  1. I've read over this thread and it seems to me that the main point of the OP's post as well as Davionic's keeps getting missed.   Everyone keeps talking about how FoW  helps with tactics and such, this maybe true, however, folks miss the fact that we are dealing with TWO types of FoW here.  Only one type of FoW is the problem.  This being the grey covering the map AFTER you have opened the map by walking it's ground and besting it's monsters.  PoE has no wandering monsters...  Once you have cleared an area it stays cleared.  This being the case, of what use is this hazy grey FoW?  There is no monster waiting to jump out from behind a tree in any area that you have already cleared of said monsters.  The main black cloud FoW is not a issue, it's needed and it add much to the game, but, once a map is cleared why can't I rid myself of that odd grey mist that follows me around everywhere and be able to finally enjoy the wonder that is PoE??

That's the main issue as I read it.   Leave the main black FoW  alone, but give us an option to turn of the weird gray fog that follows us around like a love sick ghost...

Agreed.  I actually wouldn't ask for this if the console command really worked "properly" (it doesn't - it still glitches out).  I wouldn't report a console command that's not working "right" as a bug though.

I'm perfectly fine with black FoW until I've visited an area on the map.  After that, I really would prefer that there wasn't ANY FoW.  Admittedly, if this game had continuing area-refresh, new wandering monsters and so on, again I wouldn't ask for it.  But the game doesn't refresh areas, and doesn't provide refreshed wandering monsters either.  So seems as if they could offer an option to turn off the leftover FoW....

  2. I think you are making a big mistake there.  You are saying the mobile market is to blame for these companies now running into issues, the truth is the company is just run like ****.  Any company that makes 5 billion dollars and is somehow in financial trouble only has one thing to blame.  **** leadership, cause that is the only thing that can cause that hard a fall that fast. But easy billion dollar fluke success doesn't mean you know how to run a business, it means you got lucky, and it isn't a shocker that someone who found instant success might not know how to duplicate it or keep themselves liquid while trying.

Also no the "Candy Crush" variants haven't failed.  They just aren't making a million a week.  That's like saying the original Laura Croft reboot failed because it only sold one million copies.  Which is actually something Square Enix claimed at the time, they must have exaggerated though since the game recently got a sequel that probably cost more than the original.  You don't need 100 million downloads to make money with a mobile game.  You might not even need 1 million.

Well, that might depend on how much profit a dev of that sort of game thinks is "making enough money"!  I wouldn't have any idea, myself - maybe they all look at the Candy Crush numbers and think that's the only way to go?

  3. Can't answer poll; both are my favorite.  You should have included a third choice: both

I probably made and deleted 25 toons when I first started WoW.  Ditto RIFT.  Ditto PoE.  I don't have a complete in this game yet

If you haven't performed a full playthrough of PoE then "both" would kinda be a lie of sorts, no? I'm pretty sure you are a play-test vote.

Nope.  Because you can't do a "complete" when there's still WM2 coming next month.  That's when I'll have 10 or 15 completes.  PoE isn't complete yet, so you can't have a complete game....

  4. @everyone - I won't play any game which requires I play a male toon, no matter how "wonderful" the game.  And that goes double for Torment, since I'm very familiar with that universe from years and years of Dragon Mag - and I simply don't like it one bit.  That game doesn't need a third strike - it's already out for me, with only two.

I liked ME1 - though having to play the later ones through origin (I think it was) meant I just wasn't going there.  Bad enough I have to play Skyrim and ME1 through steam....  And the Fallouts - well, yeah, they're really great games.  But I grew up in the era where we spent time in school nearly every day going over duck and cover, and what could happen if an atomic bomb happened near us - it got to where I was reliving some of the horrific films we saw in school, in my dreams so I don't play them any more.  Yes, it was a long time ago - but it's still revisiting something I'd rather not.

PoE and Skyrim (well, TES games generally) suit me fine.  They don't really reference anything IRL, and I can play females in them.  Yep.  I'm nitnoidy that way.

