  1. Pathfinder Kingmaker is one of the best CRPG ever, if you have several mods installed, better than Deadfire for sure.

However without the mod there is simply too much random design choices to bog my interest down.

It's the game makes me wonder what Obsidian would do if they can straight up adapt the DnD or Pathfinder system instead of coming up with their own. Because the strongest part of Kingmaker is straight up from the Pathfinder pnp game. All the things the designers added in was kind hit and miss.

  2. I can't use EGS because I'm Chinese. I do have a ton of games on Steam, I also have around a dozen on GoG.

The thing that worried(or angered) me most are the games EGS was pursing, they are mostly targeting the middle size and indie games, like Outer Worlds and Sinking City, not the big AAA big title. Majority of the "players" dont' really care(or even heard of) about these smaller games, but for me(and I imagine a lot of people here as well) these are the most interesting games out there. They are more driven by the creativity of the developers, instead of coporation's desire for profit.

The ones that get hurt the most, are the ones that actually really enjoying playing video games., not the casual gamers. At this rate soon I'll have no game left to play because AAA titles are all going to be loot shooters and the indie games and middle size games are all EGS exclusive.

Too tempting, they are handing out sweet deals like there is no tomorrow. On the whole though, if the STEAM monopoly breaks, that's not a bad thing. Competition and all. It's going to make STEAM better too.

That's not how competition works. EGS wasn't making their platforms better, they are just throwing money away to get market share, and they will get these money back when they get enought market share, from the consumers. It's not competition they want, it's monoploly.

Sure, same as everyone. I'm pretty sure that's what competition is. No one is doing anything out of the goodness of their hearts.

The problem is EGS are not using a better product to compete and gain market share, they are burning money to force their worse product on people. Consumers won't get a better result from this kind of strategy. It happened before, when they gain a big enough market share, they can push anything on consumers because we don't have a choices anymore. And the things they will do will be the exact opposite of consumer friendly.

Steam has been top dog for years, but that's becasue they have actually become the best platform in the market, not because they use exclusive to force people using it.

It's not our government that banned EGS, it's EGS themselvs decided not letting Chinese consumers buy their game. It's their own decision.

That's an odd decision. Why would you purposefully cut out the world's largest market?

No one knows the real reason, but there is one popular guess: One of their big shareholders, Tencent having their own digital storefront in China. So they just banned China as a whole to avoide competition in the future.

  6. Am I the only one who isn't frothing at the mouth about this announcement? I mean, I would have preferred Steam, but is it such an inconvenience to download one more stupid platform?

I mean, I'm going to have to buy a Nintendo Switch to play the new Pokemon when that comes out. And that will actually set me back 30,000 yen.

Well if  I want to use EGS, I have to become a immigrant and live in another country.

  7. It will always be the great irony that 95% of the people complaining about Epic Store exclusives would be completely fine with it being a Steam exclusive. Either exclusives suck, including steam exclusives, or they don't in which case ES exclusives are fine.

(And it's probably good news overall for GOG users, since we wouldn't have got TOW on release day in any realistic scenario. As it stands now we might even get it the same day steam does)

There is no such thing as Steam exclusive unless it's a Valve's own game. What are you talking about?

Steam never stops publishers to go sell their games on other digital platforms, Epic games do. If the publishers don't want to sell on other platform other than Steam, does valve suppose to force them to sell on GoG or anything?

It's kind of funny that Epic's reputation among Extremely Online Gamers is so bad that this news would actually have been more well-received if the game ONLY launched on the Windows Store.

Well it makes me open the Microsoft Store front page for the first time in my whole life.

I'd probably buy something from it for the first time in my whole life as well simply because of this. I'd say it's a relatively efficient way to adversite the windows store.

The Windows Store is utter garbage though, I've used it for Forza games and it's been an issue for all three of the Forza games I've played through it, but at least it has user reviews, so it's got that over Epic's even lower effort attempt at a digital storefront.

Talk about having to choose between ebola and the plague.

At least I can use it in China, unlike EGS. Also it's part of the windows, so you don't have to install another launcher(which steals your personal info).

  10. Microsoft Store made this back to a maybe as I don't mind Microsoft as much anymore and well, they ARE first party now.

Still, majorly disappointed, won't buy it at launch and a lot to make up for. Also generally the worst decision they could have made as they basically threw additional sales they gained through the transperency and the stance against microtransactions right out of the window again.

And no Epic's money won't make up for the lost sales nor the sales they will lose in the future due to their damaged image.

Epic's money might make up for the lost sales, but no amount of money can get the goodwill back. And it's even worse because it might be a publisher's decision, but it's always the dev's image getting hurt.

That's one of the reason I hate EGS, they claim they wish the best for the developer, but in reality they only care about the interest of publishers.

  11. So obviously the motivation is the bottom line, but does anyone know what that number is?

I think Ive seen it mentioned that Steam gets .30 cent on the dollar. What is Epic cut? Is it so overwhelming as to mitigate the lost sales over the course of a year? Will anyone be interested in a year old game?

Epic's cut is 12%, lower if the game uses unreal engine.

That's 40% of what Steam takes, while they offer only 5% of the functions Steam offers. And they have the nerve to call Steam greedy.

  12. Epic Game store is the most awful platform out there, way worse comparing to any of its competitior, whether it's Uplay or Origin. The worst part is they are not trying to make their platform better, they are just trying to buy exclusive to force people use it, meanwhile bluffing about "helping" the developer. And on top of it being ****, I can't even buy a game from it just because I live in China.

If Outer Worlds go there for the money I won't touch this game even when it comes back to steam a year later. Seriously, **** Epic Game store, the soon it rots in hell the better.
