  1. I think in PotD the best warlock "strat" is to get 1 injury and get the special rekvu helm, grimoire and cloak.  Attack in melee while casting wall of flame on yourself and occasionally a fireball which will all heal you because of the cloak and damage enemies.  Maybe not the grimoire as it's spell selection is less than ideal but definitely the cloak.

When I first time saw that cloak I thought that was a joke but it's really make you immune to fire, same as helm that make you immune to interruption

  2. I did a short test run with a lvl 20 Warlock (Berserker/plain Wizard). Seems to be better at shelling out damage than Brute (same equipment, didn't adapt the gear to the new build), even without bonus talents (Berath's favor, PoE bonus stats). Couldn't really get a feel for the durability, but taking out the Rauataians and Kahanga palace (with full party) didn't scratch him.

I guess my next playthrough is decided... :geek:

Did you already check Shaman + BDD build ? :D

  3. Gear is far more low key here, with strong caster gear giving a +10% bonus to spells and plenty of caster builds don’t have an “+% to spells” at all. But still, if you can find a one-handed sword with +10% to spells, you should be able to find a two hander that helps casters about twice as much, one way or another.

Yes, we already has 2x weapon with +2PL and AOE fire on critical hit kill, Obsidian please put some 2H mage/rogue weapon. But I still luck such synergy, we have only monk shield :( and few weapons with elemental PL

  4. I done last 2 runs with Black Jacket/Berserker (with same gear and same primary weapon). I didn't understand how people can ignore such cool 2H AOE attacks like WotEP - Spin Assault, or Wicked Beast or Stalker's Patience

On my opinion 2 pen, can't compensate such cool skills, combine them with Avenging Storm from Heaven's Cacophony

  5. Ohh, maybe I replay in games like Grim Dawn and Median XL where you  take 2H and it feel like 2H, you know when base damage overcome both weapon with 2DW style, when something like Fireband give you +4PL to fire spell and 15% chance to cast AOE fireball, when your COOL LOOK fire godlike cast meteor shower with big sword ... because you know they synergy so well (you has armor vs your fireball AOE and your fire-shield get +4PL)

And now I just has +25% fire lash ... Single Modwyr has +20% lash, attack speed and immunity to intellect

  6. Amaliorra - affect even spells, all other weapons should affect only weapon damage, but for example Chill Fog from Grave Calling affected by lash bonus from Hel Beckoning

    > Stunning Surge will no longer refund its cost twice if dual wielding and both attacks crit

But you still has double chance to crit (I assume that accuracy for 2DW and 2H is same), i.e you has ~50% more to refund at least 2 resources (with 50% crit chance)

    > Regarding Confounding Blind: it has a deflection malus cap of -30, and iirc is achievable with just 1 blunderbuss shot.

But with 2DW you need only 2 attack, when with 2H you need still 4 attack or switch to blunderbuss

  7. Modwyr - +20 lash for both weapons

Scordeo's Edge +2 acc for both weapons
Amaliorra  affect all attacks vs vessels

Hel Beckoning + 2% lash on hit

Grave Calling + 2% lash on hit
    Scordeo's Trophy +5% recovery speed

Tuotilo's Palm + 20 Deflection, scaling with PL, Retalation

All weapons that give you something on hit, will increase your average DPS for each full attack. Scordeo's Edge can give you +10ACC with 5 full attack. Ranger / Barbarian can achieve max bonus with single HoF/WW use

I'm sure even max roll can't help with abilities like, Stunning SurgeGambit, all upgrades of Blinding Strike , because you can very easy increase DPS even with 2H, but can't use any other game mechanic, game should give you alternative mechanics instead of same DPS

  8. I agree with everyone who offer to buff primary attack skills, they by design created for 2H weapon

For example add +50% crash lash to Mule Kick instead of +25% damage
Make Crushing Blow use primary attack in cone, target deflection (i.e when full attack from Barbaric Smash trigger only 2 carnage and may return rage, cone attack can trigger multiple carnages and apply multiple weapon effects)

This change will also give players that feeling when they need to decide which upgrade select on level up, I will go further and make all weapon skills has at least 1 upgrade (primary or full attack)

Via skills developers can make primary attack apply stronger affliction, for example primary attack with crippling strike can apply paralyze affliction for 2s (as rogue you will need to decide cheap full attack or cheap affliction)

Let's go further, one hand weapon and shield & sword will be also tuned up
If developers will add more on-crit (melee :D) effects we can build around +12 accuracy, I will  also change one-hand style to +16 acc (I assume with this bonuses Assasin will prefer 1H style instead of 2DW)

One-hand style change will also make enemies destroy deflection stacking builds

Such small changes can make game much funnier, I can only imagine how much builds we can create with at least primary attack boost

