  1. Hello Theosupus,

Could you provide us with an example of a creature that is no longer capable of dropping loot after being stuck with Essence Interrupter, that way we could attempt to reproduce the issue on our end? Essence Interrupter, in fact, doesn't actually "change" the affected character in any way. When that creature is killed, they die normally, and should drop loot normally. The effect of the bow is only to summon a new creature where the previous one was killed. So if you are experiencing a loss of guaranteed loot, it's possible there are other factors involved that might help us to determine the issue.

(Please also note, that most normal creatures roll for loot on random loot tables and will frequently not drop any loot, depending on the results.)

  2. Hello wliles3,

If you open the options menu and select the Graphics tab, you should see a toggle for Cage Cursor. Turning that on should keep your mouse from moving to your separate monitor. Please note that there is currently an issue where after playing the game for some time, the cursor can become unlocked. Until this issue is fixed, please toggle the option on and then off again to resolve the issue.

    Thanks!

  3. Hi pandore,

This may not be a bug. When you select the options for reputation, such as Cruel or Benevolent, you may not yet be known as a cruel or benevolent person until you have made those choices enough times for the word to spread that you have that reputation. Though, sometimes a big enough action or statement can cause your character to immediately be recognized in that manner.

I hope this helps to clarify. Please let me know if after choosing these options many times you do not actually attain a reputation.

    Thanks!

  4. Hi greywolf00,

Are you running the client as an administrator? Also, if not, it may help to make sure that you run the installer as an administrator initially.

If this doesn't help, could you please start up the game and then after the main screen where the Continue and Load buttons remain greyed out, close the client and attach your outpug log file found here.

It may also help us to know your system specifications, which can be found by following the steps in that link as well.

I'll send this information along to our programmers and hopefully we can find a workaround and/or a fix.

    Thank you.

  5. Hello,

Could you please attach an output log and saved game after you experience this issue in game? You can do this by playing the game until you see the issue, then copy the files that you find in these locations:

    Save Games location:

    %USERPROFILE%\Saved Games\Pillars of Eternity\Saves

    Output log:

    \Steam\steamapps\common\Pillars of Eternity\PillarsOfEternity_Data\output_log.txt

Then post the files here along with your system specs or dxdiag.

This should help us greatly to resolve the issue.

    Thank you!!!

  6. Druidx,

Do you happen to have your resolution set to the same as your max desktop resolution? If you run the game in the same resolution as your desktop, you will not see borders around the edge of the screen when switching to windowed mode. This is because the game is running at the same exact size as the screen space. If you lower your game resolution and run it in windowed mode, you should be able to see the game appear as a window and be able to be dragged around, etc...

Please let me know if this helps.

  8. Below is a list of some of the major issues that we are currently working to resolve, as well as some steps on how to work around them.

Crashing After Obsidian, Paradox, and Kickstarter Logos

    • Delete font UNCL.TTF
Many Unity games tend to have problems running due to a font file that does not get read properly. This font is located in C:\Windows\Fonts, but often does not show up for users even though it exists in that spot (adding more frustration and confusion to the issue). To properly delete this corrupted file, users have followed these steps:
    1. Hit the start button and type "cmd" then right-click cmd.exe and run as administrator.

    2. It should now show "C:\Windows\System32\"

    3. Type "cd .." and press enter

    4. Type "cd fonts" and press enter

    5. Type "del UNCL.ttf" and press enter

If this method does not work for you, check the forum post here for alternatives that worked for other users.

Cannot Complete Main Quest 'Never Far From the Queen'

    • Reset the Temple of Woedica area
Some users have reported a progression break in the Catacombs under Copperlane. Sometimes after killing all of the mercenaries and killing the Shrouded Woman, the quest does not complete and the player does not receive the next essential quests. Some users have found a way to reset the area so that you can try again for the proper result. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Save the game in an area that is not Temple of Woedica
    2. Close the client
    3. Find your save file on your computer (look here)
Create a copy and save it elsewhere, just in case
    4. Open the savefile using the WinRAR application
Right-click, "Open With", "Choose Default Program...", "Browse...", Find WinRAR.exe, "Open"
    5. Delete "First_Fires_Ruins.lvl" and "First_Fires_Ruins.fog"
    6. Reload your save file
    7. Enter the reset Temple of Woedica and attempt progressing again

You may want to try using a mask and learning the secret phrases, but it might not be necessary after the reset.

