Your arguments are a bit vague so it's difficult to address them.

What exactly costs Guile? Backstab and Assassinate are passives and thus cost nothing.

Which invisibility has recovery but is expensive? Shadowing Beyond is rather expensive but has no recovery. Smoke Veil is not expensive but has recovery.

Assassin has high PEN from stealth and invisibility, but the even more important part is the +25 Accuracy.

This means Assassin can have very impactful strikes from stealth/invisibility - not only with weapons but more importantly with AoE CC or -damaging attacks.

All the recovery and positioning issues could be avoided with an arquebus as I remember have told you about. :) It's not intuitive and weird but the arquebus is the best single target Assassination weapon by far.

If you want to go the single target route it's best to use an Assassin without the party in tow and kill enemies one by one. The party can be parked aside in case of emergency. That way you can solve nearly all encounters. For example the Concelhaut fight is very difficult for an underleveled party but easy for an underleveled lonely Assassin.

Assassin is not the best team player but very effective when acting alone (not necessarily solo game - but scouting ahead and thinning out difficult encounters before the whole party comes in).

You can do fun stuff with an Assassin: like stacking Assassinate and Lion's Sprint for +40 alpha strike accuracy and such things.

Why not engage the enemies with your party, and approach their backline with an Assassin to start taking them out? My only gripe with this would be having enough Guile to consistently re-hide after a kill and still have some left for an offensive ability on another target.

I actually switch all the Companions and Sidekicks in and out of the party depending on which encounters I feel they will contribute most in. Part of it is also me testing as many build ideas as I can, in the hope I can eventually manage to come up with one good build for each of then.

The build I've posted this year are those I feel I've already perfected with my old Fate Testarossa and Cunning Duelist saves, and I'm going to start a new playthrough to polish up the builds for the rest.

Eder is actually one of the tougher ones; guy is Ol' Reliable, but I've yet to figure out something that can actually make him pop. Was testing a Riposte build the last two times, but it's not super exciting even if it works... maybe I'll try something else in the new run

This is a fantastic build for Eder (at least it used to be, no idea if anything changed:

  3. They have officially killed Baldur's Gate for me. This is just DOS3 that is trying to cash in on BG name. Absolutely disgusting. Fortunately I am not a slave to nostalgia so I'm glad to know in advance that I need to look elsewhere for my gaming needs :)

Hmmm - I don't see particularly great synergy effects with Loremasters in general... 🤷‍♂️

Well - maybe Alacrity + Sure-Handed Ila + Mith Fyr + Kalakoth's Minor Blights is nice. It's easy to maintain both chants with a Troubadour.

Or using the Bloodmage for endless fast-buffing and the Troubadour's Brisk Recitation with Ancient Memory for dishing out invocations non-stop while healing the Blood Sacrifice?

No idea if that's cool - I didn't really play Loremasters much... But at least you'll have plenty of refillable resources.

They used to be extremely powerful with Set To Their Purpose giving Brilliant and I've been trying to replicate that somehow with Blood Magic, but I start thinking that it's simply not worth the effort. Thanks for the feedback though :)

Blood Mage is already OP if you only cast Corrosive Siphon + Blood Sacrifice nonstop and nothing else. Just put it into the AI as an endless loop and you're good. :)

Tactician: I don't agree 100%. It's way easier to exploit its strengths the less party members you have. It's a supergood choice for solo or duo runs and becomes more tedious and fiddly once you add more guys.

Streetfighter is only OP because of Powder Burns. If that didn't cause Distracted (or all PER-afflictions wouldn't contain Flanked) that subclass would be reasonably well balanced. With blunderbusses it's just too easy to stay "flanked" all the time without actually suffering from it (meaning getting slapped in the face, ears and neck).

Troubadour is OP because you have to do nothing to make it better than any other chanter. Some other subclasses are OP because you can easily circumvent their cons - but Troubadour is just better right from the shelf. If you have no clue what you're doing in Deadfire: grab a Troubadour. Same with Trickster I would argue.

Would you say Troubadour/BM is a good multiclass combo? I've been struggling trying to build a powerful Loremaster recently.

    maybe not pointless. exploitive? yeah.

immediate after completing port maje, is possible to start the lucrative ship combat mini-game. scaling or non-scaling don't matter. got scaling active and don't want the xp bloat? then do not turn in ship bounties. sink ships in the deafire for negligible xp while acquiring 1007 including superb gear and unique items. start nekataka at level 6, but with elite gear and a deep well o' money. use ship bounties as strategic insta-level-up opportunities as desired. converse, if you want quick xp, then there is no faster and easier route than the ship bounties. start nekataka at level +11? start nekataka at +11 and with superb gear and every purchase-worthy item in the game.

is not pointless, but is cheesy and exploitive.

