  1. I personally like to multi with druid. The classes do well together because the wiz part can provide buffs and the druid part rounds out the wizard's arsenal with hard cc and heals. The large amount of different spells make you very flexible, so that you're able to act on any situation. You can heal (druid side, shift if needed for large PL bonus) deal damage (wizard side, DoT's from druid) and cc.

It's nice if you like a backline, tactical role for your main character.

  2.

If you can't land a debuff then you also can't land a normal hit, right?

    It's always the same:

Buff your ACC in order to land a debuff which lowers the defenses in order to deal more damage. The road to victory. Everything else is just fooling around (just my opinion).

That's the reason why modals like Body Blows, Bewildering Blows and such are so powerful. -25 to a defense is great.

One example: Geomancer with a club or Willbreaker, Stalker's Link and all the other ACC stuff, Miasma, Eldritch Aim, Concelhaut's Draining Touch and Essential Phantom can reliably buff his ACC so he can reliably debuff enemies' Will by 65+ and then let the Phantom crit the enemy to death with endless draining touches which target will. You can overcome every defense in the game with this because it has a) ACC buff, b) defense debuff and c) means to deal damage. If you can achieve the same with other combos you win. There are other ways to win - but in my opinion those three steps are the quintessence of PoE combat. Who doesn't buff + debuff makes combat more difficult. Which might be intended...

or you could just grind everything down with Brand Enemy, Gouging Strikes, Summons, endless renewable resources, and sheer tankiness, and add in a monk or two if you encounter an endlessly regenerating enemy (and there's only one or two in the game).

Who needs offense when you have defense and eternal and renewable DOTs? Who cares if your damage and accuracy is low, if your enemy can never kill you and you can slowly kill them?

it doesn't matter if you miss 80% of the time and underpenetrate because even if you do an average of 2 damage per attack, you'll still eventually win (just turn the game speed to fast) because they can't kill you.

Christ dude stop this crap. You are flooding the forums with cheese tactics EVERYBODY ALREADY KNOWS. Move on.

  3. Yeah in my mind Tekehu is the only companion that is flat out better than even created characters. Love having him round out my teams as he can fill so many roles (even within the same battle!), heals, blinds, stubs, shield cracks, even AOE nukes with storms plus upgraded Lord Darryns Voulge.

PLUS YOU CAN HAVE SEX WITH HIM

I actually go out of my way to create a custom character who I cheat to be tekehu's classes - just so i dont have to deal with his gayness. For me, Obs did a horrible job with the new companions.

On topic; there are 6 types of afflictions (1 for each attribute and in 3 varieties of potency) and then a handfull of other usefull debuffs. They definitely make a large impact on your battles. Perhaps if your party comp relies less on summoning, you could see their potential more clearly.

  4.

No question to it. I'm playing on path of damned and my team consists of 2 ghost heart rangers, 2 chanters and a priest. I'm level 5 and already defeated 3xred skull enemies like some weird wizard with book of storms, some pirate dude with some crazy loot and a steel preacher. Now my team has superb tier weapons and armor already. Nothing to it, I like challenge but I think chanter summons are op. It's because you can do them when in stealth mode and you can do them indefinitely. My team's weakest link is the priest. His spells are finite per battle and often the offensive spells miss because it's always accuracy vs whatever roll. Fights last sometimes very long time, a lot of damage gets dealt back and forth but in the end, priest spells are finite but chanters can just keep on casting and healing. They even get a revive ability.

So what are priests needed for?

    Buffing

Quite fun till you get Arcane Dampener spammed on you.

    That too.

It's a very broken skill though. In most battles the enemy mage casts it right away, with no time to even interrupt it (0.4sec cast time). That needs patching. Either less long lasting, or hefty casttime, or a limit to how many beneficial effects it can negate.

  5. What I don't see mentioned yet is that there are items that you can equip that will provide constant healing like the troll belt. The only monk I usually include is Xoti and I equip her with the Chromoprismatic Quarterstaff, mythic of course. This time, though, she is Contemplative.

Yeah good point. Theres also troll hide cape, ring of regen, leandras devotion, blackened plate armor,fleshmender.. im probably missing a few.

And weapons that heal on crit; aldris blade, sanguine sword.

  6.

Indeed, some crazy slow fights, but in my opinion, they are what matters. Also, XY spell casts tell little about let's say power potential because while it is nice to cast Infuse with Vital Essence, twice, does **** all direct damage. XY cast of any spell or group of spells. well, that is a different story, that is chanter. So again, yeah its nice to have wizard lagging the screen when killing trash but when it comes to crunch time Infuse with Vital Essence 2x will not cut it.

Most of the time 2x casts will work. The number of fights where that becomes an issue you could probably count on two hands at the very most. And those fights are so outside the norm of the game that they don't reside anywhere on the critical path to completion. (And in those cases you can still make it work with limited casts if you know how to make it work).

Personally I find boss fights to be the least interesting fights in the entire game. Mostly because there isn't a lot of creativity involved in beating a boss. Most of them are either straightforward or gimmick fights. There are not a lot of options for how to beat them due to the specific efficiency constraints with no catch up mechanics going on at all.

