Your world building guess regarding the Book of Storms is the same as mine. You can't join the Circle.

You indeed can't join the circle, but you can mention it again as a wizard to Llengrath in FS ... (which is a great DLC btw). It sounded like a set up for an eventual POE3, which I really hope happens.

But yesterday I learned from Josh (on Twitter) that Deadfire makes a profit since last year (and continues to do so - it's on sale with a bundle currently, 75% off). So maybe... maybe you might get your "ascension" to godhood, who knows? :)

Very happy to hear this ! I knew that crpgs had a long tail for sales, but its good to know that its finally making a profit.

Ancient is cool. I also use Lance of the Midwood Stag because the PL bonus is only 1 less but works for all spells, including Decay ones which otherwise don't know any PL bonuses. See Infestation of Maggots and so on.

I'm playing a nature godlike SC ancient right now, its pretty fun. I'm wondering though why you prefer the Lance to the Spine of Thicket Green, considering crushing damage is a little more flexible i find and the +20 % dmg to vessels comes in real handy.

FWIW, I feel the same as Guest Ontarah.

The reveal at the end of PoE matters to the Watcher and their companions in light of their dealings with Thaos and the root cause for the Hollowborn crisis. It would not necessarily bear the same meaning to everybody else, nor would it necessarily entail earth-shattering political or societal upheavals.

Philosophically and religiously, sure, it would tip the scales—but does the artificial nature of the gods make them any less real? They still very much exist and they still very much hold a metric ton of power. They still embody their respective portfolios. If people had been satisfied with their faith up until that point, they might as well keep being satisfied afterward.

Some people may feel betrayed and abandon their faith; others may even become mouthpieces for atheism and/or liberation from the gods, but it's not like everybody and their dog would automatically follow suit like an Eora-wide hoard of mindless drones.

IMO it makes sense for the Watcher to be shocked at the revelation that the gods are artificial. It's kind of a big deal and, as the game shows, has ramifications and implications (not least of which the Leaden Key's overarching plot to hide the fact causing damage like the Hollowborn crisis in the name of the end that justifies the means.) After processing the information, the Watcher may then settle on any of a number of possible stances: I don't care about the gods; I don't care about their artificial nature and will keep my faith; gods are a fraud and should be exposed; the consequences of exposing the gods on a world-scale would be disastrous and it should be kept a secret; etc..

Even then, as has been mentioned, trying to expose the gods as artificial without hard evidence (which, let's face it, the Watcher does not possess at the end of the first game) would likely be dismissed as the ravings of a lunatic (Watchers are driven mad by their Awakening, remember? Go explain everyone that you're different because you're speshul.) And if the endeavor somehow started to catch on, don't you think the gods would take notice and do something about it? The Leaden Key wasn't over after Thaos's death and may still operate to obfuscate that truth (and the Hand Occult happily continues to do so with any truth they stumble upon.)

In Deadfire, it is strange that you cannot discuss the matter with your companions—and I certainly agree that it's odd how Pallegina wouldn't rub it in Xoti's and Tekehu's face (but would they heed her words? She clearly has a bone to pick with the gods, so who's to say her hatred hasn't reached paroxysm and she's not just throwing a hissy fit?) Yet it isn't strange for the Watcher not to proselytize about it every chance they get. Go explain Queen Onekaza that the god stomping around in a 7-ft. adra statue is kith-made, see if she gives two damns and a half vis-a-vis the situation she's got on her hands. "Oh, well, why didn't you say so? If he's kith-made then all good. He can stomp around my isles all he wants and suck souls out of my people no problem."

The game never said you could stop Eothas. In fact, it makes it plenty clear that you can't when Ondra and Magran try and fail. Surely you would not expect the Watcher to hold more power than two gods combined? You've got Eothas's ear, sure, but I'm still wondering why. You're just a puny mortal like every other. You're a Watcher but you're neither the first, nor the last. You know of the origin of the gods but that doesn't make Eothas beholden to you in any way—it shouldn't come as a surprise that he eventually goes through with his plan regardless of what you say. He's clearly put a lot of thought and effort into it, for better or worse, and he's not going to relent just because a mortal chased him and shook their finger angrily at him.

