    Comment by the Information and Press Department on the escalation of tensions on the Syrian-Turkish border

    In the morning of August 24, Turkey announced the start of a military operation in neighbouring Syria. Media outlets have reported that Turkish tanks and troops, including special forces, entered Syria in a joint operation with the allied Syrian opposition groups. According to Ankara, the operation has been launched to combat ISIS and Kurdish rebels.

    Moscow is seriously concerned by the developments on the Syrian-Turkish border, and is especially alarmed by the prospect that the situation in the conflict zone will continue to deteriorate, resulting in greater civilian losses and heightened ethnic tensions between Arabs and Kurds.

    We firmly believe that the Syrian crisis can be settled exclusively on the solid foundation of international law through an inclusive intra-Syrian dialogue involving all ethnic and religious groups, including the Kurds, and based on the June 30, 2012 Geneva Communique, as well as UN Security Council resolutions, including Resolution 2254, initiated by the International Syria Support Group.

If I, a white woman, feel like I need a shower after reading your article, I can only begin to imagine how infuriating that must have been. It’s not right you should have had to spend your time, effort, and mental and emotional energy that way, but I thank you for making the world a better place for all of our students and children… again!

    I am going to send an email to my district’s equity team to alert them to this situation. I’d like to hope no one in our district is using it, but it would be good to be sure, and I can also hope that they could join me in letting Mission US know this is unacceptable.

    Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) has prevented terrorist attacks in Crimea that were planned by the Ukrainian Defense Ministry’s intelligence agency, the FSB said.

    The Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine (HUR MOU) was preparing to target the Russian peninsula’s critical infrastructure, the FSB announced on Wednesday.

     

    A group of infiltrators was discovered near the town of Armyansk in northern Crimea near the Ukrainian border in a special FSB operation over the weekend, the agency said, adding that fire was exchanged as the terrorists were being apprehended.

     

    One FSB officer was killed.

     

    Twenty home-made explosive devices equivalent to more than 40 kilos of TNT, as well as ammunition, shells, and other weapons used by the Ukrainian Army’s special forces were discovered at the scene.

     

    Two more attempts by Ukrainian raiding and terrorist groups to breakthrough were prevented by Russian forces on Monday. Kiev’s armored vehicles provided covering fire for the groups from the Ukrainian side, the FSB said, adding that one Russian serviceman had been killed in that operation.

     

    A network of agents from Ukraine’s chief intelligence directorate has been uncovered in Crimea, according to the FSB, which said it included both Ukrainian and Russian citizens that provided assistance in preparing terrorist acts.

     

    Those suspects employed by Ukrainian intelligence are now giving their confessions, the FSB reported, adding that the captured group includes one of the organizers.

    Most people... tend to have a decent grasp on their mother tongue, you do realize that, right? :p

    As for citizenship, there has to be a stake in it. It's defines itself differently in different countries, but without anything in stake, there is no point of safeguarding it or defending it. If there is no point in defending it, then what is the point of enforcing it in the first place other than power of ruling over you? If the latter, then it will collapse on itself sooner or later.

     

    That's why Alumni is right by trying to invoke the common expression of his fellow citizens.

     

    But do you guys consider yourselves a country? Most people think Finland is Sweden...which citizenship do you identify with?
