  1. I hope I am not too late to seek some assistance. I wish to have a portrait watercolored and wonder if some kind person could help me with that. This is the portrait in question,  made by Ben Savory also known as Dropdeadcoheed on Deviantart

I hope it is big enough to be cropped to fit in with the other portraits. It worked perfectly in Pillars 1 but I don't know if resolutions have changed for Deadfire.

    Here's my take on it:

Also I thought I'd share portraits I'm going to be using myself.

Where did you get the background for your own version? Did you edit it from the Obsidian ones? I'd like to play around with my custom portrait as well.

Yep, I just edited one of the Obsidian images:

Thanks mate. Yeah I think this would take some eye for drawing to actually pull of a decent version of your favorite custom portrait. I tried with photoshops pen tool/stroke path and well...

If the game only uses a (really) small version of the watercolor versions I think it wont be that bad. Would be cool if someone at Obsidians graphics department would release the background they use but Eivenne's work quite well.

Bless you for the idea of using the pen tool. Finally I found out that there's a way to make straight lines using a mouse ;) In my case, it turned out that fill path works better than stroke path, it' a bit easier to control the thickness of the lines. Your portrait looks quite nice! I would color the face a bit, so that it has more depth. But I'm still working on that myself :) Here's my new version, still work in progress:

  3. Instead of creating romances and trying to fulfill everyone's needs, just give us a stretch goal with a tool to write dialogues. That way we could download a romance mod that suits our preferences, a custom made NPC, Eder or 3 companions at the same time.

    Curiousity: Harry Potter-verse
    Hermoine or Ginny?

In essence: It happens. Watcher should be treated as a protagonist, and not as a "Player choice". In terms of "romantic relationship" imo.

    I don't suppose you do requests?  ;)

I'm not sure right now, but it would be a great idea to use this thread to share our watercolor portraits and make requests, that way we could create a nice collection for those who use custom portraits ;)

  5. Thank you guys for your kind words!

That's really nice work actually.  If you are using an editor that has layers (assume you are), and the character is on a separate layer, all you need to do is lower the layer opacity a little.  After that go over the highest brightness parts of the your portrait with an eraser to lower their opacity further so they are especially transparent.

Once those two things are done, it will be fairly spot on.

It's still a work in progress, I'll defenitely use your tips :)

iscalio, your version looks awesome! Would you mind sharing how you made it and which software you used?

The question still remains: how am I supposed to have a custom watercolour portrait if I have a custom standard portrait?

You have a year to work on your painting skill.

I've already started working on my custom watercolor portrait ;)

Here's the original portrait (borrowed from here):

And my watercolor portrait, compared to those from the Fig update:

  7. My laptop is slightly worse than yours. In PoE the only problems I had were pretty long loading times and small lag while moving items around in the inventory. In Tyranny loading times were even longer plus in some areas there were special weather effects which caused terrible lags, making it really hard to move characters. I finished the game anyway because the story is amazing, but dealing with those issues wasn't pleasant. Those effects were specific to the game and I believe they won't appear in PoE2, but someone from Obsidian mentioned that there will be storms, and in my experience they might affect the performance. Time to start saving up for a new PC :p

  8.

I'm not a fan of this stretch goal, because playing the game in another language and hearing the English VO at the same time makes me a bit distracted. Perhaps I'll need to play Deadfire in English and then I'll appreciate more voices.

But really, I can't wait for stretch goals with new content  ;)

That's why I played PoE1 in English from the start.

Besides, "Jelenioborze" does not appeal to me the same way as "Dyrwood"

You are absolutely right. The translation wasn't that good anyway, sometimes I was getting lost and I had to switch to English to understand what the writer meant exactly :D  But some names were awful, I especially hated different class names for female characters (barbarzynka, magiczka). I do hope that in Deadfire localizations will have better quality.

  9. There are also hunderds of portraits we can find online which look very similar to PoE's style. Now, if watercolor portraits will be used in conversations for every companion, we basically won't be able to use external portraits, because only our PC won't have one. I do hope they will reconsider that or at least make it optional. Of course you can argue that it's not a big deal, but those small things can make or break immersion.

  10. Seriously? Tyranny is running into the same problems as all those other Unity Engine RPGs before it? Now I'm worried. That's one thing I truly find frustrating with PoE. the performance problems. I'm running DA:I and Battlefield 4 with no problems but 3 hours playing PoE slows my PC down to a crawl. Although, in a way I was able to monitor my gaming hours better since when the game starts to slow down, I would simply decide to stop for the day instead of restarting my PC.

Still, I hope the devs can assure us again like they did in the announcement video that they we won't have to deal with this typical Unity engine problem again.

For me, PoE worked better than Tyranny. It took sometimes 5-8 minutes to load an area in Tyranny, I don't remember the exact times in PoE, because I haven't played it in a couple of months, but they were a bit shorter. Locations with edicts active had an awful performance, I could barely move the party because the game was lagging more than I could have imagined. PoE didn't have such demanding areas, but I'm anxious each time Obsidian announces graphic improvements. I have to mention that my laptop barely meets the minimum requirements, but such problems won't stop me from playing :D

  11. You've raised some excellent points there. To be totally honest with you, the first time I discovered romance in RPG, I was appalled by it, seriously. I created this female half elf character in BG2 with an elegant portrait and then Anomen starts hitting on her. I was thinking "what the **** is this sleazebag doing??" lol. Then I got to Viconia and I was surprised how romance could co-exist with video games.

I'm a woman and I'm always playing as a female character; I have to say, the romance with Anomen was awful. He's such an annoying character that I couldn't stand him and kicked him out of the party before finishing BG2 on my first playthrough. Later I installed a mod allowing romances with Viconia/Aerie/Jaheira at the same time and from that point on I almost always had all of them in my team. Well, apart from Aerie, she's a bit too whiny for my taste.

I really like romances in games, if we could get some deep relationships in Deadfire, I'm all for them. But if Obsidian doesn't feel like they can offer as real bounds with characters, I would rather have them not do romances at all than having another Anomen-like romance which makes me frustrated every time a dialogue pops up.

It is hard to list all the areas that are or are not open to feedback. I can say the party being five people is something we will stick with. For everything else, just ask - some stuff we will be able to chat about other stuff we won't. However, most things in a game can be nudged in one direction or another - which is usually what we are talking about.

Could someone ask in the Fig comments if it will be possible to mod 6 party members instead of 5? I haven't backed yet so I can't do that myself. Too bad no one from Obsidian is posting on the official forum.

  13. I don't care that much about the combat, with multi classes we can probably fulfill every role with only 5 characters. I'd like to have 6 party members purely because of the role-playing aspect, I want to read as many interactions between companions as possible, see how they influence quests. Many players will want to experience Deadfire with Aloth, Eder and Pallegina in their party, so basically during the first playthrough we will only get to know one new companion and that's not enough.

  14. I'm kind of glad that they decided to reset all levels, at the end of the playthrough there were too many spells and abilities, I didn't use 90% of them. Right now I'm only hoping that in the future someone will create a mod which balances levels in PoE1. I really don't need 16 levels, 8 would be just fine. Then we could pick up from this level in PoE2 and retain our builds.

Well, we'll just have to wait and see how it plays out, maybe this decision will make perfect sense.