That pretty easy and even moders can do this changes

  9. Did you try to stack enough dexterity and action speed ?

    18 Base
    +1 Elf
+2 Boots (Footprints of Ahu Taka)
    +2 Gloves (Firethrower's Gloves)
    +5 Minor Avatar

    = 31 will give you +35% Recovery Speed/Attack Speed

+10 Action speed from Fast Casting
+20% Recovery speed from Mohorā Wraps
With Reckless Brigandine you will get additional 10% - 20% AS
With Mob Stance you will get additional 10% - 20% AS
(Possible) +15 from Potion of Swift (not sure if you can set AI fro that action)

Pet + Armor Grace reduce your Heavy AR to +20% - which in summary give you pretty high recovery speed or you can take Casità Samelia's Legacy for more defection and +7% Recovery speed (which little bit better than bonus from Brigandine) or The Bloody Links if you like live on edge with BDD spell

For attributes I offer to max - Dexterity / Int / Perception

  10. Single class Ascendant downside #1 is that you are slow to get to full focus without full-attacks from other martial classes.

You mitigate that con by using Thunderous Report from Kitchen Stove blunderbuss or The Red Hand Arquebus which fires two shots per attack.

Still though with a rogue or a monk you could and would hit max focus fast more consistently.

Definitely pump your perception as high as you can (like 22-24 lol) if you go single class as also having no full attacks (which usually come with bonus accuracy and damage) means perception and accuracy is even more important.

Otherwise there are no noticeable cons to pure ascendant except as a single class it may feel a bit boring to play.

Without DD I just stack deflection and take WotEP, of-course with full attack this combination will work even better, but WotEP has AOE skills which will fill you focus + WotEP retaliation reduce enemies fortitude and increase your focus

Then you can use Time parasite + Eye Strike + Death of 1000 cuts and watch how enemies dies

There also exist boots that Give you Charge with Full Attack which also works very well with 2DW

  11. Yes, I also was little bit disappoint about items proc and slow combat. When Obsidian release all DLC I will for sure develop mod which will return some part of PoE I balance, such as combat speed and good proc rate and maybe bosses stats, and maybe redone some classes to make them playable without multi classes, because I can balance pure class but can't  balance combo as Paladin + Rogue or Cipher + Ranger

  12.

Thank you both! I was definitely too optimistic . I'll try the Patinated plate.

No problem :D Don't forget to respect for more defensive setup

Ohh and I also forgot about very important part, if you planning to play with DD mod from L10 till L16 I usually do no rest run, check this article https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/101300-guide-permanent-bonuses-approach-for-a-no-rest-run

+50% to Healing and +10 ACC, Borthel and Adratic Glow made your life much easier ... for no-rest run I usually constantly use Svef for distraction immunity and Shark Soup to stop enemies removing frenzy inspirations

  13. The build looks really cool. I don't think you can survive level 1-16 without a shield or something that raises your deflection by "a lot", though. I was toying around with the build today and the poor guy got downed more often than my DPS seer (party of 5, level 10, PotD all upscaled). Am I doing something wrong? I have already tried giving him more CON and RES ad the cost of MIG and PER with the console but it's its abysmal deflection that makes it really hard for him to survive. What's your advice for the first levels? Also Blood Frenzy amounts to 121 raw dmg in 27 second with 20 INT at level 10: basically I am committing suicide the moment I click on it. Should I avoid becoming frenzied until I get Barring Death's Door?

At first if you play solo on PotD, I suggest you check this guide - https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/103025-guide-grow-strong-before-fighting-anything , you can get easy L16 without any hard fight

At second I made this build only for Berath Blessing (or for L16 char if you prefer skip low level fights), don't try to play with such low CON solo from start, with Berath Blessing you need something like 10 CON, then play as normal Priest

From L10 till L16 you strategy is defensive cleric (take shield talent +1 to all armor and Spirit Frenzy), I never start any fight for cleric or barbarian char until L10

    1. Equip small monk shield (Tuotilo's Palm) which scale with your fists attack + Shattered Vengeance or Sun and Moon, depend on situation

    2. Equip best heavy armor for example Patinated Plate with 30% stun enchant

    3. Equip Abraham pet

    4. Use any Food that give Recovery Speed Bonus

    5. Equip ring that reduce raw damage by 25%

    6. Equip ring that give you you +10 ACC to fire spell

    8. Put yourself in position where enemies can't flank you

    9. Start fight with Frenzy + Consecrated Ground (or Savage Defiance) + Shining Beacon & Drink potion of shield is needed

    11. When you think that you can beat enemies with remain rage, just kill them with full attacks

  14.

Heart of Fury is awesome. Being able to use it makes playing a single class Barb worthwhile. It also works with ranged weapons, even reloading ones (Fire in the Hole + Hand Mortar is pretty hilarious with HoF).

