  1. American accents are very dull and boring as it is, having to listen to them yet again in a video game is just torture. And its completely out of place, even for colonies. Imagine if BG1 or BG2 had such low quality accents, how would you have been able to immerse into the game? Imagine if Sarevok spoke with the dull american accent, would you have played the game and subsequently played all its babies like POE?

There are many youtubers who post vids them playing POE who have a much more appropriate voice/accent than many of the voices in the game. I dont think its a budget problem, its something else

as a person who works every single day with lots of Brits, I can say that nothing is more boring than a pretend fantasy person speaking like they're in a high shool production of Macbeth.

maybe consider that what is boring to you, will actually be refreshing for a whole bunch of people.

and also tell me this - what makes you an authority on how kith from Eora should speak? do you have a degree in Eora linguistics and phonetics? have you created this world and can speak with confidence about how an Island Aumaua raised in the Ixamitl Plains or whatever would sound? what exactly does "appropriate" mean in this concept?

Man I managed to save Pallegina's friend but my god I don't think I could've did it without 2 mages. The cc was soooo necessary to keep him from being one shot.

There are easier ways to do it - https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/99140-a-man-of-chimes-quest-how-do-i-save-giacolo/?p=2019569

Dang it if only I didn't hate dragging Xoti around.

Giacolo would gladly sacrifice himself to spare you the pain of taking Xoti out on a mission.

you have nothing to be sorry about.

Nah my PC and Aloth managed to CC the whole room long enough for Pallegina, Eder and Takehu to clean up.

Oh, nice job. Giacolo died in my game, but I feel like Pallegina appreciated that we tried at least.

I really like having talks with her in this game. She kinda steals the shows, when it comes to companions.

  4. Wait I want to make sure I understand.

An American accent is immersion breaking, but a Latin, Italian, or English accent are perfectly fine?

    Okayyyyyyy......

You can't have it both ways.  If one real world accent is immersion breaking, so are the rest of them.  Don't confuse their accent with just average or poor VO.

by that logic I should've spent the last couple of years raging about Pallegina's faux-Italian accent. and then she has a faux-Italian accent but she's black in pseudo-medieval times and she's in a fantasy video game and she has feathers... I cannot suspend my disbelief that far, the accent has GOT TO GO.

people get hung up on the silliest things sometimes.

    ---edit---

    cannot spell.

I would just straight up not buy this game, if Durance were in it.

I'd just sacrifice him and get a cool effigy. As it is Maia's gonna have to be it.

I'd call you a fiery whore of a player for sacrificing Maia, but that might be against forum policy. So I will not call you that.

If I sacrifice anyone from the party, it's Xoti. I like the rest too much.

  6. Yeah, the gods did Pallegina wrong and then she learns that they are a total sham anyway, I don't think she cares how she comes off or she is too angry to see that the way she behaves won't change anything.

    Nor should she care.

    I get her.

    ---EDIT---

It's just that Pallegina has been othered by everyone in her life, her entire life. She owes no explanations. If she went around murdering innocents, I'd still be able to find sympathy for her - because it'd be the cruel world who'd turn her to that. But still she's trying to be a force for order and betterment of others. I dig Pallegina.

I can forgive Pallegina for her attitude toward the gods. Mostly because my Watcher knows her, but also know her and I know her story and her pain and I get her.

That's the thing, really - you know her. To an average Eoran, she comes off as completely insane. Case in point: Tekehu's reaction to her meltdown during the whole figurine thing.

It's reasonable to agree with Pallegina's views, yes. Still, despite her full knowledge of the status quo, she consistently chooses horrible and tone-deaf ways of communicating them to people.

To be perfectly honest, I can relate. I come off as an insane person a lot. Representation matters.

if people loved Hiravias as much as they love Eder, he'd suddenly have a reason to show up in the Deadfire, believe you me.

As someone who liked Hiravias, I'll just go and cry in the corner over there :D Here's hoping for some sort of cameo in future dlc's.

I like him, too! I also love love love Sagani. They're just not really sequel material, if you know what I mean.

Well Eder is iconic so he has a high chance of reappearing.

Devs didn't choose returning companions for their iconic status but by who had the most sense to be in Deadfire. Eder because of Eothas, Aloth because of his unfinished business with the Leaden Key, Pallegina because of VRC.

and the fact that those three are the most liked and most iconic characters from POE1 did not hurt.

Maia is a soldier with a sense of patriotic duty - I can dig that, even if I profoundly disagree with her actions, I do see the reason behind them. Maia is sane and she is right (from her point of view, even if mine is different).

Xoti is... I have no freaking idea what she is, other than extra horny.

  11. I think part of my fondness of Xoti is that I like her voice actress, Laura Bailey. Even with that wild southern accent, I find her character to be endearing. But yeah, my character isn't particularly fond of the gods, so it's usually a groan when she starts on about Gaun. I'm still in Act 1, so I'm hoping there's some way to either nudge her against them, or at very least make her question them, similar to Eder. But I'm not sure where the story goes with Eothas, so I guess I'll see.

I found Xoti to be very endearing at the beginning. And I will admit that what soured me on her was the fact that she seemed to think she was in a love triangle with the Watcher and Eder when neither was actually interested in her. Which was probably the bugs.

Doesn't change the fact that I gave her the boot as soon as Maia and Pallegina became available, because hello, sane ladies who kick ass.

  12. Oh..

didn't mean anything . You can like whoever you want .

Just personally , I find pallagina kinda of an ass . And I do love Xoti .

I understand why Pallagina hate the gods and everything . But the fact remain , she work for the devil regardless . (In my opinion that is) .

In comparaison , Xoti is a saint . She is trying to do good (well unless you push her to do bad) .

I still like Pallagina as a character , it just if I were to choose who to save ? she will lose .

I didn't mean anything by anything as well, no worries. :)

Xoti so far infuriates me. I guess it'll be different once I RP a different personality on my next playthrough. And once a patch, hopefully, fixes the relationship progression.
