  1. 5 seconds is a round.

I don't know about action speed, but as for %duration, and at each 5 second interval is a "breakpoint" where the ability duration is extended by a round. Say a buff has a 30 second base duration, and with int modifiers it lasted 44 seconds. Round it down to 40 and that would be 8 rounds.

This means you need to have 100% buff duration to extend a short buff by a round. Makes playing an assassin spellcaster harder because 30 int can be kinda tricky to get and you can't finish casting a spell before being stealthed wears off unless you have 2 rounds of invis :(

  2.

What do they LOOK like, though? The thing I care most about in these games is...FASHIOOON (these things go GREAT with a string of pearls)!

    Man, I hear you :p

    Here you go:

Though honestly the godhammer plate with the 2H battle axe is more badass IMO:

The new 2H sword is perfect for the "gold knight" setup:

Now I just need the Sanguine Plate for my Watcher to be Little Red Murder Hobo (well, not so little, being an aumaua.)

do you have the stats/effects of the gear? or is there anywhere online I can check?

  3. Obvious one is that helmet that prevents interrupts while injured in conjunction with grimoire of vaporous wizardry.

Another great one is the mask from the vithrack in delver's row that gives +2 illusion PL with the wael scepter from the south part of the map that you can enchant to give +3 PL. +5 illusion PL is a HUUUGE duration increase when you cast ryngrim's enervating terror, considering terrified is easily one of the best afflictions in the game, which you apply in a gigantic foe aoe.

magran's favor battleaxe with the ring that gives +10 accuracy to fire keyword attacks is great, too. Optionally, you can add the pistol from uto's that gives you +melee attack speed after you fire it. For boss fights, you cast minor avatar, fire the pistol for the melee action speed bonus, and whale on the enemy with the battleaxe with bleeding cuts for a bit, then you cast cleansing flame. The accuracy bonus from the ring almost ensures you hit it, and then the boss just melts. Probably want to throw in a shining beacon/devotions for the faithful before then, too.

  4. I'm curious, does the vendor sell items that are otherwise unavailable or not?

No, they are all items that are otherwise available. Still, they are incredibly good - especially the cloak of deflection/protection that go for 775 each, and the 3000 gold gloves that gives wizards a +2 PL boost to evocation spells (that's an extra projectile on all missile spells in addition to the damage bonus of missile spells)

  5. So in pillars 1 casters could be gods, spamming shadowflames to annihilate bosses and stacking shining beacons and storms of holy fire to obliterate the thickest of mobs. But with massively bloated casting times in deadfire, is it still possible? Cleave-capable melee characters can do the same amount of damage as spells without expending resources and also attacking faster, in addition to being sturdier. How can my priest of magran or evocation wizard compare to a barbarian's carnage or a greatsword fighter's cleave stance?

  6. I am but because of my bad internet I'll likely finish downloading the game by the 9th. And yes won't be touching these forums for a week after the release at least. Doubt anything major is gonna be spoiled pre release and browsing these forums keeps the hype in check.

I didn't scrub through the entire thread to check if somebody already told you this - but starting this friday you'll be able to preload the game on steam. So if you have **** internet you can still play on release : )

  7. Not over just yet:

Holy ****, you're a wonderful person. Thank you for this.

Also, I'm overjoyed to see that quarterstaff - staff-wielding mages is one of my favorite archetypes that I couldn't optimize in PoE because most of the staves simply weren't good on casters (the fireball staff was nice, though, I ended up using that so my priest of magran could pretend to be a wizard)

  8. Torn between a single class Trickster or A Trickster/specialist wizard multiclass. Really depends on if they redo the wizard subclasses in any capacity as they are not currently in a great place or at least the ones I would pick are not anyway.

Why would you multi trickster and wizard? You're giving up so much sneak attack damage for illusion spells that wizard already has anyways or/and you're giving up many schools of magic for illusion abilities which you have some access to already from trickster.

  9. I was looking at a similar Crusader just indestructible(Unbroken + Shieldbreaker) Mountain dwarf for the con resistance with Aedyr culture

might 10, con 18, dex 10, per 11, int 10, res 19  ( high res to reduce duration on cc and rp reasons)

    abilities

    Deep faith

    Lay on Hands

    Weapon and Shield style

    Zealous aura

    Fighter Stances

    Exalted endurance

    Guardian stance

    Mental fortress

I like stances and aura's to be a bit more flexible with situations as I can switch to gain accuracy if needed. While the build is not immune to as much afflictions I think resolve can help reduce this flaw.

