Update by Feargus Urquhart, CEO and Brandon Adler, Lead Producer
Backer Content
It's come to our attention that a piece of backer-created content has made it into Pillars of Eternity that was not vetted. Once it was brought to our attention, it followed the same vetting process as all of our other content. Prior to release, we worked with many of our backers to iterate on content they asked to be put into the game that didn't strike the right tone.
In the case of this specific content, we checked with the backer who wrote it and asked them about changing it. We respect our backers greatly, and felt it was our duty to include them in the process. They gave us new content which we have used to replace what is in the game. To be clear, we followed the process we would have followed had this content been vetted prior to the release of the product.
We appreciate the faith you have all given us into making Pillars of Eternity the great game that it has become, and we appreciate the strength of conviction all of you bring to every conversation we have together.
Sincerely,
Feargus Urquhart, CEO
Obsidian Entertainment, Inc.Shipping
As some of you may have seen already, the game has started shipping out. When your shipment is sent, you should get an email sent to your email on record in the Backer Portal stating that it is in transit.
People in the United States should be seeing their physical items coming in very soon - if they haven't gotten them already.
Our shipments going out to Europeans should be landing in the U.K. early next week. At that point the shipments will start going out to folks. The best estimate that we have currently is that people will start seeing their shipments arrive around the middle of April.
For those people who only have a standard physical copy of the game and no additional physical goods, the box will ship once the discs are finished being pressed. You shouldn't be hindered from playing the game as we have made sure that all physical copies of the game were also given a digital copy. You can go to your Products tab in the Backer Portal to redeem your key if you have not done so already.
One last note, if you were late in confirming your pledge and placing your order your items will be sent in a later shipment.
We appreciate your patience as we try to get your rewards to you as fast as we can.
Patch 1.03
Hello, Backers. The Pillars team has been hard at work collecting feedback and fixing bugs for our upcoming 1.03 patch. The focus of this patch was to quickly identify issues that were causing the biggest problems for the community and work to getting those fixes out as soon as possible.
Note: We have hotfixed the problem with adventurer hall-created companions not being able to unlock doors or chests.
We are going to have a list of fixes below, but some of the big ticket items that we have fixed include:
- Bears and Cats can now be equipped with hats. This is most likely not a joke... but might be a joke.
- Double-clicking to equip items was causing passive abilities to get removed from the character. This has been fixed and we were able to retroactively fix the problem for people that have already run into the issue. If you open your saved game in the latest patch, your characters will be repaired.
- We have fixed a problem where attributes on characters could permanently increase by equipping certain items. This will also retroactively fix the problem in saved games that have characters with this issue.
- The crash in Raedric's Hold has been fixed.
- We fixed the looping audio sounds that can occur if you play with minimized tooltips.
- Previously Wizard summoned items could persist after the spell's duration. This has been fixed and it will also retroactively fix the problem in saved games that have characters with this issue.
- The items Drinking Horn of Moderation and Talisman of the Unconquerable were causing Ciphers to permanently lower their amount of focus gain. We've included a fix to retroactively resolve the issue on Ciphers but the effect is still on the items. Unfortunately the fix will not fix the broken effect on those items, so you'll need to keep those items unequipped until the next patch. If you do equip them, perform a Save/Load to fix your Cipher.
We released this patch earlier today on Steam. You can start downloading it by quiting out of your Steam client and starting Steam up again. The patch should download at that point. For those of you that have Origin and GOG, we are working with them to patch their platforms as soon as possible. We are hoping for all platforms to be up-to-date within a few days.

Crowfall
Our friends at ArtCraft Entertainment just finished up their Kickstarter for Crowfall, a really cool MMO being made by some serious industry vets.
In Crowfall, players each get their own personal Kingdoms that they own and that other players can visit. Kingdom owners have full control over who can enter, trade rules, and taxes. It has the potential to be really amazing. Mix in the Campaign Worlds, limited time campaigns that players can play through, and you have a recipe for a great time.
If you missed out on the Kickstarter campaign, you can still pledge now. Just head over to their website for more details.

