I almost freaked out when I didn't see some of my kickstarter element stuff not showing for my original 250 pledge. Looking around, found it. X)

Where did you find it? I'm on the 250 tier and my page looks like this:

    8hgP9Ar.png

No option to redeem the digital stuff :(

The digital rewards will unlock tomorrow. They will be in the same location as your game keys.

  2. And again no official explanation or apology for the delayed physical rewards for international backers.

They really know how to disappoint.

Anyway, congrats to all fellow backers. I hope you will have fun tomorrow and in the upcoming days with the game. I'll probably wait for a few more days/weeks...

Once I get an official word from Paradox that shipments have started I will make an announcement. Until that time there will probably be radio silence because there is nothing new to report.

  3. Update by Josh Sawyer, Project Director and Brandon Adler, Lead Producer

Hey, everyone. After two and a half years, we're happy that you're finally going be able to get your hands on Pillars of Eternity. It's been a great pleasure to work on a traditional PC RPG again and it wouldn't have been possible without your interest, support, and feedback. We hope that playing Pillars of Eternity gives you the same feelings you had when you played the Infinity Engine games. Many of you have told us how much these games have meant to you over the years. It's always been our goal to recapture that experience as well as we can. We've worked hard to provide you with a beautiful world to explore, flexible systems that allow you to build all the characters and parties you can dream up, and a rich story that responds to the choices you make. Nothing can replace the Infinity Engine games, but we hope Pillars of Eternity is a worthy successor to that heritage.

Thank you again for all you have done.

    -Josh Sawyer

    Kickstarter Tiers and Special Editions

Due to popular demand we have created special Kickstarter Backer editions on both Steam and GOG. These editions match the retail versions of the Hero, Champion, and Royal editions, but they come with a few extra Kickstarter goodies. When you go onto your Products page on the Backer Portal you will see which Kickstarter edition was granted to your Kickstarter tier. This was done so that people could download their rewards in multiple places.

Unfortunately, we were unable to map every tier perfectly. We have many tiers, many different combinations of add-ons, and only a few Kickstarter editions. Don't worry, though, because if your Kickstarter edition doesn't come with a reward you should be getting for your Kickstarter tier you can download it from the Backer Portal. In fact, the Backer Portal is the official way to download your rewards - we will always have them available for you on the Portal.

If you would like to see what products come with your Backer tier you can find that information by going to your Orders page on the Backer Portal. If you expand your order you can click on the "What does this include?" link to see all of your rewards associated with the order.

    Steps to Redeem Your Items

All of the steps outlined below have assumed that you have set up your account and confirmed your pledge. If you have questions about confirming your pledge, please read through our previous update on how to do so.

If you follow these steps below, you will able to redeem your rewards:

    pe-account-overview-580.jpg

    pe-products-listed-580.jpg

    • Each entry on the Products tab is a reward that you can redeem. Depending on your tier you may have many different types of products to redeem. Let's start with redeeming a game code for your platform of choice.

    pe-products-game-expanded-580.jpg

    • First step in redeeming the key to your copy of the game is to click on the game's entry to expand it.

    pe-products-game-platform-580.jpg

    • Once expanded click on the "Choose Platform" button to bring up a menu where you can select your preferred platform. We offer the choice between Steam and GOG. Once you have selected your platform you can press "Generate Key" to create a download key. Note that once you have generated a key for a platform it may not be changed in the future. Choose wisely.

    pe-products-game-key-580.jpg

    • After your game key is generated you will be given instructions on how to redeem the key in your platform of choice.

    pe-products-pdf-expanded-580.jpg

    • If you are redeeming a different type of reward, a PDF of the Campaign Almanac, for example, the process is the same. Expand the product entry and click the button to download the reward.

And that's it. Using the processes described above you will be able to generate game keys and download all of your available rewards. As more rewards are finished, like the documentary, they will appear on your list of rewards to redeem.

You may download your rewards as much as you like, but there is a short time limit on each link that is generated by the Backer Portal. If you are attempting to download from an old link, it is best to generate a new one by going through the process above.

    Documentary and Novella

As most of you know we will be releasing the documentary and the novella after we release the game. For the documentary, this was to ensure that you could view the full journey of Pillars' creation - including the release of the game and launch party, and for the novella, that it is done at the highest quality for Backers. Both of these items will not be available on the Backer Portal initially, but once they are released you will be able to download them like any other reward.

    Printed Rewards

If you are not getting the printed Strategy Guide and Collector's Book, but you would like one, you still have a chance to purchase them.