Indeed, your mission was never to stop Eothas; Berath tasked you with finding out what his plans were so that the gods may take action accordingly (which they failed to do, as we now know), and you needed to retrieve your soul in the process for, as it is explained by the Steward at the beginning of the game, the farther away Eothas walked with your soul in him, the weaker and unlikely to wake up the Watcher became.

It's already a lot that you can actually make Eothas destroy all life under specific circumstances. I do believe, however, that you can get Wael's titan to crush Eothas and prevent the destruction of the Wheel. I haven't pursued that ending, but I recall seeing ending slides with the titan assaulting Eothas.

This was one of the best critiques of POEII's endgame I've read on this forum. Well said !

(Now I guess I'm going to drop DOS2 and replay Deadfire for the 12th time...)

Apologies if I wasn't specific enough above. I was referring to veteran game developers. People who have been making video games for a long time and are using the artistic medium of storytelling to explore the things that are relevant to them now.

Pavarti's plot might be lost on you because you're dismissing it as teenage drama rather than a young woman who is developmentally arrested by the loss of her parents. Or put another way: a young woman who is unable to engage with her life now because of things that have happened to her in the past. You, as the player,  now have the opportunity to help her move past all that and live in the present. You'll be able to do that with each of the companions, except their traumas and reconciliations will look different because the writers are all exploring variations on that theme rather than copy/pasting like bad/lazy writers would.

As someone over the age of 40, I imagine that you may have had a time in your life where you let a child-like fear of rejection and/or vulnerability prevent you from "shooting your shot". I imagine you may have looked back on that time with some amount of regret. You may have even used it as a newfound source of confidence. I imagine the writers were hoping to engage your empathy here and maybe give you some sort of emotional kinship with this character and her place in the story.

    But clearly they failed.

Your post made me want to finish the game, after dropping it months ago in boredom. It's less than I expected (mechanically) but maybe the story redeems it. I guess I'll have to find out.

  6. I haven't finished the game yet (I'm probably halfway in) but unfortunately, I'm not enjoying TOW as much as I hoped/expected. I saw one review calling it "fun but shallow" and it really hits the mark IMO. No issue with the story, the setting or the writing (the latter being ok), I'm actually more disappointed with the RPG elements (perks especially) and the rather bland enemies and combat... The locations and the quests are also nothing to brag about, all of them being rather safe.

To be clear, I have no issue with a shorter, more focused game in terms of story and setting, but I would have hoped that the RPG mechanics would be a bit deeper... The available perks are especially boring.

I put the game on pause hoping for a balance patch or DLC. Maybe I'll will have to wait for TOW 2 for something a little more substantive. Or POE 3 ;)

Bring Edér, Serafen and Tekēhu (with Xoti if you like her - she is easy to romance).

Those are the companions who talk the most. And most of it is funny and/or entertaining. Also those are the companions you can get very early. Besides Aloth who becomes accessible right after Edér. Tekēhu's Druid subclass is very good actually and can substitute a Wizard and can be a good healer at the same time.

I ran my last playthrough with Tekehu as a single class Druid. He was a beast with lightning AOEs and healing (I gave him the conduit plate and Lord Varrin's Voulge, so, yeah).

I also liked his backstory albeit if it was not the most engaging. Gave a nice dive into Huana lore. In a maybe unrelated note, I really liked Travis Willingham's voice acting for the character. Top notch and outside of his usual work.

I haven't had the same cool moments yet with Serafen, but I didn't bring him on any of the DLCs. Next playthrough

  8. I would like to see one set in the future, where the consequences of the Wheel being broken are starting to become dire. New character, also a Watcher, who could likely find tidbits of the old Watchers soul for added continuity with POE 1&2.

