  1. I'm just gonna say that I'm playing on Normal with a non-min/max group -- myself, a hireling Priest, & 4 NPCs. I'm in the Dyrwood Ruins in Act 2, & having a load of fun. The challenge level on Normal is just about right for me.

I don't just face-roll through spamming auto-attacks, either: I'm pausing, buffing, casting spells, summoning my bard's lil buddies, dropping END heals, & so on. & every now & then, I still have to reload. While I think it's woefully obvious that the OP is having some funzies with this post, I'm quite bemused by the number of people who are taking it seriously.

I recall doing much the same in BG1 & 2, & reading this thread makes me wonder if the rest of you & I are all playing the same games. Like, I dunno, maybe you guys got hold of the Super Secret Uber-Gimp Mode version of those games, or something.

Yea, ya, I know: someone is going to just say "or maybe you suck." Because, you know, that's the way "discussion" goes on the Interwebby thing these days, when most people can't even figure out what an "argument" is, much less formulate or refute one.

One last point: if you don't think BG2 was cheesable, then you didn't play BG2. Period. Trap-cheesing of dragons, anyone??? Please.

  2. I read the OP & all I could do was /facepalm.

Why keep adventuring? I dunno, dude: you won. Don't bother clearing out the levels below your stronghold, because  you're the WINZORZ. Don't bother going to Defiance Bay & seeing what's going on there. Don't bother with anything else, in fact; just burn the CD & move on with your life, cuz you so totally won the game & know everything about it from your Act 1 accomplishments.

Or, perhaps you're just trolling. I say that, because -- quite frankly -- I'm having great difficulty taking the OP seriously.

  3. I could probably quote any of the PoE companions ... if they said the same things over & over & over again, like they do in BG1 & BG2.

But, since they don't seem to do so, I'm never sure what they're going to say next, & my utterly subjective, personal opinion is that both Eder & Aloth are fairly interesting individuals.

    YMMV.

  4.

A wizard in this setting is better off being an idiot who can lift wagons. In fact, wizard, because of almost exclusively friendly-fire AOEs, and because all combat in this game is "moshpit clump", is the class who suffers most from having high INT.

It's much better to have a 20 might 3 int wizard than a balanced one or god forbid high int low might. That's how this system is built.

Go on, explain how to your understanding might stat affects gun damage in this setting. Make yourself look intelligent :)

High Int creates yellow friendly-safe zones on the outer edges of your AoE, so that you can use it safer. So high-Int wizards....kind of a good thing.

But go on. Continue regaling me with your knowledge of stats and builds in PoE.

I thought the "safety zone" aspect of the AoE was just a feature of AoE spells ... I had no idea that INT affects it.

  5. I don't hate the OP for his opinion. I don't share it, but I don't hate him for expressing it.

Like some other posters, however, I am a bit bewildered by some of the OP's opinions. For example, I'm looking forward to completing the game & then replaying it with a different main character & some different party members. Certainly I'm enjoying playing it as much as I ever did BG1, & almost as much as I ever did BG2. I sort of agree about the long load times, but it's not breakin' my game.

    & that's my opinion.

  6. I agree that normal difficulty is well tuned for my desired challenge level. I disagree with your comment on the camping supply limit. If anything, 4 is too much on normal difficulty. I usually rest once per dungeon, though I've only just made it to Defiance Bay so far.

I've lost track of the times most of my party has been hurt badly & needed to rest, especially after big fights. The issue is this: having to mouse all the way back out of an empty dungeon, travel all the way back to town, & then mouse all the way back through an empty dungeon is simply not fun.

I can't help thinking that perhaps resting "in the wild" should not use camping supplies, but camping *in a dungeon* does. That would help, a little bit. Regardless, it almost feels like the only reason I'm mentioning this as an "issue" in the first place is that otherwise, I feel like I'm implying the game is flawless, & we all know that's not true ;)

  7. Where I am in-game: Act 2, chasing the Leaden Key. I just finished the "Blood Legacy" quest.

So far, I've only encountered two things about this game I don't like ....

    A. Load screens feel "long," & the further I get into the game, the longer Quick Saves seem to take.

    B. The 4-rest limit on camping supplies adds tedium, not fun :(

I can't think of anything else negative to say about this game ... I haven't had this much fun with a single-player RPG since .... well, I can't remember. Yesterday, I spent close to 8 hours hacking on this game, & loved every minute of it. I haven't done that since probably NWN2, at least. This game is, simply, compelling crazy fun. If the two "issues" I have with it were not there, it would be pretty much perfect.

In fact, I'll say this: Obsidian Entertainment should have called the "Normal" difficulty level "Flayedawg's Game," because it is so close to perfectly tuned for my desired level of challenge that it's almost like they were reading my brain when they developed it.

As for the two issues ... well, I deal with them. I would have loved, for example, if there were some connection between your Survival skill & the amount of camping supplies you can carry. But 4 is too few, especially when you're deep in a dungeon with a long way to go to get back to the exit, & knowing that when you come back you'll be mousing over large, empty areas just to get back to where you were previously fighting. But for some reason Obsidian chose to go with this limit, so there we are.

Overall grade, at this point: 8/10, the best single-player CRPG since *at least* NWN2, if not longer. Now, can we possibly take the Fallout license away from BethSoft & return it to people who will do right, instead of turning it into "Oblivion" with guns???
