  1. It's the point. It's in a place I can plainly see and be reminded of often. It's more of a motivational tool to keep doing what I'm doing. The art direction chosen was simply to indicate how brutal the struggle can be with standing up for what you believe in and how isolated it can make you feel at times. It's not something that I care if others can read or not. I didn't brand it on myself for the convenience of outsiders. It's entirely personal.

  2. Started work on my tattoo sleeve. I started with the inner side of my left forearm. When it's finished, this piece is going to read "Stand Your Convictions and You Will Walk Alone" I just finished the backdrop reading "ALONE" in a red death metal font. When it heals, the rest of the text will be added. It's still up in the air as to how the rest of the text is going to be done.

  3. I bought Despicable Me and The Social Network on BD this weekend. The first is hilarious. I haven't laughed so hard in quite some time. The Social Network I only bought because the OST is pretty damn great. Though, it's quite interesting to have a general idea of how Facebook was born. As a movie it wasn't that bad either.

  4. I played Call of Duty: Black Ops for far too long the past two days. President's Day was a nice break from the 5 day week in Duluth. Now it's only 4 this week as it will be next week Also, next week I'll have a room to sleep in and a friend to accompany me.

  5. Calax, I'm on Book II at the moment. Roughly 100 pages from the end and I have Book III purchased all ready. I really should be reading instead of lurking the web, but it's how I stay sane at the moment. Wake up in my car, shower at the depot, go to Starbucks until a couple hours before work, go to work, read for a couple hours before work starts, work, repeat.

  6. He's originally from Plover, WI. He graduated with my brother who is 7 years younger than I am. They were both on varsity and we'd play pick up games in the public rinks. A couple years ago we played when it was -45 with the windchill. There were a few guys who shattered a puck that night with their slapshots hitting the crossbars. I don't think any one of us got cold that night either. It was a very intense game as everyone wanted to keep moving to prevent numbing limbs. I don't know him on anymore of a personal level than that. He was always good and he knew it.

Edit: On similar notes (this is why I like hockey pros); Brian Raphalski lives in Waupaca, WI (30m away from my home). I've played golf with him a few times. I was invited by my brother. I'm not a huge golf fan. He's really down to earth though. Also, Bret Hull lives near Twig, MN (which is 6m North of Duluth). I got to meet him when we were repairing Railroad tracks near his property. Which reminds me, I haven't been to the US Hockey Hall of Fame yet. It's only about 45 miles north of Duluth.

  7. For me, the scariest movie I have ever seen is the original Alien. It's scarier now than it was when I was little and it's entirely on a psychological level now. The entire movie is a metaphor for rape. The more I pay attention to that fact, the more terrifying it becomes. I think everyone involved with the original did an unprecedented job with the movie. I think it's the more efficient piece of art ever delivered by the entertainment industry in the fact that it did what it was supposed to.

  8. I'm very pleased at seeing NJD pick it up. They are my favored team after all (Besides the locals: Wild, Blackhawks, Redwings. Not to mention Joe Pavelski (SJS) and I played together in High School).

  9. I was taken out on a date yesterday. The entire thing was unexpected, especially the person. The entire thing was just one of those 'vent friend' type of deals. While I'm currently not in the right mindset to depart my lifeboat from my current burned/sunken ship to board a new boat, it was definitely a breath of fresh air. There has been a long chemistry brewing between the two of us but I've always been respectful enough to not invade another person's relationship like that. I'm currently in that vapid, focused state. But on two occasions yesterday I was cast with perma-grin. One being when the perspective on the chemistry was mutual. The second was actually heart warming, which was odd since I haven't felt anything for a couple of days now. It's surprising when someone takes the unexpected initiative to hold your hand.

I'm also very pleased with the above-freezing temperatures. I'll have to bring my fixed gear with me next week so I can put some miles on my bicycle, which is one of my three life-defining hobbies.

  10. I've stumbled upon of of the most influential songs I've listened to. By that, I mean it heavily influenced the genres of music I currently listen to. It was released my senior year in high school and was a great motivational piece for when I wanted to ride my bike. The lyrics were very well thought out and poetic, yet dark. The music is melodic, haunting, precise, and brutal. The greatest part is that it was released by a local band: With Dead Hands Rising (Minneapolis, MN). If anyone's interested, here's a

    Be still and dead.

You have been too sweet and so sedated.

You've kept those pins and needles for too damn long inside your organs.

I hope the worms can find you and smell your perfume before the day is done.

I visioned you with eyes of painted black and silver beauty.

    Glistening.

    Understanding that your never perfect.

We have put ourselves in your shoes without looking back at what you have done.

Without arms to touch the design of an angel gone horribly wrong.

Now you fall from the stars.

Leaving rays of the sunlight behind.

Now you fall from the throne.

Leaving traces of scars at the side.

    No remorse to confide.

    As the tourniquet slowly unwinds.

    Amputate this lifeless figure.

    Binded by the perfect stitches.

    She was beside herself.

The urge to mend appendages has grown from a daytime hobby to a revelation.

To envision a skin of paper white catastrophes.

I pull her bandages and watch her fall to pieces.

I visioned you with eyes of painted black and silver beauty.

    Glistening.

    Understanding that your never perfect.

We put ourselves in your shoes without looking back at what you have done without arms to touch.

With no compassion inside you fall apart.

You fall from this waste of life.

You will fall from your own devastation.

    With no compassion inside.

The mind and heart will whither.

    To dust.

    Resin.

    Marrow.

I hope your happy this way.
