  1. Ps. Revan's last name is, in fact, Skywalker and is believed to make an appearance in Episode III. Pass it on.

    Oh! OMG Really?

*makes sure he watches Episode III*

Sorry about that. I really should have put a spoiler tag for those who didn't want Episode III ruined for them about Revan's appearance.

Indeed you ruined it, but at least we all know that GL wants to make us happy

I'm pretty gullible, but I just can't believe that......but if turned out to be true, maybe I'll see Episode III for that, and to see Vader's cameo.

  2. Okay.  I'm seeing a lot of people complaining about Influence.  And then I began worrying about how it might adversely affect the game, especially people playing DS.  However, I observed Princess Sarah playing the game and I've noticed a few things.

Influence checks come into play mainly when you deal direclty with said NPC.  If you kill people, and act like an evil bastard, the game seems to allow for that.  If party members reacted adversely every single time, there would be no possible way to turn someone to the dark side, since you'd lose influence with any DS action.

In the very beginning of the game, Sarah got some plenty of DS points before the first influence opportunity.  When she spoke to the party members, and they argued over the course of action, you could choose to assure either member, or insult either member.  You were going to gain a point of inlfuence with either member, or lose influence with one.

Looking at the dialogue options, I could see a Sith Lord answering any of the four options, and a Jedi answering any of the four options.  Palpatine is an evil bastard who used flattery, and Obi-Wan Kenobi is a Jedi who had little to no compassion for the Gungans, and didn't hesitate to call Jar-Jar "another pathetic creature".

People are missing the fact that the Dark Side path is more akin to a true Sith Lord.  You can lie to your party members, placate them, and then twist them to do evil deeds.  Once you have influence on them, you can corrupt them completely.  If you constantly tell your party members to screw off and attempt to bully them, you're not going to turn many people.

    This isn't a bug.  This isn't a broken system.

This is exactly as it should be.

If the system were changed as some people have asked (where if you turned someone dark, you'd suddenly get influence for doing dark things etc.) then basically you'd automatically get inlfuence with every party member for doing whatever you were going to do anyway with no effort.  That's a broken system.

Even if you corrupt someone in your brief time with them, they will have their innate instincts and personality they've developed over years.  You might push someone towards violence, passion and anger, but that doesn't mean they desire innocent people to be bullied for no reason.

We asked for a better dark side path, and we got one.

    I absolutely agree -- it's allzabout being manipulative. :p

  3. there are multiple endings though, so you should replay it if yer dissatisifed with the ending received -- I know I will!

Like I've said before, I didn't think the LS ending for KOTOR1 was too good, and the DS ending barely better, but it was the journey, both times, that made KOTOR so memorable and replayable to me. I see the same happening with this one.

  4. I'm in Nar Shadda now -- I'll keep an eye out on this game-breaker, but to let you know, I haven't gotten any bugs, black screens or freezes. The only thing I've noticed is lack of polish here and there (NPCs running in cirlces, party-members "warping" to position on the world map, etc. -- not big deals at all, imho).....

  5. I'm just under 30 hours into the game now, and haven't encountered freezes or game-breaking bugs (I only had a single freeze in the last game as well) -- the only things I see are aimlessly wandering NPCs (runnin in circles at times), somewhat awkward transitions, and a few other rough edges (like framerate), but yeah, the last game also hade it's framerate drops, glitches, etc. -- none of that has hindered my enjoyment of this game. I dislike the loading screens, but still, I can't play this game enough. :)

  6. Overall I think a lot of people like this game, its just they are having a hard time with the ending.

Alot of people like the game...myself included...I bet if this was the first KOTOR game out people would dismiss most of the complaints and hail it as the king of games..unfortuanetly, following up KOTOR, people expected a step up..not more bugs than the first..which is where most of the complaints come from. The storytime seems to be more intricate than I had thought after beating it a second time..so I am actually beginning to like the ending..weird.

whew! There's hope I won't committ suicide upon seeing the games ending(s) afterall!

