So perhaps the report I saw was a bit misleading. The totals may have been correct, but they didn't necessarily happen in the exact same spot, whereas a 100 year event would be defined for a specific spot, not "somewhere" in the area. Because people don't need to be saved if it's just a regular old flood?As others so eloquently pointed out, I am not sure how a once in a lifetime flood justifies major military hardware for the police.
It's not even a probability, we've had 4-5 floods in the last 40 years with close to 50" inches of rain. Supposedly a 100 year event is 13" of rain over 24 hours, but that's pretty common here, it doesn't even flood except in some low lying areas. The only way I can figure this nomenclature is correct is if they factor out all the hurricanes and tropical storms, since they expect people to evacuate in those anyway.For the Houston area, yes, and it's what experts call '500 year', but aren't really since it's a probability, not an actual historical once in 500 years.

Why don't they just buy monster trucks then ? Those can handle high water and are probably cheaper. And they're macho, so that'll be great for the cops.
MRAP seemed to dwarf any monster truck though, at least when you see it up close.

As far as the White House, Trump should fire Kelly and replace him with Bannon, bring back Lewandowsky and Gorka, and replace Tillerson with John Bolton. Trump needs loyal people who'll carry out his agenda, not a bunch of establishment backstabbers who undermine him every step of the way.

I've considered it and decided it was illogical. All I'd be doing is helping the Dems, which are by far the greater evil. Whigs didn't disappear because people didn't vote for them, it was because the party split internally. Anyway, politics worked far different back then. There's no chance either Libertarians or Greens will ever become a viable party, not that I have any liking for either anyway. Republican party probably will disappear eventually once it can no longer win elections, but as I've said the consequences will be dire.

Actually the weather isn't weird here. Hurricanes are normal for this time of year. What's unusual is that instead of moving inland and dissipating like they normally do, this one was blocked by an area of high pressure and so it sat stationary for several days just dumping rain. It was also lined up just exactly right so that most of the rain fell on Houston. Similar thing happened in 2001, although that was a tropical storm.

The ultimate aim of the Democrats isn't the Soviet Union. In the US most socialists favor the Democrats but most Democrats are not socialists. Socialism is not the aim of that group. Oh sure they will talk about it, even borrow ideas from it. But like I told Ben once they may flirt with the ugly red-haired girl, but they won't marry her.
But as I have said many times and stand behind, the love of liberty does not abide in the US Democrat party. They do not value things like individual rights and freedoms. The Republicans are a best a tepid defender and sometimes and opponent of these ideals but the Democrats are antagonistic to them. Hence the reason I will never, ever, vote for a Democrat under any circumstance. But their dream society is not the USSR. It would be a USA with powerful corporations that buy favors from a government they control with a lot of power over a population that does business with those corporations and offers no dissent.

Was that for Teknoman? I haven't. I have an English copy and I've read some parts of it, but it's pretty thick. Of course, I wouldn't claim to have read the bible, either. I grew up reading passages out of it and have probably covered all of the NT at some point or another, but I've never really sat down and studied it from page to page as an adult. I've read a fair share of religious history books, but I'd never call myself an expert on theology. A hobbyist at best.
That's why I was curious about Teknoman's education on the matter.

Playing Death Knights of Krynn, and really liking it so far; next up will be Dark Queen of Krynn.
Prey is half off on Steam, and also there's a free trial. Started playing it yesterday.
Still not quite feeling Prey, but I'm chugging through it. I'm cheating resources to give me lots of neuromods though, which works for me. This progression system gives me absolutely no clue as to what I can expect to be able to hit through normal play, so I'm trying to grab all the stuff that's interesting now.
Is Prey as good as the original? (Prey)
There were a couple of attempts to make a sequel, but they failed. Finally Arkane got it and did their own thing. The only reason it's called "Prey" now is because Bethesda had already bought the IP. I find it quite addictive, though a bit painful at times.

The numbers aren't pretty and there is no simple way to narrow that gap. As much as I sympathize with the Harvard situation (my students are in that demo) it is nowhere near as tragic as the educational disparities we have across this country.

Institutionalized? I don't buy it. Have the police started targeting white and asian people more than other races? Did the vast majority of the people in the government suddenly changed skin color? Are all the hedge fund managers, bankers, and CEO's being pushed out by minorities?
White oppression is a ridiculous narrative pushed by people who want to play the victim card. Given the election results, I'd think that'd be a hard one to push, but people keep trying.

None of whom are affiliated with the government of the US or the state of Virginia (except the cops who backed off at the first sign of trouble). 2k people in a country of 323M who protested no one that day. And one SOB in a car whose best case prospects is the rest of his natural life in state prison.

SEGA allowed Shenmue to be crowdfunded, and Obsidian knows how to make games on crowdfunding budget. May work or not, depends how many fans it really has.
Crowdfunding wouldn't come close to covering what the original cost to make though. Can't say I'd be too enthused at the idea. The game needs some real dollars thrown behind it.At this point I think a spiritual successor through crowdfunding would be the best way to go about it. I would hate to have a publisher attached to what essentially is a niche game trying to modernize it or make it more like something that sells. I already hate SquareEnix for doing that to Deus Ex.

Yes, it's a good question why they have all these surplus $750K MRAPs to give away, when supposedly they're critically short of money for training and maintenance. Although I suppose it's better than giving them to our "allies", so that they wind up in IS or Al Qaeda hands.
