  1. what are your specs? I've got a pretty recent machine and load times are generally pretty fine, only the first time i load a save or continue the game is the longest and it's not really long enough that i would get annoyed or something. it's installed on a regular drive not a SSD though.

the wonderful backgrounds/locations are one of the main drawcards of the game, I don't think it would be good to change that to 3D environments at all.

  2. "look at me I'm so l33t and hardcore and cool, let's bag this game out because it will show you how I'm so l33t and hardcore"

It seems like a bit of a whine-fest...

Look I'm enjoying the game and I probably wasn't the real 100% target demographic for it. I'm partway through act 2 so I don't know if I've met all companions and that yet. I'm not the type to really delve deep into systems and stuff, at least not straight away, and I'm not going to say everything is perfect and rosy but some of this just looks like being negative for negative's sake:

"Compare that to the priest that melts in any melee, whose damage spells are lacklustre, and who can drop a few buffs before standing in a corner and being useless."

Durance is the priest in my band and he is far from useless to me. He holds his own in melee and his spells and buffs are really important in keeping everyone alive and making the enemies less effective.

" in BG/IWD, if a dude broke through to hack up your mages, you could cast hold person and be done with him. In PoE, not so much."

There is actually a spell which does exactly this, what is he talking about?

"When you see for the nth time the same mob of trolls, followed by the same mob of ooze repeated 5 times over during the course of one dungeon, you know you are in for a treat. And in PoE, this happens all the bloody time, with some particular offenders being, for example, the Temple of Skaen under Dyrford that has literally the same friggin’ cultist mob copypasted all over the place some twenty times."

Not sure about this one, is he saying he wants 1 of every single enemy type for every encounter? I don't get it. In KOTOR when you go into the spider infested cave, you fight the spiders...When you travel around Dantooine and hear there are kath hounds on the loose acting erratically, you fight the kath hounds.

"In the IE games, if you weren’t resting after every fight, you had to carefully consider using every healing potion and spell, and memorise cure spells for poisons, diseases, etc, to manage your global party health reserves. This literally never happens in PoE. All ill effects end after every fight, all endurance regens back to full, all fallen party members rise as if nothing happened."

There are areas where you can't rest, and when you get knocked out you lose health and your max endurance can drop too. To me that means the opposite of being careless because characters can definitely die.

Anyway I can't be bothered with any more, I'm sure others who are more knowledgeable and passionate can debate both sides.

  3.  Free your mind and let go of the past, accept the mechanics and figure out ways to use them, and things will get a lot more enjoyable.

It almost sounds like some of these complaints are because people are too used to other games, want this to be the same or still think it is, and aren't able to or don't want to change or adjust accordingly to the new system.

  4. At first I was a pretty staunch defender of this game and it's changes to the IE style, but the closer I get to the end, the harder it becomes for me to even want to boot this game up and complete it.

There have been many people suggesting that the combat quickly becomes formulaic and follows a flowchart of - Sneak -> Position -> Tank and Spank and win

This is pretty much the case. Once you get a full party and get into the mid game, this is what every combat encounter becomes. Sensuki said it best in another topic that there is no dynamic shift or any strategy involved, it's just a set of motions that you go through almost every fight, you don't have to adapt to combat at all, because once your Tank is engaged with the mob of dumb enemies up front, you simply lay down all the AoE CC you have and you move onto the next exact same group battle. It's the same thing, over and over again.

So how did you do fights like the first level of the lighthouse in Ondra's Gift? Or any fight then?

How do you 'tank and spank' when enemies come at you from different directions and don't attack the 'tank'?

I'm really curious because I find quite a few fights challenging and satisfying when I eventually win. What are these people who complain the game is too easy etc doing differently, or just doing, that makes it so easy?

What am I not doing that I should be?

  5. So are you saying you want it to be harder to find a quest related person, or that you wish the non-quest related people had more to offer, or both?

