  1. I think if they were truly lazy then they wouldn't have even included custom companions to begin with. What you have to realize is that quality voice actors cost a lot of money, think of it this way, if you had to dedicate a lot of your time to voice acting would you do it for free or for minimum wage? No, you wouldn't, unless you were in a position where you literally had to. That means that they had to take chunks straight out of their budget (which was already waning to begin with for a game like this) in order to even include voice acting.

Basically, calling them "lazy" when you haven't considered things from a business point of view is incredibly short sighted of you.

...maybe calling them 'lazy' is a more of an insult than I realized (and to be frank I still can't), but I am not going to apologize or feel bad for thinking that this is them  taking the easy way out. And for me this is that in the end of the day...it's a bit like the situation with the Keep really....

...but enough of that since it's really offtopic - continue discussing how pretty blue people are - very! :)

  2.

Ofcourse companions cost a little more than random NPC with 2 sentences (although I wonder if you don't overreacting with the cost).

But you are just being unfair about my judgement of the custom companions. For me they are the lazy solution and can you really blame me? I like way how BG2's do things more than I do the silent party from IWD1&2. I(my char) dislike having no choise as to what party members I will have.

Of course I can blame you. It was additional work to implement a separate feature for custom companions that many people demanded, and it is a feature which increases your options and replayability regardless of how many pre-designed NPCs there are. We also have clear history of the Kickstarter campaign where people asked for it and it was presented as a stretch goal. So there is absolutely nothing in the actual facts that supports anything close to "oh they are so lazy".

I also like well written companions. I don't wish there were more, but I wish the ones we had got more attention.

...really it was so hard to implement as to be 'an additional feature'? :) To me it look to be just dialogue shortcut so people don't have to run/type a script themselves to start creating a new PC. But I am not a modder - it might indeed be such a hard task who knows?

I guess we will have to agree to disagree on the lazyness scale:)

  3. Companions are an investment. You have to invest in quite a bit of writing (at least, more than any other character gets in the world other than main villain etc), you have to invest in portrait art, you have to invest in a companion quest, you have to invest in voice-overs (which cost a lot), and so on. Indeed, part of the reason POE companions aren't quite as vocal or involved as in some other RPGs is precisely because they are a lot of work.

Meanwhile, they added the ability to have custom adventurers because... it's a nice feature and one that many people asked for. Of course, now, you mistakenly connect the wrong dots and complain about that too.

Moon Godlike isn't as much healing flexibility / power as Druid or Priest spells, but they are definitely the only racial bonus to be really good at the moment. They're surely far too good - look at Human bonuses which are very similar but get a 5-second delay that makes it useless.

  4. A better question is: how do you justify having a party of 6 godlikes ? For all I know there is one (1) godlike character in the game that wasn't created by a backer.

Godlikes are just meant to be more powerful by design.

You don't. It's just one of the failings of the 'make-multiple-PCs-and-call-them-a-companions inn imo'. The idea of which (for me) is just them being lazy and going 'We created 6 companions with stories, but now I am tired. Lets give the playerss the tools to create generic companions for their party and call it a day!'. And it's not like the cost of creating a companion would have been very high and thus the few we got - they rarely interact with the world so I can't imagine giving them a backstory and stuff being so hard for a writer to do...

...but good to know about the moon godlike....I didn't realize their self heal was good enough to replace a priest. Now maybe I could create non healer PC and not having to suffer the Dunce (or was it Durance....) in the party:)

  5.  Imo we are trying to maintain it's reputation/image as a haunted ruin:) I just wish we could flex our watcher muscles and do some necromancy for some shades/ghuls....and not search the land for the cheapest (and most pathetic probably) guards we could find (10 silver/day...what is wrong with you for accepting?!)....

    PS:

We definetely will have the money to rebuild it mid-end game....or if you are careful with your money raze it and completely rebuild it imo.

  6. Guess SPOILER alert...

Didn't the steward, and the whole story, kinda strongly indicate that this whole stronghold is cursed?

The big holy crystal-stones in the middle tells me that this was NOT the right spot to make the stronghold, and to me it seems this stronghold is forever cursed to bring ruin to it's owner?

If you want to put spoilers in a nice clickable box you can use ''

    '' and then ''

'' to close it...and ofcourse without the ''.

