  1. I believe Avowed is 1st/3rd person game like Grounded. As initially grounded was showed as 1st person on XO19 trailer and later it has the option of playing it also as 3rd person.

The only reason it will only be a 1st person if 3rd person gameplay affects the game design which at the moment it doesn't looks a main reason

Ha! In all serious folks, I absolutely love the work Obsidian do.

Fallout New Vegas and KOTOR2 are up there with my favourite games of all time, and I am currently addicted to The Outer Worlds.

The charm and personality that's being injected into Obsidian games is just phenomenal of late. Watched the trailer for Grounded and now i have to go get myself an xbox (steadfast ps4 gamer here)

Anyways thought I might share a link to some of my Outer Worlds fan art and there's also a link to my core art account as well if folks are interested.

Excited to be on the forums :)

Mate I have an Xbox and to be very honest Xbox Game pass is a must have subscription service.

  3. Tyranny is an amended version of XBOX ONE launch title Stormlands which got cancelled.

So we could expect that Obsidian will be making a spiritual successor for Tyranny and it could be multi platform (XBOX & PC).

But I don't think it could be isometric as it didn't do well, a 1st/3rd person game could be a possibility.

that sounded a little harsh, as we don't know what caused low deadfire sales. I like isometric view, but FPS is definitely not adequate.

The isometric view only appeals to likes of us who had played the crpgs in the 90's. People who started playing RPG from Fallout 3 to onward like 3rd person or 1st person games.

Its not bad to bring a change to the series as first two Fallout games were isometric and Fallout 3 was a full 3D with both 1st and 3rd person camera.

I could be wrong but in my view games like POE will do great in 3rd person camera prospective gameplay.

  5. Well we spent more or less than 30 mins to create our character for these games and love to see the player move in 3rd person camera prospect. Fallout and TES has the option of both 1st and 3rd person camera and recently RDR2 also have the same option.

I know that THE OUTER WORLDS is a low budget game so the production cost might exceeds the allocated budget but now Obsidian is owned by Micro$oft so we hope that the next iteration of the game is a true AAA RPG game.

Your entitled to your opinion. But it's definately a minority viewpoint.

Obsidian are not known for mediocre ganes. Obsidian are known as one of the best RPG devs in the west.

Something tells me more than likely your a very sad Bethesda fan. Who is so upset that Bethesda have gone so downhill that many don't want to support them anymore.

TOW is so much better than Fallout 4. The RPG mechanics are better. And the slow Mo is far superior to Vats.

But the biggest problem with Fallout is the writing. Obsidian writing is superb.

Please Obsidian don't be like Fallout. TOW is far superior as an RPG.

IMO the OP is either a PS fanboy or Bethesda Fanboy. What gives it away is the line that Obsidian are known for mediocrity. When that statement is totally false. Obsidian is synonymous with top drawer quality RPGs.

Either he's Annoyed that from here on all Obsidian RPGs will be Xbox exclusive or he's annoyed that so much hate is being piped on Bethesda lately. And people are much happier with The Outer Worlds.

90% of reviews say it's better than Fallout.

Mate can't disagree with you, my first impression was also same that either this guy is a PS fanboy or die heart Bethesda lover.

Well now, i always understood the problems with stability and the problem of surviving. I guess the stress can kill people over time. So i have never denied this problem, and that's why i supported Obs on Kickstarter and Fig. I even backed Pillars 2 while pretty convinced i will never play it (and in fact i never installed it).

But now, Feargus, you spend your time speaking about family, while pretending that one of the 4 bros never existed (Chris?). You spend your time talking about how great Microsoft is (we all know that they are gaming industry's philanthropist), explaining how they will give you money for games, stability, and technical expertise for development. That's all nice and great, but there is one thing that bothers me...

You never speak about what Obs will give Microsoft in return. Well, Ensemble Studios gave them their skin and their life, after all. I believe that if you don't bother to speak about it, it's because it's only obvious and does not need an explanation. Please, take note: i'm only trying to be rationnal here. Still, i just can't see any other reason why this question is not tackled, and since this one (the answer is obvious and does not need explanation) makes sense, i will say "Ok". But now, if the answer is obvious, that should mean that in order to understand the answer to this question (what Obsidian will give Microsoft in return), we have to look at how Microsoft and the gaming industry work as a whole. Especially when a studio which is struggling to survive as an independant company is bought by a bigger fish.