    Hmm. Alright. Final question.

Would you say HoF is worth taking over a Marauder's absurd Recovery time and Sneak Attack damage and extra Afflictions?

Depend on enemies amount :D If there 7 enemies around you, then  2 HoF will cause 14 full attack, equip nemnok cloak, follow with potion of last stand and wait until retaliation end battle in few seconds

Equip 2 sabers 1 with +2 acc on hit and second +2% freez lash, every HoF will increase your average DM output at least 20%

If there only 2 enemies then street-fighter will be better

  15.

I’m always confused how SA damage is calculated, thanks for post. Btw what’s the highest damage you are able to get with SA?

I was curious about the highest melee damage thing because I thought the highest melee damage is monk so I consoled myself a level 20 streetfighter/soulblade with grave calling / aldris, bone setter's, fair favor, etc, set my hp to near death, and went about slaughtering CRE_dummy on the starting beach. The highest SA I got was 290 damage. The damage between this setup and a PL12 monk is fairly close but without measuring I do think this is higher damage. In practice I'd rather just hit Whispers and win instead of fiddling around with flanked/bloodied but the damage output is there.

You can achieve the highest melee damage with Death Godlike + Priest + Helwalker (10 Wounds) + Debuff from Red Hand + Deltro's Cage Helm + BDD + Scroll from Chain Lightning, with this setup you can get +200 - 300% electric lash for 30 sec, which mean each full attack will cause 8x damage :D But not only that you will get wounds so fast that Rooting Pain will also cause stupid amount of damage

  16. Yes you get +damage from might, potion of last stand, etc ... same as any damage skill, so with 10 focus I will usually do 27DM + highest hit roll, but I'm not sure about street-fighter bonus because for example barbarian/soul-blade didn't get bonus from One Stands Alone, maybe something changed... But the most important bonus is PL as you wrote it multiplicative and has +7PL make you do much more DM. I assume each PL give you +10%

So if you has 10 focus you will do:

    12.5 * 1.7  ~= 21 * any other base damage modifiers
    21 * 1.3 (+10 might) ~= 27

  17.

And then what. Those users will pay for additional development time until they're all satisfied (which is never)? How many single player games do you play that get monthly balance patches? This game already got more changes from release than other RPG games get over their whole post-game development period. What more do you want to get for free.

I'm glad the devs are finally doing what they should be doing (which is fixing bugs) instead of trying to cater to the vocal, entitled minority, who is only this way because they got spoiled by the first POE constant patching. <shots fired>

A lot of single player games get frequent support and balance changes. Even if a game is single player, or has no competitive play in the game itself, a lot of players like to engage with the community online by posting creative builds and pointing out interesting synergies. That's a lot of what makes games like that interesting. I'd list Grim Dawn as a prime example of that. Although the game has multiplayer, it's not balanced for it at all. The balance is completely directed at single player and it gets frequent balance changes. Many rogue-like rpgs also see frequent balance changes. That keeps the core community engaged with the game and stokes constant buzz about it on social media.

    ...

I agreed with you  on 100%

Holy s** Grim Dawn the best fun/balance single player rogue like game. Even Path of Exile or Diablo 3 can't boast of this :D May be, Median XL has same balance/fun as Grim Dawn

Do you really mean to say you don't want Obsidian to change any of that? You'd rather just have a bunch of crap abilities in the game that nobody is ever going to choose? You'd rather ciphers suck and rogues to be strictly weaker than fighters? Why? I'd much rather have more balance patches that make weak abilities worth considering.

It is not possible to make every ability viable, if you have so many of them. That's just how it is. Sure I'd love buffs, but this is Obsidian we're talking about here. For each buff they do, they nerf 10 more things. This is their modus operandi. Always was. I bet my ass that changing Paladin inspiration would also involve nerfing half of their passives and FoD, for example.

Grim Dawn is more like Diablo or Path of Exile than Pillars, I find it hard to compare the two. I don't touch games like these so I can't talk about that. I'd rather compare with Dragon Age Origins, DOS, Baldur's Gate.. you know, games that are actually cRPG like Pillars are.

I think OP talk about how they balance game and not compare games itself. They picked 5 - 10 guys from community who played a lot something like 500+ hours and give them beta branch, take their feedback and only then release game changes

For example in last patch the fixed problem (the same as stacked deflection 201+ for PoE II), but give buff for 2H builds

  18. ^ ^ ^ ^

This is the single reason why Deadfire bosses s*** Obsidian decided to make PotD more casual friendly and now all bosses has only 50+ deflection and any party can g**bang them :D Take for example Turisulfus from PoE I with 140 deflection ... or  second dragon which can hit 300 - 400 DM with Tail attack, that was really fun fight for any non paladin class