  7. dunno yet -- I'll have to play and replay KOTOR 2 before I can make a final judgment, but lemme tell ya that KOTOR1 is my favorite RPG to-date, thanks to the great gameplay (love the combat system), the story and characters (Jolee was the man, and Revan, well, she was vicious!), superb voice-acting (it adds so much if done right, imho), replay value (twice, and started a 3rd and 4th -- I buy too many games), and a decent challenge on Difficult.

I'm finding that KOTOR2 is harder (started on Difficult) and there seems to be much more action. Also, I am enjoying the dialogue options more, as they're more varied and not so obvious in their morality......I'm really enjoying getting to know the new characters as well.

  8. Wired wrote that about TSL:

"On reflection, it's easy to conclude that what went wrong with KOTOR II is that KOTOR's success drew the attention of Star Wars auteur George Lucas himself, as the video-game sequel shares many of the flaws of the new movie trilogy (Natalie Portman and Hayden Christensen notwithstanding).

The exposition and dialogue are often leaden and excessive, and it's hard to consistently get a grip on what's important and really advancing the story. The moral for developers may be that in both video games and movies, sometimes what you put in is less important than what you leave on the cutting room floor. LucasArts, please keep that in mind for the inevitable KOTOR III"

And what do you think about it?

Sounds like a review comin from someone who doesn't enjoy talking to NPCs or character development, imho

  9. It seems like several games have suffered from the 'bad ending'-syndrome lately. E.g. Halo 2, Half-Life 2, Sudeki and now KotOR II. When thinking about it, what games have had an excellent ending?

The only one that i can think of is FFX.

lol, I didn't dig that ending! It was ok, anyway.....I was more disappointed in the Sin fight though, as he died in almost 2 rounds of combat.

  10. The people around here are pretty tame about how "horrible" the game turned out, actually.

What you've seen around these boards is nothing compared to what I've seen with... a certain unnamed group of people about the internet.  This particular anonymous group goes hating and hating and hating on it, and even goes so far as too assume Obsidian was being vindictive and hateful to the fans of the original game.  No, I think a lot of the hating of K2 is pretty genuine, sadly... and I don't think it bodes well for Obsidian's success with this title, which had so much potential to far surpass the first one in many ways.

ah, haters will be haters.....I love this game.

  11. well, they docked KOTOR2 for last year's graphics (gave it a 6 ferchrissakes), and having the same issues as well (loading screens, framerate drops, etc.).  Perhaps they underrated KOTOR2 and overrated FABLE, but either way reading their reviews says much much more than the numeric scoring.

that said, I hope this or SMT: Nocturne wins it!  Both are absolute gems.  I couldn't care less about an RPG with Mario.

I don't think that should really make a difference. It terms of RPG, one game or the other is better. The better game should get the better score. I guess I just don't understand >_<

Don't try to understand, just play the games you like and be happy

    indeed.

well, FABLE is an action-RPG, and KOTOR II obviously isn't -- that alone would divide RPGers into which method of combat they preferred, and thus what RPG they'd rather play. So ya see, the "better" game is purely subjective. That's why I always read reviews for content instead of shooting a glance at the score and sh**tin' bricks.

  14. Honestly hearing what people rave on the story up to that point I could honestly care less if the ending is beyond terrible. I still think it will probably a decent one compared to many but even if that is just high hopes I will love the game and play it many times through. As to some saying the final fight was too easy of course it would be your talking about using D20 system rules and even if you look at D&D a character reaching the level points we are talking about are near godly in most aspects. Of course things can be changed to try and challenge them but its also a point to let a player feel like they have earned the right to own in battle to have few worries even in the farthest parts of the game. The player struggles and works to reach such a point and its only right to reap the reward of your effort. I know many want a challenging boss fight as I usually do but if the boss is a walkthrough so be it that doesn't mean you had any less fun the 30+ hours playing the game and I would gladly start a new game to try a different path.

I'm playing on Difficult, and I've run into some tough battles (we're talkin die and retry!)....

  15. I thought KOTOR1's LS ending sucked, but the JOURNEY was worth replaying alone. I thought the DS ending was a bit better, but ultimately, I didn't mind either endings (but preferred the DS, and that is why it was selected as the background info for KOTOR2)

I didn't mind HALO 2's either. I guess I'll have to see for myself, but I doubt I'll be PO'd by and ending sequence when the ride there kicks this much ass.
