  1. I must be missing something. But they are never usable. It says, "Requires X phrases chanted". But how do I do that? I have the chant engaged and I can hear him chant at the beginning of combat but the spells are still not usable during combat. What am I doing wrong?

There is a circle under chanter's portrait that shows a number from 0~3. You need to fullfill 3 to cast an invocation. (not sure at higher level, probably still require 3 phrases, which means the earlier invocations especially the summon ones would render useless I guess)

  2. Most games lack replayability due to the fact you've to pass through the same prologue again and again. (toee is better at this regard since it at least has 9 different beginnings)

The first time you may still feel refreshed and empowered due to knowing how environment react to you, but the second time and onward it becomes a grind. You simply cannot replicate the "first time feel" especially when the game focus on adventure and story.

It's like in candlekeep when you realize no matter what you choose the assassin attacks you aka the choice of illusion or no matter what you do Iowen getts kidnapped once out of Irecnius dungeon, there is no point doing anything no more due to the fact they're railroaded (despite having "opinions").

POE also has the main quest blocking the adventure aspect like how the brigand blocks the bridge in Arcanum which makes the game feel more railroaded and restricted.  Personally I play poe as a linear adventure path and enjoy what it is. Doubt would restart a new game soon though.

  3. Isn't there a spell in D&D that allows you to teleport to a safe place in different plane to rest?  Replace camp with that spell (scroll) and everything would make much more sense.

"Consuming" spell scroll also feels more logical than consuming a whole camp per use.  You don't even need to change the ingame content, just the text fluff.

Maybe wait for a mod to change the icon and text or something.

  4. I sort of understand what you mean.

It's similar to the notation that an adventure game is no longer an adventure once you beat it for the first time, since on the 2nd playthrough you've known most if not all mechanics in the game

If your character could outrun the bear chasing and escape from the cave / fake death / some npc save you but throw you into prison/ etc., it would be more rpgish than watcher died and now reload.

You cannot just reroll a character and start from where you die like tabletop does neither. Think crpg as a storytelling choose your own adventure game rather than rpg.

  5. I'm a few hours in at lv.2 and I've got 2 summon chant (the one summon 3 skeletons and another that summon phantom).

It seems only one summoning invocation per chanter can be in effect at a time, therefore I wonder if I can change existing spells for another.

Also can any other classes summon or only chanters get to summon?  Thanks in advance.

  6. In Skyrim, you may not even kill certain NPCs who have zero plots nor quests. ie. the commanders in the opposing faction camps.  Many minor npcs are also essential, despite the only quests related to them have little to no importance.

Morrowind is like Icewind dale 1&2 in this regard, if you killed certain important main quest npcs, you're stuck forever. 1st game wouldn't give a notice while in 2 it would show a screen claiming you've just killed someone important.

Can you explain how your post is relevant to Romance that may or may not develop in a party on an RPG adventure to save the world or at least the land they are on from an ancient creature or demi-god or any other end boss in your typical  RPG? I am completely missing the relevance of your post to the discussion, sorry

Unless its not suppose to be relevant

The studies showed when people are under peril, they're more likely seeking for intimate relationships, although the attraction may originate from primal instincts.

Therefore, I think it relates to the whether romance/intimate relationship within a dark and gritty setting is realistic or not debate.

  8. Wiki

A study done by Loftis and Ross in 1974 looked at the effects of misattribution of arousal upon acquisition and extinction of a conditional emotional response. They conducted two experiments with 89 female undergraduates to show that misattribution procedures can alter physiological response to a conditioned source of a fear or arousal. The results suggested that self perception and attribution play a major role in emotional response.

As a result, the men who were approached on the bridge were found to be more aroused and could have mistaken their arousal from the bridge for the arousal they experienced from the attractive woman’s presence. There was a large amount of those in the first condition who called the woman and asked her for a date, whereas there was a lower number in men who called the woman after crossing the bridge and resting. Similar results were found when a male approached women in the same situation.

You simply cannot create paths in crpg...

Yest you can, mosly becouse even crating linear plot you create ... 1 path xD So creating anotherones are still possible on the same way ... but with much more effort xD

Within a crpg, there is only to do or not to do the main quest, while it may offer different ways to solve a confrontation, the path led the players to the confrontation still exist and can only be delayed, not erased.

There are no opinions such as

"Screw saving the world, let other heroic npcs do it themselves!!!"

"I'll stay in the brothel having fun till the evil villain die of old age!!!"

"Instead of fighting the evil baddies, my character shall from a organized criminal groups and corrupt the city"

"I'll tutor a student for him/her to be the hero(ine) while I stayed behind."

"Let's support our evil government and let it become something more fearsome than the baddies!"

"Why fight evil when you can join it right at start!" (most games offer this opinion until the very end...)

"Err, I dunno, let's find someone to get married. The formidable opponent hides within marriage!"

The list can go on. Yes, crpgs are railroaded to "set destinations" (usually a confrontation) despite they may seem to have choices.

Sometimes choices don't matter, they're simply fluffs.

Sometimes choices seem matter but you're leaving the area the choices had effect on right away, forever, therefore you have a sense of accomplishment while the only effect you would see is the ending slide.

Other times, choices matter, but only in resource providing, support or the opposite, but would not change the path to the final confrontation.

As long as there are major objectives ingame, the paths are set. You may solve the quests in different manner or in different time order, but the path "solving these objectives" is unaltered.

  10. I'm just going to use an editor and max out all the attributes on the main character, mostly because I like to 100% the game and I want to have all the dialogue options opened.

If they added dialogue for low int characters, you cannot have 100% choices available despite having all character stats at max though.

Hmm, now I wish for different dialogue choices for all kind of low attributes.

  11. I would choose gog myself. Certain games are region-locked on steam, offer higher prices, and "updating" is simply annoying.

Last time I got a fall of samurai boxed copy (cannot buy through steam due to region lock, gmg also blocks us), after installing through DVD, it required a "real installation" which took like 17gig download.  Why would I require a physical copy then? Because... well we get region locked yet the dvd we get is completely useless.

And since most boxed copies require steam as the platform, ever since I don't buy steam games no more. No reason for me to submit to a monopolization that treat me like third classed citizens.
