  1. Hey guys,

So, now that we have all of the expansions, I was thinking of (finally) starting on my 'main' playthrough with my Mindstalker melee Cipher build (Trickster/Soul Blade) - Buuut, I noticed the Psion subclass was a recent addition to the game, and I was wondering how that would stack up compared to Soul Blade in a melee Cipher build?

  2. Basically you didn't have anything attaching your lootlist to that store. Check the tutorial here for more info on how to add items to a store: https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/105275-tutorial-adding-items-to-a-store-v210/

I knocked up a quick script and it worked in my game- it checks that Marihi's Metalworks Store is in the scene, if it is then it adds your lootlist to the store. I also moved the "n_devil_quest_state" check from your lootlist to the scripthook; I couldn't figure out the right number for the quest state so I set it to 2 (devil spared harmke) but then below that put "Not": true instead of "Not": false and that seemed to do the trick. Anyway, I've attached the file, give it a shot!

Edit: whoops, took a couple of tries to attach

Nice, thank you! That actually makes it a lot easier than finding out the right quest state.

  3. Hey guys! So, I tested my mod - it's supposed to spawn a new version of the DoC breastplate with different flavor text in Marihi's Metalworks if you had her spare Harmke. I tested it tonight (Used F11 to cheat myself into Marihi's right after the character creation on a fresh character who'd picked that PoE1 choice) and couldn't find it for sale, or in her chest.

Can someone with a little more experience double check my work and make sure I did everything right? I know I /made/ the item, I can console it into the game, so I think it's something to do with the loot list.

    DoC Breastplate On Killing Harmke_V2.1.zip

  4. Hey guys!

With some help from people on the modding subforum, I've put the finishing touches on a mod that'll allow for the DoC Breastplate to be available at Marihi's Metalworks when killing Harmke, with different flavor text. My reason for doing this is that I want a better outcome for her, while the powergamer in me still wants access to one of the best pieces of armor in the game for a melee DPS character.

I have flavor text written for it already, but the English major in me is always a critic of my own work, so I was hoping to get some feedback on it/ways it could be revised. English only for now, since this is mostly just a mod for my own personal use.

"After finding peace beneath the ocean waves, the empty shell that once housed the Devil of Caroc was discovered on the sea floor some time later. It seems that at least one industrious smith saw some use for her remains. This bronze breastplate was forged from the Devil’s chest piece, brass buckles, and rivets from her various clockwork mechanisms. While her soul has doubtless departed, the remains are not wholly inanimate. The metal, no longer a prison for the soul, nevertheless seems to have been infused with life force and retains some power."

It's pretty much just the same thing, with the first few sentences changed.

    Some immediate issues...

    1. How were the Devil's remains found?

    2. Is there a better way to phrase the first bit to be a little more specific to what happened to the Devil in her more positive ending? I've considered something like "After her long wanderings led to her finding peace beneath the waves..." or something like that.

  5. Overall, looks pretty good. I'm not in a place in game that I can test your changes though.

Here's a zip with three changes:

Deleted a hanging comma on line 136

Changed the file extension to "gamedatabundle" instead of "json"

Added an items.stringtable for you to work with

Don't worry about compressing your files or changing them back to that less readable format. They work just fine like this.

Alright - So, the item exists. The only problem is that I think it might conflict with the Devil of Caroc Breastplate (Since there's two different items with the same name). I tried calling the original in the console, but it wouldn't work. This shouldn't be the case in a normal save, I hope?

Here's the completed version with the proper text, for further testing. I'm going to be busy throughout today so if someone wants to test it to make sure it works the way it's supposed to on a "Killed Harmke" save, I'd appreciate it.

Also, if anyone has any better ideas for the flavor text, I'd like to hear them. I'm going to be tweaking that on and off, because I'm not entirely satisfied with it.

Thank you! Is there a way I can use the console to load into Marihi's Metalworks without having to do Port Maje again, to test that it works?

  7. Alright, I tried compressing my mod. Can someone have a look at it and make sure the code looks right and I didn't put a comma somewhere it's not supposed to be? Also, for the stringtable, is that something I have to make fresh? I'm reading the tutorial, and having a bit of trouble wrapping my head around what it's supposed to look like.

Also, if someone wouldn't mind testing to make sure that "1" is the Devil_Quest_Stage value for her having killed Harmke, I'd appreciate it.

  8. Hey guys!

So, I'm working on my first mod - it's intended to make the Devil of Caroc Breastplate available upon killing Harmke. I've hit a bit of a snag, though, and would like some help with a few things.

    1. Can someone show me where to upload my WIP files so they're accessible for people to edit to make sure I haven't blown something up, and to test it to make sure it does what it's supposed to do? I tried attaching it to this post, but it wouldn't let me.