As for the villain, it would have to be someone working for Rymrgand or the god himself.

Living lands and Yezuda are my choices of setting.

In any case, I just really want a POE3

In what way are they miles behind?

In terms of diversity, function and an intangible "coolness" factor. If memory serves, in DOS (I didn't play the second one), items mostly only add small bonus percentages and are quickly made irrelevant as you level up. In pathfinder, they follow the typical +X bonus, with little added mechanics.

I find that the POE series does a much better job with items. They are more interesting (as they often provide abilities that are usually gated behind class), can be enchanted as to remain useful for the whole game and are just cooler (descriptions, lore, imagery, design, etc.)

    Just my opinion :)

  10. I have to agree with those saying that FS should not be skipped, it is IMO the best part of Deadfire (with the notable exception of the Bridge Ablaze). I'm currently finishing my second full playthrough and I'm loving going back to the Black Isle.

I also strongly agree with @Wormerine about itemization, it is one of the game's major strengths. Comparatively, Pathfinder and Divinity are miles behind in this department (well, in almost every department IMO, but that is more arguable I guess).

There was a bug report prior to 5.0 that mentioned that issue wit several unique items that lost their enchantments. I think it has nothing to do with mods.

I think you will find that the bug report matches your problem. I don't know what causes this and I thought it was fixed. Maybe check file integrity.

I checked file integrity, to no avail. It's not a major bug though. Thanks for clearing that up !

  12. I loaded up the complete community patch and I noticed a small bug with Thaos' Headdress.

The ability description seems to have disappeared, along with the associated bonuses. Could the patch have anything to do with it ?

Apart from that amazing work with the patch, I'm looking forward to the additional trinkets for priests and druids.

As Wormerine has already linked, here's the link to current beta:
    https://drive.google.com/open?id=1WFlBV_nkWk8E9ppQqiqLbljMWHjicENd

And here's the link to current patch notes: Basic, Extra

My initial idea, was to post beta here, without it getting a 'big attention' before it is tested by a few more players, and before we have circumvented the Missing Strings for non EN/RU localizations.

When we are done, we'll post it on nexus, and as a separate thread in Modding subforum, with the links all over the place ^^

P.S. Unfortunately I can't edit the 1st post. It seems that after redesign it is no longer possible to edit posts that are 8+ days old.
I've posted about this issue twice, here. Unfortunately there is still no response.

There was a "Deadfire Polishing Thread" running for 3 weeks prior to the poll.
And it's scope was to discuss, suggest, identify and select the somewhat minimal amount of changes that would be beneficial to game's balance the most. Because we were hoping that Obsidian might do some of them, and didn't want to disperse their resources.

Now that we know that Obsidian won't be doing a balance pass... we could consider adding some small buffs. And changing values is both quick and simple.

Personally, I would buff Weapon Mastery from 5% to 10%. But would leave Weapon Specialization as is.
What are your thoughts on this?

Superb work to all involved. Looking forward to the final version. Question: do you expect any issues between the community patch and current saved games ? Thanks !

Ok, I think I did them all.

If I missed one please let me know. After a last round of feedback I will begin with the corrections/refinement/younameit.

I think nobody (except Phenomenum) said anything about the Paladin subclasses yet - or did I miss it?

This is fantastic stuff... Really looking forward to the community patch. Do you have a rough estimate for release ? Thx !

  15. I like PoE better, although the DLC moved it closer.  I think PoE2 has a better character building system.  I think it has a much better main city.  I even think most of the content is better.  I should like it better, but I don't.

The plot never really finds its footing, but Pillars I base campaign had this problem to a lesser extent.  The real problem for me is that combat isn't as interesting.  For me, the moves to streamline combat made fights too similar, and this wasn't addressed until the DLC.  Even then, you reach max early, and then almost every fight has you using the same abilities over and over again.

I would highly suggest using Woedica's Challenge, it helped make fights a lot more interesting for me. I still prefer the Vancian system better (sue me) but the challenge helps bridge that gap.