...as for thee whole ''ruin'' thing: i might have missed it, but to me it just sounded as kinda bad idea to build the Keep on a such big mystery...

Edit: /sigh Of course it didn't work...no idea how to explain:)...aha: ask google...it is amazing:D

  7.  To be honest the prison was really disappointing...I thought that once we have prisoners they will have additional dialogues for us to get more information or maybe persuade them to be either paid or non paid strong guards for the  Stronghold.Or even new (and interesting) party members...

....as for the hirelings...they should have named ''company of...'' or something that doesn't look like you are getting single guard.

...tho that will be hard to explain with you paying them 10 coppers/day....I mean WTF...talk about stingy!

  8.  As evensong said you can also be invaded by humans - and I doubt they will go digging under your keep...actually they might, but they will probably die by the spiders there:)

And even if it's monsters from the endless dungeon - the Great hall is more if you had done really (and I mean REALLY) bad at defending before that. It's better if the attack is where the old watcher was and not after my prison (ugh poor prisoners...)....

..as for when human attack you...maybe they could just some forest area (small one...and empty...and hidden until the event) IF you have build watchtower or the courtyard if not...?

  9.

I don't have many good things to comment about Bioware post KotoR. Let's just leave it at that. Read: didn't like DA and ME series. I did thoroughly enjoy New Vegas though.

    ...how could you?!

Joking...I understand if you don't...especially ME (although to be fair it was a very different game - especially 2&3). Personally I liked Jade Empire and dream they will do JE2....

  10.  The stupid blacksmith got killed so I couldn't sell off my loot, though I did get a letter a while later saying that I was named one of his heirs (because he liked me) and that he left some stuff for me.

Imo the blacksmith did the smart thing and faked his death:)

....I can imagine being forced to buy all the junk adventurers like to drag (for some reason). Oh the horror!

"Show me what you have for trade! Oh just one moment to...drag...this...junk and sell you few things...."

  11.  I never played easy so not sure if I am 100% correct but keep in mind that Shades (you should have 1 or 2) can summon Shadows so that might be why they are so many...

As for a good strategy (especially since you have a big party) I find it best to divide and conquer:) Shades like to paralyse (remember the difference between easy/normal/hard is the number of mobs you will meet and not their stats/abilities) which lower your evasion defense (by 10 I think...?) so don't try to tank all with your tank. Send your tank to engage 2-3 mobs. but also send Kana to melee a Shadow too (he have nice armor when you meet him and 10 DR so unless he is mobbed he will last quite a while). Shadows are just hard to hit and might teleport from time to time so don't worry about Kana:)

And least but definitely not last - learn how and what you can craft. Apart from ability to craft endurance potions you can also craft aoe spells to heal endurance so it's recomended you have few (they are low lore)

  12.  Haha.

Sorry for laughting at your misfortune OP, but that is just too funny:)

Anyway (to not spoil too much) the devs can't remove the event there since it is logical for it to be there if you have talked to Sagani. But yes - there shouldn't be any talks unless they have met a certain requirements...but I guess the game have too many variables in it as it is (stats/abilities/faiths/....I don't know what to call them...origins?).

And maybe they hoped that the monsters will serve as natural barrier to explorers like you, but they give too many tools for us to get...unnatural strength:)) (buying party members).

    ....personally they eat me alive...

  13.  If the Stronghold was afterthought maybe they should have given us small inn or a house for us to have a free rest and not make us Lord/Lady (tho I am not sure if female characters aren't/shouldn't be called Lord too). It just change too much to be mere side quest. Especially as the Keep is on a relatively important locations (on a trade route I would imagine).  It makes you (eventually) important and not just one more random adventurer/thug.

But in the end I am thankful that the devs put the basics in and now it will be much easier for the community to mod/add the life it deserves to have (for a good start to it please see Sabin Stargem's post).

As for possible add-on.... I seriously hope it will be after the main adventure instead of BioWare's Mass Effect parody, where they just put additional stuff under main story's skin... including having a party while whole universe burns.

...we already spend the whole game doing stuff while much more important things are waiting to be done:) It's like one of the rules to fantasy RPG now....along with having giant spiders (OMG fantasy universe without those!?)....

