With so many ideas and such here (though most are just Planescape 2) it may be a better idea if the OE team just came up with a few pitches and then had us vote on them.

I don't think a lot of people here are understanding the scope of what this would be. If they're raising funds via kickstarter they won't have any left over to actually make the game if they go with a license (Planescape, Arcanum, Fallout, etc.). So it has to be an original IP.
In addition to the swashbuckly colonial conquest type I mentioned earlier, a base-building space mercenary type action rpg would be sweet too. Start as a mercenary and as you gain experience and such you can recruit companions to build up a mercenary company. Use funds to upgrade your headquarters, recruit researchers/engineers/etc to get new equipment and take on new mission types.
Something based on norse mythology where you travel the nine realms and such would also be awesome, or something set during the Roman empire. A historical fantasy type maybe dealing with celtic mythology and the conquest of Britain.

A fantasy RPG set in the "New World" where you're encountering native tribes and unknown monsters and such, and what you accomplish through the game affects how your "home colony" develops. For instance you could secure resources which would grow the population and make more money available, you could war on or sign treaties with local tribes which would mean different things depending on the treaty or how the war goes (Treaty could mean increased trade with limited expansion, while war could mean the colony gets pushed to the brink or unfettered expansion depending on how well equipped or populous the colony is, etc.) You would also be dealing with rival or allied colonies, hostile creatures based on north/south american mythology, etc.
It would be like 1600s tech level with firearms and the more slender weapons and such. Basically more swashbuckly with pirates and sashes and big hats and such instead of huge fantasy pauldrons.

re: Influence meter, I don't mind having it, but don't show the player. This is something that should be a background mechanic. And as to player initiated vs companion initiated dialogue, these should not be exclusive. You should be able to initiate dialogue with your companions whenever you want, but your companions should be able to do the same.