We will be addressing this in a backer update.
We did not remove the backer's memorial. It is now in Woodend Plains (adding and removing entries can cause the memorials to change locations). We worked in concert with the backer on the issue.
Again, when the update goes out you will have a full explanation of the situation.

Thank obsidian for having removed the "problematic" tombstone, it proves that bankes that made possible the game not worth a twitter a drama queen.
We will be addressing this in a Backer Update later today (hopefully, later today).

I have a question. If i find a hacked update and install it (i bought on GOG) will there be any consequences? (im not saying ill do it)
I am not sure what you are asking. You mean if you copy files on top of your current installation?
From Obsidian's perspective I would advise against it. It may work perfectly fine... or it may completely destroy the state of your game. Or maybe something in between. We won't be able to support any issues you might have if you encounter any.
-
Many thanks to the whole team for the great work on this great title!
Can hardly wait to get my fingers on the update.
So, there isn't any other way for GOG players to get the patch earlier than via GOG itself? (Of course we can't demand this.)
(See: https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/75150-p2p-patch-distribution)
Keep up the amazing work.
We are currently working on a standalone patcher and hope to have it complete in the next couple of weeks.

GOG and Origin will be going through their own QA process before putting the patch live on their end. I expect it will take them a couple of days to run through that process on their side.
What does that mean, Steam doesn't test patches before releasing them?
No. We test Steam patches internally. They perform no special QA because I have direct access to uploading builds on Steam. Steam also automatically generates patches without Valve needing to do anything.
This is not the case with GOG and Origin. I have to submit builds to them and they perform the uploads. They also do separate QA on the builds they make.

Hey, guys. You can find the official post here.
Just wondering if you guys aware of the dialogue scroll bug where dialogue keep auto scroll to the top even when trying to manual scroll down? Thanks!
I am not personally aware of it, but I will have to check with QA to see if they have reported it. Do you happen to have good steps on how to reproduce the problem?
-
Hey, guys. You can find the official post here.

Hey, everyone. The 1.03 patch is live on Steam. To make sure your game updates you will probably want to completely quit out of the Steam client and jump back in.
GOG and Origin will be going through their own QA process before putting the patch live on their end. I expect it will take them a couple of days to run through that process on their side.
Please check out this blog for the patch notes.
A backer update will be posted later today (if nothing major is found with the patch once it goes live).
Thanks.

Hey, everyone. This should now be working on Steam. If you are having any troubles, try closing out of Steam and restarting it.
Please let me know if you are having any other issues.
-
I just received word from Valve that the issues should be fixed regarding not being able to view achievements. I just checked on my account and it shows all of the achievements correctly.
-
I have contacted Valve support and have asked them to look into the issue. I am hopping we can get this resolved for you guys sometime today.

Hey, everyone. After doing some tests on my machine I think it is a Steam client issue. If you have had the client open since before the game was released I think that Steam isn't properly updating your account.
If you are seeing this problem, please completely quit out of the Steam client and jump back in. It should fix your problem (hopefully).

Hey, 32-bit guys. There is a workaround that we know about which might help. Our QA lead is putting together a post about it soon.
-
just to piggyback on this thread, I have a 6 year old HP pavilion laptop.
Windows 7 64 bit
Intel core 2 duo 2.1 ghz
4 gb ram
Integrated graphics
It crashes to desktop after loading the obsidian and paradox shots. I am under the recommended settings so I'm not surprised. Will probably be upgrading soon.
Hey, bigsun123. Would you mind sending me a dxdiag of your system? Just use Start->Run->DxDiag to generate a report.
You can just send it to me in a private message. Thanks.