    2. I'm not sure how to make an items.stringtable; I need to do this for my new description for the DoC Breastplate (To reflect the change on killing Harmke and getting a different ending for the character). Can someone talk me through how to do that?

I tried, but it says I can't upload "This kind of file."

  10.

You can get the B-plate pretty early and for free. It will you help smoothen some of the fights at around 9-13 lvl. After that you'll have plenty of other options you can consider.

Hard to get it at level 9, no? My expenditures are so heavy - with little cash incoming that early!

You can steal it really easily.

  11. Hey guys,

So... I really want to kill Harmke in my PoE1 save. I know it has no effect on the game and no one reacts to it, but from a narrative perspective, I just like the idea since I feel like he deserves it. The problem is, unless I mod it, which takes work, that robs me of the Devil of Caroc Breastplate, which is considered one of the best pieces of armor in the game for what it is.

My question though is... Is it?

I've asked about comparisons with other particular armors (Gipon Prudensco and Miscreant's) before, but are there any other options that more or less just do what the DoC does, but just not as good? In the long run, since I'll be playing a Mindstalker, how necessary is the +2 Power Pool (That's only one Devastating Blow/Llengrath's Displaced Image)?

  12. I killed him even with my benevolent character. He deserved it. :fdevil:

    Honestly, he does.

One of the main reasons I want to redo the flavor text for the DoC BP is because I genuinely hate the implications that

A: Sparing him just leads her to kill a bunch of people indiscriminately.

B: This doesn't bring her any sort of satisfaction, so she just eventually rusts to a stop (Somehow, despite the metal she's made of not being capable of rusting) and gets torn apart by angry villagers while screaming internally.

Admittedly I could get that by just killing him and /not/ getting the Breastplate, but that's what mods are for. At some point, I'll be working on one that'll allow me to get it by killing him, too.

  13. I was actually going to say that faction quests are the large majority of this game - as a fan of said game. A big part of that is because so many elements of the game have *some* tie to one or more factions, though. E.g. I would count the Wahaki as faction related.

That said, there are a decent number of little, completely side things on the smaller islands you explore. And at least a few side quests (also small ish) with little to no relation.

I would just recommend that you save every time before you talk to a faction leader, because eventually they will ask you to do a quest that locks you out from everyone else, and you'll miss out on content at that point. The best way to get the most content, *I think*, is to remain *technically* faction less until the end game.

Edit : Also, avoid Ashen Maw until you've done most of the content.

Thanks. I was mostly planning on rushing the Principi quest (Since you can install a leader without locking yourself into their faction) and getting the sabre Aeldys gives you for siding with her, then going back and tackling some of the other ones. My plan is ultimately to side with the Vailians.

  14. I don't think 3.0 will break anything so definitely get started on it now.

To find the variable that corresponds to killing Harmke, just look in the items.gamedatabundle for "carocbreastplate". That should take you to the script for adding the breastplate to the lootlist. You'll see the variable is called devil_quest_stage. The tricky part is the number- "2" means she spared Harmke, but I don't know what number would mean she killed him. Maybe 3, maybe 1, you may have to experiment a bit.

Copy "store_05_AD_marihi_carocbreastplate" into your mod file, give it a new UUID (check out peardox's pinned "first mod" thread for any help you need getting started) and first try playing around with the values on the script- try changing that 2 to a 1 or 3, then load up a save where the Devil killed Harmke and see if the breastplate appears. If it does then you're ready for the next step:

Copy the DoC breastplate item into your mod folder, give it a new UUID, and put that UUID where the current DoC breastplate UUID is in the lootlist script. That way you have a new item which is identical to the DoC breastplate, and the script will add your item instead of the main game one. Then just write a new description in your mod's items.stringtable, give it a number, and replace the number 4376 in the breastplate's descriptiontext with the number of your description

Thanks! This doesn't seem... all that bad, really. I'll start working on it after work today.

  15. Hey guys!

So, I want to try to make a mod that I've been poking around about on the forums by myself, rather than bother other people about it. I have a rough idea of what I need to do, but less of an idea of how to do it and how to get the information I need. So, I have a few questions.

    1. Should I wait until 3.0 drops to start this? I'm not sure if the rule is "Every patch breaks old mods" or "Only patches that affect your specific mod's changes break old mods." I figure it's best to err on the side of caution.

What I want to do specifically is create a loot entry for Marihi's Metalworks that checks the "Kill Harmke" conditional in an exported PoE1 save to spawn a separate version of the Devil of Caroc Breastplate for those who want a happy ending for her, like me. People have said that I need to...