Ok, i explored my memory a bit, tried to use wikipedia and some other websites and skimmed through things again. Well. From there, this is all about my own feelings regarding this. And feelings can't be explained rationaly or demonstrated, so i won't claim i'm talking the truth or predicting accurately the future. I'm not God.

So, my feelings are... I don't buy any of this bull****. Microsoft changes, cuts anything that may not bring enough money for their tastes, and closed quite a few studios they bought (Ensemble being only the most famous for me). And you know it full well Feargus. What's more, you're trying to strike a chord in the people who trusted Obsidian but are rightfully defiant of Microsoft, emphasizing family, passion, freedom, legacy and crap like that. There is no freedom or legacy when everything you created becomes immediately the property of someone else, nor their is family. The way this video is made only awakes some memories i have of others developers in the past spouting the same things with the results i know. It almost feels to me that Microsoft bought the successful Kickstarter trio (Double Fine (2019) inXile (2018), Obsidian (2018)) precisely because their crowfunding successes guaranteed their images were good in the customer eyes, and Microsoft now tries to benefit indirectly from that. What, do they think trust can be bought? And you Feargus, that trust can be sold?

Even if i were to be mistaken, and the fact that these 3 studios were bought by MoneySoft is actually a really good thing, i don't live in fantasy world. There are always counterparts to everything. For anything you get, you need to abandon something. Life is just like that. The fact that you spent 6 minutes spouting that just about everything was wonderful and for the best only makes it sound more fishy to me.

I agree with you on most of the points but there are some real issues we need to understand. Pillars 2 from Obsidian & Bards Tale from Inxile didn't do well commercially and there was no guarantee that The Outer Worlds and Wastelands 3 could preform well. Its not easy to make a game and more difficult to produce financially.

Let me be a devil advocate first:

If Microsoft wants to force Obsidian to make a looter shooter then they could bought Gear Box or any other studio who has an expertise in making a looter shooter or the next 343 and Collation game would be a looter shooter instead of Gears & Halo. As the next gen console are on the horizon and Microsoft didn't want to repeat the previous mistake by letting Sony play without any competition so they are focusing on what Sony strength is which is Single player games. Microsoft knows that they are lacking Single person story driven games and they need it in their inventory so when someone is going to buy a new console it will be difficult decision for make. In my view Microsoft bought Obsidian, Inxile & Ninja Theory for story driven single player games and the new Studio Initiate would also focus on single player the team they are hiring has a background of these games. Plus due to game pass Microsoft need content to sell the service and to have content they need a good amount of in house studio to produce.

Now on the other side of the coin:

Now let's consider Microsoft didn't bought Obsidian and one day you wake up and heard news that Obsidian is closed due to Bankruptcy is this fine for you. Let say Microsoft do the same with Obsidian which EA did to BioWare (I am not taking your example of Ensemble as it is a different story) then we loose interest in Obsidian games and Microsoft has to close the studio or ask them to make what they are best know for.

So in my opinion support Obsidian as long as they are making content which they are know for and Microsoft will know that it is in their benefit to let Obsidian do what they want.

Maybe Microsoft daddy wants to know the ages of the Obsidian community. If we skew too old then Pillars 3 will be a shallow live service looter shooter designed with a phone first approach. Maybe. Get that "whatever the name of that game that's filling Epic's mattress" money.

    DM7LijrUQAAZpXx.jpg:large

Then again, maybe not. I dunno.

Please don't BioWare Obsidian, Microsoft daddy.

I was also thinking the same that the next Obsidian game will be a looter shooter but my friend(who is a Sony Fanboy) told me that if Microsoft really wants to make a looter shooter then they bought Gear Box or ask 343 or Collation to make a looter shooter. They bought Obsidian because of what Obsidian is for not to make them what MS desire.

Is he right or wrong I don't know but what ever he said makes seance.

  9. Well every company has their own philosophy to operate their business.

Xbox was never considered a bread & butter stuff for Microsoft and will not be for them as they have lots of other accounts but currently we have seen that they are investing money in their GAME developing department either buying or opening new Studios.

There are many friends saying I can play Microsoft game on PC, mate you are wrong you can only play these games on XBOX and WINDOWS, both are Microsoft platform.  Microsoft doesn't care either you play on XBOX or on WINDOWS as long as your preferred platform is owned by MS.

This is why they introduce play any where, game pass ultimate and Xcloud, the way they operate it never looked that they consider Sony & Nintendo as their competitor but want to be in GAME business through different points.