Why would you want to make it harder somehow to find the person you are looking for? Having to click on everyone in a city or tavern or area or whatever would just make it stupidly annoying. I don't need a floating exclamation point but the way it is now is fine.

Having more things for non-important NPC's to say would be nice, but that would probably just come down to budget and time.

  6.

I don't think anything about it is cost effective, except the bounties, but it is an ok base of operations.

So what would be the point of hiring any hirelings then? Or rebuilding things that don't have a function beyond prestige/security and cosmetics?

Well when I first got a notification that shadows and lurkers were going to attack, I tried to fight them and got trounced. I re-loaded a save, hired a bunch of guys and did 'auto resolve' and they won but a couple died. So I thought maybe this would make it easier to take care of attacks if my party can't do it. Then some other bandits tried to attack, I did auto resolve and they all died and now my main keep and something else has been destroyed. I gotta spend and wait to build that again? argh :p

  7. I know some are disappointed with the map, but what is the rest like?  Mouse pad? T-shirt, the box itself?

the actual box is great! a tad bare and empty though... mouse pad feels really nice although a slightly larger one would have been fantastic. i'm using it now instead of my starcraft 2 one. t-shirt is 100% cotton which means at least i can wear it, plain black with logo on it. postcard is a postcard and patch is a patch. notepad looks nice with different characters on the pages.

i think at the time i backed it i really struggled with deciding over the $140 tier or a digital one. i really like the concept of some of the collector's edition of games but i'm not sure now if it was really worth it compared to others. it may be apples and oranges but i feel like i got more out of the collectors edition for tales of monkey island, witcher 2, starcraft 2 heart of the swarm, mass effect 3 n7 edition and the upcoming witcher 3. partly this could be because of unfinished items; you get the box, but no actual game, novella or documentary but also a lot of the bonus 'collectors' content is still digital only.

  8. Hi, I got my collector's edition today and I have to add disappointment with the map. I cannot actually make out some of the place names. It just looks fairly blurry and low-res :(

I don't have maps from the other old games that were inspiration but that's part of the reason I went for this tier. it seemed like the guys wanted to bring back some of that old essence and magic and things they used to like from that era, so I thought it would be cool to get a taste. i don't think it was great value.

  9. I just recently finished a playthrough, I think my second. I would love another Alpha Protocol! I think the positives really outweigh the negatives. I've got it on PS3 and just bought it recently on Steam as well, I don't recall encountering any bugs at all really.

I enjoyed the banter of the characters and the sort of more grown up style of conversation/morality system where it isn't good vs evil or right vs wrong, just different.

Were the shooting mechanics still based on dice rolls behind the scenes? If they change that to a more traditional shooting mechanic I think it would be improved.

Anyways I guess we are all just hoping and speculating at the moment...

  10.

Adding in minor bestiary, exploration, lock, and trap XP rewards to increase the regularity of XP rewards across the game.

Josh's solution is rewarding Xp for opening locks and disabling traps.. the one thing from Baldurs Gate 2 nobody wanted to see make a return.

    What the hell just happened?

huh? I want xp for opening locks and traps...i mentioned it in one of those threads too. why is it retarded?

this game gets patched slower than a crippled sloth wading through tar. hey obsidian, when can we play the game your internal people get to play?

They have a vested interest in this game being better, and in the forums giving feedback and new ideas, they're obviously using the time for a reason. Maybe because everyone expects a significant jump in quality per patch, and they want to deliver that.

Nope, they just don't really see the BB as particularly important. I'm not being grumpy or facetious, I honestly think it was a stretch-goal gimmick that is now a pesky afterthought.

Not sure if serious or not.....

Obsidian often cops flak for having buggy games released, if they have a chance to both a) let the people who helped make this game possible in the first place play it early and see what it is like and b) get these people playing and testing the game on a wide range of machines and hardware why would they pass on it?? I'm sure this is helping them immensely.
