The main problem i have with the main plot is that it just appears to random, made up and all over the place. It is as if Obsidian spun a wheel back at there office that had all different kinds of plot scenarios on it and the wheel stopped at eothas breaking down my house sucking my soul out then he decidedly to play a game of hide and seek. I mean come on really? This is just plane stupid.

Then the god rants oh my god the god rants. They where just embarrassing.

The Gods act like a bunch of teenagers. It's terrible.

To be fair that's pretty much what most people with infinite power and zero accountability would devolve into.

Same for GOG. Reasons for the bad scores are mostly:

-Extremely buggy on release (even though 6 hotfix patches have already been published)

-Balance problem (many players find it insanely difficult (although it is said that difficulty beyond "normal mode" is meant to be clairly unfair). Dev claims that some encounters were indeed messed up, and have already solved the most well-known (the wolves and the glitch in random encounters))

After reading several dozens reviews on GOG, i guess that these 2 points represented more than 90% of the complaints (many gave minimum score just for that). I have personaly more hope for Kingmaker than for Pillars.

Because Deadfire was released with no bugs at all :D

The biggest reason is that the hardest difficulty level (>LITERALLY< called "Unfair", so you kinda know what to expect) kicked everyone's asses to the moon and back. Players couldn't handle it, lost bragging rights, and had to vent somehow. You have to know the system inside out and play a well powergramed, custom group, not story companions (who are really bad). That's how highest difficulty should look like, but ezmode games like Deadfire spoiled everyone.

One thing that the game doesn't prepare you for is that without any knowledge about PnP (at least D&D 3.5 if not Pathfinder), you will have a bad time, because it's very easy to completely mess up your character.

Deadfire's bugs didn't make completing the game impossible. Also I started on normal (you know the basic difficulty) and got utter nonsense like running into elder elementals at level 3 and getting status effects I had no way of curing. There's plenty of well written posts on reddit about how the difficulty was excessive and it had nothing to do with people playing on unfair. The difficulty was overtuned (thankfully they toned it down so now its more reasonable though some of the random encounters are still idiotic. That could be solved with a flee option but there's not one so...). I like both Pillars and Pathfinder but Pathfinder has waaaay more bugs than Pillars did even on release. Not to mention their hotfixes introducing even more severe bugs.

That said I do have hope the devs will fix this eventually and it'll be a great game when it is fixed.

A good distraction from reality is a great thing at times but I really think you should see someone about your problems and I really mean this, depression took my brother and I didn't even know he was depressed so please talk to people about it so u can get the proper support u need.

Seconded. Totally understand the therapeutic nature of games and immersive fantasy, but please seek some support, man.

This and discuss with your doctor meds and side effects OP (assuming they bring them up. Just talking to someone works for a lot of people). If they're not willing to tell you more about the medicine then yeah I see being unwilling to take it but some of us need that extra push. As long as you go into it with your eyes wide open and willing to help them help you (the hardest part really) there's a sunrise at the top of that hill. It just takes longer for some of us to reach than others.

Also if you're not comfortable with your doctor/therapist you don't have to stay with them. You get nothing out of it if you're not comfortable enough to help them help you.

    Which ones are those?

Pardon me but I'm not sure what you're asking here? Which companions leave? Like I wrote, Pallegina, Maia and Tekehu... Am I missing something?

I'm not sure if Eder really leaves but the whole situation is kinda weird. If you play as an orlan and ask him if he has feelings for you he'll give you a pretty racist reason ("but you're an orlan... you know what they say about orlans... but you're not like one of them") and I guess Watcher reacting with rage would be understandable. But if you are a guy or a not-an-orlan-gal (what happens if you play as an orlan guy?) and Eder just tells you that his life was kinda ****ed and he never got closure with Elafa and then you respond with "get out!!!" that's kinda??? Undeserved and overblown really.

I went to wikia to check Serafen's ending and apparently he can also leave due to "low reputation". i think it could also be linked to Crookspur when he confronts you about slavery (when you buy Handsome Eliam). I remember you can either try to placate him or be aggressive about it so maybe that's the moment where he can leave?

Eder does leave if you ask him too and confirm it. I did it for science :p That was my more petty Watcher with a "If I can't have it I don't want it near me." attitude.

  4. Sorry about that, those questions are kinda like thinking out loud. Lol.

It seems Old Vailia does overlap with VTC, or would actually seem to go hand in hand.

Raider has 12 [checks], and Slave has 9 [checks].

It really depends when it comes into play since Slave can be checked during the time on Crookspur and Seferan, perhaps then be light everywhere else? Hmmm. Also, Old Vailia only has 14 [checks] total.. it makes me wonder if any of those 14 are from Principi NPCs and not VTC.

The Deadfire Raider sounds/screams Principi even though there are extremes. The Principi are natural raiders. Also, the checks for Raider might be what you are looking for as far as flavor. Just my opinion that it sounds better.