How can I find my Attack speed if I don't use weapons? as a Monk I can't find it, as such I don't know if 'Two Weapon Style' talent give me any attack speed.
I'm not sure. I will have to ask Josh about that.
-
As title,
I just find out Kickstarter Champion Edition has the exact contents as Digital Fun Pack, and only missing out the strategy guide. I do have the guide on backer portal, but do Obsidian/Paradox considering putting Strtegy Guide itself availabe to purchase separately as an add-on on Steam please?
The price would be like either $6.99 USD or $9.99 USD.
Thanks!
Hey, bc1280. This is something we would likely need to work out with Paradox and Prima. If it is possible we will look to sell it on Steam (and other outlets).

@Vetiver check your Order page...it should say "Kickstarter only in-game achievement and item." which is not the piglet or ring....those are general pre-order items (ie anyone who preordered through Steam or GOG)
I have "Backer Item and Achievement" DLC but didn't get the achievement and I dont have the wurm
Hey, I am not sure why you don't have the achievement. Do you have the cloak?
Also, for the wurm you had to have a tier of $50+. Not sure if this applies to you or not, but something to consider. Let me know if you are supposed to have the pet, but do not.
-
Okay, I have the DLC on Steam.
Question - will the pre-order content and backer bonuses be available on the Backer Portal?
Hey, dancingcrab. We will not be hosting these items on the Backer Portal.
-
What are they, and where can I find them in-game?
Further, how does infact armor action-delay interact with weapon-speed? It's rather hard to gauge, but so far it seems to me that a piece of cloth with no delay-penalty gives a longer action-delay on a war-bow than on a hunter-bow.
If you inspect the weapon in your inventory (by right-clicking) you can see the speed of the weapon. Armors give a percentage reduction in recovery speed, so different weapons/actions will have differing amounts of recovery - based on armor types.

Obsidian Entertainment:
1) PoE's frame rates are playable on an Intel HD 4000 Core i5 Processor, but only with anti-aliasing turned off. The game still looks pretty damn good with anti-aliasing turned off. Given that you are marketing this game to Mac users, most of whom own laptops without dedicated GPUs, you should probably include the option to turn off anti-aliasing to improve performance. This will lead to a much warmer reception from a lot of Macbook owners or PCs with integrated GPUs (i.e. most laptops and desktops / the semi-casual gamer market).
2) PoE needs to have a gamma and brightness slider in the graphics settings. If someone is playing on a screen that is calibrated poorly for your game, the game is too dark to play comfortably, which will lead to poor customer reviews. This oversight forces the gamer to have sufficient knowledge of their GPU driver tools to adjust the brightness and gamma manually.
Both of these options are fairly standard features and should be included as soon after release as possible if they are not already included in the Day 1 patch or the pre-release build. If they have been included, please disregard this message.
1) We should be able to expose anti-aliasing in our options menu. It was an oversight on our part.
2) Darren didn't know this but we were able to sneak in a gamma slider into the reviewer and day one patches. You should see it when we release the game later today.

I generated a game code for GOG, but GOG is not giving me the option for a Mac version. What am I doing wrong?
Nothing. GOG doesn't work particularly well for distributing keys before the game is released. As a quirk of their system it will appear as though Mac and Linux is not supported. This is incorrect. It does support those versions of the game. It will start working once the game goes live.

Paradox hired a professional mock review for the game. They gave us a score prediction +/- three points. In a few weeks I will share what they gave us and we can see how close it came.

WHY!?!? Seriously of the hundreds of games I've pre ordered and purchased at release NONE have ever not released at midnight. I changed my sleep schedule and planned work around this crap, and NOW they want to push it back 12 hours??? I would seriously request a refund if I could, I'm that butt hurt.
Steam doesn't typically do midnight releases. If anything went wrong on Steam we wouldn't be able to get it fixed for close to eight hours.

Update 93: Patch 1.03 - Important Community Fixes
in Pillars of Eternity: Announcements & News
Posted
If we happened to miss content, then yes, we will change it if we feel it is necessary.
Like Feargus mentioned in the update, we worked with many backers to revise their content for myriad reasons.