While this method of resetting areas can be used elsewhere in case of emergencies, it should be used with extreme caution as it has the potential to permanently break the file's progression beyond repair.

    Framerate Issues/Frequent Crashing

There may be various factors contributing to this issue, so take a look at the different fixes to try and solve the problem.

    • Disable Anti-Aliasing
Many users have reported running into framerate issues and frequent crashing. If this is happening on your machine, go to the Graphics options and move the Graphics Quality slider to the left. This will disable anti-aliasing and should help your game's framerate.

    • Lower Resolution
If framerate issues persist after disabling anti-aliasing, then lowering resolution can sometimes add significant increases to performance. This can sometimes help significantly, especially on machines with lower system specifications. We are working on more ways to support performance increases as we patch the client.

    • Clean and Clear Your Computer
Dust and other particles can accumulate on parts of your computer, adversely affecting its efficiency when it attempts to run demanding programs and games. It is also important to make sure there is sufficient access to the ventilation fans for the computer so it can keep itself cool. Make sure to keep your computer or laptop clean and clear to avoid unnecessary strain and overheating.
    • Set Power Options to High Performance
One user discovered that switching the Power Options to High Performance greatly increased their framerate.
    • Run as Administrator
Some users are reporting major performance issues when not running the game as an administrator. If you are noticing issues such as this, please make sure that you are running the game in administrator mode. You can do this by doing the following:
    1. Navigate to the Pillars Of Eternity install folder.
    2. Right-Click on the executable icon.
    3. Choose Properties.
    4. On the Compatibility tab, select the Run This Program As An Administrator option.
    5. Click OK.
    6. If you see a User Account Control prompt, accept it.

Make sure to run the game as Admin when you both install and play the game to prevent issues; such as portraits not loading, unable to save, or some crashes.

    • For 32-Bit Machines
There are reports of reporting crashing when transitioning on 32-bit machines.  We are aware of the issue and attempting to fix it.  This issue did come up on Wasteland 2, which is another Unity project, and a workaround was discovered by their fans: here

You can change your system settings on your computer to increase RAM used by a single application.  However, there are inherent risks involved when changing settings involving your operating system and any attempts to change your system settings will be at your own risk.  Obsidian is not liable for any issues that might occur with those settings.

Extremely High Prices in Certain Stores
    • Switch the language to English or gain positive reputation in the area
If the game is played in some languages other than English, some shops will have drastically inflated prices. The only known ways to set the prices to be normal again is to set the language to English or to gain reputation with the area or the shop owner specifically, giving you a discount and therefore forcing the prices to their correct state.

Delay of Voice Overs, Music, and UI Windows

    • Disable server or virtual OS software
Users are reporting that there's a constant delay for VO, music, and inventory.  To attempt to fix the issue, please disable Hamachi, TCP/IPv6 protocol, and VPNs.

We will be updating this list with major issues as they appear.

    Thank you.

    Issues prior to Patch 1.03

    Animal Companions Disappearing
    • Close the game, reopen, and load a previous save
Users have reported having their Ranger animal companions becoming stuck in the scene and invisible after loading saved games, typically with the animal's portrait turning white. If you get this to occur, immediately close the client, as the issue can carry between saves while playing. A fix is in the works for an upcoming patch, but it is best to close the game, reopen it, and load a save from before the issue occurred.

    Repeating Sound Effects

    • Close the game (you should be able to save first)
Sometimes SFX have been found to begin repeating, often when tutorial tooltips appear or quest updates. This has been resolved in our upcoming patch. Until then, if this issue occurs, closing the client and loading your last save should resolve the issue.

Losing Active Effects, Abilities, and Talents

    • Dismiss affected companions to the Stronghold and bring them back, or wait until the upcoming patch
There is an issue with characters losing their active effects and passives when double clicking to equip an item in your inventory.  To resolve this for companions, you can dismiss them to the stronghold and recruit them back.  The next upcoming patch should fix all affected characters, including the player character, retro-actively.