For a weapon it would be a hatchet for more deflect and the modal reduces incoming damage. I am not sure about type of shields as I have not seen the modals

If you're set on having max res I would move 8 points from con into might, having a character that can only tank is pretty damn useless. With more might not only will you be able to contribute damage, but you'll also heal a lot more. You'll still be getting fortitude, and though your max hp pool is smaller, your effective HP will be significantly higher given that lay on hands, your only zeal-spending ability, is a lot more effective.

  10. I really like that Paladins have penalties for going against their Order's beliefs. Makes it much more engaging to roleplay, especially when you turn the cheats off that tell you which response is which.

others might argue that it's much more restrictive to roleplay because dialogue becomes taking a multiple choice test where you get graded on correct and incorrect answers

  11. Are there any other people participating in the Backer Beta getting the impression that PotD in Deadfire seems "easier" than PotD in PoE1?

This has been on my mind for a while because I'm not sure if I fully support the sentiment. I seem to be having a much easier time with fights in the Beta than I would in the first game in a similar level range. I can't help but wonder if this means that difficulty in PoE2 will be more loaded unto the mid- and endgame or that difficulty in general is lower.

    Edit: Accidentally a word

Is...is this really how other people feel? I can't even beat the titan on veteran in deadfire, and I breeze through PoTD in pillars 1. I guess I'm just used to how blatantly overpowered wizards and priests are in pillars 1.

  12.

I mean, in real life if you manage to sneak up to someone and cleave them with a two-handed sword, that's going to be way more effective than a tiny dagger :)

Debateable. First of all you wouldn't be able to conceal a two handed sword. Then the effect of "dagger in the neck" or "great sword through the upper body" is the same: he's dead, Jim.

you fight dragons and other big stuff in this game too dude

  13. Slightly on topic - but how do you guys feel about the effectiveness of a CC wizard so far? Focusing on things like TOTV, slicken, curse of blackened sight, etc.

Is a Cipher just much better in the debuffer role? Is the debuffer still an important role in a party?

the level 2 wizard web skill is super strong. Reasonably fast cast and lasts for a long time, makes halt completely redundant. I think I'm going to spec aloth to be a control/cc wizard so he can hold enemies down while my pc nukes them.

  14. Sock puppet?

Are you having a rough day or are you just a bit of a sea word all the time? OP makes a post trying to discuss game mechanics and literally the first post in the thread is you making unconstructive posts and antagonizing the guy. You deflect any posts disagreeing with you and never actually address anything he says with legitimate arguments.

I think you've actually been served piss in water. Was it OP who pissed in it? Is that why you're acting out?

Could you describe what exactly differs from the crew mechanics in sunless sea? I haven't played that game.

Better yet, ask him to explain why it matters.
It certainly matters to people like me who have played both games but it may not matter to people who haven't as they do not know the difference. Sometimes ignorance is best as it doesn't allow one to be discouraged or dissapointed. That said, still will enjoy the game, just was hoping that the ship crew mechanics and functions would blow Sunless Sea outbof the water - since in the same respect, they are both rpg's which do not have ship crews as main focus but as rather a side thing.
If this was a sailing game (rather than a game that had sailing in it), these points *might* have a modicum of relevance.

Just because the game isn't primarily about sailing doesn't mean that any of those points are moot???

If you went to order a burger from a restaurant and asked for a water and they served you a nice burger and pissed in your glass of water, I suppose you'd just say

"hmm well there's piss in my water but I came here for a burger with a drink not a drink with a burger so I can't complain"

  16. I wonder what a non-random version would look like?

How about something in the vein of:

    RES 1-8 never occurs

RES 9-11 every 8th empowerable action will be empowered (perhaps starting with the first, to increase the value of RES even further?)

RES 12-14 every 7th empowerable action will be empowered (ditto)

RES 15-16 every 6th empowerable action will be empowered (ditto)

RES 17-18 every 5rd empowerable action will be empowered (ditto)

RES 19-20 every 4nd empowerable action will be empowered (ditto)

RES 21-22 every 3rd empowerable action will be empowered (ditto)

    Or is this madly OP?

I mean, idk about numbers or OP but this makes resolve look like a really interesting stat.

  17. My first playthrough of POE1 was without a Priest (once I got enough party members to ditch Durance) at release and I found it easier than when I did it playing as a Priest in another playthrough.

I never understand people saying that POE1 party required a Priest personally.

??? what difficulty did you play on? It's not that potd isn't possible without a priest, but tons of fights get ridiculously annoying when you're charmed repeatedly or perma frightened in dragon fights. I can't imagine the game somehow being easier with no party wide means of removing crippling afflictions.
