  1. Hi,

I encountered a few problems with the DLC :

    - New cards doesn't show up in collection. I only know about their existence, because I encountered them during gameplay.
    - scenairos don't give the loot reward from their reward tab (on normal difficulty). On the other hand, they are available for any new Valeros. (even those, which scenairos are didn't completed)

Also, I ask for some clarifications :

    - Could I encounter the new non-ownered cards outside of the Fighter's Tale scenairos ?
    - Should I receive the Loot cards as scenairo rewards, or is it working as designed ?

    Thank you.

For me, it sucks.  I specifically only ever wanted a Steam version.  I never wanted a mobile version.  I was only influenced  to support the mobile version by the implication that the Steam version would both come sooner than it did, and the fact, it would be F2P like the mobile version.

And that's the crux of the story. I would *never* have spent money on the mobile version if I wasn't assured that I'd be able to use that on the PC version as well.

Which, technically, I am, because I'd pay *again* for it. So F that.

The mobile version was nothing more than a way to see what it looked like, and a short hold over that turned into a year hold over.

And after they've said that the content will only have to be bought once, they screw us over.

Actually, this is my position too.

But, for me the Ambrassador Orgram deal is : for $18 I will get the Obsidian Edition, which include many character alts I don't unlocked yet, treasure cards, goblin themed things, some consumables, promos and 5000 gold. It's OK I guess, but still, this whole thing leaves a bad taste for me.

  3. Hi,

I just read the AMA, and huh. With all respect, why it is surprising that players want multiplayer supported for a cooperative boardgame? You would think that it is a basic need, especially when many boardgames on Steam already support it.

    I have a few questions :

    1. - Do you play any cross promotion/thematic bundles with the other upcoming digital Pathfinder projects ? (PF Kingmaker CRPG and the PF Duels CCG)

It would be nice to see the Kingmaker campaign's companions as allies or characters, (but I guess the later is too much to ask) for example.

    2. - When we will see the first part of Rise of the Goblins in the game? Is it weeks, months, next year?

    3. - Are there any other currently unrevealed content updates planned for the near future?

    4. - Is there any plans to ever bring back quest mode, or do something similar ?

  4. I don't agree, as if you want to buy chests, you already have options for that. And I don't buy chests with money, as that's the only thing I can spend my gold on anyway.

If bundles wouldn't have oversized chest component to increase the price and there would be at least a partial return for already purchased items I would have purchased both this and possibly several earlier bundles. Yes, then it would be small amounts of money/bundle, but this way I purchased exactly nothing.

  5. My hope is that Obsidian follows a path like the following:

    1. Finish Runelords for mobile.

    2. Finalize everything and fix the major bugs.

    3. Release for Steam.

    4. Get great reviews and make bucketfulls of money.

    5. Proceed with the subsequent base sets.

I, too, would like to see Mummy's Mask next, as it has the best designed characters accompanied by good theme and flavor. But I'm okay with anything if we get all the base sets eventually. :)

I completely agree with Borissimo on every point, I just want to add why I think Mummy's Mask should be the next set :

    - Skulls & Shackles had some innovations, but the ship mechanic was very hit/miss based on who you ask. I personally hated it, as it was very abstract and not very fun. Also, ships would need unique mechanics implemented into the game, which are only usefull for S&S

    - Wrath has many negative responses, thanks to it's sometimes very random difficulty spikes, up to unwinnable scenairos due to luck. As a personal note, I also think the heroes vs. demons theme was done to death in games. Because Wrath characters are different in power level (better boons, mythic charges etc) than n other sets, they would interact badly with some of the phone release functions, like moving characters between parties. (if it will be enabled between sets mid-campaign).

    - and now we have Mummy's Mask. It's the best received set since RotR, and introduces mechanics which could benefit other parts of the Pathfinder App, like curses, triggers and traders could really spice up quest mode. Traders could make finding treasure cards easier, and triggers give exploration powers a well deserved risk aspect. Also, interest for MM currently is high with people playing the physical game.

If you enjoy a new adventure only for a weekend (which I guess assume you don't play much quest mode), then the game is VERY possibly not for you. They will never release a new AP in every 2 weeks for example.

    lol, wut?

Seriously, I've had my account on BGG for over a decade. Have a shelf of RPG books. Played and spent money on online card games like Clash of the Dragons. I have a good friend with the physical version (but it is in German so we don't play). Single player video games that take more than 5 minutes at a time are probably my biggest hobby. And this game isn't for me? No that isn't it.

The problem isn't the game, the mechanics, the platform, or anything else mechanical. The problem is their codebase, how sloppy it must be, and how having it that sloppy slows down content release.