  5. Can't answer poll; both are my favorite.  You should have included a third choice: both.

The first thing I do with a game (ANY game, this includes MMOs) is playtest to determine a "working hypothesis" for favorite first class/race/general build to play.  Then I'll play for a while to see if the testing was right.  If it was, I do a complete on that toon.  If playtesting was off for some reason, it's back to the drawing board.

I probably made and deleted 25 toons when I first started WoW.  Ditto RIFT.  Ditto PoE.  I don't have a complete in this game yet, because I won't until WMII is released and I can play the whole thing.

For PoE my complete game main will be a Ranger with a Wolf pet, and 5 custom companions.  (I never use premades; hate the whole idea of them, always have.)

  6. Interesting discussion.  Bottom line for me:  most companies are NOT making games I want to play.  I detest phones of any sort, and I wouldn't play a game on a phone to save my sanity (yeah, I'd rather go round the bend than mess with that sort of crap on a phone) - however, it's obvious that I'm about 4 generations out of date....

Then there's the issue with not having unlimited bandwidth.  All I hope is I can keep finding games to have fun with that I can play on my desktop AND for which I can afford the download bandwidth.  I figure I have 30 to 40 more years of life, so all of the above may not even come close to happening.... And if that's the case, well, I guess I'll still be playing Skyrim, POE etc. assuming computers down the road will run them....

[And hey guys - be nice to each other okay?  Otherwise Cant will whack y'all and I do enjoy reading what you post!]

  7. And this is why I've begun playing only high resolve PCs.  I HATE having to kill my way through a game.  And the only way to not do that in most games of this sort is to finagle around with the "speech" perk (whatever it may be called in any given game).  I'm not going into my rant about no way other than killing to advance.  Not right now.

I suppose you can take it as read though....

  8. I don't honestly like rogues in this game.  And I'm not honestly thrilled with mages either....

I make a custom party:  looks like this (mostly -sometimes I have a bit different compo, but generally....)

    PC Ranger

    Custom party NPCs:

    Barbarian

    Paladin

    Fighter

    Druid

.... and a mage if I have to.....  but really - I usually have to, because I at least understand the mechanics.  Ciphers et al.... eh, no thanks - WAY too hinky for me.

  9. tjay, you're a prince.  Only coding I've done (besides html and css) was years ago with mushcode.  I've never done any "real" programming.  Thanks for all your hard work, but I may just not use the mod now since it looks like it's going to be problematic throughout the PoE lifetime and game line.  Sad, but then again, I can't afford to download the patches anyway *shrug*.

Have fun with the new game, and best of luck to you in the future!

  10. Darcozzi Paladini are a joy to play for anyone who's ever wanted to be Don Quixote.

Um.  I have to say I've never once in nearly 70 years been interested in being Don Quixote.

But on topic.... I have found that for my particular playstyle, PC with high resolve is a necessity - backed up with 5 created group members to fill out the other slots.  I don't ever use the dev-created extras.

  11. Heh.  Interesting thread.  We use black powder guns - both pistol and rifle - and we don't use the "modern" version.  The game actually does a really good job of "explicating" the difficulty, not to mention the TIME, involved in shooting, and then reloading from scratch.... before being able to shoot again.

Now, I have to say that given the real firepower of a bow in this game, I don't ever bother with the guns.  But I LOVE that the devs got the whole gun thing right.  IRL, I prefer killing an elk with a modern rifle - better percentage of clean one-shot kills for instance; but I also understand and appreciate the viability of stalk and kill at close range with bow - or black powder.

Believe me - stalking an elk to close range, and making a kill with a bow or black powder gun.... THAT is a thrill.  I'm privileged to have accomplished that a few times in my life.  But that's not why I play a game.  I play games like this to explore, adventure....  Still, I give the devs MAD props that they didn't go the John Wayne route with guns.

  12. You know.... the slow scout doesn't bother me.  I like taking my time.  I understand that others have the opp reaction though!  But that's one thing I do in any game (including MMOs - to the total disgust of most others) - I take my time and I look at EVERY CORNER.  In slow scout mode.

Games for me are exploration of unknown territory.  I channel Christopher Columbus probably - talk about a walk (eh, okay, a sail....) into a whole other world!  But that's actually WHY I play games - because discovering the unknown is FAR more involving than simply killing mobs.
