. I certainly like it better than DA:O. It's got dozens of fun, fast quests instead of a handful of long, dreary dungeons. It's buggier than hell, though, and that I don't like.

I'm halfway through Act 2, and frankly I love this game. It's superior to DA:O in every way. I love the story, the settings, the fast-paced quests instead of the drudgery of massive dungeons. There's only one thing keeping it from being one of my favorite games of all times.
Bugs.
I'm plagued by massive bugs. I had to download the beta just to get into Kirkwall to begin with, then I'm stuck with loading bugs on map transitions that crash my computer and make me reboot sometimes 5-6 times during a play session. My Exiled Prince DLC (which I paid for) is so bugged that I can't complete Sabastian's companion mission, and the barrel puzzles with their excellent reward is unplayable for me because the barrels either don't move or move randomly, not in the sequence they are supposed to.
I'm praying Bio puts out a patch soon that will solve these problems. Clearly, not everyone is having them... but they are really ruining what would otherwise be a wonderful game experience for me.

Well, they did publish the full cable, so unless they faked it, it's pretty good evidence. I don't know if the Wikileaks site has put up that particular cable yet. It does occur to me that this may not be that big of a deal. If all US provides is a unique identifier for each missile, that wouldn't enable the Russians to track it or anything like that. US does have to account for all the missiles it sells to allies, else limiting their numbers wouldn't be very meaningful.
Where?? Could you give me a link, because I have been all over the Telegraph's Wiki archives trying to find it!! Please, I'm begging you.
Seriously, no other major media outlet picked up this story... not the BBC, not CNN, not even the New York Times, which was also a recipient of all the Wikileaks. Every other story out there simply parrots the Telegraph story, which did not print the cable in question.
Every other cable article has had the cable printed. I searched the Telegraph's Wiki using "nuclear", "russia", "missles"... got squat.

He didn't resign, he "transferred power" to the VP (who wouldn't respond when asked if the power could be transferred back to Mubarak, who is still the "legal" president of Egypt. Both Mubarak and his VP blamed satellite news media for causing the protests, and hinted that the west was paying some of the demonstrators.
Demonstrators are furious. A few hundred plopped down in front of the state-run tv station, which has been feeding a stream of lies and propaganda for the past 18 days... and a few hundred are marching to the palace on foot. Don't know if they got by the military checkpoints. No journalist dares venture beyond the safety of the square itself. At any rate, tomorrow is going to be a turning point, I think, one way or the other. All hell is going to break loose.
The military is the key. Whichever side they take wins. The losers most likely will get a bloodbath. So sad.

Your faith in your government is touching, if not slightly scary. So what you're saying is that for me to reach an opinion is that I actually have to lay eyes on a caveated, sensitive government document?
And it's not what I want to believe, speaking as one of the more pro-American voices on this forum, which is often full of knee-jerk anti-Americans of the most tiresome sort. It's what I'm inclined to believe based on the available evidence, which is that your country is no longer particularly concerned about mine and that the current Whitehouse would happily dump a seventy-year alliance for short-term political advantage in a tough mid-term year.
So, yes, I bloody well think your government would intelligence share with the Russians if it was in their perceived interests.
That may well be true. If so, it wouldn't be the first time that I've been furious at my government's policies, and deeply ashamed. My only problem is that all roads to this story lead back to an article in the Telegraph, and article that did NOT provide any evidence of their allegations in the article itself, did NOT provide a link to the cable in question (as it has done in previous articles based on Wikileaks cables), and nobody else can find this cable in any of the Wikileaks storage sites.
When a newspaper prints a story with such serious allegations, it should provide the evidence. In this case, it didn't, and nobody on any of the forums I know or at any site that has picked up the story can find such a cable. If this "case" was brought into a courtroom, it would be immediately dismissed as nonsense, yet millions of people believe it based on a single newspaper article.
So show me the cable. Then I'll publicly criticize my government for abandoning what the American public certainly sees as our closest, most important ally. Also, I'll buy you an e-Guinness!

I've been asking on my political forums for days to have somebody, anybody provide a link to the cable in question. Nobody could, including the UK's Telegraph that wrote the inflammatory article in the first place. You'd think anyone writing such an article would either print the "evidence" in the article or link to it. Under the 1991 START Treaty, the U.S. agreed to notify Russia of specific nuclear cooperation with the United Kingdom, such as the transfer of SLBM's [submarine launch ballistic missiles] to the UK, or their maintenance or modernization. This is under an existing pattern of cooperation throughout that treaty and is expected to continue under New START. We simply carried forward and updated this notification procedure to the new treaty. There was no secret agreement and no compromise of the UK's independent nuclear deterrent.If that's true, then this language has been in the START treaty for 20 years, was no secret and hasn't changed. Now if someone can find the magic cable that says otherwise, I'll take a gander. Frankly it breaks my heart when tabloid newspapers with an agenda deliberately try to widen the wedge between the UK and the USA, because judging from what I hear from many UK residents all over the web, it's pretty damned wide already.

Ah, so what I am reading here you made a decision based on what you thought was best at the time, and the road you've gone down turned out to be less awesome than you had figured, so you feel you made the bad choice?
I let the girl I love go, well more placed my foot on her butt and pushed her out of the door, because it was the right thing to do, she deserved a chance at a life, career, to be near her family etc... It was just the right thing to do, even if such a sacrifice has left me with a massive empty hole, and an inability to feel a full range of emotions, it doesn't matter, it was the correct thing to do.
I cut myself off from her completely, not until after I'd acted like a massive idiot mind. Nothing ever changed for me, I feel exactly the same today, as I did when I first met her, it wouldn't have been fair to stay in touch.
Even now, I wouldn't ever bother her, not even to say hello. As bizzare as it may sound, I get by knowing that my absence is the best thing for her.
She can be happy without me...
Do I think I made a bad choice? No. I could have handled it better, sure, but its all for the best, I'd never have been good enough for her, I was way way out of my league. I'm also an absolutely awful person to be in a relationship with.

They are demonstrating for freedom and democracy. I just can't help but hope they succeed. But I don't think they will. Mubarak, regardless of what he has said, is an arrogant SOB who has no intention of giving up power. He just wants enough time to create a crisis that will allow him to say, "Sorry, but I must stay on until this crisis has passed, for the stability of Egypt." He's willing to put his police in plain clothes and pay thugs to crack skulls. And we want this guy as our ally?
Very sad for those poor people wanting only freedoms and rights. Very sad.

Hold on now. Publishers get paid once per copy sold, if that copy passes through the hands of several users that's how things have operated since the dawn of time with anything from paintings, books, furniture.. The only marked difference being that producing a copy costs next to nothing, and that consequently publishers feel the sting of sales they aren't entitled to a piece of more acutely.
This. Legally, once consumers have purchased an item, it's theres to do with as they please. Used book stores cost authors a ton of money, because why should folks pay full price for a new book when it would be in a UBS within a week of release. However, book buyers have that right.

What do you mean by "women are in combat" compared to "women being in combat roles."
My grandfather was a mechanic in WW2, and was wounded by a piece of shrapnel in combat. But he was a mechanic... wounded while on base. I wouldn't say he was in a combat position yet still faced combat.
He was still considered a combatant and got combat pay. I think I delineated some combat roles that women would be free to apply for, including artillery and tank warfare. And those few who could equal male stamina and endurance, infantry as well. Right now women are considered non-combatants, even when they are pinned down behind a humvee engaged in a firefight with multiple enemies. That's wrong.