    Dark Horse - Collector's Guide

    pe-collectors-guide-580.jpg

We partnered with Dark Horse to bring you the Pillars of Eternity Collector's Book. Where the Prima Strategy Guide will be your go-to companion for all your walkthrough and strategy needs, the Collector's Book is there to satisfy the most hardcore lore enthusiasts. Whether your pledge included a physical copy or a digital copy, the Collector's Book is something we're sure you'll be happy with. We're very proud of it and we think Dark Horse did an amazing job bringing it to life.

The content of the book covers everything you would want to know about the world of Eora. Among the many informative chapters, you'll find detailed information on the people and gods, as well as the history of the Eastern Reach and recent events. There's even a detailed bestiary explaining the origins and habits of Eora's creatures.

It's available for order from a variety of online retailers including Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Random House.

Prima Games - Collector's Edition Strategy Guide

    pe-strategy-guide-580.jpg

We've been hard at work collaborating with Prima Games on the strategy guide for Pillars of Eternity. The folks over at Prima Games are not only working on creating the awesome Digital Guide for you Backers, but will also be releasing a beautifully printed copy of the guide. Pillars of Eternity is a big RPG, and Prima Games is working to make sure that every inch of our huge game world is covered. The guide will include:

    • Main Quest: A comprehensive walkthrough of the main story.
    • Side Quests and Tasks: An easy reference to all side quests.
    • Atlas: Maps for all critical locations in the vast world of Eora.
    • Training: How to create a character and expertly assign points to attributes and skills.
    • Achievements, Secrets, and exclusive bonuses.

The guide will also feature a Thank You section. If you pledged at a tier that included getting your name in the game's credits, you'll also find yourself featured here! As an added plus, all physical copies of the guide will include an access code for a free digital guide, viewable on any connected device. If you missed out on pledging for the strategy guide, the Collector's Edition Guide is a great option for getting all the tips and tricks you'll need for your journey through Eora.

To grab your copy of the Collector's Edition Strategy Guide head here.

That's it, everyone. We really appreciate everything you have done for us. Now go redeem your game keys and be prepared to get sucked into Pillars of Eternity.

Bit confused. Are digital orders in a different area or are they linked to the download? It's late at night, don't look at me like that.

Which digital orders?  Things like the almanac and stuff like that?  If so, that hasn't been released yet.  I believe someone mentioned about it being released either on the 25th, or when the game goes live on the 26th.  Right now the only digital thing released is the key claiming.

This really messed me up. I expected to have my digital cookbook downloaded by now. I even planned a big dinner party to celebrate, in which I had planned to feature some of the dishes from the cookbook.

Since I didn't have any recipes to work with, I just had to serve everyone dry toast! Any hopes I might have had to become a master chef are ruined. Thanks a LOT Obsidian! :verymad:

Dry toast is a hidden recipe. You were being a leet chef without even knowing it.

They chose to put the media before backers and the backers on par with first time buyers which is wholly their right to do, but it does by virtue of action mean backers are not important or appreciated by them. We're just ATM's.

That's certainly one way to interpret it, I guess. And while I agree with the complaints that there could have been better communication by times, I certainly don't agree with your interpretation of Obsidian's actions. So I guess you'll be moving on and not bothering with Obsidian or their forums anymore, then?

Depends on the game I bought it may as well play it - the forums are a good place to provide feedback.

That said Obsidian are on my be cautious list.

EA and Ubisoft are on my don't buy list until they remove mandatory 3rd party programs (Uplay and Origin) If I buy it on Steam that should be the only step I should need for playing the game no secondary sign in needed.

Obsidian are great guys and ok Devs but they really need to step up to the plate and start showing fans they appreciate them more. Because they really aren't - yes their games are often outstanding but you only get free passes for so long before people stop caring about you.

Happened to Peter Molyneux really easily and American Mcgee and countless other devs - the truth is if people like me and the others expressing dismay at treatment didn't care we'd just slink away and stop buying their products. The fact we're here telling Obsidian they're doing it wrong (treatment of backers) shows they still matter to us, and if we matter to them they'll listen.

My personal apologies that you feel this way. It is not our intention.

Many of the devs you see on the forums come on here to interact with the backers and fans on their off-time. Lately, many devs have been doing a lot of overtime to get the game out and haven't had a lot of time to come onto the forums.

I know the concern is that others have gotten their keys before the backers. I explained why that happened in another post in another thread. It wasn't because we don't love our backers, it had more to do with how complicated it is for us to distribute keys to people. There are a large number of combinations of rewards and tiers and it took us some time to create the backend of the Backer Portal and properly test it for our backers. When people buy items on Steam there is no back end work, they are just immediately granted a key.