Setting aside the UI stuff and artwork the gameplay is very straight forward. Before you begin programming something like this you need to map out all the trigger points and objects very robustly. And since in this game when there is a conflict the active player decides which goes first you don't even need to program much conflict resolution. I have yet to see a single card that does anything fancier than modifying a die roll, moving cards from one pile to another, or preventing other card from being played. The two cards that modifies a result after the die is rolled is the fanciest thing in the game.  All those functions should be mapped out and tight.

Frankly at the time they left beta stage and opened to the public the code should have been at the stage where an adventure path could have been released every month, treasure cards mid month, and new quest combinations with preset locations/cards/adventures on weeks 2 & 4 (like a tournament game of bridge where the hands are already dealt and the same for everyone).

This is mickey mouse stuff. If they want me to stick around they should have a weekly challenge a la Sentinels of the Multiverse. Bought the season pass? Good now you can play this preset adventure with all the variables set. That way you could see what Mersi would be like if you didn't choose Acrobat. THAT IS THE POWER OF THE PLATFORM. What we actually have is just a streamlined version of the card game. They could in fact ditch the treasure cards if they rolled out weekly challenges for the buyers, and that would be enough of a hook. Then the forums would be buzzing with discussion on how to beat a particular challenge instead of asking if I'll have to replace my iPad before the season pass runs out.

When I have to ask why management is making bad decisions or accepts poor code I have to then ask myself why I should stick around.

Congrats to your BGG (I have one too) acount and other random things are completely unrelated to what I said. I would even say that if you play physical boardames then your stance of "we need weekly updates/challenges" is puzzling at least.

Yeah, because you get a new update for your physical boardgames that often...

We have almost unlimited replayability and hundreds of possible random scenairos in quest mode - including random villains+henchmen+locations+special rules on hgher difficulty levels. This increases with every AP release. I don't see that a predefined challenge scenairo twice a month would make much sense - wich would still provide content for players like you about 2-3 hours a month at most.

BTW, I also don't understand what "fancy" cards you want to see. Do you recognize that the app is based on a physical game which has the same non-fancy (by your standard) interactions ?

Basically you are complaining for things which were never promised by the devs, don't seems to be happening anytime soon, and which are somewhat out-of-scope for the game. This is why I'm still saying that it's VERY probably not for you.

The only thing I agree with that the game should be mostly bugless by now, and it's still full of problems... and they should be able to keep the roughly 1 AP/month schelude for RotR.

  7. If at a 6 player game you can throw a bunch of blessings on any check then you either very lucky or playing something wrong. At 6 players most blessings and allies get used on exploration or critical checks.

Generally speaking, I'm against to include every random house rule into the game, especilly if it nerfes a complete card type, which very reason to exist is to help with checks outsde of a character's speciality.

If you enjoy a new adventure only for a weekend (which I guess assume you don't play much quest mode), then the game is VERY possibly not for you.

"Then maybe this game isn't for you" == Then maybe this game isn't for most people then.  Not every game has to completely keep you hooked to it for 100% of your gaming time... and that is one of the better things about board games, shorter sessions.

    ...

This is the complete problem though.    While this game has lots of replayability, it's still a board game in app form that has real issues with content.

It's not too late for them to fix this for Skulls and Shackles (if they ever get this far).

The fact that Quest mode itself doesn't go all the way to Adventure Path 6 is really telling how much content just wasn't ready.

    1. This was exactly my point. This game is not for most people, it was never supposed to compete with Pokemon Go for example. It has a different (smaller, but tighter) target audience.

    2. If you are not "hooked" with the game, and don't even really play much with what available, then I don't understand why you request much more updates

    3. For a boardgame it really doesn't have "real issues with content"... as far I know, i never seen a boardgame with weekly updates, and that what you are asking for.

    4. Just a sidenote : most online games in my knowledge don't have weekly/biweekly updates. So it's hardly a dealbreaker against Pathfinder.

    5. Nobody said that anything up to AP 6 is ready. It was specifically pointed out, that AP's will be released in some time, and for the 25 USD you get everything when it is released. (basically a base game + expansion pass purchase model)

The only thing I agree with, that they should add more content to quest mode. Other things like new characters are already planned and most likely under development.

All the physical board game are going in the history books... It's quite normal when 4 children can connect on the internet from their own homes (and country) and play the digital version of the same game (and there is a digital version of everything now).

The physical version is a way funnier but new players hardly know it while they are after shooter or real-time strategy game or every other game for pc or playstation or xbox or ... and only few parents have ever played it. You need more statistical data and trend analysis to change that. I'm sorry, but also the physical books are going to disappear (trees all around the world are very happy about that) :)

When I said a year I mean a player who play occasionally for months perhaps a year. I rushed down my thoughts and my English killed me..

