  1. Now that this has been moved to Technical Support, you'd want to include what's asked for here

You can't include these files in the majority of cases. A map error simply throws you back into the main menu and no file is created. Same with freezes. If you quit the game via task manager - which is the only option, once a freeze occurs - again, no file created. The only instances where the required files are created are outright CTDs. I had two of them, but countless freezes and a number of map loading errors.

To be fair the problem is not the writing team, they did their best. The issue is open world, obs being far too ambitious with too many major changes, so not enough resources, the focus being on everything but the writing, something had to give. I think they did as best they could with the time available, but clearly Sawyer had many other priorities from the start and didn’t really place any importance on the narrative.

I agree, well partly. What really gets old very fast is the lack of variety of scripted events on board. There's only so many times you can get the message of your crew being playing a game before it gets a nuisance rather than a fun event.

  3. Hello Abaris,

I'm sorry you are getting freeze issues during your playthrough.  My best recommendation for people who hadn't had this problem until adding DLC is to uninstall and reinstall the entire game at once.  If that doesn't fix it for you, then would you be able to reproduce the issue and then send us a copy of your output_log.txt file.  If needed, you can find instructions on how to obtain that file here.  You can either provide a link to your file via Dropbox or you may attach it to an email for us at support@obsidian.net. If you do email us, please link this post and mention your forum username so that we may identify you easily.

Thank you and sorry for the inconvenience this has caused.

    Thanks for the reply.

The problem is, I can reproduce the issue, but not at the exact same stage. I enter character creation and it happens at some point. Sometimes as early as selecting the race, sometimes as late as selecting a name. Savegames are working fine for the most part.

  4. I for one got freezes all over the game.

Character creation, freeze. It's a gamble if it works or not. Certain transitions, freeze. And by that I mean certain transitions, such as exiting the Valian trade company. It always freezes there. I have to hard quit to desktop. After reloading the autosave it's working again. There's also another point that always results in a map loading error. Can't name it because this is the no spoiler section, but it's reproducable. Again, reloading takes care of the issue. Level scaling, browsing through the character menus, sometimes results in a freeze. Again, a gamble. If the whole party is levelling, I made it my business to always save between characters, so that I don't have to go through the whole process again.

Oh, yes. As has been suggested, I have disabled the steam overlay and I am always starting the game through the alias on my desktop with administrator privileges.

  5. It's no longer pink, but now I can't start a new game or load an existing one. It's stuck on the loading screen for minutes without anything happening. I attached links to the required files.

If needed, here are my system specs:

    AMD A8-6600K

    Win 7 64

    8 Gigs Ram

Geforce GTX 650ti, latest drivers clean install.

Last edit: Seems like steam did a terrible mashup with my game's data. I reinstalled it, repaired it and repaired it again. Second repair finally did the trick and it seems like I'm able to play again.

    Thanks for your support.

  6. Can't attach the screenshot I made, since it says, I'm not allowed to use that image extension. But after an extremely long loading period, I arrive at a loading screen where the normally woodlike menu is pink.

Thhe White March backdrop is there, but every clickable area of the menu is pink and I can't see the version number of my game nor the different options.

Anyone else has this? Any suggestions?

I was in the beta program on steam but I can't see how I could reroll to a previous version short of uninstalling the whole game.

  7. The biggest mistake is to expect D&D rules where no D&D rules are involved.

Even if it doesn't seem so at first glance, you can create a useful character that totally goes against the grain of the particular class. I once played a sturdy mage, being equally handy with steel and spells. I have to say, it was the most fun character I ever played and I have to try it again sometime.

  8.

Your experience with New Vegas seems like a pretty severe outlier, that game has a ton issues, especially freezes and crashes, but not being able to get it to run at all, is much less common.

Yes, but the game wasn't designed for todays hardware and software technology. If I ran it in it's vanilla state, it wouldn't start at all or crash randomly, That's why the modding community came up with a ton of fixes for 64 bit systems and, most of all, the 4GB patch. Result, it starts and runs without any CTDs to speak of.

  9. I've played a lot of games in my life. This has bugs, though I'm hard pressed to call them many, but compared to other games it's virtually bugfree. Not a single CTD since it first came out, which is virtually a premiere for me. Playable, enjoyable and no broken quests, as far as I am concerned. Granted, I don't do number crunching, so I wwouldn't even know if some stat doesn't do exactly what it's supposed to do.

So, major butthurt, unless the OP is really one of the unlucky ones running into bugs I never encountered.

Scenario 1: You're in the middle of something, you know it'll be a big hassle to get back to fight off the invasion. You autoresolve, you lose a couple of buildings, you rebuild them. Takes you 20 seconds and some gold (which you'll be swimming in after midgame).

Yeah, I'm not really fretting over it, but I wouldn't call it a well thought out feature either. Regardless how good your security or your henchmen are, you're losing stuff and people in a fight that would be rersolved within seconds manually.

And what is bad about Zahua other than the drugged up tribal schtick? With heavy armor and fists or weapons he does great. I've got him in the Sanguine Plate, Shod in Faith boots and Durgan enhanced Tide Fall greatsword and he is a monster.

There's really nothing bad about him. With the right equipment he's easily one of the strongest characters you will ever get.
