You can get Hand Mortar by killing him and looting. Fire in the Hole: nope. But Mortar Monk is also fine with Hand Mortar alone, Blinding Smile loool Smoke is enough. Note that Community Patch caps the number of Resonant Touches and removes Avenging Storm procs off of Blinding Smoke. You can manually remove those changes if you want and still keep the mod.

Equipping  some other weapon with Hand Mortar also works well. E.g. Keeper of the Flame (and wear Edér's armor with the Reflex immunity + Imagined Pain to evade all AoE hits from Keeper of the Flame and come out with full wounds after Whispers of the Wind. Don't forget Rooting Pain).

In general I wouldn't dismiss companions when going solo. In solo mode they will automatically go straight to the ship when recruited and they will help in boarding fights - and you can kill them later if you need their gear. ;)

How do we manually remove the changes? Lol, I’ve been using Avenging Storm with the dual mortars and thinking it’s nowhere near as OP as described

I don't think there are bad classes, just classes you have not yet learned to use. There are probably classes that are more specialized, but if you play with a party you can easily mix and match different roles.
Having said that, if you are thinking about solo play/single cipher class, probably the most versatile (without strand of favor-like cheese) is Beguiler, Soul Blade if cheese is allowed
If you are considering also multi classes, I'd go with Psion-Troubadour, with (to try an ultimate challenge run) or without cheese (for anything else)
Also Ascendant-Priest of Skaen should be fun after you learn Salvation of Time + Barring Death Door (and a way to get brilliant)

Could u elaborate a little on your psion/trobadour build? Gearing and skill set wise? I’m theory crafting that Sasha’s singing scimitar and least unstable coil will have some fun stuff at least.  Any interesting synergies? What were the harder / hardest fights?

This topic is reoccurring enough that we as a community could try to solve nicely and diplomatically at some point, maybe provide some kind of commonly agreed recos on how to use or not SoF for the best gaming experience? I think there is more common ground than we'd think for a baseline.

    We have three camps:

Camp in favor of repeatedly equipping/unequipping SoF to prolong effects:

    • Pros: Deadfire only gives the tools to beat everything in the game to certain classes. SoF levels the playing field as an Anti-Nerf Bat, enabling more classes to be PotD/Upscaled/Solo/The Ultimate viable, and that is for the better. No big deal, it's a single player game, you can use whatever you want that is in the game.
    • Cons: with SoF, everything boils down to hoarding prolongable effects and extending them by equipping/unequipping SoF. Certain class/ability choices become meaningless. Also, why use any other class than SC Assassin then: gamebreaking invulnerability with one ability.

Camp in favor of not using SoF:

    • Pros: Keep class specifics and certain unique, rich combinations relatively superior (or vastly over-powered in certain cases). SoF trick is too much of an abuse vs other commonly accepted cheesy combos.
    • Cons: without SoF, only a handful of classes arbitrarily have some "game-breaking" tools to deal with all high-level content in the highest difficulty levels. If you focus on full completion and/or Solo stuff, you have to have certain classes to be able to win. Even the best player with the most balanced party archetype may lose to Megabosses if they don't have certain "trick" classes. That's frustrating.

    Everybody else:

    • Pros: I don't know about it, but i sounds super strong and game-breaking.
    • Cons: I don't know about it, but i sounds super strong and game-breaking.

You know. We should use this post as a TL:DR :p I’m gonna try to document some of SoF cheese and we can use this as the opener.

tbh though, the Ultimate is so hard that you could die even with the Assassin cheese. There’s a lotta levels between 1-19. Getting ur ship sunk, running into too many storms, getting too many ship events, accidentally exiting the water shaper guild.  I’m thinking Vela is still vulnerable too. So you’re still subject to quite a bit of RNG here no? Unless u manage to find lots of scrolls of withdraw 😜

Decadency's run would be the most comprehensive source of knowledge.

A very brief tldr would be:

Get to level 13 for phantom via non-combat quests.

Now you are able to equip your phantom with Mantle of the seven bolts or a similar cloak with on death explode effect.

If you have Berath's challenge active (can be activated via console but needs iroll20s)

you can start a fight with a trap, while being stealthed.

You can also summon phantoms and remain stealthed.

Since they explode on death you can kill MUCH higher level enemies with it, takes quite a bit of patience tho.

Once you get to level 16 and Salvation of time, there is no need for phantoms anymore because you can just SoT brilliant from cloak and bdd for immortality.