Anyway we talk about 20.000 gold in total with 200 gold/h in my (newbie) case, for 100 h.

So 100 h with sessions of 1h/day are 100 days. If you play 2 times a week are 50 weeks (about 1 year).

My maths is quite good, the statistical distribution of casual or dedicated players with the average playtime then is just a rough estimation.. :)

Please, don't state your personal opinion as if it were a fact.

    1. I didn't found a newer source in a 15 second google search, but ICV2 listed a growth from $100 million to $125 million from 2013 to 2014 on hobby boardgame market, which is a 25% growth

    http://icv2.com/articles/markets/view/32102/hobby-games-market-climbs-880-million

    2. I have a few dozen boardgames on my shelf, and about 80% of them is not available digital, at least not legally

    3. You keep ignoring the fact that scenairo reward is not the only gold income. I think you can count at least a extra 20-30% for defeating monsters, closing locations

    4. 1 scenairo/hour will be better as you get more experinced in the game. For me playing a 3 character quest mode scenairo is about 20 mins for around 150 gold. (125 reward + other things)

Also, if you don't paly regulary then it's expeted that you won't be able to unlock everything. As with every f2p game : grind or pay. If you don't spend either money or time as a resource you won't get a return.

My only purchase was a 200 gold/day once (that's less than 6000 gold, as I wasn't able to claim it every day), and some treasure chest from humblebundle which is irrelevant for the regular content's unlock. I was able to unlock everything so far, and I have gold waiting for AP 4. I play almost exclusively only while traveling to work, and not even every day. So getting everything fro free is totally possible.

  10. Hi, I tried some rounds with my 3-party (all I have at the moment)... and I got:

    - 150 gold in Story mode at scenario 0-2 Legendary (before 200)

    - 90 gold in Quest mode in easy difficulty (party is round levels 7)

Now, clearly I m forced to add quickly a 4th character and to get practice with it to restore the gold earned to 200 per match in Story mode, with the easiest scenario I can afford at Legendary...

And as f2p I can't choose the 2000 gold character if I want the Char add-on deck (meanly for Deck C cards) avoiding wastefulness...

So, at the moment I need:

    - 1500 gold for a 4th char

    - 4000 gold for Adventure 2 (but it could be premature cause I can't complete actually Adventure 1 and I have to play at Legendary to stack gold efficiently for chars...)

    so the last becomes:

    - 1500 * 4 (missing 'cheap' chars) + 10000 (character add-on deck)

       = 16.000 gold = 80 rounds = ~50 h playing 0-2 legendary ...

    Then:

    - 4000 * 2/3 for the expansions ...

So, the game is really great but if you want just relax and fun you have to wait a year at least to complete the collection...

And a little consideration about the price in real money... 27 € for a digital board game on Android is quite out the market. You have a hundred of competitors at 5-10 € (and Pillars of Eternity is about 45 € on steam) ...

And the game is very complex to learn and master... A lot of players try it and then go next one to get cheap fun.

27€ is a good price for the physical board game in the shop but that was the previous era... and I'm sorry about that cause I really enjoyed playing those games for hours with my friends around a table..

In my personal opinion at 15€ you ll triple the sells per month at least and double the continuous players that can then buy other new expansions (still for real money). Anyway you could try a promo period to see the outcome. And at 10€ I'd already bought it :)

    Hi,

Mostly I don't agree with your points, and even the math seems wrong. Also, you should note that getting everything for free is not supposed to be too easy.

    - in one round you don't get 200 gold. You get more for closing locations, defeating monsters etc.

    - I dont understand that how playing around 50 hours is equal to wait for a year

    - I think the price is right where it is. It is basically $0 if you play for free, and $25 is basically game+expansion pass

Also, I think you are wrong about the "Era" when stating this :

"27€ is a good price for the physical board game in the shop but that was the previous era... and I'm sorry about that cause I really enjoyed playing those games for hours with my friends around a table.."

The physical version of the game costs $59,99 ( which is AP0-1) + $19.99 for every AP after te first. Since the 4th base set will be released soon, I don't think physical boardgames did lost their appeal, and definitely not Pathfinder ACG.

Also, I don't think PAthfinder Adventures targets the same market as those very cheap and quick to forgat games on the Android store.

I'm waiting to spend my $25 when we get the Steam release. At that point I will be able to still play solo on my phone and play multiplayer on my PC. As we play the physical game again and again, I think it will be the same for the online version. Just my 2 cents.

On Steam it may be compared to other board game implementations, which mostly don't have any regular update, or most slower than a monthly-bimonthly release.
