  1. As for guns, I was always a bit feared of them... something changed a year ago and now I'm a licensed (NRA) rifle instructor and will soon be a shotgun instructor. Pistol instruction requires a bit more time on the range, but will happen.

Yeah, glad... played through BG EE2 not long ago and Gromnir was my fave bad guy... :)

  2. Yeah, I actually saw this post a year ago and got my account fixed, but got caught up in life and did not post.  I liked Tarna.  His death was not something I was happy about.

  3. I have a .22LR Ruger American rifle, a .22LR Ruger SR-22, and a .45ACP Ruger SR-45... haven't shot the SR-22 yet, but will soon (either I get a membership at an indoor club, or it gets warm enough to shoot outdoors).  The SR-45 is great, but I'm flinching with it and pulling my shots down to the left.  That's why I bought the SR-22, to prevent poverty from practicing @ 60 cents per shot. :)

  4. so, given that the former law professor (constitutional law, correct) said last night that foreign corporations were not excluded from this ruling*, i expect everyone is now going to point out that obama is a liar, right? i mean, you guys claim you are consistent... let's hear it.

  5. A bunch of us are saying the same thing and Wrath isn't getting it, so I'm going to let it rest. It's probably a language barrier issue, I remember that English is not Wrath's first language.

so, what, because a bunch of you are saying the same thing you're right?

sorry hurlshot, but you're all wrong on this one rather badly. wrath understands perfectly, and is correct.

^calax: a proper analogy requires two things, first, the comparisons must be of a similar type, and second, the magnitudes of what you are comparing must be similar. sorry, but saying someone is your favorite philosopher (or one of your favorites, same stinking thing that you apologists refuse to understand) is not the same as saying you admire someone (particularly when you single out certain traits you like). even if we forgive a little on that part, the magnitude of mao's problems are in the 10s of millions of deaths due to his rule. slavery, the "bad" thing on the founding fathers' shoulders (sorry, they did not desire war, they simply recognized that it was required), was an acceptable practice at the time of the founding fathers, willful extermination of millions of people never is. to put the two in the same analogy is pretty bad, even for you.

the quip about hitler, too, is a ridiculous strawman. it is certainly possible to find a trait in someone that is good, even if they are on the whole, and in no way compares to claiming mao as one of your favorite philosophers.

the depth of ignorance in this thread is stunning.

  6. I danced with them back in 1998. I'd rather owe money to the mafia.

uh, it has been since then, from what i recall, like over the last decade or so... though perhaps what you are referring to is the kinder, gentler version. maybe they used to beat you first, then the rest? :)

  7. In the Tool days he mostly just did his contortionist thing, it was pretty awesome though. They only played here once, but I saw em.

he was backlit behind a screen when i saw him the first time, so all we got was his shadow. the second show i saw i don't recall what he did (same tour, different venue, however).

  8. be thankful they aren't fire ants. besides the obvious problems those buggers cause*, in my experience they are even harder to get rid of than other ants. we used to chase ants between yards when i lived in florida. put the ant stuff down, they move next door, the neighbor puts some down, they come back, rinse, repeat.

    * fire ants wait till there are sufficient numbers on large targets and bite all at once. a single bite stings, a hundred at once is quite painful, almost enough to knock you over.

  9. i can't believe you guys are splitting hairs of degrees of favoriteness. moronic, at best. anybody citing someone else as "my favorite," "one of my favorites," or even "somebody i like" definitely agrees with his/her philosophy.

c'mon, let's at least try to employ a little bit less rationalization and a little bit more reality.

that said, your position, calax, is clearly your opinion of beck's opinion. he's no more a liar than you are. this is exactly what i was talking about when you people cite opinion as fact. it's just plain silly.

  10. I know the difference, but that doesn't mean I have to say "Oh, well he's an opinion commentator"

you said he was reporting the news, he does not. if you are going to pretend to be impartial yourself, you should at least understand why that makes a difference. this is a pretty silly statement.

If you have an opinion, you should at least try to back it up with facts if you're going to represent the idea as fact

    nonsense.

Also outright lying in your advertising campaigns (No spin zone anyone?) doesn't exactly speak well of programs.

lying? isn't this just your "opinion?"

sometimes you people really amaze me. you can't STAND IT that other people have their own opinions, and you regularly make your opinions out to be fact. wow.

  11. Thing is that mainstream news can twist the facts totally to the point where it's unrecognizable. Fox News is particularly good at this, evidenced in the other thread where we discussed Mr Beck. (of course they say that their lineup between 2 and 11 pm is just commentary which is odd but)

beck is a conservative opinion analyst, no different than chris matthews (on the left). i was right, you don't know the difference.

  12. oh, and for the record, i've been out maybe 10 or 11 days so far. my buddy and i are probably going to go up sometime this week, and again with our families on sunday (to copper mountain - season pass). another friend has a condo in aspen and my buddy and i will be out there sometime next week for a few days of fun on ajax mountain, too. i'm more interested in the party, however, since ajax is a pain when the snow is old. aspen is a pretty kickin town.