A different easier  more cheesy way would be to use Strand of favour, but as Kaylon said it would almost be better to play a less op more fun class, because Skaen/wizard is already op without strand.

TIL about Mantle of Seven Stars and clones! Gonna try exploding clones with a Monk now..

  5. thank you! I will try out those potions.

Yea! Just I got used to the confusing stacking system in POE1. Now I have another 1 to get used to. It seems that stats now all stack when they didn’t use to. Does Spirit Shield stack with Iron Wheel? How do I check?

does Brilliant regenerate wounds or only mortification? Guessing only mortification. It seems the Community Patch nerfed the Brilliant Cloak. it doesn’t trigger from self damage. So I’m not sure how to get it to even trigger now.

Is the herb merchant in Periki the one I should go to if I do a rest reset?

I’m up to level 17 now. Just wondering around the map and doing bounties. I’ve got Devil Breastplate, Taga club, tuotillo palm, lone wanderer ring, + 2 resolve amulet, greater deflection cloak, + 1 dex / res boots, overseeing ring. What’s some good intermediate gear before I go for scordeo’s / keeper of the flame?

  6. Hi All

This forum has been an excellent resource. Big thank you to all the regulars here.

I just started a TCS with SC Forbidden Fist run. I’ve have 3 main questions

    1) Which potions / scrolls are worth using? In POE 1, my go to load out was scroll of defence, flask of war paint, Lengrath’s Displaced Image, Ironskin. It made me extremely tanky. I can’t seem to find the right combination in PoE2.

    2) are any of the bombs and poisons worth using?

    3) How do I stockpile ingredients? The vendors seem very sparse and random. In PoE 1, I could just visit the market and scriveners + upgrade Caed Nua for almost unlimited crafting.

Minor rant: Did Obsidian have to nerf every good skill from PoE1? 😂 Torment’s Reach, Dragon Thresh, Carnage, Interdiction are all pale shadows of their former self. Really makes it hard for a POE1 player to transition. Grrr!!

  7. Just played through a TCS with the Lasher. Thing to note is Battle Forged doesn’t trigger most fights late game. You simply kill mobs too fast. Torment‘s Reach is the only thing u need to use. Just position yourself well at the start of the fight. Most fights I just set the AI to aggressive and let it play out while I go get a coffee. The build is that good 😌

It is the same as with Deltro's, you can hit a target with Scordeo's (properly upgraded ofc) and have a chance to trigger the upgrades including Blade Cascade out of combat.

(If you play the Magran's Fires selected solo mode you can recruit companions and instead of joining you they will be sent to the ship, just be careful to not kill them, so this is done best before getting the Deltro lash :P)

If you play priest or wizard you can also just extend Scordeo buffs with Salvation of time or Wall of Draining, as long as you have brilliant or blood sacrifice and permanently recast your duration extenders Scordeos buffs will persist even after combat ends, now you can use Strand of favour to infinitely extend it.

Solo the Deltro lash can go up to 300% if you play an Assassin and up to 200 if you don't.

(140 is relatively easy to reach)

Easiest way to apply it to self is via max arcana scrolls of chain lightning (140 lash will be more realistic than 200 then, depending on class ofc)

Theres ofc several other ways to self apply it, you just never get a 2nd try and have to wait for the duration to expire (or alternatively as single class wizard cast arcane cleanse on self).

Any way to hit yourself with lightning dmg worksfine, crits are key and high + crit dmg modifiers.

@Kaylonreached 300% solo by playing an Assassin and applying deltros in combat while potion of final stand was active.

This allows you to use Essence Interrupter (which otherwise leads to an instant death screen) with max metaphysics.

Thank you! This is food for thought. By target, can I attack random Sigils or Barrels?

Close Combat becomes best after Ashen Maw is finished and you can get Scordeo's Edge and upgrade to Blade Cascade.

Priest's and wizards can have 100% uptime on 0 recovery, or with .... do I dare say it

Strand of favour any class can.

Ofc that would be way too much fun so we can't have that in an ethical game. 😛

    Hi @Raven Darkholme

Could you elaborate on how this is done? I thought Scordeo's Edge effect is combat only and you can't swap equipment in combat.

I love to try out cheese strats (it's a single player game). Also, I saw your video on the Deltro Helm Lash. How would we achieve a (maybe smaller) similar lash if we were solo?