I like them! Creating a team for the regular fights - easy. For megaboss - quite hard. Team to efficiently do regular content and megabosses - harder :)

  7. Had lots of fun with Tactician/Trickster: https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/106911-theorycrafting-thoughts-on-new-classes-patch-40-beta/?p=2125759

Also been watching Victor Tactician/Bloodmage PotD solo run while playing Tactician/Steel Garrote myself and both are viable imo.

Can you elaborare on the synergies? Ill be playing a tactician/x solo potd next week :)

  8. If you play the game vanilla style and just follow the plot, I don't think there's gonna be any hard fights no matter what builds you use. But I went straight after the high level three red skull enemies. So you can tell that a priest can do this and that and has high damage if you choose some spells but for example the enemy Steel Preacher has like 500 hp and my characters do like 2 - 5 damage with the early game weapons, if they even hit. And steel preacher does 20 - 50 dmg blows, not to mention it has 5 followers around him aswell. The fight lasted I think few hours. How did I do it? I put 2 chanters in the opposite sides of the map, sending in summons. They slowly killed the followers and then I killed the steel preacher by spamming it with skeletons and whacking it to death with penetrating arquebus modal ability and a mace modal ability. All my priest did was shoot a crossbow for interrupts because he was out of spells so early.

Then, I killed a wizard who had book of storms. How? She killed or seriously injured most of her own skeletons with her spells that did insane damage. She was targetting my summons, which I had called in sneak mode.

I'm sure priest can be interesting and fun, but summon chanter is an abuse machine.

Going right for red skulls only tests a class' first few skills. Some shine early, some shine late. It doesn't tell you anything about a class' potential later on.

  9. So one more char does more than a single spell? Hm... What a ****ty character that must be... ;)

Apart from that: on PotD, Devotions for the Faithful, gained early by a single class priest, makes difficult encounters a lot easier. Not only does it give +10 stackable ACC and +4 MIG (+8 Fortitude) to your party but also -10 ACC and -4 MIG (-8 Fortitude) to your enemies. People like to overlook that.

And that's only one spell. In addition to that Priests can also heal, support in may different ways and be pretty good nukers, too - without the need to collect phrases first. So they can be used more "on point".

I mean Chanters are nice and all - but they can't do the same amount of on-demand support a priest can do. I never regret taking a priest. Actually I never regretted taking any class if I plan for its use correctly in the first place.

And even if I wanted to substitute a Priest with another class I wouldn't take yet another Chanter. I'd take a Druid. ;)

It doesnt stack with other flat +acc bonuses though. And its limited per encounter. And because of cast time and moving of allies and enemies its a hassle to use efficiently.

Devotions of the Faithful. 'Nuff said...

Also Barring Deaths door, Resurrection, etc. Suppress Affliction. Holy Radiance is still very nice as well as an oh **** button.

As long as i have a dedicated healer i dont need bdd, nor resurecction. These things are also limited, where a chanter/pala is not, nor pollen patch from a lifegiver.

Everything a priest does - others can do better.

I personally interpret "better" as easier as well, priest is a horrible class to use AI on. It's potency is larger if u micromanage it.

  10. Sounds great, good luck!

I've never had that problem with squishies being targeted, I actaually feel like enemy AI should do so more often. I usually go for 1 tank and others ranged, tank walks in first and all enemies typically stick to him.

Are those squishies you mention jn melee range? Perhaps the AI targeting squishies only goes off within an enemy's attack range?

  11. Lifegiver with spine is great. Combined with priest you can also take some fire spells (with ring of focused flame, magrans favor and sun and moon weapon set) so that you can do really nice dps as well. Besides the already amazing plague of insects and insect swarm, an improved Sunlance is great for priority single targets.

Keep in mind that you can shift for the extra healing pl, but not all healing spells are keyworded rejuvanation (garden of life). So those dont get a pl penalty after shifting either.

  12. Well, you have accumulated damage but ALSO "time spent in combat", IIRC. So if you note these two variables before your next fight, you should be able to calculate the dps for each char once the fight is over.

Yeah i've done it a few times but it's very time consuming :p

Anyway in the meantime I've posted this in the general discussion forum as a request to Obsidian: https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/107450-request-character-sheet-damage-done-reset/.

  13.

Thank you. I was also looking at some build guides.

In particular the burn baby burn and the Fate testarossa seem very fun.

I think I will take the following:

MC Burn baby burn build Paladin /monk

Tekehu as a frost and shock damage dealer? Maybe little shifter talents.

Xoti as my healer and support

Serafen as a Barb/Cypher DPS dual wield.

    Edér as Tank

Is this ok? Can those companions work together?

Any combination works really. Tekehu isnt a very good dps though, more heal/support.

Im a strong advocate of druid main cause you can control the field in so many ways

So I could make my MC in The Fate Testarossa.

But then I wouldnt need Tekehu. So i need a replacement.

I got a tank, a healer/debuff, DPS times 2 melee and spells. Maybe CC?

Tank + healer/support + debuffer + dps + dps works. You can try make 3 dps'ers with a few debuffspells. Cipher/berserker for instance is excellent DPS and can throw some debuffs as well. wizard/x is nice for selfbuffs and various debuffs, mutliclass with fighter (Aloth) or Ranger (Maia).

  14. Same concept. You look up the spell damage, casting time and recovery.

I guess it would be a rel. easy mod to display the dps numbers in the ability description or so.

There's far to be many variables to calc the damage of those aoe dot spells. Also- there's already a feature; the character record sheet.

It just needs a way to reset.