    2. Find the specific variable that corresponds to killing or sparing Harmke. I'm not sure what this one is.

    3. Create an entry in the loot list for Marihi's Metalworks that checks for that variable (Though I'd want to make sure it spawns in the same chest, so not sure how to do that), OR change the existing entry to check for the opposite variable.

    4. Change the flavor text of the item itself to match the new information.

OR, I could just keep everything else the same and just change the flavor text, since the particulars of the event aren't referenced in any significant way. That would probably be considerably easier, though it's essentially rewriting her ending from the first game.

So... could someone talk me through how best to find the particular variable and what exactly I need to change/how I need to set up the code in the mod folder? Ultimately, just changing the flavor text and leaving everything else the same would be the easiest thing to do.

  16. Why pick between these two when Miscreant's with Abraham is better for this character?

Pale Elves with bare sleeves just look weird to me. Aesthetics is a big part of the decision.

Why pick between these two when Miscreant's with Abraham is better for this character?

Nah DoC >> Miscreant in most cases.

Hmm. Is that just for the +2 Guile, or do the armor bonuses matter more on their own?

  17. Hey guys,

Having a bit of trouble deciding what armor I want to use for my melee Mindstalker (Soulblade/Trickster) build for the bulk of the game. So far, it's a choice between:

    1. Devil of Caroc Breastplate: My go-to for most builds, though the +2 Power Source doesn't matter as much in a melee/caster multi. Also, I don't really need that much Guile per-combat, only three for my main buffs. At level 20, it's 11 Guile compared to 9. The Recovery Speed buff is also nice, but I'm not sure how mandatory it is precisely. It's also got more armor on it overall. Plus it can be acquired super early.

    2. Gipon Prudensco: Definitely wins from an aesthetic perspective, and that's important. I wouldn't be as durable as I would be wearing the DoC BP, but then I have Body Attunement. Grants Inspirations upon starting combat, as well as immunity to flanked or immunity to disengagement attacks, but not both. Takes a tough ship battle to get, though.

Any other good choices? I'm leaning toward just using Miscreant's until I'm strong enough to get Gipon.

  18. Hey guys!

So... This is the very last decision I'm struggling with for my current character's background (Yes, I make a new one for each character). Basically, I'm torn between killing Harmke in a roleplay sense because it makes sense for my character to want to help the Devil of Caroc, and because I, personally, consider the ultimate fate for her if you don't do that to be REALLY depressing, and sparing him (While coming up with some reasoning why in-character) for one of the best pieces of armor in the game. I'm probably one of the only people who genuinely thinks about this THAT hard, but I'm hoping to get a good discussion going about the rationale behind either choice.

Notably, the character I'm playing is NOT a murderhobo - They're a Cipher/Rogue who prefers a subtler touch to resolving most conflicts - but they would have felt sympathy for the Devil of Caroc since they have a soft spot for families because of their own unpleasant upbringing.

  19.

Thanks a lot i wasnt aware that its shown in the weapon tool tip. 17% for Mails thats probably the best pet in the game.

I still don't see the reduction on the tool tip for Abraham.

The math is already done for you - it's like Armored Grace. Look at the Armor recovery penalty, it should be lower.

  20. I carried my godlike pirate over from PoE 1. He had a Deadfire culture before PoE 2 was announced so I was excited about how that would play out.

From what I can tell the game acts that having the Deadfire culture means you're a Huana. As, even natives of the Deadfire, but who's ancestry came from Old Vailia, or wherever are still considered culturally whatever their ancestors were.

It's clear that as the Deadfire's lore got fleshed out it turned into that the Deadfire was mostly Islander Aumaua. This is obvious as Naasitaq was considered part of the Deadfire, but now it's mostly refereed to as its own region (crew mates from Naasitaq have that listed as their culture rather then Deadfire). This has made RPing my character confusing as in my mind he was born from human parents but were from the Deadfire. I suppose if I want to RP him as a human pirate-type I should be from Old Vailia, as that's the cultural background of the pirate faction? I'd love feedback and ideas from yall :D

Aside from the (Admittedly very jarring) Huana comments, I feel like you can still get a lot of mileage out of being from the Deadfire if you want to play a pirate type character. After all, the "Raider" background option is only available to Deadfire characters (Unless you use a mod), and most of the interactions can be read from a perspective of you being there long enough to know the culture/have picked up a bit of the language.

  21. Hey guys,

So, part of the enjoyment if the game for me is definitely playing with really cool and powerful weapons, some of the best of which come at the end of the faction quests. That said, I'm kind of worried about not having a whole lot to do after getting the best stuff. Would what's left after almost completing one faction quest chain enough to provide a meaty and story rich experience?