  14.  Keep in mind that inns and your stronghold (after certain upgrades) give you stat bonuses and food too (no idea if they can mix or not). But it usually is 16 points of given attribute (not always ofcourse)..

And if you want to have more ''dialogue'' stats you can always play spellcaster and be fine....although with how Resolve and Perception give you defense you can also play paladin I guess...

  15. It will obviously depend on the situation at hand, won't it?... If you're standing behind your front line tanker and they are in the way, then cone spells probably aren't a good idea. If you're more on the flank or if the tank is surrounded, then yes... Obviously.

Begin to cast fan of flames and then crackling bolt and you will see that fan of flames is much more forgiving in what it target than the 3rd level spell...so no actually...I believe that even if you are behind your tank (you shouldn't be) you can still use cone spell and use them to target few baddies....not as much as high INT wizard (big non FF radius)....

  16. You can definently create a flanking wizard. The thing is that, that kind of wizard isn't much different from a normal wizard in that you simply choose the best deflect spell you have available at the time for when you might get targeted... Otherwise you stay in the back and use your reach weapon while improving your aim. You may also want to use non-cone spells if you're behind your companions.

A wizard that will be able to handle melee duels with enemies is going to be far higher maintenance, even if you don't go full tankiness. It will require you to pick more defensive spells over your damaging ones and perhaps even picking some of the draining spells as well.

You can easily create a wizard who can go and more than survive duels...maybe not tank exactly (someone who gets mobbed and live for a long time) ...

...btw cone spells are still not a bad idea. It is easy (and they will still work surprisingly well) to turn the cone away from your party, but still hit 2-3 baddies...

...unless you disable the visual cone ofcourse...then you might have some trouble:)

  17.  The level 1 summoned staff is really powerfull weapon and it gives you extra acc so your wizard don't have problems hitting stuff.

The problem as I see it is that PoE seems to divide combat and non combat (almost like FF, just without new zones) and unlike bg2 you can't carry your longer buffs to the next battle. Which is only a problem for a few spells, one of which is the staff summon.....

And by the time that is not problem anymore (lvl 9) it is too late and I am not sure if it will be good enough:)

...and if we had a talant to make 1 low level spell per encounter in lower levels I feel that fighter/wizard would be very practical character to make...

(and it's not like such a talant woulld have been OP.....it actually sound terrible for min/max-ers:)

  18. . I would still really like to hear the narrator during the chapters voice overs, for instance. In a perfect world though, for me, it would mute all the dialog by default and only play when I have my mouse hovered over the text for it.

That actually doesn't sound like an awfully hard thing to mod...the game already have it since hovering over enemy shows hp/more info and it only have to modulate how low/hight the voice volume is....

  19. Don't hold your breath on this being addressed in a mod - you'd need entire new animations. I know Bester & Sensuki tried applying the generic walking animation NPC:s use, but it looks super-duper awkward with weapons drawn and in armour and so on.

...interesting...and I wonder why they chose to use generic NPC's animations instead of the one the PC uses. You know when you enter Gilded Vale:)

And it is isometric game...it is not Inquisition or Destiny or something that have to look very nice....

Edit: you know it is interesting if the PC don't have walking animation and only NPCs do....that means you are possessing somebody!

...does that mean you died when the scary storm came and you died right then and there....

  20.

why force a round peg into a square hole?

    *shrug*

     To make round hole ofcourse!

As for the deflection vs might debate: deflection is more important simply because Resolve is something like Charisma...and as everyone agree it is much more important to be charming than to be strong! :)

Seriously I usually take long time to kill with spell not because of the might (although mine is 13 mind), but because of all the grazes(sp?) I get...

and there are items to give you spell damage...

  21. It should be noted that scrolls and potions are relatively cheap to produce in this game, and can be used by any class with enough Lore, so it's easy to just make something like a Paladin who uses Scrolls of Fan of Flames to replicate the effect.

That is nice detail to remember because (especially if you can make them often) there are some craftable potions that have the same effects as your precious (at least untill you get to per encounter) spells....and scrolls ofcourse....and you can cheaply craft ''restore light endurance'' which is bugged imo and is a must have! :)

.....and very good advice for paladins as they are quite boring class otherwise:)