For me, it would give me my only reason to pick Raider so I throw my lot in with Deadfire Raider.

Yeah my slave PC only really had dialogue dealing with the slavers and Skaen had a comment I think. Otherwise it didn't really come up.

  5. The entire Gods squabbling arc is so cringey I don't know what they were thinking.

At one pt, the fish lady says "Yeah we can't do anything because we can't get along." I physically cringed. Are these Gods or children? The passing suggestion of throwing a moon down makes...no sense whatsoever. You are stuck squabbling, exacting no influence whatsoever on Eothos plans, having the Watcher do your dirty work, yet you suggest throwing down a planet? Pft. It's like a wimpy guy telling you he is tough. Even after Eothos tells you his plan to expose the Gods, they are still powerless. And showing them took away their luster. Fail Obsidian, major epic fail!

In plenty of lore gods are extremely childish. Having vast amounts of power and no accountability doesn't lead to maturity.

And I never got the impression the gods were supposed to be lustrous. That was the whole point of the reveal in POE1 was showing they were people with far more powers than most (and were still reliant on humans to do their dirty work.)

  6. Didn't Gaider also say it's because they thought it'd be too much of a stereotype for someone with Solas' character to be gay? Definitely not the best of reasons, but understandable considering how toxic their fanbase could get at times.

Audio files are often misleading; if I remember correctly, in the original mass effect they had the male voice for shepard record all lines of female shepard and vice versa to be certain nothing was missed, so it's possible have fully voiced same-sex romance with a few console tweaks.

They could easily have had the Iselmyr-Eder thing voiced, tested by QA in-game, received the universal response "this is WAY more disturbing and invasive to Aloth than on paper, please don't", and cut it out, while leaving the voicework in for modders. Or they just like torturing Aloth, which is also quite likely considering his character arcs and his tendency to die without the watcher's help.

It must be a parallel universe thing. Maybe I'll find Rick and Morty in the next island.

Rick messing with the wheel to make a point about inept gods or selling adra as a drug/energy source two galaxies over seems perfectly in character tbh

Yes but that's when they had the VAs record almost all the lines. They stopped doing that before DAI came out however it's also what made me so amused because they still recorded some of Male Shepard's VA with a continuing Kaidan romance (not all of them but enough) that it was intentional xD. That said it being a stereotype for Solas to be bi is absurd. Especially given BW's history of having their main plot related males be straight. It was just a really silly excuse.

Lmao I wouldn't be surprised by either of those.

  7. Yeah I wouldn't mind the Iselmyr thing if Aloth was in on it. Then I'd be like "Okay I find that a bit odd but you three have fun!" as it is though it's just terribly awkward. Well least it's easily avoidable.

There's just so many minefields in that I'm just like naaah.

And while I do feel Aloth can be rude everyone can be rude. It's pretty clear that an Awakened spirit and it's host can have pretty much nothing in common so the whole Iselmy=Aloth thing completely misses me. She was his past life yes. that doesn't mean they're the same person now. Especially not with how souls in Eora seem to go weird overtime.

That tali sweat thread. Jesus christ.

That and the wonder if Fenris had lyrium in his...ahem.

But I'm mostly eh on Eder now. I miss my bro who woke my PC up from nightmares :(

I thought BSN in general was a corrupted place. Glad they shut it down tbh, it was unhealthy. More unhealthier for the devs who had to read those insane rants.

I am with you on Eder :(

I liked the BSN but something in the site went completely to **** after DA2's release. It became so toxic I see why they closed it. ME3 only added gasoline to the fire. So yeah I see why the devs closed it down that constant abuse was tiresome to me I couldn't imagine how I'd felt if it was directed at me.

This is one of the scariest threads I've read after that one on now dead bioware social about Alistair dumping female Wardens because they're dirty forest elves/not nobility.

Nah, man. Have you ever seen Tali romance threads?

As a rule of thumb, I nope out of a thread as soon as a photoshopped wedding photo appears.

  10. The starting island is absurdly hard and overtuned compared to literally everything after.

People would arguing with me before on this but the drake + panthers and the boars are too much right now

    So is grocery street

(Buff the rest of the game to be this dumb or admit that the starting island is silly right now. I'm past the starting island and fights are simply challenging and fun instead of ridiculous like grocery street and boar/drake ruins fights)

Agreed. Once you get past the absurdly difficult fights things go back to being decent. The boar drake fight is obscene (like why are they both above the PC's level and boss like enemies? When you only have 3 people who thought that was a good idea?)

  11. Cannot remember if he is pro RDC, but Leaden Key Aloth, when asked about his family, makes excuses for his father and is angry at his mother when it's vice versa with anti-Key Aloth. So it makes sense if he's pro brutal but efficient might-makes-right ogranization.

I felt it was less making excuses for his father and more acknowledging the pressure he was under. He's more angry at his mother for completely ignoring the issue.