    HA! Good Fun!

How far can you get with that, though? I mean at the start you have a poor ship with weak cannons, even sinking similarly weak ships is a bit of a struggle, and you can't really board at that level 😕

Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure it's called Ancestor's Memory. :)

    Whoops. Yeah.

Eder DOES feel like the best written character in the game by far. Eric Fenstermaker did a great job with him. It is very unfortunate that Chris Avellone did not write anything for Deadfire companions, because his Durance was pretty neat too, but hey at least he wrote Jubilost in Kingmaker 😛

  8. This build is so effective that I was considering building my whole team around it. 3 of these with immunity to flanked gear, Tactician/Wizard for unlimited nukes and maybe a support in the last slot. Ultimately, I've decided against it since I like variety, but I'm running Eder with this setup and he's a monster tank.

So you are proposing that an RPG won't sell well, if it doesn't have multiplayer?

PoE1 sold really well, and was singleplayer. So what was the problem with PoE2? Smaller crowdfunding profile? People not liking PoE2 that much? Critics not liking PoE2 that much? Setting that doesn't play on nostalgia? People who bought PoE1 didn't actually like it? Or didn't complete it, and didn't buy the sequel? The colour and humor of DoS is more markatable, then grim, serious and lore heavy focus of PoE?

That's because ninjas > pirates ofc.

  10. I'm interested about getting into Atelier too. Can someone please tell me:

How's the gameplay? Similar to old Final Fantasy titles, or is this another action RPG crap? Similar to any other game?

How cheesy is the story and characters? Is this the standard where a female character spends the whole game abusing the male hero verbally and physically despite having hidden feelings for him, which of course she won't admit because baka? Or is it something worth checking out?

Frostseeker is a hunting bow, yes? (i picked Hunting bow as my third weapon prof, after finding skeletons being completely immune to piercing was kind of a bugger...)

Nope, it's a War Bow. This was my go-to weapon for a single class Ydwin before the nerfs, but now I'm thinking Aamina's Legacy might be better.

Also Essence Interrupter is worth considering, but knowing Obsidian they still haven't fixed the weapon yet and I wouldn't want to destroy unique loot ._.

Please, add her to the party and check first. Resting only clears injuries accumulated by characters currently in your party, whenever you rest and year, or sleep in an inn.

Too late, she's already dead. But like I said before, other characters never perma die, and they also have low level and 0 gear so each ship combat there's a trail of bodies on the deck.

So it would seem that if character gets injured while in the party, these injuries remain and they can die during ship combat. But if the character was not injured in the party, then he can die as many times as he wants and will always get back up after combat. Well to me that is an inconsistency at the very least and it's worth fixing.

This isn't a bug.  NPC companions accrue injuries when knocked unconscious, whether they are in your active party or not.  After enough injuries are accrued, NPC companions will die permanently -- again, whether they are in your active party or not.

If you have "[c]ompletely ignored her", then Xoti is very likely at a low level and has poor equipment.  Since NPCs do not level up unless added to your party, she has very likely been rendered unconscious in multiple ship battles, particularly as you have engaged higher level crews.  Thus, if it happens sufficiently many times, she is gone for good.

This applies to all NPC companions, not just Xoti.  It also applies to the PC, although of course it's game over in that event.

To avoid this, add her to the party, rest to clear any existing injuries, and level her up.  Equipping her with better gear from your supply of spare equipment will help too.

Nah man this happened even after a rest. I don't think I need to add companions manually and rest with them to clear injuries because no one else ever died permanently and they're all just a bunch of low level scrubs.

  14. I have removed Xoti from my team as soon as I reached Neketaka. Completely ignored her afterwards.. until I started doing ship combat (boarding).

For each combat, the game assigns you a few random party members to help out. They are controlled by the AI. Normally, when a character like this is defeated, he is simply knocked out and gets up after combat, which is how it works on my save.

Not for Xoti, though. When Xoti is defeated, she perma-dies. Just like that. This is very annoying because I have to either hope that she doesn't appear during the ship combat at all, or that her AI doesn't let her kill herself.

I'll probably just let her die to avoid the headache, but I'd recommend fixing this for the future.