Really, we just want an easy way for you folks to download your rewards. I hope that the additional wait is worth it for you guys.

Everything besides the documentary, novella, and obviously the expansion :) will be up on Thursday 9AM PST / 17:00 CET. Our release party is tomorrow night and to cap off the documentary, the film crew is going to be there to work on the final footage.

Is there any particular reason why things like the almanac, guidebook, wallpapers... any reward outside the ones you mentioned and the strategy guide (because spoilers) can't be available previously to launch?

I would have loved to be able to read a bit of the guidebook before playing the game.

I am not sure of the particulars. I will talk with Darren tomorrow to figure out if it is possible. I know we would still like additional testing on some of the reward downloaders.

Cmon, get here already email ;(

Not coming in an email. You will need to go to the backer portal and head to your products page. Check out the instructions at http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/71574-redeeming-keys-and-rewards-how-to/.

What, I have to GET it MYSELF? No no no, this just will not do. As a backer, I demand the key be delivered to me carved on a gold plated plaque, carried by a snow white dove accompanied by the clarion call of triumphant silver trumpets.

But, we only have plain old white doves.

  8. Got my key.

Sadly it is Champion Edition. To be honest, I want to get update to Royal Edition while I have all add-on Royal Edition contains.

There is even no Champion Edition to Royal Edition Upgrade on Steam/GoG. I may need to spend $45 to get What I have already paid for...

PS: Contact Obsidian already. Haven't got any reply for more than 36 hours.

You should be able to download any of your rewards that were in your tier in the backer portal once those rewards go live.

I apologize for not being more communicative today, but there has been a ton of things going on and we want to make sure you guys have an easy experience redeeming your rewards. Not a proper excuse, but I hope the game and rewards make up for it.

I won't speak for anyone else but I don't think you personally need to apologize for anything.  I think that Obsidian should have been more transparent in what was going on though.  Backers should have gotten keys before anyone else.  That didn't happen and when it didn't happen Obsidian should have been in front of that situation explaining why.  We still don't really know why.  At the end of the day, I don't think anyone is going to be upset, backer wise, as long as they have the game pre-loaded and ready to play when it unlocks.

They did explain. BAdler stated in a post the exact reason why Steam is pre-loading; ie, because they had to tell Steam to turn on pre-loading so our keys could actually work once given to us, and once Steam turned on pre-loading everybody who had pre-ordered automatically started pre-loading. If they hadn't told Steam to turn on pre-loading, then our keys would not work until tomorrow morning.

You not know is not the same as them not communicating.

I read that post and it did not communicate *why* the backers did not have keys yet, but the Steam purchasers did.  It just explained the decision to enable pre-loading (which I am fine with).  My money was spent years ago, at the very least I expected to get a key at the same time as someone who ordered on Steam a minute ago.  That didn't happen and for all of the BAdler posts, that still has not been explained.

The real reason is that key distribution is very complicated. i know it may not seem that way, but it is.

Originally backers were not going to get the special editions. They didn't map to the backer tiers and backers could get their rewards through the portal. Enough people thought it would be a cool idea so we decided to create additional special editions that were special for the backers. These special editions mirror the hero/champion/royal, but come with even more content. Some people even got a few additional items in their tiers because we wanted to hook the backers up where possible. Needless to say it was a lot of work to remap the backend of the Backer Portal to support additional redeemables.

This is just one example of the complications with distributing keys. There are many more.

For contrast, a person who buys the game on Steam automatically has it added to their Steam account. No need to have that person do anything other than buy a tier.

Soon you guys will have your keys, though. We have just been spot checking orders and redeemables since we had to rebuild the database to support the new redeemables. Things are looking good though, so it should be any minute.

I have spoken about reviewers and streamers in another thread. You can find my post on it here. (If that is what you mean about Backers not getting keys)

One thing to remember regarding the distribution of keys and rewards is that Obsidian is creating a custom portal for everyone to choose which platform they would like for their keys. We are also letting people download all of their digital rewards from there too. I think it is a pretty cool website. It has been a lot of work to get everything up and running while concurrently working on the game, but hopefully it will make getting your rewards much easier.

Thanks for being patient and understanding.

So much for saving the company right? I feel like they just **** on us. Plus, I've seen chapter two, one start. Thought people were not supposed to live twitch past chapter one or something ?

Then they're in breach of the NDA. It's not like the review copies are restricted to Act I. Notify Obsidian if you want to.

Yes, if you let us know the streamer we can contact him or revoke his key if necessary.