  12. And I just checked leaden Key Aloth. He also has 2 things he likes and 3 things he hates.

Come on devs that's no beuno. Give him something else as a positive rep. (Not sure why they made hims no fun allowed because he really wasn't in POE1)

    How is this?

    51-1527956450-220165169.png

I didn't dare touch his import states, but I added resourcefulness and skulduggery. Will it work? Heck if I know, but I'll put the modified file up on my mod page if anyone wants to try it out.

He really should like skullduggery especially if he's Leaden Key. Not sure why that wasn't included.

  13. Man that fight in port maje is a pain now. I can see why they increased the amount of enemies but what's with the OP mage chick? And worst part is she's in a corner so it's not like I can just ran and kill her before she kills someone.

Edit: Also game's bugged in which case you wipe there and reload no one aggros for some reason. And you can't even use pull outside of combat (which is laughable)

  14. BG2 had this problem as well - they put in a fixed gold requirement to progress to chapter three, but it only took 2-3 side quests to achieve and it made no sense narratively to do any sidequests whatsoever afterward.

I just use some headcanon - when Eothas tells you he'll meet you at Ashen Maw, I take it to mean that he's either literally waiting for you or has a ton of adra pillars to hit on the way. Hopefully once the difficulty is fixed the ships around the island will be level-prohibitive in their difficulty and encourage more side-content/levelling as well. It's still messy in terms of story-telling, but you can't have an open world with an urgent narrative and good side content without some narrative compromises.

I always took it as him going there to wait for the protagonist. He's the one who mainly wants to talk to you afterwall so it makes sense that he'd wait a bit for you to catch up.

  15.

The opposite here. I don't like giving chase and jumping through hoops, especially when one wrong answer can fudge everything, so usually the first character to ask "Hey boss, wanna f†ck?" gets it.

But back to our Aloth. How do you guys make that -2 romance work? Tried, it went nowhere. I made a Bleak Walker/Corpse Eater for my arsehole run and I wouldn't mind imposing this gentleman of exquisite manners and refined gastronomical tastes on Aloth. Especially when I managed to antagonize him into -1 even before reaching Neketaka.

Good grief, this sounds so much like me, I thought I'd written it and got really confused lmao. :D I also made a Bleak Walker / Corpse eater to see if I could get the rivalmance, and he gave me the "u 2 trad. bruh" talk on the boat like 10 min after I recruited him and I'd done nothing traditional. I'll likely ditch that character though. I was tempted to use my current one who's still @ 0 in spite of trying really hard to please the guy to get the rivalmance as all I have to do is go to the bar and have a laugh with Tek to get to -1, and -2 shouldn't be that hard after that. But if all it is is a weird angry kiss, I can't be bothered. And yeah I also don't like being pushy in those types of relationships. In Dragon Age Inquisition, you have to pretty much harass some people to get anywhere and it really doesn't fit to a lot of characters. OTOH, I haven't been suffering from the lechery some people report in Deadfire. Only Tekehu has made a pass at me (and Rekke kind of, which doesn't count).

Oh god Bull hitting on everyone *but* the Inquisitor was the worst. He's my favorite LI too but it's so stupid he doesn't hit on you first. Like it does kind of work but it kind of doesn't.

And yeah I rather a mix. I thought I'd only want NPCs to get hit on first but it feels like pulling teeth starting a romance like that. Just make an obvious rejection/acceptance and that's far more engaging.

Nobody's forcing you to say that. Yes, Giacolo might not survive the quest (you can still save him during the fight btw, it's not easy, but it's manageable), but that's consequences for you.

I tried *SO MANY TIMES*. Literally like a *dozen* times, couldn't manage to do it. They run up to him to damn fast, I couldn't even get close.

I did it but I had 2 wizards. CC is godlike in this game.

  17. I just want Bishop's "romance" to be "fixed" in NWN2  :ninja:

To be fair his "romance" would consist of wham bam and thank you mam.

and then him probably talking crap about you afterwards.

IIRC from the days of Infinity Engine console commands, all of the romance dialogue in BG2 were based on demographics and a timer (and Jaheria's timer was slightly mistimed).  So it was, literally, only a matter of time in BG2 before you'd get the available dialogue to launch the romance if you met the demographic (as if anyone playing a human, elf, half-elf or halfling female PC needed another reason to make sure that Anomen wasn't in their party).

It seems like PoEII tried to gate it through dispositions but that it not triggering as intended atm since its easier to trigger the thresholds than intended.

Yep outside of the bugs (which thankfully were fixed with mods) those romances aren't particularly difficult. It's just time consuming. Least modern BW romances tend to make you initiate the romance with an obvious flirt (and shut it down with an obvious no thanks) instead of burying it in conversations and making it so hours later you're stuck in a romance with someone you never even hit on.

And yeah when those bugs are fixed I'll feel better about judging which romances go too fast/too slow.
